Caller screen issues - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm currently running the 6.1.3 cytogen modwith tweaks nd have run into an issue.
While talking to someone first off the sensor history sensitive I believe cause the screen is constantly turning on and off. This leads to a problem cause the mute button is in the upper corner right where my ear touches.
Needless to say as much as I enjoy my own voice its counterproductive when I accidentally put ppl on hold.
Is there some way to fix this. Either through adjusting the sensor settings or some how moving/removing the hold button
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

same problem thought it was my big ears!

Same thing happens with MIUI too
(and I am fairly certain that my ears are small!! )
I think it has to do with how custom ROMS handle the sensor. They are over-sensitive!

Also very curios? is there a system .prop that can be changeD?
Please do something, i must turn noise reduction off everytime. blq.
any idea how to turn off the N.C?
I noticed something totally strange today on my SGS2.
The noise reduction works great - leaving the phone next to my speaker (playing music) i couldn't hear any music on the other line!
BUT ... after i bought a protective phone cover (made of some hard rubber) i noticed that during a call, the one on the other line can hear it's voice with an echo. Removed the protective phone cover - problem gone. If i put the phone near this cover during a call - BANG, problem reappears.
Disabling noise reduction fixes the problem (even with the cover on the phone) for good, but it sucks that you have to disable it on each call.
There MUST be a way do disable NC for good ...

[App] Power Switch - screen off by closing case

Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the tab's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Many thanks!, Looks very interesting, will try it out and see how it does with my Tab.
Let me know if the light sensor work properly please!
Got Pro version on my phone, works great.
Will try it on my tab soon.
I'll check it out when i get home.
Works great on my tab too. Thanks mate.
Edit: I noticed on my phone after testing it on and off a few times, the light sensor stopped working. But after rebooting, I havent seen the problem since.
And I've yet to see a problem on my tab.
So the light sensor works? Can you log some sensitivity settings for me so i can fine tune it...

Like in different lighting settings? Like dimming the lights in the room? Or using different Sensitivity %s and closing the case?
Or all of the above?
Oh and after some extensive use on my DroidX, I've been having some problems. It turns off while I'm using the phone even in very lighted surroundings.
---------- Post added at 09:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 AM ----------
I'm at work right now but I tried a few things.
I'm using a Belkin Folio case and i tested to see how low i could set the % for it to read when the case was closed.
Anything under 10% didn't work (even when i completely covered the light sensor with my finger)
On 100%, even a shadow over the sensor would trigger it.
I'll try a few different lighting instances when I get home.
Thats cool, thanks!

You should be using the proximity sensor, not the light sensor for the phone!

Actually...to be honest, I dont even need it on my phone because its a habit of mine to hit the power button as im setting it down or putting it in my pocket.
I do love it on my tab though. Makes it easier just being able to close my case instead of trying to find the power button lol.
Can't remove this app from my tab! Help please

Do you have "Enable Power Switch" Checked?
EDIT: If you're using a tablet with a case that covers the screen when you close it, here's what you need...
1. Check "Enable Power Switch"
2. Check "Admin Permissions" (this gives the app permission to lock your screen or turn the tablet off)
3. Check "Enable Sensors"
4. Check "Use Light Sensors" (I recommend 10-20% Sensitivity)
5. Set up your Confirmation and Activation Delay.
---Activation Delay is how long it takes for the device to read if the case is closed or not. (If you set it to 0 seconds, your screen will cut off even if you simply brush something up against the light sensor on accident) I keep mine at 3 seconds.
---Confirmation Delay starts after you Activation Delay ends. It is a confirmation dialogue box that asks what you want to do. Once the timer for it runs out, it will lock your screen/turn the screen off. (I keep mine at 3 seconds for this as well but you might want it longer)
To recap...Set Activation Delay for how long you want the device to wait before it makes a decision if it should turn off your screen or not. Set Confirmation Delay for how long you want it to wait after the Activation Delay ends to actually turn off the screen.
((If you don't have a case that covers the screen and you want it to turn off when you put your tab upside down, replace step 3 with *Check "Acceleration Sensor"* And make sure you Uncheck "Use Light Sensor"))

[Q] AT&T SGSII - Turn Over Silence Feature?

Hey everybody!
I just joined so this is my first post and I am a iPhone 3GS convert. I am finding that the turn over silence feature only works if the phone already starts ringing. It does not silence future calls/notifications. This seems totally useless as it can also be silenced by pressing one of the volume buttons.
I would like to silence all calls and notifications by turning the phone face down and have it revert to normal mode when turning it over or picking it up, etc...
Is this possible? This feature is weak and useless and I cannot believe this is how it was implemented. Is my phone defective?
Thanks in advance!
This feature works when a incoming call is coming
when phone is on a flat surface with this motion effect activated, you will not get anysound or vibrations or you will get sound or vibration for just one second or even less
there is bug in this feature to be sorted out i think
Thanks for your response!
For me it doesn't silence anything. The phone rings and notifies as if it was in normal mode. There is no change in the behavior and I am positive the feature is enabled in the settings > motion menu. If it is a bug I hope they fix it because this a useful feature for me.
Are there any apps that might provide this functionality?

