X10 Unable to start Wifi - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All!
So, Im having problems starting my wifi
Device: x10a
Baseband: tried a bunch, 52, 54, 55, 58, all of them with different results.
Firmware: Wolfbreak CM 6.1.3, TripnMIUI 1.0.0, Official 2.1
Behavior:
Upon starting WiFi, I get a "Unable to start wi-fi" message.
Bluetooth works
Things I've tried:
Set wifi sleep policy to Never
Installed BladeWifiFix
Tried Static IP settings
Installed Wifi Manager app
Deleted /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Sometimes I can get wifi to enable, scan and associate, but the connection stalls after a while I am still connected but no traffic moves.
MAC Address always says "Unavailable"
Upon firing up logcat, here is what I see when I try to enable wifi:
Code:

I've searched like crazy for a solution, any tips are appreciated, please tell me how can I look at what is working when the wifi is ok, so I can try to work my way to have that config permanently.
Unfortunately, returning the phone is not a viable option
Update:
After leaving the phone charging overnight after flashing 2.1.A.0.435 via flashtool, wifi just works again, I had to reflash baseband 54 before flash tool could recognize my phone.
Phone Companion forced me to update and the repair option started working... only to say "there is no software available for your phone" after that, I couldnt get flashtool to flash firmware directly, I had to flash bb 54 package first, then firmware, not sure if this has something to do with the new "detection of rooted phones" changelog at EMMA.
Anyway, I'll track this issue and post here any info I found, in the meantime, im not that good of an android power user, where are the kernel modules located? Can I take a look at there and preserve that stuff before moving on to some custom rom, then plug them back in ala insmod (I have some linux background).

Does your phone work with other networks? Do other devices (not computers) work with your network? Wireless-N routers are known to have dodgy issues when shharing connection. Hav you tried resetting your password? Hav you checked ISP l's modem settings so that it allows devoces other than computers to access the network?
Good luck. I've been asking peeps with the same issues the same questions.

Hi!
Yep, I've covered those basics, intentionally left them out.
I have a linksys AP 802.11G its as high as it goes, its hooked up to a cablemodem, sharing wifi with 3 laptops, 1 HTC Magic and 1 PSP, all the devices work perfectly. I just spent some time yesterday evening toying with settings (I have some Cisco training.... )
I have managed to get wifi working but its rather unstable, I get the "unable to start Wi-fi" randomly (works in the morning, broken on afternoon, no reboot!). I've settled on a slightly customized SEMC 2.1 firmware, Im waiting for devs to get a new wifi stack done to test drive it on my phone.
Seems like poking around on wifi sleep policy and manual IP configuration has something to do here, maybe wpa_supplicant is messing up something ?
It is odd as its the driver the one who crashes and burns badly
Thanks for the reply!

Hmm, lots of people including myself have issues with the x10's connection.
My x10 disconnects when left idle. That was since the freex10 rom update...
Hopefully you can sort this out, or we'll all have to survive in the 2.3 gingerbread update.

I've found more info about the wifi interface, see the attached dmesg file, here are some interesting entries:

[Q] Wifi only work with 318

Hi,
I have a HK version Streak 5, wanna to upgrade it to stock 360.
The upgrade process is successful, but the wifi shows "error" after boot.
Then I revert it to stock 318, the wifi works again.
Here is one part of the bootlog with 360

I guess that is reason, but I don get how to overcome it.

I have two question
1. Should I upgrade other mbns with stock 360 ?? (I already flash dps1 & amss)
2. How to disable the auto upgrade system check ?? (At least I don want the upgrade information if I need to use it with stock 318)
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

aria Wifi won't turn on Howto define whether it is hardware or software

My aria Wifi stopped working with the original HTC rom,
not aware of having done anything to cause this.
Bluetooth and FM radio are still working so the BCM4329 chip is probably OK?
To get closer to the problem I
unlocked the bootloader: using HTC's unlock mechanism
rooted the device: using Unrevoked on Ubuntu
installed ClockworkMod
to backup the HTC rom
install cm-7.2.0-liberty.zip
Using Terminal Emulator or adb I see
netcfg => shows no eth0 nor wlan0
#> ./adb.sh
List of devices attached
HT0A1RJ01423 device
# service check wifi
Service wifi: found
# service check network_management
Service network_management: found
# svc wifi enable
gives the error "E/WifiService( 173): Failed to load Wi-Fi driver."
I also tried the app FXR Wi-Fi fix and rescue
which hangs "Connecting to supplicant

What does the CRC error imply?
So I am looking for some advice on a way to prove whether the hardware is alive.
Is there a command like "lshw" that I could run to see the network device?
Thanks!

