Would you ever trade your Vibrant for a Nexus One? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pretty simple question. What are the benefits of trading/not trading?

I have both, and while the Nexus is amazing... it's getting old and I believe the Vibrant offers benefits the N1 can't produce... then again, it has a stable CM7, so if that's all you care about.... Lack of memory and a small less glamerous screen would prevent me from doing it though.
I do love the way it feels in my hand, better build quality... will give it that.

I've also owned both. Pretty much agree with the post above.
The screen is a bit small. On the other hand, the N1's overall size, shape, and quality give it a great feel.
N1 has more variety ROM wise. Sense is infinitely better than TouchWiz IMO...although it doesn't natively use it, there are some great Sense ROMs.
Vibrant definitely has a beefier GPU, on the other hand. Feels a bit snappier to me in general. Neither feels extremely snappy in stock, out of box condition though.
Lastly, this is an admittedly dumb reason to prefer a phone, but I like the unique nature of the N1. I live in a fairly backwards state...I've only seen one other Nexus One since it's been released. Nice to stand out in a sea of iPhone zombies.

No doubt it has newer tech, but there isn't that great a difference. I definitely wouldn't say "hell no." In fact, I'm probably switching back to an N1 as my main phone (assuming the trade goes through). Pretty sure the N1 has the same internals as WP7 phones that were released several months ago? It's old tech for sure, but it's obviously fast enough to keep up in most cases.
If you're into games, though, I'd suggest staying with the Vibrant. It's a bit faster and doesn't have the multitouch limitations.
Otherwise, I like the ROM diversity, build quality, and uniqueness of the N1. Just my opinion though.

There's no way I'd go for that trade! I wouldn't even trade for the nexus S. No sd card slot big no no!

Part of me has been thinking of making this trade as well. When i really take a look at my phone I realize the one thing I REALLY like about it is flashing new roms. MIUI and CM7 are amazing, I just wish they were stable, which they are on the Nexus.
I guess you could consider it going back a generation, but it's not like the Vibrant has an 8 MP camera, a FFC, or HSPA+. If it did, then this would be a much less palatable trade.

Meh. I wouldn't trade my main phone for an HD2. It's a beautiful phone, but Android isn't 100%. There are some awesome ROMs, but if you need guaranteed stability, I wouldn't suggest it. (Then again, I wouldn't suggest using stock 2.2 on the Vibrant either...)
Just spent way too much time flashing ROMs, and never could settle on one. Really more of a tinkerer/project phone IMO.

For me, No. But I might pick up a N1 as a third phone behind my vibrant and hd2. I seen a few on craigslist in my area for less then 80 bucks used but in great condition.

Hell ya.. I.e. if gives me a battery life of around 10 hours on moderate use. Vibrant gives me like 5~6 hours of battery on bionix 1.3.1

even though the gps on vibrant is not that great, but the phone is still pretty awesome when running 2.2.1

im trying to see if I should wait for the Galaxy S2, GX2, or htc Sensation too.
Sensation and Galaxy S2 both have more Ram the the LG, but the LG is out now...
All 3 use are different duel core processor.
I definitely dont think you should go for the mytouch 4 with the LG out now and others on the way.
trying to decide which of the 3 duel core phones to go for myself.
if you are looking for a phone now, its the LG hands down. If you are willing to wait, then you are in the same boat as me. not sure between the LG, HTC, or Sammy
Ya, the htc is supposed to be out in June or July. But my son's mytouch slide is having issues. So I'm considering upgrading and giving him my phone.

