annoying tmo jingle on start up - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how do i get rid of that loud annoying tmo jingle on a startup and yes im rooted

Load a custom rom and add whatever boot animation you want. I believe you can navigate to the system folder/media and delete it. Did that on my wires mytouch.

The easy way is to set your system volume to 0. No flashing needed.

Setting system volume to 0 worked on my phone with Eclair, but on Froyo it didn't silence it anymore. Pretty much the reason I rooted in the first place was to get rid of that damn noise! Go into /system/media with a file explorer like Super Manager, mount as rw, and either rename the startup.wav (or is it a .ogg? :shrug, our just delete it. Also, you could flash a custom ROM (Trigger perhaps?) and that would also take care of it and make your phone smoother/faster.
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.

You could download sgs tools (google it) and modify the boot up sound!

Just delete the file. The vibrant guide has this and a ton more. My signature.

[Q] PowerOn.wav and Axura 2.2 JL1

I just recently moved from stock, and decided to go with Axura 2.2... I am loveng it!
When I was on stock, I had rooted and changed the bootup and shutdown animations and sounds and I liked what I had.
I have searched a while here and on Google... Everytime I find a link that looks like it has an answer and read 4-5 pages and even more sometimes, after a poster asks this question, there's never an answer.
I would like to have a boot-up sound again. I have placed the files in the right directories. I get the shutdown animation and sound I want. I get the bootup animation I want, but it remains silent. I have tried renaming the files to all lower-case and all upper-case. I have tried taking a look at the android development site on anything about bootup, but can't find it there.
Anyone have an answer???
Get oclf install ext2 tools and repair bootanimation
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Will that ruin the bootanimation.zip ability of the ROM?????
I worked hard on making that animation since it was 'easier' than the QMG stuff.
EDIT
Nevermind... Just tried it and still doesn't help...
Where r u putting it, system/etc? And did u rename it PowerOn.wav
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
That is the location, and yes... it is currently labeled PowerOn.wav. I also tried poweron.wav, POWERON.wav on.wav ON.wav boot.wav BOOT.wav...Boopt.wav... I just can't get bootup sounds... Maybe I should ask at the Axura site/forum...
Just strange it wont work only had that problem 1 time and oclf worked for me
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Just now flashed to JFD and then went straight to Axura. Should I flash to J16 then Axura??? Everything else is working great...
Just flash str8 to axura
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
This is getting quite annoying.
Added into the Axura 2.2 zip the bootupanimation.zip, PowerOn.wav, shutdown files and shutdown.ogg...
Used ODIN to go to JFD, rooted, installed rommanager, downloaded clockwork, rebooted into recovery and installed the rom... Still no bootup sound. To be on the safe side incase the audio file was bad, I used the stock PowerOn.wav file...
Again, boot-up animation works, no sound. Shutdown animation works with sound.
Is there some kind of script file I can look at and edit???
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm in the same position as you, kinda.
I've freshly flashed Axura 2.2.5.5. My boot animation works fine, but, like you, there's no sound. I've also tried putting the PowerOn.wav file in different directories but nothing works. However, my shutdown animation doesn't work, and neither does the sound. The shutdown folder is in system/media/video and the shutdown.cfg should be correct (012345678910 11 12 13.. etc) and the shutdown.ogg file is in system/media/sound/ui. How did you get yours working?
I tried adding
PHP:
s PowerOn.wav
as the final line in the desc.txt located in the bootanimation.zip, but this led to the boot animation not appearing. Maybe you can try this and see if its any different for you?
edit: Nevermind about the shutdown animation/sound, I got it to work. Now for the boot animation sound...
Try SGS Tools in the android market. Worked like a charm for me. Got Darth Vader sounds for the power on and power off sound. Super easy!

Change splash image?

Is it possible sorry for the question but its really easy on an htc phone haven't been able to figure it out for this phone any help would be appreciated
sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
I don't recall any threads on this, but the kernels like overstock and tigers blood do... Perhaps pm them?
THERE is a way.
You can change it to whatever picture you want.
Its a bit advanced but theres a program for it.
I'll give when I get back from school.
Getting late
Thanks can't wait to try
sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
There are 2 splash images. One hard coded into the kernel (only changeable through kernel source then recompiling the kernel) and the splash image located in the param.lfs partition.
So changing the param.lfs splash image won't get rid of the kernel splash image.

