Does the Gtab use an actual sd card as the internal memory? If so, could I simply take the unit apart and change the card for a class 10 with maybe more storage space?
From what I've read it does not, it uses chips soldered to the mainboard.

hi guys,
recently i had a problem with my card slot, first it was very good reading all storage cards then it started reading it sometimes and sometimes not then suddenly it cannot read a single storage card.
the thing is i have no idea if my wife did put the storage card upside down, but i know i did not mess with it.
any ideas on what to , is it an IC problem or need to replace the whole slot?
i don't think so, you should format your SD card to FAT, it is used for BA
If the SD card works Ok in other device... there are 2 lateral metalic parts:
- to detect if the card is read only
- To detect if the card is there (the bottom one)
See if they are OK if the bottom one fails... it does not detect the card.
If you cannot fix it by yourself, try the guys from http://www.apexlaptops.co.uk/
I broke 2 times my SD card reader and sent them for repair.. (bit expensive) but fixed OK.
But now I think the only problem those times was the bottom lateral metal thing.
Good exploration
The 32gb athena mod thread has been about for a while, but with the imminent release of 16gb micro sdhc's and 32gb micro sdhc's to follow shortly after is there still a need for such a mod?
Would you risk bricking your device and voiding your warranty to install an ssd or prefer a memory card as an alternative. I am reliably informed that the read/write speed of internal drives is quicker in benchmarking tests, but how much bearing does this have on performance? what i know from experience is that the transfer speed of sdhc cards with a reader is much quicker than the software alternatives of wm5torage and activesync.
I would like to hear what you think the advantage of an ssd over a memory card of the same capacity is. If you were to buy a 32gb card would you even consider removing or disabling the microdrive to save battery life? Or would you prefer the full 40gb and utilise the two storage mediums for different purposes?
I think replacing the internal microdrive with a 1" SSD would help battery life as well as give us even more potential capacity. We would be able to have full movies on the drive instead of having to use an SDHC card with the lower transfer rate.

The speed of an SDHC card versus an SSD for viewing movies is completely irrelevant. An SDHC is MORE THAN FAST ENOUGH to watch a movie smoothly, even one of a very high bitrate.
The transfer speed of files TO an SDHC card using a card reader is VERY HIGH in comparison to transferring files over activesync or via WM5torage to an internal drive however. This for me is the crucial factor, since i'd much rather be able to copy new films onto a card as quickly as possible. The only way the extra speed of an internal drive might make a difference is with the installation of programs, but you would still be able to install programs to the 8gb microdrive AND have a 32gb card.
Try copying 2gb of data to your microdrive with wm5torage, and 2gb to an sdhc card with a reader.
Actually, my choice is C, which is to do BOTH the options listed.
That's basically what i said eaglesteve.... don't want to limit out memory potential... the MD is cack compared to a decent SSD module - not due to its access times which for MD are good, but due to its shock resistance and battery life.
I agree, Both would be great, but the cost of the 32 Gig unit is going to be a lot more than the difference between the X7500 price and the X7510s.
Realistically our current options pricewise will be the X7510 with 16Gig internal and a 12Gig MicroSD card.

For me, replacing the 8GB MD with a 32GB SSD would be, as they say in the UK, "the dog's bollocks..." I am a pilot and the MD, in addition to its shock and vibration sensitivity, is only good for 10,000 ft and below in unpressurized cabins. This alone would be enough to make me switch. Mechanical disks are in the early stages of extinction.
Finally got the 16 gig sd card I ordered for my atrix. Popped it in. Phone doesn't recognize it.
Tried the 8 gig out of my nexus one. Same issue.
Anyone else have this issue? Am I doing something wrong? Time to exchange the phone?
Try power cycling the phone with the SD card installed.
There's a note in the online manual somewhere, you're supposed to MOUNT and FORMAT the sdcard before first time use.
I'm using a 16gb microsdhc that was formatted previously. Didn't issue the mount command, but the phone is using it with no complaints.
Mount. Format. Wait for 32gb prices to drop.<G>
I used 32GB Sandisk SD card & worked perfectly fine. I don't have to format the card to use it.
16gb adata here. no issues. was already formatted and loaded with music and pictures after being used in captivate.
I found that I had an issue with the small brass contacts that tell the phone that there is a card inserted. Drove me nuts.
as you hold the card right-side up (card slots at bottom) at the bottom left edge of the sd slot, between the sd and sim, you will see the two brass contacts.
With no sd card in, put enough pressure on them to give better tension - not too much else it might think you always have a card in.
no more problems for me - hope for you as well
32GB sandisk class 4 no issues here
I had a similar issue. I thought it wasn't recognizing my card but it actually wasn't properly contacting the SD-card slot. I got it to work with some adjusting.
Same, purchased Sandisk 32GB .. inserted, powered on, unmounted, formatted, waited about 2 minutes and then mounted .. no issues ..
bad sd socket / slot
hi,
I had the same problem using my 8gb sandisk microSD, that I previously used in my old Nokia. It wouldn't recognize that it was even inserted. I tried pulling it out and inserting again it several times without any luck, until I tried inserting it and drawing it as far out as the plastic flip that holds it in would let me. Then it worked right away, -no need for formatting or even mounting.
I had problems with a PNY card. Atrix would not see it at all to mount, unmount, format.............anything. I ended up removing and reinstalling the card with the phone powered on just as a "what if" and it popped up right away. I was able then to format and mount and have had no issues since.

This resolved my long lasting problem. Thanks buddy.
While I'm waiting for my Transformer+dock to be delivered, I'm looking to see if someone has experience using a USB cardreader on it.
I want to use my transformer to view pictures from my Sony camera (so it uses MemoryStick). So either I use the (bulky) proprietary camera USB cable or I use an external cardreader to access the Memorystick...
I suppose the internal cardreader in the dock doesn't support MS, right?
Any suggestions?
The eeePads card reader is micro SD and the docks card reader is full sized SD.. BUT here's an elegant suggestion to solve your problem... :
..I bought a 16Gb Class6 microSD card on amazon uk that came with a full sized SD adaptor & Sony memory stick adaptor bunled in
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0032CJIUG/ref=oss_product
.. so you put that card & memory stick adaptor in your Sony camera to take pix.. then when you're ready to view on the tablet, simply take the card out of its adaptor from the camera and put directly into the tablet (micro SD) or swap it into the full sized SD adaptor and read via the dock..
Nice!
Thanx for the tip.
Hi all....
Going on hols on Thurs and am taking an additional spare (class 4) 16gb microSD card, to go with the 32gb class 10 in my GS3 atm, as I'm planning on doing a lot of 720p cam stuff + pics, which can quickly swallow up storage on cards....
I've also got a USBOTG cable and a few pen drives filled with movies, music vids etc for the plane that I could also use if need be....
My question is about the hot-swapping of microSD cards on the S3. As it's now just a case of removing the battery cover to get access to the card; what is the correct procedure for swapping out the cards without causing any data corruption....is it simply, remove batt cover - eject card - insert new card....or do you have to unmount it via' Storage' in the phone's settings first....??
Ta for any advice....
Unmount first.
As for the rest, it's as you described.
Defintely unmout the SD card first then remove it (Not sure if you will have to remount the new one or if it will do it automatically).
K....thought so - just thought I'd check! Thanks for the quick answer both
Definitely unmount in storage first, or you'll find out the hard way (like me) that it can fry an SD card quite easily. Ruined a brand new 64GB card by just popping it out :silly:
