[Q] Bluetooth File Transfer - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is Bluetooth File Transfer possible on a Droid Eris? I'm running GSB 2.7 using free Bluetooth File Transfer. I can pair with my Ubuntu laptop but it won't initiate a file transfer. Ubuntu says unknown error. The phone says make sure OBEX FTP is installed and discoverable.

That sounds familiar, like maybe many months ago someone had a question like that with them using Ubuntu, also. I'm sorry I don't have any other info, I don't commonly use Ubuntu, and haven't done BFTs but I just thought I'd let you know there might be a thread on here somewhere about the same problem, that you might find using XDA's or Google's search.

[Q] Bluetooth file transfer

I am unable to transfer an apk from my computer to my archos 70(latest firmware) using bluetooth. Is this a known issue or is there something i need to do to enable this?
I am able to send to my htc desire using my computer bluetooth.
Up.
The same. not only apk. any file.
I am able to transfer files from my pc to my Archos 43 via bluetooth without a problem, i know this sounds daft but did you make it discoverable under settings? and your only discoverable for 2 minutes. hope this helps
Also having problems getting the Archos 101it to communicate with anything else via Bluetooth. My Desire and laptop happily exchange files, but neither can send to the Archos. I just about managed to pair the Archos to my laptop, but then couldn't get them to communicate. Thought I'd try upnpairing and reconnect, but now the Archos won't pair with anything at all!
SOLUTION!
To recieve on ARchos you need to Install "Bluetooth file transfer".
It will activate "OPP". Plus you need activate discovery mode!

Thanks for the tip, can confirm this works perfectly! Just install the app from the Market, no need to actually use the send to send/receive, native Android services works as normal. Looks like FTP and OPP services were disabled by default (on my device at least) and just installing this app enables them.

[Q] Can someone help me out with the bluetooth transfer?

Hi! I have a problem regarding bluetooth transfer. I want to send files from Atrix to my laptop but it won't work even if it showed paired and connected to media. However, I can send files from my laptop to Atrix using bluetooth without a problem. Do i need to be rooted to do this?
No you shouldn't have to be rooted to transfer files via BT. Have you tried the Phone Portal app that came on the Atrix? Open the app and select "connect with wifi", in your computers browser enter the ip address shown on your phones screen. Thats it! You should now have access to the files on your Atrix via your web browser.
Thx.. somehow i fixed the bluetooth issue myself. and, using bluetooth to connect atrix to laptop is way faster than the phone portal one
Good you got it working! Its takes me about 20 seconds from opening the phone portal app to typing the ip in my browser, not bad. The advantage of phone portal over bt is the 'file explorer' - bt only allows transfers not exploring; with phone portal you can see the files/folders and thats a huge advantage to me.
I can also use bluetooth to explore my files on atrix also. Somehow opening the ip address is very slow for me
How do you do explorer over bt? Is it software on the computer or?
I downloaded the "bluetooth file transfer" from the market which enables FTP. Then i go to device manager and find my bluetooth card and enables the FTP in it. When I enabled tthe FTP, it will install a driver. Then go to control panel-> bluetooth devices-> MB860, press connect in the phone operations then "browse files on your phone" will show up. Then you just click it and then you can explore it.

[Q] Issue with pairing X2 running CM7 with Win7 by bluetooth

Instead of driving myself crazy trying to get this to work then finding out its not possible im going to see if anyone has any input on this.
I use my bluetooth headset with my X2 just fine but I want to pair the phone with my computer to use the app BlueNMEA to send gps data over bluetooth to use in Streets and Trips on my computer.
The problem is that after my computer tries to pair with my phone it tries to install drivers and then fails. I have the USB drivers installed but obviously its looking for different drivers. I just have no idea what drivers it needs or where to find them.
So any help would be much appreciated, even if its just letting me know that someone has successfully paired their phone with their computer... then Ill at least know im not working toward a dead end. Thanks!
I'll look more into it, but does BlueNMEA provide Bluetooth drivers on there support page?
Also, Do you provide the pins and such for pairing the device to the computer? Have you had a successful BT connection with the computer in the past?
Also, next time post in Q&A's please.
This is the first time I have tried pairing the X2 to the PC with bluetooth so no I have never had a successful connection before. This is something I used to do with my old windows mobile phone and recently have the need for it again.
Yes it does ask for the pin and once entered both devices attempt to connect but when windows then tries to load the drivers which would allow the devices to communicate it just fails.
BlueNMEA as far as i know doesn't need any special driver once the two devices are communicating.
Sounds like something is needed from the site, what ROM are you using?

Ftp via hotspot

I wanted to know if know if in a place where there is no wifi, is it possible to create an ftp server or anything similar so i can transfer files from my laptop to my phone and vice versa wirelessly, like maybe with the portable hotspot somehow...
Im running MIUI V4 ICS 4.0.3 in case that matters
Thx,
Aryeh
That would be possible if your laptop has the ability to create a wireless hotspot, and you connect your phone to it and then use an FTP app. I prefer this one - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.xdevelop.rmp
For example, my Dell Studio 1555 has an Intel WiFi Link 5300 card, and the driver for it includes software called Intel My WiFi, which allows me to create a hotspot with my laptop. If I remember correctly, there are software to do the same on any laptop even if it doesn't come with the driver.
Try this out, should work.

Thanks for the reply! Is you device encrypted because mine is.
All the nexus 9 tablets are encrypted by default (I'm not sure about the LTE devices though, but they must be too).

I had a similar problem with a Nexus 7 it was so bad the file transfer eventually failed. Never found a solution for MTP transfer, instead I pulled the files I wanted using a network file share and ES File Explorer.
I was using a mac and the mac android file transfer program.
Same problem here too.
Transferring files from my Mac using the MTP app, both the tablet and the app seem to struggle.
Sometimes the transfer fails and I get a message from the MTP app saying "please unplug and restart your device".
I try to use FTP transfer over my WiFi network as much as I can to avoid this problem.
Mtp va ubuntu is nice
