d2g developers attention - Droid 2 Global Android Development

a group of people have gather to offer 500 dollars to any developer that can unlock d2g for oversea usage, meaning not band unlock for att or tmo, just like if it was the code provide by verizon, many of us have been affected by the codes that were change OTA by verizon now having our investment useless, anyone up to the challenge????

Why don't you try a TurboSIM? It's been reported to work.

He did. TurboSIM is far from good solution apparently

Is this for real? Is this what Verizon is doing? So next OTA update can lock my phone back? So, should I install Fission or any other rom which will prevent the phone from automatically install new OTA updates?

You didn't get it right. Once unlocked with code your phone won't relock again ever.
Unlocking the us gsm carrier support (the TBH hack) is different story. It involves modified baseband firmware and will certainly relock if you flash official one that has the carrier ban implemented.

So, did you change your ROM to Fission or Liberty or are you personally still on the stock ROM? By changing to Fission or Liberty you get the US gsm unlock?
Thank you.

I've heard that about the Liberty and Fission ROMs but has anyone on a US GSM carrier confirmed it working??

When is Motorola going to officially unlock all bootloaders?

I thought Motorola said back in June that they were suppose to provide a method to unlock bootloaders in Q3. I am still waiting for it so I can officially unlock it so I can still maintain my 4G connection.
This sucks because HTC already has a method to officially unlock bootloaders for certain phones with the list growing. Anyone know any news on this?

As it should be, if there is a possibility for wrecking your device by choice, HTC needs to know who is doing it so they don't have to pay for it - now that being said They should still want to help the person out if it is broken - especially if you can tell the brick or issue was not because of 3rd party software. I have heard HTC has been good about still replacing devices that are registered as unlocked.
Yeah, HTC kind of bastardized "unlocking the bootloader."

What exactly are the differences between unlocking the boot loader and rooting the phone? I've already rooted, but what exactly does unlocking the boot loader do?
Unlocking allows you to flash custom kernels and custom rom's. That's a pretty general statement seeing as I am new to the android scene, I'm sure someone else will elaborate.

100% true and coming from two other unlocked and rooted HTC phones, I can say (from personal experience) that they have awesome customer care.
I was actually sad that when I switched to Sprint there wasnt a decent HTC phone to choose other than the Nexus S - which was already becoming dated. Took a gamble with this motorola phone, so time will tell. So far, so good.

Moto will never release an unlocked bootloader. First the Vendors would have to approve that, second. vendors and OM's would not be able to support devices. HTC is taking it on the chin right now for releasing unlocked bootloaders without Vendor approval.

Dev edition, hardware swap q:

So I did a little searching before posting so don't ream me please ??
1) Does the dev edition s4 also have a locked bootloader? That would be f'in whack.. If it us unlocked and my second q doesn't pan I may try and swoop one up. ..
2) I have a friend with a tmobile s4 that he cracked the digitizer and just reported it lost... If I took his board could I unlock it to big red? If so what would be the consequences?

The Dev Edition S4 normally does not have a locked bootloader. I say normally because some users took an Over The Air update which did lock the bootloader. So it depends on whether the bootloader is a stock MDK bootloader or if the user took a subsequent OTA update which in turn locked / changed the bootloader. Also, there is no factor image for the Dev Edition, so if it is locked it is going to stay locked for the foreseeable future. As for your second question, I'm not sure that will work. I think the firmware differences between TMO and Verizon plus the difference between GSM and CDMA will not be easy to overcome. But I don't know that for sure.
I'm not trying to be a know it all trust me lol but the dev s4 never got otas I don't believe. The users who locked then up did so by using Odin and retail firmware.
Just throwing that out there.

I don't take that as you being a know it all, you're probably right. I just know some Dev owners did something to lock their bootloaders I just assumed (wrongfully) that it was an OTA of some sorts. Sorry for the misinformation.

I know one user who received his DevEd about the same time as me. He received an OTA that locked his bootloader. I have never received an OTA, and I'm still running stock (more or less) DevEd.
It's funny how I bought the DevEd, because I wanted a guarantee that I could ROM the device. But I fell in love with the stock OS, and don't care if I ever have KitKat.

Is there something wrong with VZN Note 2s?

Hi Guys,
I was looking to purchase this phone off of ebay for my mom. We are on the t-mobile network but since VZN Note 2s are supposed to be unlocked I was looking at them too. However, I'm looking at them and there are quite a few Verizon Note 2s around/under $200 on Ebay. Is that where the phones value is now? I thought they would be around $250 at least. The one thing all of these have in common are that they are the Verizon models. The tmobile models are still pretty high. Is there something wrong with this model? Are these like those fake chinese clones? Or is the value just at that and I should buy it ASAP? I don't want to throw money down for some random clone

Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob, Does that just mean that custom software can't be installed on it? Like I said my mom is going to be using it so it will probably stay on stock.
Correct, no custom roms or root...depending on what version the phone comes with. What did you mean in your op when you said 'unlocked'?

Step one in that guide says 'ensure your phone has root' That is game over if the note 2 has the latest update. You can't root it.

What about Method 1? Or is that not possible at all cause its a custom rom?
Method 1:
See Adrynalyne's post below (Post #2) for a flashable mod (via custom recovery) that will enable the Add APN menu by removing Verizon's block. (For deodexed roms only)

That requires a deoxed rom, so the note would have to be bootloader unlocked and had a deoxed rom flashed.

Yes they are sim unlocked all you have to do is pop the sim in and add the correct apn's although you'll only get 3g and H+ (no 4G lte)

No offense to that guy but he's wrong bc I and many other put their Verizon note 2 on other carriers with no issues (see forums like note 2 on other carriers there plenty of them)
Now as far as the whole bootloader deal goes for custom rom and root depending on the android version but just to use it stock on another carrier it's sim card unlocked out of the box no root or custom rom needed
I had my Verizon note 2 with a locked bootloader android 4.3 on straight talk (att sim) for months no problems

I have a question about verizon's phones.

I'm on the verizon network, and I have the N6P. My question is, what phones on the verizon network are truely rootable? Unlocked bootloader and all. I had the note 3, which is rootable, but you could not unlock the bl,and you could only run aosp roms. That didn't work for me. I'm just wondering, so when I change phones I know which phone to get. Thanks
I believe if I'm not mistaken, that most Verizon androids are locked on the bootloader. That doesn't mean that root isn't impossible, it just means that exploits would need to be used to create a root.

It really depends on which phone you have, I'm almost 99% sure that the bootloaders for the Nexus 6p's can be unlocked without the carriers permission. Google is really great about that, but on the other hand the Verizon S5 has a locked bootloader.

And yes, US unlocked version still hasn't seen the update as of yet.

Yes you will get when Samsung pushes the update for US unlocked model. Which carrier you use the US unlocked model is irrelevant.