Switch from the vibrant I'm on the g2x nd lovin it by far the fastest phone I have ever owned. I've owned a lot I'm a phone whore... I'm still going to get the galaxy s 2 when it comes out phones are like pokemon gotta catch em all

If you can wait ............wait for the S2 the hardware is something to wait for. Over the next 10-15 months all the phones will go through a huge change. All the new phones hardware will have the capacity to run windows 7 (not that they will) but think about it ....the phone I have now has the same power as my windows 2000 computer 7 years ago............ amazing time.........
The vibrant has too much going for it to pay for an upgrade now. Especially in my mind the uncertainty of the AT&T takeover, or as i call it, when we all get screwed.
The g2x is amazing. I want one. But I also know my phone is dang good and only better phones are going to roll out... More GHz and more dual cores.
The next phone with a perfect 4"screen, 1.3+ GHz dual core on a good/cheap network may change my opinion... In the future.
S2 for sure. There is nothing to discuss, and nothing to think about. That is just the way to do it. Period.
S2 has a answered my prayers. I have been waiting for a freakin 4.3 SAMOLED phone to come out. Sammy only had the 4" galaxy S - Vibrant last year with talks of "dual core."
I'm glad that they didn't rush it either- because that would have been a huge liability waiting to happen.
Instead, they listened to our gripes.
1. 32gb memory- on bigger model
2. FFC - badass
3. FLASH!!!!
4. 8mp camera
5. 4.3" Capacitive Touch
6. Super Amoled!!!!!!!!
7. Gorilla glass?
8. External SD support up to 32gb
9. 4g !!!!!
10. GingerBread official.
11. Mod edit: to much info mate...keep it to yourself.
Seriously, it blows anything out of the water that is out there and will be out there in the near future.
Plus, Tmobile is getting is.
I'm going to buy 10 of these just in case zombies attack, then I'll just sit back and relax.
Anyway, /shameless Plug.
you get the picture.
GL with your decision.
A better way to go about this is, do you plan on rooting your new phone and installing custom ROMs? If you you do intend to do that, then i think Samsung has proven they could careless about you or the dev community so long as you buy there product.
We all know HTC shares there source code and there is a herd of diehard HTC fans who will mod the crap out of the Sensation.
I just picked up the G2x yesterday after i seen that LG has already released source code for not only the OS but kernel source code as well, and with cyanogen himself doing the CM7 port to the G2x, it will and should be community supported greatly as well
A thing that sold me on the G2x is that it supports AT&T 3G bands, so if its still my main phone if the merger goes down, it'll be a fully compatible device and i wont need to buy a new one to take advantage of AT&Ts extended coverage
So in the end it really just boils down to:
How long can you wait?
Do you intend to mod your phone?
Galaxy S2 hands down.
It will have a lot of ROMS for it since it has an unlocked Bootloader just like the Vibrant. The HTC Sensation does NOT. It also has lots of memory internal, and a 4.3 Super Amoled PLUS. Everything else you can compare to the HTC Sensation of G2X as all 3 have relatively similar "rest of the phone".
I'm on a g2x lets hope that the galaxy 2 does not have the normal sammy problems like on the vibrant I have a bitter taste for them now

as you can see from the second post in this thread, I too am trying to decide between gx2, gs2, sensation...
i see tons of people saying the samsung gs2 will be the best thing ever. So yes, Sammy does have awesome hardware (look at our vibrants). But, will it be cheap plastic? and who cares how great the hardware is if the Software sucks balls? (like our vibrants). Yes, our developers are awesome, but they are having to run circles around Sammy's terrible software writing...
I am not saying this is the case with the gs2, as im thinking about it too, just wondering these things...?
Thank you guys so much for your responses. It was exactly what I was looking for, different opinions. I needed to get a phone because two of the phones on my plan were injured. My son chose the "sidekick" not a bad phone, but I tried to talk him out of it. But whatever, it was cheaper.(good for me). I chose the G2x. And I gotta say, WOW! And for those wondering, the screen is just as good. Colors even seem a bit deeper. Quadrants (whatever) but 2200 out the box. The 4g is way better than my 3g. You tube on HD without a stutter. Couldnt pull that off before.
1080 vid recording (I was told) not tested yet.
Fast fast fast processor.
FFC (untested yet)
8mp camera with flash.
Feels much more solid and better made than Vibrant.
Stock against stock. Hands down its better. Guess I will have to wait on dev community for customization results. Maybe I will try to figure out how and root it tonight to remove some bloat.
I will miss my Vibrant (but my sis in law will be happy).
Oh! And I heard today the merge with ATT may not happen. Yay!

