This is a fully functional 3D gallery for 2.1 users.
The original apk I found had no icon but doggedilo fixed it for us a few posts down. I tried it on x10 mini and X8 and it works just fine.
It catalogs pictures and videos in your phone and shorts them either by folder/name or by date and includes a photo frame widget.
Note that if it will not load pictures/videos from a folder with a .nomedia file (excluded folder) through any file explorer, it will just show a black screen.
Just download attached apk to your sd, install it and you're good to go.

Removing stock album and video app: (REQUIRES ROOT)
Unfortunately the album and camera app are one and the same so removing it will render your camera unsusable unless you have a third
party camera software installed like lgcamera or vignette. Don't say I didn't warn you! You can remove the video app however with no side effects.
If you still want to do it remove these two files from your 'system/app' folder:
SemcCamera.apk, SemcVideo.apk
If you don't own root explorer or you'd rather use adb type these commands:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/stl5 /system
rm -r /system/app/SemcVideo.apk (for video app)
rm -r /system/app/SemcCamera.apk (for camera/album)
mount -o remount,ro -t rfs /dev/stl5 /system
Note that if you haven't used adb before a superuser permission dialog will pop up on your phone when giving the 'su' command,
hit allow otherwise it will not work.
DISCLAIMER: None of this is actually my work, just information I gathered online for personal use and decided to share with you.
If you still wanna thank me please go ahead, that way I can brag about actually doing something good.
Hey! I have an apk fixed for x10 mini. Sadly i dont remember where i got it, but i'll share anyways.
Come to think about it, i dont even remember if it worked on stock 2.1, so someone must test it. I cant cause im not running stock
By stock I mean on 2.1 modded or not...
Both the miniCM and gigglebread have a 3D gallery already included and btw great work guys!
Icon Fixed
Fixed the icon so no more ugly droid atleast. Seems to be working fine.
Copy to SD and install from phone.
Thanks, I don't need to hide it in launcher pro anymore.

Can we delete the stock gallery and replace it with the 3d gallery?
Yes you can.
If you're not sure move the original gallery apk to your sd just in case you need it.

Yep, you can move it and it will be gone. That or copy it somewhere for backup and then uninstall it.

So that's mean i cannot change the album to the 3d gallery.
I have to keep those two together. dang.
thanks anyway.
do u have any idea? or i have to live with album and 3d gallery in my mini?
works on mini pro, a little slow at times
SD read speed plays a major role on how fast it loads. It works super fast for me. Try "SD Speed Increase" from market and change the sd cache to 2048, it will improve your write/read speeds.

Hello lad.. there is no need to remove Camera app, that is SemcCamera since Gallery 3D is album app, not the camera app.
When you click on Camera button in Gallery 3D it actually start SemcCamera app, which is default SE camera app.
You should be removing Album app and Video app (personally im leaving Video app alone, i just hide it in LauncherPro options)..
If you read my post more carefully you'll see that camera and stock album app are one and the same.
There is no way to remove album without removing the camera app because there is no seperate album app.
Unless maybe if you're a dev and know how to do it.

Yeah, that's the conclusion i came to. Spent most of my evening reinstalling apps & data.
Reapplied the mod first thing after reloading firmware and rooting, and it works just fine.
OP: may be worth a note in your post - advise people to delete all widgets from your homescreens before applying the mod, could save a large amount of hassle.
Hmmm...
Could really do with a nandroid backup/restore for the arc.

Yeah, like i say i did this and Home went into a FC loop, forcing a complete firmware reinstall.
Best advice IMO is to remove all widgets from homescreen before applying the mod, then re-add them.

