Right, so back when the X10 was on Android 1.6 it had quite a nice thin notification bar, and the sliding app drawer was rather nice too, but ever since 2.1 they've both been replaced, and the notification bar is bigger and closer to stock Android size. My question is...is there some way, either involving internal tinkering, flashing a new ROM or whatever, to bring back the old, thin notification bar without having to downgrade to 1.6 again? Can the same be done with the old app drawer?
(Also, first post here, so hi. I know my way around a forum usually, and I did some extensive searching before asking but to little effect.)
It is not possible mate. I really liked it too.

I was afraid of that; though on the face of it it would seem that it should be possible, at least in theory. I suppose one way would be contacting Sony Ericsson about it as an optional inclusion in a 2.1-based update or adding into 2.3, but that seems pretty unlikely.
EDIT: Or if it's possible to dualboot 1.6 with 2.1 somehow, it would be worth trying.
sorry for reviving an old thread, Im on the arc now but i have an x10....i really want the sliding drawer back. Can anyone on 1.6 post the home apk, see if its installable with some tweaks? thanks!

Hello,
I recently got an Xperia X10a and upgraded it from Android 1.6 to 2.1. Everything works great except I am wondering if it is possible to change the new menu back to a pull-up menu like the 1.6 version had. I'm sorry if this is a noob question but I've searched all over these forums and even Googled it but could not find an answer. I don't know if there is a simple way to do it or if rooting and modding is required, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes.
Also, what is the simplest way to change the lockscreen back to the original 1.6 style?
Many thanks in advance!
Lockbot Pro does the job for lockscreen..!!
Thanks, that seems to solve my lockscreen problem. Now the phone is almost perfect.
It would be nice if I can figure out how to get the pull-up menu back. I know it should be possible...

Firstly learn to hit the thanks button in return for some help and secondly the pull up menu was a part of 1.6 launcher.. i think that's not possible unless custom launcher devs like adw etc make some provisions for it..
Hmm, well isn't ADW open-source? Maybe I'll be able to use that to make a pull-up menu myself. After all, I do have some coding experience, it should be possible...
Also, I don't know Android too well yet, but if I root my phone then what's keeping me from modifying the launcher directly?

if you know coding.. then there's hope..!!
If you want to do that i hope you are well skilled in coding...
BUT: I think there'd be no other way to get what you want...

There's a little confusion here, which is understandable.
Everyone is assuming the OP wants Stage UI version 1.6, and based upon his original post I would have as well. But that's not what he wants. What he wants is the drop-down tab bar that appeared on Dell Streaks running Donut (Android 1.6). As you can see the version numbers are the same.
Unfortunately for the OP, there is no version of that tab bar for 2.2.2.

My apologies, i didn't realise he wanted that.
You cannot have some things from Donut and Eclair, your options are, find a alternative or downgrade, downgrading is crazy though... i like the Donut screen lock, but i wouldn't downgrade to Donut to have it.
No I didn't want the tabs, as i said earlier, because in the other thread it was clarified that it can't be done in later FW-s
I only want a launcher which can really use the landscape mode, cause I use my devices in that position only, and the stock 1.6 launcher seems to be really good at that, buit all the launchers is optimized for portrait use, so they not very good at accomodating landscape

Just recieve the 3.2 update on my verizon sgt2. Is there any way to change the icons on the new bottom dock?
Thanks in advance from a noob.
I don't think that this a stupid question at all. I just loaded Task's newest ROM and since it is a slim downed version, there are several apps that used to be in the tray which are not part of the "slim" package. This looks like a great opportunity to fill in the blanks with apps that I actually use. I would love to know how to do this.

