text messaging space full? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every once in a while, my text messaging app says the phone storage is full and to delete stuff to free up space, but I checked and i have a lot of free space left. I guess I have a lot of texts but that shouldn't matter right?

I've seen this a few times too. Have to reboot to fix.

Saving Text/Picture Mail on Storage Card

Is there anyway of saving all your text messages and picture mail messages on the storage card instead, so it doesn't use the main memory?
Thanks,

no way to keep it from using the memory in your phone. There is a way to store your texts in a excel file and back them up though, which is kinda cool. also gives you other features like, group messaging, who do you text the most, what times of the day do you text the most. pretty cool app. Its called POWER SMS. google it.

SMS Limit Alert

I have no limits on my SMS messages (cause I'm a packrat), yet every time I open the messaging application it asks me if I'd like to set limits on conversations. I select "no limits" every time, but it still pops up every time.
Haven't seen this posted anywhere, so am I the only one?
Are you using the default messaging app? It sounds like caused by a 3rd party app setting or some kind of data restriction that you've put on it.
And you do have unlimited text right? Check your t-mo myaccount app to see if you've put the alert on.
I tried to ask the same thing. Nothing yet.

This is only an issue for extreme SMS packrats....
In the message app settings you can disable the auto deletion of messages that run past the set cap (defaults are 200 for sms, 20 for mms). So, disable deletion and increase the cap.
The SMS setting apparently has a hard cap at 5000. If that isn't enough ...well.....although that not being enough would normally entice me to make semi sarcastic remarks about hobbies, spare time, and the relative power of ones sphincter muscles, there are at least apps that can backup your sms threads for you.
SMSBackup for instance will let you backup SMS threads to your gmail acct. Since you can always access your gmail acct from your phone, this should be as good as packratting every friggin text directly on your phone. If you need to remind someone of what they said to you 7996 messages ago, sheerly for the "told you so factor" this can work. A bit creepy, but this can work!
And this is but one of many apps to back up SMS....
Consider the hard limit a feature, and backup your SMS to get them off your phone. That's my two cents...
Thank you. That's a great approach to this problem. It solves it for me.

[Q] SMS on Storage Card

i have a htc hd2 ... how can i set when i receive a message . the message stored at sd card ?
or is there a way ?
to clean after receiving the sms from phone memory and save it to sd card.
with a huge amount of sms the device become slower and slower and often only a new rom is the solution for my problems. .
hope you can help me.
with kind regards
Have you went to your messaging app and clicked on menu at tje bottom and then settings and, selected for hour deleted messages to be removed imidiately? If you have not then when you delete hour messages they are not deleted but just removed from veiw, you have to click on the menu button at the bottom of the massaging app and then select clear meassages to perminently delete the messages. But if you select to have them deleted imidiately they delete when you select delete and you don't have to do anything else.

[q] database storage low!!?!?

I have a samsung vibrant, which is currently running bionix v and I have been getting the same error message "database storage is getting low" for a couple months now. I have had a couple different lag fixes and around ten different rooms on the phone. This message when I receive this message, I cannot receive texts anymore and the phone also becomes laggy to a point where it is unusable. I have Odin backed to stock at least seven times and master reset around 10 to try to fix this in the past two months but the message still pops up. It used to only pop up when I opened the web and I would be able to get rid of it by clearing the web data in manage apps but recently, it won't go away. I have 8 gb empty on my phone, around 30 apps installed, 60 contacts, and never over 100 text messages. I manage app, the app taking up the most data is flash and thats at 7 mb, all other apps and functions are under 1 mb. Is there any way to fix this? Or is it screwed?
Try to google your question. These are the first three that I found. Looks like most are clearing the "data" and not the "cache" to correct the issue. It looks like something about FB linking with your contacts might be an issue as well. Although I can't believe that would be an issue if you are saving your contacts to your gmail. Good luck!

Yeah, It usually goes away after I clear the data of web, but then again the data of web will only be at 400 kb when I get the message. I don't connect my contacts to Facebook. And the only app I have that takes up over a mb is flash. Everything is under a mb.
Do you save contacts to gmail or phone?
Also, i think when I skimmed through some of those posts a lot of people got good results from a factory reset. Have you tried that as well?

[Q] Why whatsapp (Android) stays in background?

Can you explain to me why whatsapp stays always active in memory?
Apps like Bump are not in background and receive messages as well (push...).
Thanks
There's no reason not to. If the app stays in memory than it can start faster. And no it's not eating your battery unless it shows up on the battery usage screen.
Ok, but sometimes when i open browser or other apps the system close Go launcher ex, i suppose to free some memory... If i have in memory apps i don't want to, the system can close the app i don't want to close...
Hope i explained myself...
The system probably prioritizes whatsapp over the launcher because it needs to be active to receive messages.