Confirmed working on my Rogers-branded arc: 2.3.3, 3.0.A.2.181.
No issues with force-close, but it did rearrange a few of my widgets. Used Titanium Backup to wipe data on Sony Ericsson Home 1.0 and everything went back to normal.
Code:
adb push Home.apk /sdcard/Home.apk [I]// copies the file to the SD card[/I]
adb shell
su [i]// request superuser[/i]
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system [i]//make system write-able[/i]
dd if="/sdcard/Home.apk" of="/system/app/Home.apk" [I]// overwrites existing Home.apk[/I]
chmod 644 "/system/app/Home.apk" [I]// sets permissions[/I]

You're welcome guys, I think I have found an answer to the not being able to update applications. If you have updates for apps you've installed manually you won't be able to update the application. The manually installed applications still show up in the "My Apps" section of the market.

close terminal and you will be able to watch rented movies on your rooted device
to revert open terminal
Code:
mu
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/bin/mu /system/bin/su
google movie looks for su by name, easy work around because naming it to mu you still have suid, but rooted apps (as well as google movie) are looking for su "name" as well..with the terminal you can tell it suid is mu
gsript doesn't work on this because it too looks for su on the revert
you can copy the code to a notepad and paste it in terminal so you don't have to type every time

If you're on CM7 you can flash Gapps. Or you can extract the vending.apk from CM7 gapps.
So, here's my second contribution to the Photon 4G community in less than 24 hours. Took some time, some work and a lot of learning but I finally got it down... The camera app from the Droid 3. It looks a lot better than our current app and adds the Panorama picture option (which I'm working on; doesn't work as of yet).
IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE, I AM NOT AT FAULT!
Prerequisites:
You need to be rooted
Have a general idea about ADB
Computer running Windows
Download Modded BlurCamera.apk from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/X7JFD9TAVR
Anything in BOLD tells you what you will be doing
Anything in RED needs to be typed in.
1. Visit this link and follow the directions to Deodex your system:
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-themes/4620-how-manually-deodex-your-phone.html
2. Place BlurCamera.apk in your Android SDK Platform-Tools Folder (for example; I extracted the sdk to c:\android so my platform-tools folder is in the directory c:\android\platform-tools)
3. Adb push BlurCamera.apk to your sd card
adb push BlurCamera.apk /sdcard/
4. Open a shell as root
adb shell
su
You should now see a # instead of an $
5. Mount /system
/bin/mount -o remount,rw /system
6. Copy BlurCamera.apk to /system/app
cp /sdcard/BlurCamera.apk /system/app
7. Set permissions
Go into Root Explorer and set permissions to rw-r--r--
7. Reboot phone
reboot
And viola! It works!
Please post your results!

FYI - we already have a panorama option. It isn't under the camera settings as you would think, but if you press menu, and select picture modes, you have a panorama option. It works well and stitches the photos together itself.

In short, how could i manage what to show on "Photos & Videos" widget
And how could i delete and re-generate the thumbnails?
Long Storys here.
I have these
/mnt/sdcard/Music/AlbumA
/mnt/sdcard/Music/AlbumB
/mnt/sdcard/Music/.nomedia
But when i copy a new album from PC containing pictures thru USB MTP
i.e. /mnt/sdcard/Music/AlbumC/Cover.jpg, Back.jpg
The Cover.jpg and Back.jpg are showing on the widget.
But AlbumA, B and C do not show up.
Of Course, I want to hide them.
After a few boot, they disappear.
And the most critical problem, the widget cached my online comic reader cached file...
The comic seems to download the pictures from web to the phone temporarily, but the widget cached all of them and show them all on the widget!!!
OK, fine, i then go clear the comic ready cache.
But the cached images are still showing on the widget.
And i found there are thumbnail on /mnt/sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnail
After i delete all the thumbnail...
The widget shows a lot of broken images icon...
And also don't work on deleting the files in
/mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.sonyericsson.gallery/
/mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.sonyericsson.advancedwidge.photo
How could i regenerate and fix the widget

