I keep running into this problem. If I try running any version of EC10 voodoo kernel my data signal drops from two bars to zero when in use, and speedtest speeds are very low, and every other time I do a speed test it comes up with -0 on the download speed and skips right over it. If I switch back to the EB16 kernel it stays more consistent at two bars and speed tests seem quicker. I've tried different radios DL09 and higher and they don't make a difference.
Does anyone else see this or have an idea what could be causing this? I hate to keep using older kernels but right now they give better results.

Ive been noticing the same thing! 2+ bars then all of a sudden 0 bars of slow connectivity! im on SC 2.9.2.
any ideas anyone?
I wonder if it's due to undervolted kernels?

Have you updated your PRL version (*228 option 2)?

Yes I have tried updating the PRL and it's current. That's not the issue. I can be sitting in my chair and watch the signal drop with EC10, switch to EB16 and signal improves without getting out of my chair and holding the phone the same way.

Getting much better speeds using new ec01. 1.7 mbps download speeds .7 upload. This is with one to two bars.

Can anyone explain difference between: *22899 and *228 option 2 if any?
I found that signal seems to be a lot more stable on any of the AOSP based roms (MIUI, CM6, AOSP).

I'm not quite sure what the JXX Modems do.
I tried google and XDA, and someone posted a question and no one replied [maybe cause (s)he sounded like a jerk].
Flashable JI6 Modem (Low battery life, data seems potentially higher in low signal areas)
Flashable JI2 Modem (High battery life, data seems potentially lower in low signal areas)
Flashable JFD Modem (Stock modem file)
[I got this from the Tean Whiskey site]
Can someone enlighten me?
i would also like to know the answer to this please! also, whats the difference between ji6/ji2/jfd/ AND the new jpm?
Real quick overview
Stock is simply the one that came originally on the phone
JI2 has much improved battery life over both stock and JI6, signal strength is supposed to be about the same as stock
JI6 is reported to have much improved signal strength in low signal areas BUT at a cost of battery life. Aka stronger signal but faster battery drain then JI2.
Which one should you use? It depends on whats most important to you. If you need the best signal possible JI6, if you want the best possible battery life JI2.
what about jpm, the new froyo baseband? is that any good compared to the others?

adm1jtg! When you say lower battery life, how much lower in terms of hours?
If the difference is one hour I would rather use JI6 since my privider doesn't deliver a good signal.
Thanks.
So what version is the ota ji6?

Is that a serious question?
How do you think the modems got their names? From the firmware build names that Samsung used.
JI6 modem = JI6 firmware (ota)
JI2 modem = JI2 firmware (leaked)
JFD modem = JFD firmware (stock)

For me personally JI6 was horrible battery life. With a good rom and JI2 I could run 24 plus hours with lightish use. With JI6 I couldn't make it 8 hours same exact config. I also didnt personally notice any difference in data speeds at all and I am in a good signal area so cannot comment on increased signal strength from JI6

The new froyo builds by eugene all use JI6 or JI2
My battery also drains fast with JI6, but I get signal at work and with JI2 I don't, so it's worth it for me. But, I have a charger at work, so it's not really a big deal & I have a couple spare batteries that I can swap when needed.
If battery life is important to you, then I honestly suggest staying away, you can watch your phone and see the battery drop!

Actually the new froyo roms are based on jpm.

thanks for responding.
I will try to stay with JI6 for now because my provider has a very weak signal in many locations.
Does JI2 has a fix for the GPS issue?
Which modem provides best signal? I realize that performance varies by location. Just want to know what works for you.
For me the KA6 and the KB1 Both are about the same except the KB1 has better battery life.
Depending on your ROM it may be a little different on the battery life but for the most part these 2 are the fastest
KB1 ...love it...faster internet network....signal as well...and battery i havent really test it but i have read that on bionix it drains battery fast..
KA6 for me. I hit ~5mb down and ~1.5 up regularly on HSPA. With KB1 I usually only get 3g no H in my apartment.
Ka7 for.signal, but kb1 has.the.best mixture for.me.

KB1 here too.
KB1 is the best for me also. Nothing else is even close.
Im using sweet honey 2.5 with the Overstock 1.4.1 Kernel and the KA6 modem and i have AMAZING battery life.
comparison: i was running bionix 1.3.1 and whatever is stock in the and half way throught the day (6 hr period at work) my battery would be from 100 down to 68 with no use.
I am now running SH 2.5 with what i stated and now my battery is only down to 92 after the same time with no use.
This is going to depend on the area you live in and how the towers are set up. Try them until you find out what works best for you. Modems are quick and easy to flash, and not very invasive on the rest of the OS. Install and make some calls and run some internet speed tests. This will help you find out what will work best for you.
Ka7 colorado here.

