Ffc mod for fascinate? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to mod the fascinate to install front facing camera? I know vibrant has the mod available...why not for fascinate?

This has been discussed several times before... it works on the vibrant because it simply has the room to do and, and it is GSM so the i9000 software works for it. Its just not possible on the fascinate.

GPS issues?

I know the Vibrant doesn't come out for a few more days but one thing that has made me very hesitant about purchasing this device are the GPS issues found on the international Galaxy S. Supposedly the phone wont lock on more than 8 satellites or any satellites with less than 20 snr. People are reporting the nav cursor will quite often jump around if it loses signal. I use Google Navigation a lot and this would be a huge problem.
Anyone else concerned? Hopefully the US firmware will have fixed this.
I'm also curious about this. Can somone who has gotten their hands on the vibrant early comment?
I've got mine... it seems to work better then the G1, locks really fast.
check the other threads - the issue does seem to have been firmware version related
the one user, sdjean - his phone did a 180 in terms of gps reception, and there's another interesting comment from another user that experienced gps reception / sat lock issues at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725748
i had the same concerns but after seeing the issues resolving from firmware updates and other postings as the above, i'm going ahead
And months later, the GPS still has problems.

Mine was horrid when running stock 2.1 JI6.
Running Bionix-v for the last few days and the GPS has been right on the money. First time since owning the phone that it locks on and nails my position in under 30 seconds.

Actually, I was running JI6 stock until I upgraded to KA6 via Mini Kies a few days ago. The GPS was HORRIBLE. No lock at all no matter how long I left it.
BUT I decided to do a factory reset before turning the phone in and it turns out that fixed everything. I get locks indoors now.

How much drift/variation are you talking about?

Can anyone help me out? I'm very familiar with running custom roms on captivates. But did a vibrant for a friend yesterday and installed Bionix-v as it seems like that is a popular rom that is supposed to help GPS. But his GPS will not lock at all. I was going to post something in that thread but didn't want to get flamed to hell. Are there any roms that are better for GPS? Or maybe I should try flashing Bionix again? I also read somewhere that there is some sort of hardware fix for the vibrant?
Thanks
Download Samsung GPS Restore apps from the Market and after install reboot your phone then run apps when its done then reboot your phone, then try open your GPS Navigation and test it, mine works after upgrade my Samsung Vibrant official froyo from t-mobile.

I flashed Bionix V and the GPS works fine, but if it doesn't, I would try a factory reset first. The Samsung Restore App made mine worst when I was still on stock JI6. It might work for you though, it gives different results. There is a thread in General forums for Vibrant that shows you how to hardware fix the Vibrant. It's called Correct GPS Fix or something like that.

[Q] Anyone try I9000 ROM with Captivate froyo Kernel

Hey, was just wondering if anyone has tried to flash an I9000 (lets say JPK) ROM with the Captivate 2.6.32.9 Froyo Kernel? if I can run the vibrant ROMs on my captivate with some file pushing could this work well enough for you guys to fix the rotation and audio logic on the I9000 Froyo ROMs? just asking, I would try if I had a Vibrant. I can throw something together for someone to flash but I would be skeptical to ask someone else to try without myself having tested it. If this has been addressed already then I suck at searching the threads and please kindly let me know and I will rid of this post.
We would end up in the same place as before.
Lack of kernel support for the hardware.

[Q] can someone please explain...

...to me how they have 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 ROM's for the captivate but here we stand( along with every other version of the us Galaxy S) still in the dark with the exception of a 2 incomplete ROM's.... not that I'm ungrateful to that but what is the missing link between the 2 phones that should essentially be almost identical. Right?
Drivers.
We need drivers source.
our gb roms are as good as complete.
We just need gps, drivers, but eugene has said to have fixed it already.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got gb this month...
That would be amazazing (misspelled on purpose lol)
The captivate is lucky on the way their gps is. The GPS is called on the same way that the i9k is while the vibrant does call it the same way. (This is paraphrased from people who know how the GPS binaries are called).

[Q] Verizon Fascinate Gingerbread Release -- When?

So I have the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon using radio ED04 on Froyo.
I get calls that come in with no indication. I don't get all my text messages. I once got a voicemail 2 days after it was left (this may be an actual rare fluke and not linked to the main issues with the phone). Sometimes I get no indication of text messages until I un-sleep my phone (maybe a random coincidence in timing).
It's getting annoying, BUT it's not annoying enough yet to take the time to learn about flashing and ROM's and radio changes and the like.
My current questions are...
1) Do you think Gingerbread is going to fix these issues?
2) When do you think Gingerbread is going to be officially released on Verizon for the Fascinate?
2a) Do you think it's going to run into the same issue the Froyo release had for the US?
Hm, I have ED04 and I don't have that problem...

Well lets see, we got a bunch of froyo leaks and it took about 3-4 months for vzw to finnaly release Froyo. We just got a gingerbread leak, I say another 3-4 months.
Hey, there's the unofficial EC09 leak, and a couple of De-B'd (de-binged, de-bloated) ROMs based on it. You could try those if you don't mind potentially frying your SD card, not being able to play video or auto-rotate your screen, and generally having more force closes than Darth Vader
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
You could try following the instructions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132236) to flash the EC09 modem by itself (since modems are independent of the ROMs, you shouldn't run into the problems with the EC09 ROMs).

if there was an official gingerbread release before september id be really shocked

[Q] Root from 2.3.6?

Sup all,
I am somewhat familiar with rooting. I rooted several tmobile g2's in the past and loaded them with CM7 and what not. However, I am having some trouble with my Tmobile Vibrant.
I recently got my phone back from samsung and it has gingerbread 2.3.6 on it. I was just wondering, how i could root the phone and flash ICS roms? All the guides i have seen are for 2.2 or 2.1 and I really dont want to brick my phone again. I don't know why working with my vibrant has been so frustrating but i would really just like to know what to do step by step.
Thanks for reading and for any help you guys provide, I really appreciate it.
Umm, I would be very interested to know what your "About Phone" says (since you can't get a copy of the build.prop w/o being rooted). Especially the model number, ROM description and Kernel. Samsung does not have an "official" GB ROM running for the Vibrant. The GB ROMs that we have are mainly ports and kangs and have and will never come from Sammy.
I would suggest you make sure you have a T959 and not another model and also double check the above before you do anything. Once you do that, come back and let us know and we will help you further. But until then, I would say you run a risk of screwing it up if it is the wrong model number and try to flash a T959 ROM on a T959v or I-9000 phone.
I'm betting you have a galaxy s 4g (aka t959v). This is now the wrong forum for you to be looking in, since we are the vibrant section.

hah i bought this phone used so i didn't even know there was a 3g and 4g variant...it is the t959V
firmware version
2.3.6
baseband
t959VUVKJ6
kernel
2.6.35.7-t959vuvkj6-cl694130
is there anyway a moderator could have this thread moved to the appropriate section?
Thanks for your quick responses guys
how do i "thanks" you guys?
Wow. I have the EXACT same scenario. Did you ever figure it out?

Probably have better luck figuring it out in the Vibrant 4g forums.
