[Q] Custom Kernals - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i'm running Das Bamf 1.4 ROM with Adrynalyne's 4.3a kernal ADW launcher blah blah blah.
Problem is I've read through the comments for the kernals and the rom and it seems like everyone is getting greatly improved battery life. But with me I can only get maybe 5-8 hours with light/moderate use. In the past 5 min I've dropped 2% just looking through the checking the time and changing some settings.
I did a full wipe when I flashed them.. and since i'm running 4.3a (stock speed) i'm not using setcpu or anything. Am i missing something?

Are you using SetCPU? If so, what are the configurations for it?

No I'm not running Setcpu. I'm not trying to OC and the kernal i'm using is designed for stock speeds.

ok so turned off my 4g radio... and now i'm getting a lot better battery life. i feel like i was getting better battery life with my stock kernal (when i have my 4g on). but with 3g only my batter is outstanding so far.

You can still use setCPU without overclocking. I'm using an oc/uv kernel but I set my max speed to 1ghz. I set up profiles to decrease the max speed as my battery decreases. I also use a profile that sets my max speed at 348 when the screen is off. I get anywhere from 16 to 24 hours battery life on 3g depending on my usage.

Overlocking with smartass

Hei guys, I'm really, really new to this.
I've just flash andy's port of CM7 based on 2.3.4. I'm having a really though time with the battery, it goes down 50% faster than on my previous 2.2.2 official Froyo from LG.
Anyway, this question is about overclocking.
So, inside CM7 settings there's this "Performance" menu, in which you can go to "CPU", I've set there smartass governor, minimum 122 and maximum 768.
What does that mean? Does that mean I'm overclocking my CPU? Does it mean that smartass will allow or push the CPU to 768 when it's needed? Do I need to do something else in order to achieve that? (i.e - use get the CPU at 122 while screen off and increase it according to demand up to 768). - that's what I'm after.
Any response on the topic(s) much appreciated.
Thanks.
Regarding battery - calibrate it with the app from the market
Regarding OC - yes, when you'll use the phone your cpu will run at 768 mhz (note that you might get kernel panics). Your minimum speed is pretty low and it will take a little longer to get to 768... you will see some skips or lags.
Oh, and yes! You're overclocking and smartass will do what you're looking for (idle-122/in-use-768).

I would kick the min up to 480. That usually gives you a good balance.

Thanks for the fast response.
As for the battery, I tried calibrating it and still the same.
I'm reporting 10% (exactly) each 2 hours, in idle, screen off, everything turned off except mobile data on EDGE.
At this rate, the phone goes dry in exactly 20 hours with minimal to no use. This isn't normal.
It heats up when charging (more than usual).
In battery stats I have all the four ones (android system, cell, etc.) at 25%.
No apps installed.
Just a few hours ago I tried replacing the stock kernel of andy's with the latest from franco (16) and zram.
Exactly the same.
I don't know what else to do, I already reflashed it twice. Same results. I can't post to the development forum just yet (not enough posts).
I guess I'll just go ahead and try mik's port... although I wouldn't want to, I love this one, everything works perfectly except the battery thing.
Did you use google maps?
"Known bugs
[...]
- Google Maps is eating your battery, kill this app after using in Setting->applications
[...]"
i think smartass does automatically change your cpu's frequency when you need it..but your minimum frequency is too low..change it to 320 Mhz....and are you using 3g all time..??
Yes, used google maps but killed it. Second reflash didn't even install it and still the same problem.
No, I didn't use 3g at all.
I only kept mobile data active on EDGE. and as I said, it was in idle. it's like the phone was used 24/7 even in idle.
and why is my cpu to low? the phone works like a charm with that frequency.
Check the 2 g networks only box in settings-networks- mobile networks....that may be the reason
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
It's checked alright. Like I said, I used it on the EDGE (2G) networks.
Anyway this doesn't matter anymore since I've switched to mik's rom.
you can give void# forever a try too...gives me two days battery life on moderate use...
Okay, I will.

[Q] Better battery life - SetCPU, Rom, Kernel on LG Optimus One P500

Hi guys!
What can I do to get better battery life?
I'm now using devoid #froyo-final, franko kernet 19.4 and SetCPU (480-691 smartass, screen-off: 320-320 smartass). What am I doing wrong?
What are the best profiles for SetCPU? What do you guys use for "screen off"?
What is the best ROM + kernel to use.
I used mik's CM port, but it drains battery kinda fast.
I don't want to have a battery that lasts one week, I just want 48 hours with moderate using.
How can I do this?
Thanks!
Use 480/729 MHz and 480/480 use with the screen off with the kernel minmax 19.4 franco

Dont use screen off profile,it causes wakelocks and reduces battery when idle.

Firstly, when you're using smartass, there is no need to set a sleep profile. Smartass, by default, sleeps at a lower frequency than the max frequency. Just set min and max freq and leave it as is. No profiles needed. The profiler app itself may consume resources scanning for CPU usage.
If you want best battery life, go for Mik's 6.5.7 with the latest franco's kernel/fserve's version of franco's kernel. Do a clean install, clear your battery stats, etc (I assume that you know the drill). Manage your apps and the auto-syncing feature properly and you'll have good battery life for sure. And, pls give some time for the ROM and kernel to get accustomed to your phone. You'll get good battery life gradually.
Good luck
yes do what gkarthik16 said you can also use v6supercharger script
don't use setcpu use cm7 inbuilt feature with smartass governor(I am using smartassv2 governor because I am on mik's 6.6.1)
from settings >application>running services>stop the app or uninstall the app you don't need
also charge when battery is below 20%
Just set it at [email protected] smoothassV2,no need for profiles

What is 'moderate usage' to you, and how long does your battery usually last?
Cm has a bug which causes wakelocks at.first. gets better in awhile

Try AGA-ROM with setcpu 480/729 smartass. You will need new baseband. Here is how to flash new baseband > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530

Tried it. It sucks.
48 hrs with moderate usage wont be easy. if you play games too forget it in any rom. im on cm7 6.6.1 with franco kernel and i'd be lucky to get more then 24 hrs but i do play lots of games and browsing and wifi on for 18 hrs a day . i found that using automation software like tasker or green power to toggle data or wifi gives a great boost to battery though.