How about a little more information like what rom you are using?
I've noticed this too. At first I thought it was mostly because I went from a Froyo 6+ reception bar to the GB 4 reception bar, but it does seem to have a higher -##dBm than I remember in Froyo. The difference isn't a ton and I'm still able to make/take calls so I'm not giving it too much thought.
The good thing I've noticed is, I'm not losing signal as much as I did with the old radio. My signal bars would disappear a TON with the old radio. This radio holds the connection and that's a *huge* winner in my book. Otherwise I would have stayed with Das BAMF 1.7 Senseless.
Signal
This might be a small liking to Apples "Antennagate" scandal. The new radio seems tolerate more fluctuations then the original radio, and in doing so raise the "bar" (sorry had to) on whats needed for a acceptable signal.
I'm running gingeritis Rom ver 1.0 final, of @ 1408 and seeing red theme. I did notice after flashing this theme is really when I noticed it but guys I work around seem to have the same signal strenth which is def lower

I've been running CM7 RC1.2 for the past couple of days and I've noticed the battery draining extremely fast. The cell standby is using the most of my battery. I tried both the leaked MR2 and the OTA MR2 radios and have had the same effect with both. Stock with the MR1 radio was perfectly fine.
Should I try the MR1 radio with the MR1 version of CM or is there a simple fix that I'm missing?
(I would have asked this in the CM7 info thread, but I don't have 10 posts, yet. )
Edit: I'd also like to add that I'm in a 3g only area, atm.
I'd try reflashing the ROM before anything else, the ln try going back to MR1

I switched kernels and now it seems to be better. I was originally using Slayher's CM7 kernel, then drod169's KangBang. nerozehl's dreamKernel seems to have fixed it. I'll have to try it for a bit longer to see if that was the issue, if it isn't I'll reflash.
Having the same issue here on RC1.3.
Phone sat around all day and the battery is destroyed. I'm trying dream kernel now, we'll see.
I find AOSP ROMs in general have a very high cell standbye(and yes, only with AOSP). I was having the exact same issue when I had the Incredible 2.

I agree. Any AOSP ROM I've tried on the Tbolt, I get a high cell standby batter usage, as well as Android System. I've tried multiple combinations of Kernels/Radios/AOSP ROMs and all have the same result.
Currently using SynergyROM (sense 2.1 based) with ziggy's kernel and MR2 OTA Radio, and getting pretty good battery life, and my cell standby time is like 3%
Battery stats are always reported incorrectly on AOSP Roms.

Hey everyone. I'm a recent Fascinate convert coming from a Droid X and CM7.
I've got CM7 on my Fascinate and am using the Glitchv13 kernel. Absolutely love the performance and battery life, however my modem/baseband seems to be a bit sketchy at times.
I'm wondering what your opinions are on the best modem for the Fascinate at this time. I'm currently using the EH03 modem.
I need reliable phone, text and data connectivity. I don't care so much about speed so much as I just need my data connection to stay up as much as possible. I've had several data dropouts on the EH03 modem already, some fix themselves while other require the airplane mode toggle or a reboot in the extreme cases.
Thanks!
I have not had any such issues with EH03... It has been rock solid.
Each person can have different results with a different modem. But as for me, I have to say EH03 has been more stable than all the others I have tried.
ec09 is the most stable withthe least amount of 1x switching. The problem is no matter what modem you have, on mtd based roms data dropping is a known issue in low signal areas. Luckily for me it was never a issue, other than having to toggle airplane mode occasionally.
Thanks for the replies, everyone.
I ended up rolling back to EC09. It seems to be more stable for me (data being solid for almost a full day now where it was dropping every few hours before).
I'm generally not in low signal areas and just about never use Wi-Fi. We have 3G everywhere so I'm not sure why I was having such awful luck with EH03.
Hopefully it keeps running smoothly. *knock on wood*
ec09 has been the most stable for me. consistent speeds and stability.
eh03 gave me lower ping times but the speed was to slow.
ed05 seems to be all over the place.
I've never switched from EC01 since it dropped (yes, before original official Froyo).
Never got caught in the missed calls stuff or anything.
I had missed calls every day with every radio I flashed until EH03. On my phone, in my service area, EH03 has been the most reliable by far!
Yeah for me its EH03 but its also the slowest of the three, but it's easily the most reliable too so I stick with it

In my expierences, Miui does not have any data drop out issues. It only seems to happen in CM7 and VGB.
