I did a small amount of googling and found that it's a pretty common problem. I had it when I first got the phone, along with the sd card issues, so I figured if I replaced the sd card and stuck on a custom rom all would be well.
I was wrong. all sd card issues are gone but tue phone still randomly turns off about twice a week. I have only used void echo and now LOL 1.4.2.
Has anyone solved this? Does using a different firmware help, or is that the same as a custom rom?

does it turn off completely or does it restart. my phone restarts but never turns off completely.
what class sd card do you have?
It's not the sd card, which is class 6. Other people have out happen even when no sd card is used.
The phone turns completely off while the screen is off, and gives no warning. out happened just now actually, I left out in the lunch room an hour ago, and when I came back it was off.

So, is there a difference between firmware and rom?

Just recently I noticed that I can not save anything new to my SD card. I can delete something off the card only for it to reappear. Wiped everything reinstalled backups doesn't seem to matter. Any suggestions.

I hate to day it but sounds like you need to reformat the SD card.

I was thinking the same thing. I had been using bootmanager as you know runs different ROMS directly off the card. I can't say if that was the cause but everything is leading that way. For instance, everytime I may need to reboot the phone it automatically boots in bootmanager... long story.

I've heard people having lots of issues with bootmanager. It may be part of your problem as well.

Hey guys.
So I went to work today and while I was on break, my phone acted up a couple of times. Once, the mobile internet cut itself off and I had to restart my phone to get it to turn back on.
Then when I get off of work, my phone isn't reading my SD card.
I tried unmounting and then mounting it back several times, but no luck getting anything.
So then I hooked it into a card reader on my computer and all the files show up, then suddenly the computer got an error saying that the driver wasn't recognized and then stopped reading it.
What is the problem and how can this be fixed?
I can even open Root Browser app and it shows all the files on my SD card. All pictures, music, videos, etc.
But for some reason when I go to gallery, music, or whatever else... it won't pull up.
Back it up to pc if u can then reformat it to fat32

I wish I could. My computer will read it but only for a few seconds and then says something about a driver error.
I'm guessing the card may be going bad?
Can u mount phone to pc?

Just tried doing this, and surprisingly, yes. So I got it all copying to the computer now.
It just doesn't make sense to me that it can mount like this and my files still be on the card and not read when I go to pull them up. Especially when I go to Root Browser and I can see all the files.

So I copied all files to my computer, formatted the SD card again, put all files back onto the SD, and still have the same problem.
Note that my phone is reading the SD in Root Browser; however, when I go to my gallery, music, videos, etc.. my phone tells me that there are none and acts as if the SD card is empty. I even go to SD and Storage and it says my card is empty, but it's not.

You're going to need a new one bud. There is definitely something wrong with it physically if you have done aall of that and it is still doing that.

Just wiped my phone completely and restored my most recent backup and now my phone reads it just fine, so problem fixed.
Undoubtedly my phone got set to some strange setting while it was in my back pocket that I never knew my phone had.
Strange. =\
Thanks for the help guys. I suppose if you see anyone or if you run into this problem in the future, here's how it can be fixed.

You didn't use quick format, did you? If so, try formatting it without quick format.

The thing is... I haven't downloaded or changed anything at all with my phone in over 2 weeks. Either it tripped out or something happened to where a setting changed while it was in my back pocket.
Glad I fixed it.
I had a feeling it was probably a setting issue that happened, so I got the idea to restore from a backup to get back original settings and BAM!

I have a PNY 32gb sdcard that's been working perfectly since I picked up the S4 in May. This morning there was a message on my phone saying there isn't an sdcard detected. I've tried popping it in and out several times, rebooting, etc. None of that helped. It's not even visible in recovery. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm stumped.
Sometimes sd cards go bad without warning. It's best to keep your important things backed up on your computer. Sounds to me like you need a new card.

Yeah, I guess the obvious next troubleshooting step here is trying a different sdcard (which I don't have now). Just wanted to see if there was a known issue slash easy solution that was out there already.
You can try your sd card in your computer before trashing it. You might be able to get it to work long enough to retrieve your saved files.

Hello XDA Community,
My Phone started to make me angry the last 3 days. I have this little problem, I always get a warning "SD Card has been removed". But the thing is I dont pull the Card out or anything. I tried to turn off the Phone take the SD out and put it back in, It worked for 1 Day, and today the same happend again. To make the SD Card work again, I have to pull it out and put it back in - that gets pretty annoying.
Anyone of you guys have the same issue? What do you think could this be? An Phone Issue or maybe my SD is damaged?
G

I Also had this issue (eventually it wouldnt Mount at all) and it turned out to be a corrupted sdcard. Pop the sdcard in your computer and run a scan and repair any damage on the sdcard

You may Have to Replace it though if nothing works and you cant recover any data (if you can then start making backups Now)

So, I copied the whole SD on my PC. Formatted it, let Windows (chkdsk) check the Card but no errors were found. Ive tried another Programm (Easus Partion Manager), checked the Card with the Programm, but it was the same, no Errrors. So I copied everything back on my SD, lets hope that it works now.
Thanks for the help anyway.

Try to run a badblocks utility to make sure it has no bad blocks.

So,
I changed the charging port for my S2 few days ago.
Now it keeps shutting itself down when it starts to prepare SD card.
Could it be because my phone is rooted and I don't have the SD card anymore?
I haven't yet tried to do anything as I thought you guys would know a little more about this weird problem.
Once again sorry for horribly written thread.
Thanks in advance