[Q] What is the best kernel and/or tricks for battery life and performance?

Hey I am thinking about using the htcdev unlock on my 3D
What would yall say is the best kernel for performance and battery life?
also is there any scripts I could run or any tweaks I could do to get great battery life?
I know on my Evo 4g i ran the supercharger script and the vipermod script but im not sure if those would still work effectively on the 3D...
Any kernel with underclocking will do the trick. I am running Deck's Sense ROM and Ziggy kernel. It supports 1.8 ghz over clock. I use that and the phone is super smooth. Even with setCPU set to lag free, I get 12-18 moderate use. With setCPU on powersave (384mhz) there phone is just a bit laggy, buy I have gotten over 3.5 days of battery life with minimal usage.

That's impressive. I'm on Olympus and can go all day as long as I have good service or connected to wifi. Some people are getting pretty great numbers out of it, but I'm sure it depends on underclocking of course

smartass vs ondemand?

What do you guys think is better smartassv2 or ondemand? I usually use smartassv2 but im not sure with the rezound.
I'm using ondemand and its been perfect for me. no rebooted and great battery life.
I flashed incredikernel 6 the day it was released weeks ago.
I use on-demand, I have not had a single reboot/bootloop etc yet & the battery life is super.
I use on demand with the stock Kernel (using cleanrom 3.5). I drop the cpu down to about 1.ghz and set a profile for on demand between 192 and 760 something when the screen is off. I only dropped about 3 percent a few nights ago while sleeping (6.5 hours roughly). (the phone doesn't go into sleep mode and I dont have a battery saver). I don't get that with my heavy usage, but that is a big plus.
Where do you guys get the download for ondemand? Back in the day when I had the OG Droid, everyone used SetCPU. Doesn't seem to be the app of choice any more to set frequencies. I can't find ondemand (or smartass for that matter) in the market. ANy suggestions?
I had been using ondemand up until a few days ago. The last couple days I have been using interactive, and it seems like both battery life and performance are somewhat better, although I have no hard numbers to support this, and I have really random usage.

They're features on the kernel. When you install the kernel you'll be able to check which one you wanna use from the app. (SetCPU may be good, but it seems the apps of choice on the Rezound are AnTuTu or Systems Tuner Pro, I use AnTuTU.)
Or if you use incredikernel the app incredicontrol goes along with it perfectly and is 100% totally stable for me. I have tried every kernel there is both GB and ICS on my phone and incredikernel and the stock kernel are the only ones that will run stability test scaling stability test all night long without bootlooping.

Thank you so much for the reply. I am just sticking with the stock Kernal for now, but I was interested in undervolting the kernal while it's in sleep mode and while charging to see if I can save battery life. I just tried SetCPU, but was not pleased with the constant SU pop ups. It was keeping my screen awake. I think I'll five AnTuTu a shot.
If I ever load a custom kernal, I'll know what to keep an eye out for.
I have completely given up on undervolting at this point, I never once saw a noticeable increase in battery life but I definitely ended up with a less stable phone.........

What we need are more custom kernels.
I have undervolted (Incredikernel with Incredicontrol) and it's quite stable and the battery life is pretty good. I can get 12 - 16 hours with the stock battery with medium usage (texting, browsing).
Interstingly, it was 10 - 12 with OnDemand. Interactive seems to be better.

Have you ever tried leaving all the settings exactly the same and NOT undervolting??
I would be willing to bet the battery life would be almost identical.
CPU Tuner is awesome also. Might be the best.

Actually, yes. It did make a difference. Not as significant as on the Incredible, although that may be a difference in HAVS vs SVS.
But what works for one may not work for all.

I'm pretty content with Inredikernel. I'm sure Chad is going to hit us with something awesome soon.

Skyraider battery issues

Since I got this phone in may last year, I haven't had horrible battery life, but it wasn't good either.
So, I rooted my phone and put off getting a ROM until I started having the dreaded reboot issue. I was on stock froyo of all things.
Now, I'm on skyraider. But my battery life is worse...much worse. I'm having trouble understanding why. I have less programs running in the background than ever. I think this thing underclocks too, right? In the skyraider settings it has a min and max setting. The max is 1ghz and the min is like 300 ish mhz.
The only other thing I can think to mention is my radio. I was apparantly on a radio that works with both froyo and gingerbread. I was consufed by how I flashed a GB rom from froyo and I still had a connection and all that. But anyway, perhaps this radio is inefficent?
Maybe there's some other idiot check thing I've missed. I always turn off features that I'm not using like gps and the like. I also use minimal brightness and don't run any live wallpapers. I'm using stock wall papers and skins.
I have not yet done a battery calibration. I plan to when I get some time...but does it *really* make a difference of hours to my battery's lifespan?
Man, I need a rezound battery...
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt
Do the calibration. Sometimes you have o do it between Rom flashes but its worth it.

Lessen the number and frequency of apps that update (sync) in the background: email, fb, weather, etc. And, trying using the wifi when stationery, lower screen brightness.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Skyraider is very stock-like, no performance kernel included (uses stock HTC), etc, etc so it should get equal battery life as stock does. The benefit of SR is the "LTE Auto On/Off" option it has. That can make a HUGE difference ! Be sure to enable it - it's not enabled by default.
Try the IMO 5.1 kernel