Welcome to XDA!
Thank you. I have submitted a request to have it moved.
Bump........
I'm afraid to say it but what you're asking for is not the intention of the feature as it is. They designed the motion control in this scenario for you to quickly grab your phone and turn it up side down to silence the ring without having to press a button, etc. I agree that's it's not all that great but I can see the benefit for some people.
Your phone is not defective, it just doesn't work the way you thought it would.
And just to add a little logic to the scenario... the feature is called 'motion' so it only works when motion occurs. If the phone is resting upside down, that's not the same thing.
It's called Motion Activation. You hear a phone call comes in, flip it over, the ring silenced. If you keep the phone upside down, there is no motion to activate anything and it won't silence anything. It only works for incoming calls and you need to flip the phone at the right time. Useless feature, as are all other Motion Activation features listed there.
Brilliant! So does this include notifications from text messages too? They must last at least a second or two. If I react quickly I could possibly silence around half of the notification! Useless! If this is truly the intended functionality then that is rediculous to me. Not to mention useless.
The point is putting the phone into a mode that emits no noise; not reacting to a noise that anyone that can fog a mirror can hear and then "flipping my phone over to silence it." If I flip the phone over then I don't want it to make noise. If the phone doesn't have that feature then fine. I find it a useful feature that is missing or poorly described/implemented at best.
"Logic to the situation?" Please. There is no logic in implementing a turn over silence feature the way you have described.

LoL. If you read the other Motion features Samsung implemented here, one of them is zoom in and out. The procedure is quite laughable and in the end, it is ten times easier to just pinch zoom on the screen. I don't know why Samsung even waste time on this.
Try these apps
Have you tried Flip4Silence or Flip-Silent? Both are free apps and seem to have decent reviews.
Thanks! I will definitely give those apps a try. I appreciate the response.
Cheers.

Hi guys,
After many hours of searching around the web i found a solution for this problem.
You just need to calibrate you phone, to do this follow the procedure:
1) Place your phone on the flat surface
2) Go to Settings > Display > Horizontal Calibration > and hit Calibrate
3) Go to Settings > Display > Gyro sensor calibration > and hit Calibrate
Now try the turn over feature
1) Go to settings > Motion > enable Turn Over
under tutorial > Turn over > Try > OK > once it starts ringing flip your phone
This should work fine!!
Cheers!!

I must be dense. If you want the phone to be quiet when sitting why not just put it into Silent mode?

I agree.
The feature is not there for a long term "silent mode", it is there to quickly silence the phone if it rings during a conversation, conference call, meeting, etc. I can it being useful for many people.

NOT! Playing With The Proximity

I'm Using My Xperia S Quite A Long, This Is My First Android Phone So Far!:cyclops:
Now Straight Coming To The Problem:silly:
In Market, There Seems To Be So Many Cool Apps Dealing With The Proximity Sensor Like:
1>Proximity Screen Off
2>Wave Control
etc
Well It Seems There Is No Problem Installing It, Or Crash (or force Close)
BUT
On These Application Gesture Function Nothing Seems To Work EXCEPT The 'COVER & HOLD' Mode
[e.g: say I Set 'Swipe Once' To Turn Off The Screen And 'Swipe Once' To Turn On The Screen...NO NOTHING WORKS!:crying:
Now Put 'Cover & Hold' To Both Turn On And Off The Screen Just As Before (in different gesture)...Works Like A Charm:laugh:]
Same Case Happens In Wave Control ('Default Pause Or Play' On 'Cover & Hold' Works, But 'Next Song' On 'Swipe Once' Doesn't Work:crying:
I've Even Uploaded A Video (SORRY FOR LOW QUALITY with Nokia X6 :silly Showing The Problem In 'Proximity Screen Off' App
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CVFaV2QeIk
If Anyone Is Having The Same Problem Please Post It Down And Of Course The Solutions Are MOST WELCOME
AnYoNe!!??
Proximity Screen Off didn't work too well with my Xperia S...it had a problem with immediately switching the screen right back on after it triggered a screen off. I'm using Smart Screen Off myself, which I think is the best one of these sensor on/off apps I've seen yet. It has a lot of options and seems to have a better calibration for your proximity sensor and gyroscope. Not only can you trigger your screen on and off with the proximity sensor, but you can also shake the phone to turn the screen on/off, and flip it over to turn the screen off. I'm using a hand wave to turn the screen on, combined with a screen off widget and the flip over motion for turning the screen off, and it works great.
I do wish somebody could make an app like PGM Nexus for Xperias, that is an amazing app that's sadly for the Galaxy Nexus only. You can turn on your screen by just swiping left to right on the screen, or double tapping on it with that app. Swiping right to left at the screen bottom turns the screen back off.

Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I never mentioned vibrations!!!
I should have explained it a little better though
when you make or receive a call and you are on the phone the screen turns off and disables all button presses because the proximity sensor is covered
but even though the display is off and the sensor is covered you can still press buttons whilst on the phone
so far I have tried sending a text
cut people off
muted the phone
put the phone in to airplane mode
added events to my calendar
and more
all this with the side of my face while in a call