Your Thoughts on the next Nexus

Hello everyone,
I currently on the 3d. I love this phone, don't get me wrong...and have no problem keeping it.
I have a financee who really wants the phone, and I agreed (because I love her) to give it to her in the next few months. I have an available upgrade.
I was thinking of getting another evo 3d, and then I thought maybe I would look at the SGS2...just because I love trying out new phones.
Anyway, it look like the next nexus will be coming out almost as soon as the SGS2.
What does everyone thing about this upcoming phone? It looks pretty great, do you really think we will get a October release date?
Again, I am not looking to be flamed, and I love this phone. Just looking for a friendly discussion.
I doubt it will be much better hardware wise than the SGS2.
The SGS3 however, is reported to get a 1280x720 Super AMOLED Plus display!

It should have a TI processor in it, so whether that is as good as the exynos (or whatever is in the galaxy s2 variants) is up to debate.
But the fact that it is pure android, along with the 720p screen should be a big advantage.
This biggest question is when it will be released on sprint.
No thoughts personally because im not interested in it. I guess if I was, I wouldn't have bought a 3D, but rather waited for it. So its irrevelent to me.
I understand that, I am just looking at having a interesting discussion on the phone.
You could always get it to try it out and if you find yourself missing your 3vo :-D you have 30 days to return it and swap it out

Does an October release look promising? If so... It would seem Samsung really missed the mark releasing their phones a month or less before the new nexus.
I know I'll be getting one... The Nexus device is the reference platform for any given generation of android. The N1 _still_ performs great. The NS4G stock experience is still the fastest and smoothest android experience I have ever had. Bar none. No competition, not even close.... And that's before overclocking and custom kernels. Not to mention it comes unlockable out of the box and already with the pure android experience... That is guaranteed to be first in line for updates.
The dual 1.5gHz and 1280×720 screen are also awesome... Likely a gig of ram, 8gig for Apps and 32gig internal storage.... Maybe even more of all of that... We still don't know for sure yet. NFC for sure.
Gonna miss HTC if they don't make it... But whatever. After seeing a NexusOne in action and owning a NexusS4G its a no Brainer now. It does what it want, out of the box and is the gold standard reference for the platform....

I agree, though I have never owned a nexus.
But do you give the October release date rumors any credit?
I think you should go for the Photon. It's just as powerful as the Evo 3D. It's gotten good ratings so far.
And rumors are rumors. There really hasn't been any stern updates about the SGS3. You seem to don't need a phone right now. If not then wait it out, something is bound to come up then.

Totally agree. The form factor of the E3D is so much better than the E4G. I also hope that Samsung doesn't go crazy with the screen size. I'm not really feeling the dimensions of the ET4G, it looks way too big, specifically- it seems far too wide. The E4G is as wide as I would ever like a phone to be and I am a big guy with big hands. A 4-4.3" screen would be perfect, in fact, if it followed the same form factor as the NS4G I would be quite pleased.
I do agree with the above poster. The radio issues with Samsung's last three phones on Sprint should be enough to make anyone skeptical. If the ET4G is without these problems then I will give the next Nexus a realistic consideration.

Hold out for a Nexus Prime... supposedly coming in October. Pure Google experience! Just hope that the latest rumors that it is supposed to be exclusive to Verizon prove false... hard to believe Google would do this, alienating all current Nexus owners & devs.
i have had the samsung galaxy s2 for about two weeks, and although it has an amazing screen and its the fastest device i have ever use - it's battery is awful.
I switched back to the atrix for now.

you switched back just because of the battery life?.. personally i HATE samsungs phones, but the nexus S was a nice looking device, never used it but yeah. sgs2 looks nice as well, idk if id trade though.
I've been waiting for the SGS2 but I will probably add it as a second line and use it as my daily driver and then turn my Atrix into more of a PMP and Hotspot.
I'm also looking to see if they do end up releasing a SGS2 variant with the keyboard that's been leaked:

The Atrix is perfect for me because of WebTop. I use it for work when I go to client's businesses, a lot more efficient that carrying a laptop. When (if?) the prime comes to AT&T, I'll use that for personal use, and switch SIMs for when I need the Atrix.