EN: From my dmesg we see that touch screen has problems. Is there someone who can help what to do? maybe edit tryed ROMs will help.

unknown clone RK3188 firmware selection
Please help me decide which firmware should I flash to clone that matches V88HD i guess.
The tablet has only two buttons, BACK and POWER. I already rooted and install CWM recovery following instruction in the head post.
CWM recovery is working great with gestures. I haven't seen that before.
Now I'm selecting ROM to FLASH for the first time on this device and a little nervous about it.
I need to change ROM, because of huge instability of WLAN. I hope it is ROM issue.
Tablet is sold in Bulgaria under with manufacturer AKKRON. Model is called qr10a16bt

I have installed the kitkat v2.4, and Antutu scores are lower than stock, and system sometimes freezes.
Many thanks in advance.

Odys Ieos Quad
BT and Wifi still broken for the Ieos Quad?
Any way to fix that?
Does anyone know if Oma rom works for other Rockchip 3188 devices besides Chuwi v88? I have a fnf iFive x2 tablet with the same Rockchip chipset and quad core and want to install the "multi window edition" on it. If so, which version should I use? Thank you in advance for any help here!

It happened to me too. You forgot to choose your tablet kernel instead oma's kernel. Download it from kernel archive and try again. @Oma7144 I installed your OmniRom 1.4.1 in my pipo s1pro and it works very well, but i have some problems.
Rotation is not working, is there any fix?
HDMI is working only when i touch the screen and not at 1080p. If i play a movie i get a green screen.
Camera is rotated 90 degrees, but working.
I hope you can help me. Do you need a log? Thanks a lot.

Rotation started to work, but its 90º turned to the right
Frontal camera is ok, but rear camera is 180º rotated
USB OTG is working too.
I hope you can help me. Thanks a lot.

Allwinner Tablet, weird Wlan problem with "ported" ROM

Ok, I got an obscure Allwinner A31S based tablet by a company called "Tristan Auran" with model name Planet 3 from ebay for a few bucks. It's fairly nice for the price, and like with all the devices I get, I went about rooting and tuning it. While attempting to install a custom recovery, the recovery must have damaged something and the tablet refused to boot after starting it once.
I had a dump of the important partitions, but I couldn't read them back anymore and no matter how often I tried making a PhoenixSuite flashable image, they tablet would always lock up on the boot logo. Noone online seems to have a working stock rom, and the manufacturer didn't reply to my requests.
Seeing it as a lost cause, I downloaded firmware randomly of tablets that had the same or similar hardware configurations. I ended up finding one that actually booted fairly flawlessly and got most of everything working by editing the Allwinner SystemConfig and Build.prop to the right values. Touch, sound, graphics, all seems to work without major bugs.
The only thing that eludes me is Wlan at the moment. No matter what I tried it will not work on its own.
Interestingly, Wlan starts working when I boot with a plugged in USB Wlan stick. Not too surprising, but the onboard Wlan chip ALSO starts working when I unplug the USB Stick and insmod the proper driver quickly (the USB stick uses an RTL8188 chip, and the onboard chip is a RTL8723AS combined wlan/bluetooth chip).
Reading the logs has been a bit enigmatic to me, and all I could glean is that for some reason the drivers unload when the USB stick is NOT plugged in, but not why or how I could fix that.
When I boot without plugged in USB stick, the onboard wlan is not appearing on an lsusb printout, if I boot with it plugged in they BOTH appear with their proper IDs.
Any help is appreciated, and if you happen to have the same tablet I'll upload the image somwhere.
Here is a dmesg printout of the section with the 8188 driver loading with the USB stick NOT plugged in for starters.
I'm sure that there is some other weirdness in there, but everything else seems to work well, so I wouldn't worry too much about anything unrelated to wlan or USB.

This happens after I disconnect the USB stick and insmod the 8723au.ko driver. (Although I'm confused by the mess of chip model names. Might not actually be the 8723au driver that talks to the onboard chip. as I said, can't make a sese of it.)
