Hey all,
I find it incredibly stupid that car home keeps the standard wallpaper and just dims it. I'm using the album art wallpaper and it makes car home almost unusable.
Would it be possible to force the system to change the wallpaper to a black background when car home is in use and then change it back when you close it?
Thanks!
If your screen is too dark:
Look on bottom right corner, under EXIT CAR MODE. See the little > right arrow?
Hit that and change your screen brightness setting.
Automatic > Night > Day
As for changing the wallpaper. I've never heard about that possibility.
Maybe someone with theming or morphing skillz will come across this thread??!

That should be possible with Tasker.
Unfortunately I use settings profiles and would hate to pay for a software to handle this one thing. I wish CM could incorporate this change into the nightlies!
Would be easy to do with Tasker which is a great app anyway. I recommend getting it and I'm sure you'll find some other useful things you can do with it too (it should easily replace settings profile for you too)
This should be a simple change, but apktool is acting up and won't recompile the apk. Hopefully I will have one available soon.
Cool thanks! You rock.
This is turning out to be significantly harder than it should be. aapt seems to be ignoring the entire res/values folder, so even an empty decompile/recompile fails (but works fine for every other apk I throw at it), and MetaMorph is just flat out having no effect. I will keep working on it, but for now it seems hopeless by divine force.

Even if you can't get it, I appreciate the effort!
So you couldn't get it going?
I really haven't looked into it but isn't it possible to theme the app to use a black interface instead of the transparent one it uses now? I mean replace the transparent .png's with black ones.
The background does not use images, it specifies a theme resourse and adds a transparent black color. I have been trying to change that resourse, without apktool playing nice there is no real way to do this. I tried changing the theme by editing the smali code, but that is overridden by the view's style attribute, and the theme can't be set after the view is inflated.
From what I have found, the only two options with out the ability to compile resource files is either to implement the original idea of blacking the wallpaper on run, or editing the compiled binary xml blob manually.
I could always make a simple service app to change the wallpaper on car mode toggle, that would be easiest at this point.
Update: Did some research, its impossible to set a live wallpaper through code using the public API due to security concerns, so that removes all non-resource ideas. This has to be done through the style resources of CarHome itself.
Not sure where this would go, but..while browsing through the build.prop file, I noticed some "landscape" settings set to 1 (I'm assuming this would translate to a "yes"), and given that I mostly use my Streak in portrait, I wondered if changing any of these would make the lock screen convert to portrait instead of landscape. I'm using ADW launcher, set to portrait persistent, so that handles the issue most of the time, now I just need to get the lockscreen handled.
Ideas?
Another question...the "carrier menu bar", the one that shows "AT&T" is rather wide...which causes my notifications menu to shrink and not show all the info. Any way to shorten the carrier menu's width?
Would also be interesting for me to know if this would be possible!
Especially the lockscreen in portrait!

Where is this option in Widgetlocker? I bought it and then got a refund after scouring the menus and finding no 'lock in portrait' option.

There is no option for the portrait mode.
However in the previous version , the lockscreen was default in portrait mode.
WIth the new version its back to landscape mode.
I have mailed the developer but no reply yet @!!!!
If you noticed in the build prop landscape is spelled as "lanadscape" don't know if this an error or if is referring to something other than orientation. I've renamed it and changed it's value and haven't noticed any changes.
As for the carrier bar, I searched through the system files and couldn't find anything that points to dells custom ui so unless someone knows where these customizations are, I'm gonna keep searching but it should be a fairly easy tweak once the appropriate files are found.

There's a custom build.prop on modaco that messes with the customizations.

EDIT: Per the suggestions, I downloaded and can confirm it seems pretty amazing. A big learning curve though, doesn't seem intuitive. Working on that.
I Really would like to start using this app, but the permissions seem crazy to me. Everyone's thoughts? Am I just paranoid? The developer seems very legit and know's whats up... fan of XDA too... so, probably nothing, but I am so skeptical when an app needs so much (though, given the power of the app, it sorta makes sense)
This application has access to the following:

Hmm.. quick widget access?
I think you are just being paranoid. It's obviously a widely used app and as you can see a wonderful app to have.
If this was an unknown dev I would say do some research.
Thanks for this didn't know widgetlocker had themes!

yea like i have power amp so i put that widget there i also have my weather widget there also you can choose a different wallpaper aside from the one your phone has
I have been using it for a week or so now. I love having my fancy widget with weather on my lock screen but I get more use out of the Pandora Widget. control my music without having to unlock my phone when I pull it out of my pocket. added a slider for some things and its awesome. check out my layout i think it came out great personally.
How do I use the theme?

