Perhaps the video, bluetooth and camera drivers can be ported over to our AOSP ROMs (jt's and kaos's) so camcorder, bluetooth, and video playback functions will work.

Actually, every Galaxy S *except* the Fascinate is pretty far along in development. Working AOSP-base Gingerbread ROMS and everything. And the i9000 has Touchwiz Gingerbread.
Given that Samsung has already released Froyo for our exact hardware, the Fascinate thing is clearly a Verizon issue at this point. Whether it's to sell the Charge (maybe, but AT&T didn't block the Captivate for the Infuse) or, more likely, Bing BS, who knows.

All the Galaxy S are relatively similar, so we can work from other Galaxy's sources. After all, they are the same family.
It just sucks that we don't have our "own" sources.

well not really...source from the other i500s (showcase, mesmerize) is extremely useful
but while bits and pieces (to my understanding) have been gleamed from other sgs variants...clearly not a whole lot can be...given the progress (aosp/gb) that the i9000 and gsm phones have

It seems like its possible to use some of the Epic's 2.3 sources for JT/Kaos AOSP/CM. Like BT/MMS/Camcoder, those things we currently have problem with.
Let's just think positively
Would be nice if a dev let us know how valuable the Epic and Charge source files were.
Am curious myself since those phones are CDMA.

Gripe: same story as always alot of unneccessary changes to the source code making it appear to be incompatible with the other handsets. Sorted out a good portion of it this morning. Their working on a GB rom.
As you know, TW doesn't like putting out beta's or random half-cooked roms... so they need/want everything to work from step 1.
there's 2 GB roms out right now, CM7 and Double Rainbow.
Neither have GPS working.
Maybe thats why they haven't released? they haven't found a way to make GPS work yet?

From the Team Whiskey website homepage "TeamWhiskey is a development group thats dedicated to working to speed up, bug fix, lag fix, and enhance the Android user experience of their Vibrant model SGS Series Phone and more to come as projects expand.. This site is dedicated to information about our projects, ROMs, known and critical bugs and fixes, and information about upcoming and ongoing projects or additions to the project." All the phones listed in their forums are SGS phones, but the only one with any significant number of threads is the Vibrant. Relax. They'll be out with something soon.

It looks to be an attempt to help/take some pressure of teamhacksung CM9 endeavor. Op has got a bunch of stuff fixed(mic, camera still broken). It looks like Codeworkx has even been giving OP some direction too.
I'm sure a lot of you have been following this development too, but when it all gets worked out, what does/can it mean for us I777 owners?
Edit: I know there are a bunch of ICS anticipation threads already(I'm not trying to add to clutter) but I did debate putting this in Q&A
That sounds promising. It's a good thing that they're close to a new kernel. Would love to test it out, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work to hellraise it. I really don't take pics, and I could easily just text people if need be.
You know it works if you flash it like they say to right? No need to hellraise. The soft keys are a little wonky, but its fun to get a good feel of aosp ics.

Well its simply a matter of duration. The captivate has been out for over a year and a half. The dev community there has had all that time to work through the various leaks, numerous builds(whether samsung or att approved). Basically, a lot of the problems that are being run into with the SGS II have been solved months ago for other devices(captivate, vibrant). In short, they've been at it a lot longer. Keep in mind the GS II has been out just shy of 3 months and look what the devs have already done...

I disagree. The gs2 has been out for 8mo. The issue we have is that no devices use our chipset really - its rare so to speak. The original gs series has a port basically because of the nexus s - same hardware to an extent.

I'm speaking of the ATT variant(I777) which came out 10/2. International variant, yes, has been out a while longer, but there are some differences in each. Yes, they share the same chipset but that hasn't stopped the Dev's in the I9100 forums from putting out solid roms. Otherwise, why would we need Hellraiser if they are that "similar".
You disagree that its just a matter of time? If so, you don't think that in another 3 months we'll have made major progress related to Roms(whether ICS or not), kernels, etc?

Agreed Leo and Scott are doing a great job at developing cm7/MIUI to work on a tablet as best it can.. But it is almost a lost cause since ics is already on a lot of devices....
I'm sure modifying a kanged ROM is a lot easier than making a port/SDK ROM as a lot of the drivers have to be made from scratch... I've given up on android on the TP till ICS. When that happens ill donate a handsome reward to the team that does it.. till then... WebOS will have to do... As I only use it for media/web I'm good for now... I have a EVO 3d for apps and such that android excels in...

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

The only thing you're gaining by going to the Galaxy Nexus is a better screen and NFC. I dont understand why people switch phones over Android versions.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

Didn't I just read that if you remove the AT&T logo, you get ics automatically?

Tired of waiting!!!!
I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. A lot of my friends have phones with ICS roms and it is such a improvement over GB. I don't understand how one and two year old phones have ICS and Samsung won't allow us to have it. It is ridiculous.

I mean I understand sorta, but it doesn't help to threaten the devs that if they don't do what you want you will leave. Tbh, I don't think any dev really cares.

I am not threatening the devs at all. I am sick of Samsung not the devs. Read a little more careful next time.

What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

This thread is useless. Now on to something more important. When will we get jelly bean? I can't wait.