I thought about the same thing OP. Realistically the top phones out right now are the iPhone 4, Atrix, Galaxy S2, and Optimus 2x. And...the next wave of super phones that are coming out will be around October. This will include a bunch of devices that Samsung and Motorola, among others will release to compete with the iPhone 5.
My advice is keep your Atrix and make the switch once the next big transition to dual core phones happens because you'll be wasting money and it's pointless to switch for such little improvement.

ill stay with my atrix, im patiently awaiting cm7 to come out of beta and have everything work cm7 hauls ass compared to any rom right now for atrix becuase its 100% blur free
Not worth it imo. You get a bigger screen with less res, worse battery, slightly better processor (but seriously Tegra2 is more than good enough esp overclocked), superthin if thats your cup of tea.
As others have said, wait till the next generation comes out Q4. Atrix to SGS2 is incremental at best. As I hate the SGS2 form factor and really love qHD resolution of atrix, it would be going backwards IMO. The only thing about the atrix that lets me down is the little bugs with VOIP/SIP stack and bluetooth as well (e.g. if you're using BT headphones for music, notification sounds keep coming out of phone not BT).
Now if you're not game to root and flash custom ROM then the balance tilts a fair bit, stock SW wise the SGS2 is noticeably faster than the stock atrix IMO.
^ only reason this is true is because sgs2 is stock clocked at 1.2ghz, but has terrible battery life. I am oc'd at 1.3ghz with better than stock atrix battery life

Overclocked and better than stock battery life??? How does that work?

HTC Rezound over Sammy Nexus??????

I don't know, for some reason I'm feeling like the Rezound might be the best new Verizon phone. Of course this is completely dependent upon Devs hooking up the Rezound with ICS and the latest and greatest. I think they will tho. And I'm "noob" status when it comes to dev knowledge and modding, but it seems the HTC may surprise people VS sammy phone
Now I admit I don't know much about all the hardware that goes into these devices, but to me the Nexus has the advantage because, well, it's a Nexus! And that is strictly a software advantage as it will most likely get timely, BS free updates because it's Google's baby.
While I have loved my TB, I think it is because of all the GREAT developer support! Have I not rooted this device I would imagine that I would be a little more than frustrated with it by now. From the GB update tabacle to HTC saying that it will not be officially be getting Sense 3.0. Not to mention the reboot issues early in the devices career. IMO, the development for this device saved it ... IMO any way.
I will be getting the Nexus when it drops and I will be enjoying ICS goodness :-D I will have my TB waiting on the sidelines in the event something happens to my GN ...

Ooooooppps!
Yes, Devs most definitely saved this phone!
another thread about these eh?...
"if" I get a new phone, it's going to be the reZound as it's the successor to the greatest phone ever made, the Thunderbolt.
specs aside, I'm certain there's going to be a lot of support(roms/kernals/radios) just lke the Thunderbolt.
RAZR lost me with the non-removable battery(locked bootloader also, but I'm sure devs will get around that)
Nexus lost me with the 'no microSD' support & the 5MP camera(common! who doesn't use their phone to take nice pics these days anyway!?)
you could argue that Nexus will have ICS, but all 3 will in time(officially). not to mention unoffical roms that we'll all be using anyway
I must agree, Dev's really did save this phone. I'm also getting the Nexus but keeping the bolt on my desk just in case.
Coming from having the OG Droid for almost two years to the DInc. (only had the Inc. for two weeks) to the Thunderbolt. I will miss Sense, I am a fan, but I think ICS will be a nice change.
I am getting one or the other, will wait to play with in person. I am guessing HTC may get better battery life on ICS. I think the Nexus may be a tad to big and no SD card slot or removable battery, which sucks, but I am sure the screen will be incredible. The Rezound will have to impress to keep me with HTC.