I've had it for a while but stopped using it, it would often default to system lockscreen and it runs in bg using resources, but it is pretty.PS. why are my screenies teh suck?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Cool! Thanks for posting this. I'm just not sure exactly how to use apply these themes. What exactly do we do with the .zips?
I want this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11817549&postcount=69
1. go the app menu and open widget locker (will not work from an already locked state )
2. Long press on open space
3. Select "Custom Slider"
4. click the drop down box to select a different slider from those installed or select "get themes" and download them directly.
5. customize the slider before you select "save"
EDIT: http://widgetlocker.teslacoilsw.com/themes-doc/installing-themes/ <-- how to install
Nvm we need 2.0 version lol
Alright, downloaded it... it looks like there is a little bit of a learning curve on this app. I will try reading the guides already out there and see if I can give a readers digest version later.
I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and love it. I got it specifically for keeping the audiogalaxy app on the locker as to have quicker access to pause or stop music. I have also grown fond of the rotary lock as well.
I've been using Widget Locker for months and I've never had a problem. I've just discovered the theming aspect of it so I'm excited to get into that. I'm wanting to theme the rotary and the normal android tabs like the lockscreens in Bionix 1.3, hopefully it turns out well! If someone's already done this, let me know where to find it
Here is my first attempt.....
Not perfect.
My Rezound seems to offer no way to change the Home Clock. I can add clocks, but I can't change or delete this one clock that is set to Arizona. I turned off Location Settings, too, but I still have the one Arizona clock (presumably because that's where Verizon ships from).
I am also trying to show a summary of a few scheduled activites on my Home screen, to no avail. It seems useless to me to have a Calendar widget that only shows one activity, because I would think people would want to see at least a few so they know what their day might be like, without having to always click on something. I know I have the option to select different views; trouble is that the other views are too big to be allowed to fit on the Home screen.
Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
FWIW, I don't know how Android got to be so popular. Although it LOOKS cool, it seems very clunky trying to find things (things are often not sensibly placed), and the stuff like changing a clock or displaying activities should be easier to do. Perhaps I am missing something? :crying:
That is a bug in the stock HTC CLOCK.
I live in upstate NY and my clock insists I am in new York city (if I use current location) and there is absolutely no way to delete that location.
I have tried deleting and reinstalling the clock etc and NYC just keep reappearing no matter what I do.
If I go to edit where it should be possible to delete NYC it isn't even listed.
This phone has been out for how long now? I run a software company myself, and there's no way we'd let a simple little bug like that ruin our reputation, never mind leaving our customers frustrated for this long. In fact, we'd have fixed something like that within days!
Thanks for letting me know that I spent nearly 20 hours on this phone, trying to figure it out. Do you happen to know if there is anything like a registry editor or something we can use to edit settings under the hood?
What about having an agenda listing on the Home screen, like Windows Mobile used to have? Know anything settings that might allow that? Or, am I wasting my time, there, too? I mean, first the clock, then I beat my head against the wall trying to get my Windows Media Player playlists to go across with HTC Sync, only to give up and manually copy them using "disk drive" mode. That's actually almost worse than the clock thing, in that HTC Sync offers the playlist option, but doesn't even see them on the PC!
For the calendar, which widget are you using. If you are using the one that is only 1 grid tall, that one is only made to show 1. If you need more than 1 event, just use the larger calendar widget.
Problem is that the other larger sized widgets aren't allowed to be place on the Home Screen, because a message says there is not enough room. SIGH

Tap the home button while on the Sense Rosie homescreen to bring the view out to display up to all 7 panels of the launcher. If you don't have all 7 active you have an option to add a panel. You may also delete an entire panel at once by tapping and holding the panel, then dragging to Delete. This allows you to add a fresh blank panel afterwards.
Alternatively, choose a panel to clear out manually. Tap and hold on icons and widgets until you enter an editing mode where you may reposition items or drag to the Delete icon.
It is simply wanting you to add a panel and/or clear out clutter manually first to ensure it doesn't delete your existing items.
Also note the Play Store has other launchers available you can try instead of HTC's Sense. Some allow more homescreens, but you will lose use of the widgets exclusive to the Sense interface. Some have comparable widgets integrated and there are apps with widgets in the Play Store too. It is suggested to get a feel for the stock Sense launcher a bit longer though.
Apologies for the double post, but wanted to address each topic seperate and Multi-Quote after the fact.

Take this with a grain of salt since I'm unfortunately running Sense 4 and not 3.5 or 3.6 right now. But I believe there should be a setting if you tap on the clock widget on your homescreen, go to the World Clock tab and hit the Menu button. If not there, then *somewhere* with the Menu for World Clock, perhaps when you select Edit if not the first option. If someone else could chime in on this.