Samsung hasn't yet release the API for the mini apps thingy..so not yet
...world clock is pretty useless
Hi, just recently switched over to android after being an iphone user since 2007. So bare with me as I am learning the lingo and software. The hardware of the HTC one made me cheat. So here I am.
So.... This has been a very different experience from jailbreaks on iphone. So as of now I cannot really get the lock screen the way I'd like. The sense lock screen is not customizable like the stock android lock screen. And I have tried apps such as widget locker and then tried adding things on such as dash clock but things aren't smooth and some apps just don't work well together. Not all the functionality of dash clock will work within widget locker. And widget locker will show the default lock screen whenever I get a phone call....kind of defeats the purpose of having the app in the first place....
I tried the Cyanogen 10.1 rom but found I missed certain aspects of sense 5.... I like blink feed and the way the phone from sense is integrated. Android's stock phone app is bland and not that well integrated and intuitive IMO... Also the beats audio and zoe and camera features that made the camera and speakers great was missing... lets just say those tweaks make a huge difference in camera quality and audio quality that I could not replace with any apps.
So right now I'm currently rooted on Trickdroid version 7.5.0 with JB 4.2.2 and sense 5 on my htc one from AT&T. I flashed the tweaks package that came with the rom and installed the asop JB lock screen hoping I could add widgets to it and customize it the way I want. Unfortunately It won't let me do that with the ASOP lock screen either....I'm not sure why they added it with the rom if it doesn't do what it's supposed to? The tweak package itself is also having a weird bug that causes the status bar to have two clocks.
Anyhow I guess my question is..... is there a better way of customizing my lock screen or is there another rom that would suite my needs? And how would one go about uninstalling a particular tweak package?
Thank you in advance
No one?
I'd like to report the bug to the developers but I haven't posted up enough replies.
Any suggestions on a better rom? One with stock android but still retains the betas audio and htc camera tweaks?
You're gonna have to wait until the GE one drops for the stock with beats and camera. As for the lockscreen, you're not getting much mod wise. Also you can't just delete a tweak you flashed, you have to restore a nandroid you (should have) made in recovery.

The best piece of advice anyone on this (or any other) forum can possibly give you:
If you're going to be toying with the phone in the manner in which we do here, please please please make a nandroid backup. I'm asking for your own sake and ours. It's the best way to revert to a previous state your phone was in if you have any troubles.

Thanks for the response. I was afraid I'd have to wait. Do you think the GE rom will be available right away to non GE HTC ones or would we have to wait for a developer to mod it for use for us?
Hopefully we can just flash it as an ruu. When someone gets a leak or someone makes a system dump it should be flashable. If not it'll take a little moding which shouldn't take too long for a dev to do.

Mine came with it now, so i was just wondering what would happen if i were to save those APK's (theres touchwiz itself, touchwiz launcher i think, maybe a couple others) to apply on top of a stock android OS??
Is that possible at all? It would be 4.0.4 style, but that doesnt bother me at all. if its possible that is.

Well, yes you can put your touchwiz.apk to other OS, what its going to do is its going to make you device look like samsung device. These are the launchers used to customize the look of the whole ecosystem and that's is the major reason why people drives away from iOS to the Android ecosystem try using the touchwiz launcher and see your device transform onto samsung.

Please do your research before replying.
No it will not work as they need the base touchwiz framework to work properly which stock google doesn't have.
This is the price you pay for running a custom aosp based ROM.

No because the frameworks control the whole OS. They are not cross compatible

Hmm, in that case, are there mods available to make every part of the stock OS look like the touchwiz OS, including the notification area?? Thats gotta be my biggest thing that i hate about stock. I love the compact 1 page aspect of the touchwiz version.
I know theres a theme for touchwiz, i tried it on another device. but all it changed was the main screens. settings and notification areas stayed stock. That was a total bummer, i thought i found my solution right there...

Some have a notification setting for the compact tiles but not completely like touch Wiz. I would either get used to not having them or use a stock based ROM. To be honest I would get used to bot having them as with the next update the whole thing is changing again.

Well the one i tried playing with the settings with is the moto G... but there are practically NO customization settings, at all. wallpaper and ringtones were all i was able to find. no notification bar settings, no compact, no nothing.
Im still using my ICS with no issues... im more thinking ahead for the future, will possibly set a couple of roms aside to try. Its gonna take alot to get used to the much uglier notification area though... maybe ill never have to!
