Verizon Samsung Fascinate. Running android 2.3.5 and my kernel version is 2.6.35.7
I am rooted and have rom manager installed. however, from my research, rom manager doesnt play well with the fascinate. instead i will use odin to push cwm recovery to my fascinate, and from here install cyanogen 7.1 right? i am a noob and new to this so please go easy on me. can anyone direct me to an easy guide for doing this? i just dont wanna do something out of order and brick my phone.
Thanks in advance
Droidstyle's guide to the Fascinate:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
(You want section 3)
My own, simplified guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517244
(You'll have to grab files from droidstyle's guide, section 3)
I'd be careful around the Fascinate subforums, by the way. They're a bit short-tempered over there.
That's Usefull Thanks
Suggestion : Follow droidstyles guide and install an ICS rom. I recommend AOKP build 33.
Us? Short tempered? YOU GTFO!!!!
We are cool here we just get a little testy when people cant read or post in the right forum. You seem to be doing quite well so far though

Hello guys...i need some help flashing CM-7...i'm running stock froyo KB1 and i don't know how to start...thanx
First, you need to read the directions in the CM7 development thread.
If you're having problems following those directions, then you probably shouldn't be trying out this rom because if you don't know your way around your phone, you're screwed if you need to start over.
This isn't your normal rom installation.

This in addition to the guide maybe?
Go ahead and root, then follow the guide, using the video as a reference as there is a part different (MUCH easier for us)
I just flashed it.
I've been following the progress on Kaoscinate's cm7 gingerbread post. I was wondering if anyone would be helpful enough to post a step by step direction to get it on a fascinate. My phone is rooted, running a custom rom and kernel, however I am not running a vodoo build (have never done so before and it is my understanding that this is a requirement for Kaoscinates CM7 gingerbread to work).
For the purpose of making this useful for other users on the forums. If someone could include the steps (or links) to a compatible vodoo kernel in addition to the steps (or links) to a compatible radio as well that would be appreciated. After that a step by step direction to get the Kaoscinates cm7 on there. Alternatively if someone just wants to post a quick guide on how to go to this from stock that is fine as I can easily take my phone back to stock and work from there.
The main reasons behind my request is my relative inexperience with vodoo kernels. I apologize if there is already a rightup for this. I attempted a quick search but wasnt able to find anything and the Kaoscinate post is 250 some pages long now so its relatively difficult to find useful information without spending too much time. If anyone needs anymore information from me to assist feel free to im me or post here.
Flash the voodoo version of CWM via Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046905
Boot to cwm, flash a CM7 kernel like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045831
Flash the CM7 ROM. That parts the same as any other ROM (wipe wipe wipe, choose zip, etc). Boot, and you should hear the lady's voice telling you it's in the process of converting to voodoo. Wait it out, then you're in CM7.
Should work okay on the radio you already have.

Dude there are like 4 stickies in the top of this forum for this. I have no idea what custom rom you could be using unless you are still on superclean or something because all the roms out right now include a voodoo kernel.

So you're supposed to wipe everything before and after you install the kernel? Wouldn't wiping after installing the kernel get rid of the kernel?

Im new to this rooting stuff and ive been trying to figure out how to do it by myself for weeks.
Can i root my fascinate if its version 2.3.5 and how??
Whats the purpose of rooting and what can i do after i do it?
The main reason why im attempting to root is to run a app called gameboid, is rooting the only way i can do it?
Thanks

skip that section and follow section 4...
I was able to follow everything perfectly. Thanks for the help
If your wanting to put 4.0.3 then don't root your 2.3.5 because that would be wasted steps...there is a better way to do it.
Use Odin to flash a clockwork mod recovery, then put the ics zip on your ad card, then boot into the recovery and install the zip. Once installed the ROM will already come pre rooted

already adressed that issue thanks
You don't need to be rooted to run emulators like gameboid.
However, since you're already looking into ICS, I'd recommend flashing it cause it's awesome.
Do we need a specific (blue) cwm or can i use red recovery for ics?

You need cwm4 fixed for cm7. That cwm you mentioned won't work. Check droidstyle's guide in general fascinate forum. It will have all the info you need.
I don't understand ANYTHING about androids but i followed a video tutorial on how to root it and it worked. So now, i have a 4.0.1 yajuux build Gnex (gsm) that is rooted and i got ClockWork Recovery on it with rom manager. I want to get the Apex 1.0.2 Rom on my phone except it says i need a XXKK6 radio. How do i flash that radio? also, I want the franco kernel on it after so how would i flash that? Please explain it like you would explain to a 10 year old so that I fully understand the process.

It would help if you say what phone you have
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
Buy a phone in the XDA phone list, check its forum sections (General, Q&A and Development) for some kind of sticky guides, follow the guides.

First you need to go to the section for your phone. Start by read the stickies and any pertinent information on radios, kernels, and ROMs. Then find the rom, kernel, or radio you want and read it. Start with the OP and then keep reading. Whatever questions you may have will probably have already been answered. If not, then is the time to ask questions in the appropriate Q& A thread. Good luck and enjoy your phone!
Absolution 3.7/Redemption ICS A2b1
This is the best thing to do if you really want to "learn" about android phones, I read almost every thread for my phone for about 3 months before I even rooted my phone. By that time I could root my phone successfully and fix any problems myself along the way.

Hello all. I am trying to get jellybean on someones vibrant. Its on froyo and its already rooted. What would be the best way to do this? Do I need a different bootloader? or can I just get clockwork and flash? What is the best way to get clockwork? any help would be very much appreciated. thank you.
I guess from what I've been reading, GB bootloaders are optional. If you decide to go ahead and flash it then follow the guide and you'll be fine. It takes around 10 seconds to flash.
Look in this section for the update.zip file. It will put Clockwork Mod Recovery on your Vibrant. It should be located in Woodrubes Repository, (look for it in the stickies).
Find a JB ROM you want to try. I have used Helly Bean and Paranoid Android. I like them both. PA has a lot more options if you're into that kind of thing.
Each ROM has its own set of instructions, so read them. Don't take this the wrong way, but the fact that you created this thread tells me you haven't done your research. So, before you go and brick your device, do some reading up. There are really great guides and other reading material in the stickies and all over really.
As always, if you need help... hit us up. We're always around.
You were just sliced bread before you were burnt by the toaster.
One more thing, go back to stock 2.1 using Odin, then root, get cwm recovery, then flash a new ROM.
No tickee, no laundry!
cm7
When the jb Roms first started to release most of them suggested to flash cm7 first to setup the system for install of jb Rom