A note to both of you: as far as this World Clock tab is concerned, this is precisely how a traditional traveler's clock works. It makes more sense when you realize the Home Clock is meant as the Home Time Zone. Just as when you set a time zone on a PC or forum, it usually just provides a list of major cities to choose from. I will say Sense 4 shows the current location in addition to this "Hometown" and unsure about older Sense but again, the primary function of World Clock is "nearby major city's timezone + time zones across other frequented or contacted locations."
Now jmoreton10, if the *weather* widget isn't showing your proper location, there is an issue with your Location settings. While the World Clock only can add and locate major cities, Weather should be able to tell where you are exactly by zip code. I may have had issues like that with both Verizon and Google location on; try using just Google location if you confirm Weather is not showing current location properly.

I don't think you understand what we're saying, or maybe we don't understand what you're saying. The Home clock does NOT display MY home. It displays someone else's home... in Arizona. I am in California. Moreover, the Home clock cannot be edited or deleted on the Home screen. However, if I add a traveler clock to ANOTHER panel/desktop/screen, I can choose what cities I want on it upon adding the widget, but once again, once the widget is added, if I click on the clock, I see the same Arizona Home clock in addition to the other cities I added. IIRC, Arizona does not change times when we "spring ahead" or "fall back" like we do here in CA. So, I think that kills your theory of a nearby major city in the same time zone, doesn't it? Same with those people seeing Detroit when they live in NY. Personally, I am really starting to hate Arizona!
New phone came in. Don't know if there's a difference, but it appears that there is a way to change the Home Clock. It's not very intuitive, but:
Click on the Clock Widget. On World Clock, choose the Menu button. Click Home Settings. Type your City, or SUPER HUGE MAJOR CITY nearby. Type VERY slow, because there is a very limited number of cities. If you type too fast for the app, it will give you a "not found" error. Dumb, I know, but at least we all now know WTH is wrong with this thing.
I got Themer today, and I really love how a lot of them look, but I ended up sticking with my plain stock because I like to have most things on the home screen in folders. I tried making a folder, but it didn't work.
Are there any themes that incorporate folders? Did I just do it incorrectly or are they not an option? I realize you can go into apps, and then use the categories, but I'd much rather have them on my home screen.
Plus, if I have an app, like my flashlight, that I really need on my home screen for accessibility, it's kind of obnoxious against the pretty, cohesive theme, and sticks out. If there was a folder I could stick it in on the home screen that matched the rest of the theme, it would look better. Does that make sense? I might just be rambling now.
It's a really cool app though, I like that you can do these things without rooting, I didn't realize that was possible. (My noob is showing... )

Hi Lumosx,
With Themer, there are multiple ways of adding folders.
First, you can drag and drop apps from the app drawer onto one you've already added. To do this:
1. Drag an app onto the app drawer that you'd like in your folder.
2. Then drag another app next to it; a popup may appear asking you to unlock widgets.
3. Select Yes and open the Desktop menu and deselect Lock homescreeen Icons.
You're now able to drag icons into one another, creating folders accordingly.
Alternatively, you can use Smart Category folders. These are the categories you see in the app drawer, and adding one of these does come with some advantages. To add one:
1. Long press on the homescreen > Advanced > Desktop > Unlock homescreen Icons.
2. Long press on the homescreen > Smart Categories > choose your preferred category.
3. Tap the icon > Select the overflow icon (3-dot icon) > Manage, in order to manually add/remove apps.
Now this category will be saved for every theme that you use.
To change the look of a folder (with both methods), long press on the icon > Edit > then select an icon either from selected packs or a simple image. Let us know if you need to find an image/icon to match your theme.
Hope this helps!
-Marco
I got it to work, thank you very much! I'm very happy with it now.
One more question: The only issue I have now is that there's one particular widget that tells me it's already added when I try to put it on the screen, but it's not actually there. Do you know what the problem could be? It came with the phone (Walkmate) if that matters.

What's your device and the widget called? We want to see if we can replicate this issue.
Also does it happen with all themes or one specific theme?
Lastly, is there room for the widget? What may happen is that a widget might take up the whole screen, not allowing for any widgets to be added. Deleting all the widgets on the page and try to add this widget will help us figure out what's causing the problem.
I have a Galaxy S3, the widget is Walkmate. It should fit, it's small and I have at least half the screen free. I tried when the screen was blank as well. The theme is Frosted Glass. I tried using a random theme as well and it still didn't work (it was Hi-Tech).
It's not a huge issue or anything.
