Hello guys...i need some help flashing CM-7...i'm running stock froyo KB1 and i don't know how to start...thanx
First, you need to read the directions in the CM7 development thread.
If you're having problems following those directions, then you probably shouldn't be trying out this rom because if you don't know your way around your phone, you're screwed if you need to start over.
This isn't your normal rom installation.

This in addition to the guide maybe?
Go ahead and root, then follow the guide, using the video as a reference as there is a part different (MUCH easier for us)
I just flashed it.

so you have a stock Vibrant...you wanna overclock?
Are you rooted? Im pretty sure that too run a different kernel you need a diffrent rom other than the stock JFD.
You might get more answers if you posted in the right section.
Its the ji6 I think

dont bother giving him crap just help the guy. mods can clean it up and move it later.
ok well 1st off - know that what your about to do can potentially brick or damage your device and that myself, xda, jesus, mary and the hly ghost, the hobo behind the walmart and your aunt frank have nothing to do with this so you can only blame yourself
i would get to know ODIN real well first off. make sure you are able to get into download mode. via the hardware method OR ADB
use the Vibrant bible to find info on that.
I apologize guys I'm assuming this belongs in q&a

Not trying to be a wiseguy but:
Read the "Vibrant directory ( Bible ) and search this forum. Look for the subjects you're interested in. All questions are answered you just need to study before you start.
Learn how to use odin - if you follow the links you will have everything you need to get back to stock in an emergency.
Read about and learn how to use one click root.
Read about and learn how to use Rom Manager to flash roms
Use Titanium backup to backup your apps
Good luck and have fun!
Ok real quick I have odin I have the stock vibrant rom from xda I am pretty good with this stuff just new to this phone I also have a few roms but kinda wanna wait for 2.2 but would like a new kernel I have rom manager and a back up of my rom but I am having a problem getting adb to work just been using the terminal apk but I need help.with this and thank you for your time

im currently rolling TeamWhiskeys Obsidian V2
its a 2.2 Froyo based off the tmobile leak
everything works as it should and its fast and very stable.
OP you need to spend a couple hours reading and understanding several things. Most if not all you need is in the vibrant bible thread. If you can't get adb to work its almost always the driver. Must understand odin just in case something goes wrong. Its hard to truely brick this phone but not impossible.

Echo,echo...read the Bible. And also the Tips and Tricks thread. Basically all the ones that are Stickies. I came from a stock blackberry with no knowledge and I've successfuly flashed at several Roms and kernels and soft bricked a few times. The stickies saved me.

No, that only saves your data and apps. You need to save it or you can use the ones located in the vibrant library. You can always revert back to stock using odin but do so AT YOUR OWN RISK... Good luck

The Bible is the greatest thing EVER.
Just seriously use how to use Odin. If you can learn how to get into download mode consistently and connect to odin successfully you will be fine. Then learn how to use recocery, which is very easy on the vibrant. you just install ROM manager from the market and flash clockwork mod recovery. learn how to backup and restore and you can flash things through recovery. Zips are for recovery, and Tar files are for Odin. If you want to OC i recommend "Corev2" by team whiskey (since JAC has dissapeared) which works with most ROMs and should work well with stock rooted. There is Odin files and zip files for stock kernels, jfd and ji6, which you could just flash over if you dont like it. Nandroid backups dont backup kernels, so make sure you have the right kernel on when you restore something. You can find everything in the BIBLE like everyone has told you to try. One word of the wise, if you load a Froyo 2.2 on your phone and then revert back to 2.1, make sure you flash a 2.1 kernel first before you restore. So many people think they brick after they do that.
And usually if you are waiting for official firmware, it appears here on XDA ready to flash (i flashed official ji6 before it was availible OTA) at some point. I would recommend you use a rooted ji6 ROM with Corev2 (and possibly the ji2 modem to save battery life but i like the ji6 modem) this will let you OC and UV without setcpu. this is kind of a scattered response but im just trying to help. I am running AOSP jk2 1.1 by Anderdroid and i LOVE IT.
It looks like you have everything ready on your phone.
Just learn Odin, you don't really need ADB. Make sure your phone can go into the download mode via the vol up and vol down key and connect USB cable for download mode. Its a Triangle Icon with android robot with shovel.
There you should load the Pit file and Tar file to flash back to Stock in case you brick you phone. As far as flashing ROM goes, remember this!!
If you flash a 2.1 Kernel + ROM like Fusion 1.2, and create a Nandroid backup through ClockWork. Then decided to go to a Froyo 2.2 kernel + ROM like Obsidian or MacnutR11 to try out. Do not restore Nandroid backup to 2.1, it will brick your phone requring u to ODin back to stock.
Bottom line 2.1 ROM will not work with 2.2 kernel and 2.1 kernel will not work with 2.2 ROM. Don't mix them up.
Basically if you are running a 2.1 kernel + rom, then switch to 2.2 kernel and rom. For some reason you don't like it, make sure you flash back to 2.1 kernel + rom instead of doing a nandroid restore.
I've been following the progress on Kaoscinate's cm7 gingerbread post. I was wondering if anyone would be helpful enough to post a step by step direction to get it on a fascinate. My phone is rooted, running a custom rom and kernel, however I am not running a vodoo build (have never done so before and it is my understanding that this is a requirement for Kaoscinates CM7 gingerbread to work).
For the purpose of making this useful for other users on the forums. If someone could include the steps (or links) to a compatible vodoo kernel in addition to the steps (or links) to a compatible radio as well that would be appreciated. After that a step by step direction to get the Kaoscinates cm7 on there. Alternatively if someone just wants to post a quick guide on how to go to this from stock that is fine as I can easily take my phone back to stock and work from there.
The main reasons behind my request is my relative inexperience with vodoo kernels. I apologize if there is already a rightup for this. I attempted a quick search but wasnt able to find anything and the Kaoscinate post is 250 some pages long now so its relatively difficult to find useful information without spending too much time. If anyone needs anymore information from me to assist feel free to im me or post here.
Flash the voodoo version of CWM via Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046905
Boot to cwm, flash a CM7 kernel like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045831
Flash the CM7 ROM. That parts the same as any other ROM (wipe wipe wipe, choose zip, etc). Boot, and you should hear the lady's voice telling you it's in the process of converting to voodoo. Wait it out, then you're in CM7.
Should work okay on the radio you already have.