This is an alternative to the stock gallery.
Using this could "hide" the problem but not actual fix the problem.
Also, the "File Expert" having a shortcut to show all images on the device and it also show the 36 broken images
For all of your information, I tried the following steps:
1) re-move all images from internal storage and reboot and reboot and reboot, nothing happen and the broken image still showing
2) remove cache also (gallery and widget cache), rebootsssss again. same result
3) format internal storage .......rebootss.......the broken images still there, the gallery still showing 36 broken image on an empty named folder
4) setting>privacy>reset setting....rebootsss........SAME!!!!
5) Factory reset......... then the problem gone......
I am guessing the stupid sony media scanner scans some images that is on the phone storage and could only accessed by root (or could access previously but not now, let says some apps/uid removed already)
Still, don't know a exact solution for that.... sigh...
Damn, sorry for reviving the dead without actually helping - after posting I've read again and noticed deleting data/com.sonyericsson.* cached files did not help to the OP (worked for me).
[TRICK][GUIDE] How to stop creating Huge Thumbnail file in "DCIM/.thumbnails" folder
This guide is for the people who wants to save their sd card memory space
The Problem:
As experienced users in android, you may have noticed that android gallery app is creating a huge thumbnail file in "DCIM/.thumbnails" folder on your sd card. In my case it is more than 1GB. I tried deleting it. But, it is getting regenerated after some time. So I searched for a method to stop creating that file to save my sd card space and found this trick. This method may not be a 100% permanant solution for this. But so far I haven't got that huge file in my sd card. Here's the way to do the trick,
Solution:
1. Go to "DCIM/.thumbnails" folder of your sd card and copy the name of the thumbnail file.(mine is " .thumbdata3--1967290299")
2. Now select any unwanted file or take a copy of any file and rename it with that thumbnail filename.( .thumbdata3--1967290299)
Note: Select any small file that you can find in your device. ( I took a 5kb file)
DON'T GET A 0kb FILE!!!
3. Now replace the original thumbnail file with the small file that we renamed.
THAT'S ALL!!!! YOU HAVE DONE IT!!! :good:
Bug: This method only works until your gallery is updated. (by adding new files to an album)
If you like my work, don't forget to hit the THANKS button!!!
Is it ok if i delete all thumb pict in that folder?
sent from my white Satsuma Billabong edition

found the problem. it will be recreated when the gallery is updating ( when you move files or when new files added to the gallery) still couldn't find a solution.

I have simplest way, just delete your xperia galery and replace it with quickpic
Currently, my method is the best solution for generated huge thumbnails file in DCIM folder. Why?
Because it will not regenerated any thumbnails file anymore. In my case, the thumbnails almost reach 3GB.
Just need root phone and FolderMount app.
In FolderMount app, click add button. Just put any name in name field. In source field, select folder where thumbnails file generated.
After that, in destination field link it into system directory. After that click save. Here as example:
Why system directory? This is because the system is read only. Without mount read and write, the thumbnails cant be generated. So, dont worry about your system directory being filled by thumbnails because it will not generated thumbnails file anymore.
What about gallery? Does it run properly?
It still working as usual. But it may slow down the loading of picture after every boot.
Dont forget to set to run after boot in FolderMount preferences.
This method should work on all Xperia smartphones with stock album app.

could this be another solution:
my phone is rooted. will replacing the stock gallery and vid player stop the thumbnail files from being regenerated?

I think you have to disable media scanning also for that
for videos I prefer to add .nomedia file in the folder and browse them and open with any file explorer manualy. it's also available to hide some specific video folder
Alternatively, what I did was
SETTING -> STORAGE -> MAKE MORE SPACE -> UNINSTALL APPS
Wait till all apps been listed out then BACK, this will remove the thumbdata file. Don't ask me why, just by fluke...
I'm using HTC One S.
A Solution that works, NO ROOT
Just found this:
Using any file manager (I used ES file manager) rename/delete the .thumbnails folder and then create a new 'file' by the very same name: .thumbnails. After this I am not seeing any thumbnails created. Also the impact on gallery is not all that bothering.
Honestly, I do not use the default gallery much, but when the photos change, thumbnails are still getting created, probably when new images are added. But this certainly seems to put a stop to it.
I uninstalled gallery on my phone (galaxy s blaze, rooted with ics 4.04) and .thumbnails still gets recreated every few days. I will try deleting .thumbnails folder and making it a read-only file.
Hi there , i got same problem too , i have found that its not my gallery cause i disable the gallery but still phone is making a huge thumbnail..
i had solve this before with using quick pic app witch makes its own thumbs in other way of making thumbs.
But any other application like whatsapp messaging or xplore file manager that trays to make a thumbnail will fail like that. And other apps is not working normal because of no space left. I also used you solution but its being replaced with same name and size of space free left.