The Nexus does have a removable battery.
keep in mind that the nexus is 1.2GHz dc & the rezound is 1.5GHz dc.
the nexus may also have a bigger screen(4.65" instead of 4.3") but it's not a super amoled + & has same pixel count as the iphone's 3.5" screen.

Higher MP doesn't mean that the camera will take better pics. It's all about the sensors that the phone uses. And if you want to take "nice pics", you should get a camera for that, not a phone.

oh I've got a 14mp panasonic lumix for that... but your phone is generally always on you, your camera is not. you need to make sure you are properly covered at all times for emergency picture taking. because you never know when "mother of god!!.. what the hell!?.." and you need to capture the moment.
not to mention paranormal occurances.
Don't get me wrong, I use my phone to take pics quite often. But is there really that big of a difference between 3 mega pixel? I never remember complaining about the pics my D1 took.
I could just be jaded by my desire for the Nexus, IDK
Sent from my TB for a limited time only ... Galaxy Nexus, you will be mine :-D

As mentioned, it's not "mp's" that makes great pictures it's the sensors. The only good thing about an 8mp over a 5mp is if you want to zoom in on someone and see if they have bloodshot eyes! Or more realistically, if you want to blow up a picture to poster size and not lose quality. I think the SGN went 5mp to gain better 0 shutter speed lag.
Anyhow, there are TONS of articles and forums posts that explain this in way better details. Point be said, the SGN having 5mp should NOT be a negative factor.
I have a Thunderbolt for my work phone. My personal phone is a DINC and im eligible for upgrade. I want to get another Tbolt. Should I wait for the Rezound to come out before I get it in hopes the Tbolt's price will drop more?

if you don't upgrade phones very often, wait a couple of weeks and see what deals that best buy, amazon and wirefly offer. I got 2 tbolts, 2 dinc2's for 300 total from amazon.
As far as the rezound, wow!!!
Better specs than I thought it would see. Thank you HTC for finally getting the screen right.
I was definitely in the nexus camp, but now, as long as we can get root on the rezound, I will probably get that after xmas. I like the no buttons look of ICS, but have preferred HTC over samsung for a long time now.
Did we get specs on how much storage the rezound is going to have? I'm hoping 32gb internal like the Nexus.

Not really, the dev support is slightly less then I could hope for (i was running CM10.1 on my Older HTC Sensation 4G, so to go back to ICS is slightly disappointing), but i am satisfied with the phone, screen is amazing, it is supper fast, tons of room, i mean it really is a great phone and i am really optimistic that support will pick up. so no regrets here.
That's great to hear!!! But how's the sound quality on the speaker when talking on the phone?
But please keep the comments coming. I just saw that the phone is 99 at best buy!!! Tempted to get it but just want some actually user reviews from the geeks on xda!

i recommend this phone
i'd buy it again. it'll be nice once i can roll CM10 on it. but the LG firmware is actually not too bad (coming from HTC Sense). i've recommended the device and will continue to do so.
the only two issues i have is:
1) it's slippery. having gorilla glass on both sides looks good, but the damn thing can slide on any surface. it's like it has a 'zero friction' backing.
2) LG created a device with multiple sizes but one name. the LG OG AT&T version is different in size than the LG OG Sprint version. eventually this probably won't be a big deal, but when looking for a case it can be an irritant if you get the wrong size.
love the screen
device is fast
battery lasts @20hrs regular use
great wifi
LTE is fast in my area
sound is fine
speaker could be a bit louder
put me in the unsure column. the phone is fantastic in most aspects: the screen is AMAZING, it is FAST and the build quality is very good. however, there are a few things that are making me doubt my decision:
1) the phone shape makes it a bit uncomfortable to hold and use, it is just a bit too square. my S3 is bigger but feels smaller due to the curve edges.
2) i am starting to have some doubt on if this phone will actually be very popular. so far it doesn't look like it is having too much success which might limit the amount of development and accessories.
3) there are very little accessories for this phone. i think that this is actually due to the fact that ATT once again decided to go with a device that is different than the international version. there are MANY cases for the normal version but very little for the ATT version.
More phones will hit soon. A lot more. Amazon got frigin back ordered on them... Amazon...
Its either a gs3 or this OG. I know cause its between the two

This phone couldn't be much better in my eyes. I am not worried about development as the phone just came out. Most who are complaining fail to realize that only the nexus has huge development right out the gate. Well not to forget galaxy phones.
But overall it is a well put together phone. Wouldn't return it for anything on the market now. Plus the resale in my area (Ga) is around $450 can't beat that if your only paying $99 for it.