Dude there are like 4 stickies in the top of this forum for this. I have no idea what custom rom you could be using unless you are still on superclean or something because all the roms out right now include a voodoo kernel.

So you're supposed to wipe everything before and after you install the kernel? Wouldn't wiping after installing the kernel get rid of the kernel?

Hey Guys,
I'm very glad XDA exists to help us take charge and modify our gadgets!
Here is my Dilemma and I hope there is a solution.
Specs: Rogers 2.2.1
2.6.32.9 - perf
14896
I managed to root the phone and I have Superuser working. Phone is unlocked via an eBay code. I own the ROM Manager Premium app.
I read the forums, I read the famous PDF however Im unsure and worried. I just installed MRF even tho I have fastboot installed as well, the .img file and the Pkg file renamed as Update on my SD card.
Please advise me what is the next logical step? Ideally I wish to use ROM Manager and install streakdroid 1.90 given the reviews.
Your help will be very much appreciated.
Alex
Please help anyone

The info you need is already out there. You need to search/research more.
Some starters:
ROM Manager does not work well with the Streak judging from other posts on the subject. No personal experience here, just based on what I have read.
Radimus’s Universal Guide to Flashing a ROM
Dell Streak – The Complete Guide – thread at XDA that includes a somewhat dated (was written when the Streak was running Android 1.6) PDF with Streak hacking basics. Read the thread for follow-up!
and try the links in my signature.
Thanks for the feedback Marvin I will look into it more carefully! I think its just me at this point waiting to make the next step. I remember reading some of your links before, I willread the very carefully!
Can I just load a Rom from my sd card without recovery first? That is the question.

You have to have a recovery on the phone that matches the ROM if you are installing from recovery. If the rom you want to install is in the upgrade path for your phone you can DL it to your phone over wifi, tap on the DL notice and it will install that way. Stock roms (.pkg files) need a stock recovery, install custom roms (.zip) with StreakMod Recovery
You can use fastboot to flash pieces of the OS (baseband, etc) but the best way if you want a particular baseband is to install the entire stock rom with that baseband and then install whatever custom rom on top of that.
As always, make backups and you are responsible for what happens to your phone.
Thank you very much for your help! I'm confident I will be successful now!

Verizon Samsung Fascinate. Running android 2.3.5 and my kernel version is 2.6.35.7
I am rooted and have rom manager installed. however, from my research, rom manager doesnt play well with the fascinate. instead i will use odin to push cwm recovery to my fascinate, and from here install cyanogen 7.1 right? i am a noob and new to this so please go easy on me. can anyone direct me to an easy guide for doing this? i just dont wanna do something out of order and brick my phone.
Thanks in advance
Droidstyle's guide to the Fascinate:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
(You want section 3)
My own, simplified guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517244
(You'll have to grab files from droidstyle's guide, section 3)
I'd be careful around the Fascinate subforums, by the way. They're a bit short-tempered over there.
That's Usefull Thanks
Suggestion : Follow droidstyles guide and install an ICS rom. I recommend AOKP build 33.
Us? Short tempered? YOU GTFO!!!!
We are cool here we just get a little testy when people cant read or post in the right forum. You seem to be doing quite well so far though

I want to install this ROM to my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562608
and this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252871
I recently had gotten my phone stuck at the SAMSUNG logo because of a voodoo issue, but have since resolved it.
What I did was:
1. Flash over a stock DI01 image over ODIN which put me on 2.1
2. Using the guide on the cyanogenmod wiki, flash CWM over Heimdall
3. Wiped Data and Cache and then attempted to flash the ROM through CWM
But a little bit in the phone reboots and gets stuck at the SAMSUNG logo again so I had to restore to stock, again.
So now I am at stock 2.1 I haven't been in the android scene for a long time and I forget a lot about flashing ROM's. Could someone please point out the proper way to do this?

Thanks, i'll give that a try.
In case you were wondering, what you were doing wrong was that you tried to go directly from Gingerbread to ICS without flashing THS build 1 first. Also, that kernel is for GB, not ICS.