I'm getting this phone soon and my only concern, like many others, is lack of support. I see it as the best option otherwise on At&T and I hope that if everyone with doubts supports it, there will be support. If everyone doubting supports goes somewhere else, their doubts will come true.
Anyway, there are quite a few nice cases for the At&T model on Amazon if you search for it specifically. They have a nice looking one for $2.....

You guys worrying about lack of dev support are ye of little faith. The OG doesn't have very many devs but the ones we do have are very proficient.A lot of you guys are soft bricking your phones with simple debloated stock ROM's so don't be surprised that all of the AOSP testing is going on in IRC instead of here. There might even be a Sense port ffs.
I would definitely buy this phone again. I absolutely love it. I had used nothing but HTC and Samsung in the past. They were great phones too, but I like this one better.

Yeah, it's a chicken and egg kinda thing going on. And we have the ability to push the chicken end (build install base). I see a ton of people here saying they are coming from the Atrix and a ton of people from the Atrix saying they are leaving for here. Being one of these people, I'm super pumped because the ATrix community was really great. Hell, I'll probably have some free time ovver the summer, I'd love to help dev for this phone.
No regrets here, coming from the Captivate, I suspect there will eventually be a lot of spill over from the Nexus 4 development, but in the mean time LG's UI is head and shoulders above touchwiz!
Ya I'm on my way to store so after playing with it some more ill decide. Lack of development is expected since this device is new, I suspect it will boom, ain't no telling who is making what. Guess the hard part is waiting! But with the specs of this phone theirs NO WAY yall won't see some kind of development....

I love the LG stock software. It offers more customization than any other stock firmware I've ever used.
The screen is crisp, the battery is excellent, the phone is fast.
It is quite literally the most impressive kit I've ever had the pleasure of using.

I definitely do not regret purchasing this phone. As a matter of fact, so far it's one of the best I've bought over the years. Every smartphone I've ever owned was HTC. I was stuck between the LGOG, S3, Ox+, or Note 2. I looked at all of them and the LGOG won hands down.
A few things drew me in to purchase this phone.
For me, the design is simple, super thin. A lot of people love the curved corners, but that's neither here nor there for me. I get asked about this phone a lot and no one mentions curved corners.
It's big, but not too big to be a huge pain. The screen IS amazing.
With the N4 having the same build and similar specs, I had no doubt there would be development for it.
And finally it has a SD slot! I've pushed every phone I've ever owned to the limit. It takes me no time fill 16 gigs. I need more space options.
No regrets so far here either. Coming from a HOX, the extra storage will be welcomed. I do like the design a lot, but it is ridiculously slippery. I have an invisible shield coming to help with that. Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life. It's blazingly fast and never hiccups. Really looking forward to some Jelly Bean or CM10, but this stock firmware is by far the best I've used. I was torn between this an the HOX+, and honestly what really finally sold me was the $100 priectag Best Buy has on it right now. This phone has the potential to be the best Android device out there at this point, IMO.
I've got an OG N4 and an S3 and the only one I regret buying is the nexus4. Just the lag in screen response is a big enough deal breaker....even with the" fix". The OG can be a better machine than the S3 but is limited to LG's firmware < Samsung firmware. LG wins with screen and the processor but the s3 overclocked to 1.8 and on JB outperforms the OG in terms of system ui snappiness....the s3 still gives a better user experience than the LGOG.....just saying
LGOG E970
If you want a lot of development, get an SIII or Note. If you want an inexpensive yet epic phone, LGOG.