Change it to what? Do you want to make your own splash screen or just use one from another ROM that you liked?
If its using one from another ROM...its easy....
Download RootExplorer.
Open it and go to the "system" folder. then look for the "/media" file (/system/media) then look for the file called "bootanimation.zip"
That is the boot splash screen file.
If you want one from another ROM.
USE YOUR COMPUTER and open the ROM.zip file you want (bionix1.3.1.zip or sweethoney25.zip) could be any ROM.
Now navigate to the same folder "system\media" and copy the "bootanimation.zip" to you desktop.
Now plug your phone to your computer and copy the bootanimation.zip to your phone....anywhere is good just remember where you put it.
Now unplug your phone and open RootExplorer. Find the "bootanimation.zip" you just copied to your phone and long press it.
Choose the "move" option.
Now go to the "system\media" folder....long press the bootanimation.zip in that folder and choose "delete"...now paste the other bootanimation.zip into this folder.
Reboot!
Viola...you have your bootanimation.
If you want the stock Galaxy bootanimation...just use Rootexplorer and delete the file "bootanimation.zip" from the "system\media" folder and reboot! (this option only works if you see two different files in the folder named samsungboot.qmg and samsungbootloop.qmg...as those are the files for stock bootanimation)
::if this helps feel free to thank me""
Not the bootanimation the splash image at the begining I know how to change bootanimations. The image before the bootanimation. On htc phones you can change that along with the boot

Sorry guys, I know how to fix it, and change it to any image wanted...
I saw a video on it and tried on my phone and worked while on 2.2
The video is on mobile tech videos or something, but you need to go to their website for software and everything.
I haven't been to a computer in 4 days ,its broken, so I'll try to post link when I can.
Great Info Thank You
Here is a youtube link. The video states only for i9000, but the website has files for the t959 (vibrant) and the process is the same. I have successfully used this method. On my vibrant. Also attached is the image I flashed if you want it.

This is the one I'm talking about!!

Lost boot animation, I've got nothing...

Not that I mind too terribly much but when I installed dmesg and ran it I lost my boot animation all together. Fun.
I'm rooted on 4.1.57 running GreyBlur 2.1 or whatever the newest is. I used root explorer and made sure there is a bootanimation.zip file where it belongs. Tried manually adding different boot animation zips via rootexplorer. Nada.
Am I missing something?
You can try this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042736, but I don't really know if it will work or not. It is a theme removal app which will also allow you to attempt to reset your boot animation to stock. Has worked for me. It will only replace the bootanimation.zip but won't change any of the settings that call it., so if those are messed up then this won't help.
Just make sure you say no to the first question in the bat or else it will maul your greyblur theming.
Awesome! Ill give that a shot once I can get on a windows machine at work tomorrow. Luckily this isn't a life or death problem.

You can also download one of the fine boot animations here in the forum straight to your device and then copy it to the /system/media directory on your phone.

http://www.teamroyal.net/id61.html#TurnOffBoodSounds
Turn Off Boot Sound
commands for boot audio and changing boot animation:
open terminal
type 'su' then press enter
type one of the following and hit enter .. there will be no output if everything worked.
newbootsound - copies /sdcard/android_audio.mp3 as new bootsound
newbootanim - copies /sdcard/bootanimation.zip as new boot animation
bootsoundoff - turns boot sound off
bootsoundon - turns boot sound back on
If the commands don't work for you then you can use Root Explorer to perform the following:
1. Go to your System's media file (/system/media)
2. Make sure you select 'Mount System R/W' in the upper right corner.
3. Then either delete the android_audio.mp3 file or else change the file name to android_audio.mp3.bak.
4. No more boot sound
Any mp3 you put at this same location named android_audio.mp3 will be your boot sound.

I'm no adb pro, but I imagine you could pull/push the new & old files with those directories...something like "adb pull /system/media/android_audio.mp3 android_audio.mp3", then delete/overwrite that file in your sdk platform-tools folder (Windows, newer version), and do "adb push android_audio.mp3 /system/media/android_audio.mp3"
But don't quote me on that!
Thanks guys that worked. I was looking under the universal faqs thats why I couldn't find the instructions
Another way to add boot audio
Another way is to use Absolute System or Root Explorer to access system/customize/CID/default.xml and add audio under boot animation. Copy your default.xml in case you delete or mess it up. SEE ATTACHMENT for where to place in default.xml AND make sure its in the exact same place, a space over will disable the sound but won't ruin your system.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE AS A RESULT OF USING THIS CONTENT, JUST AS IT IS NO ONE ELSES FAULT FOR ANY DAMAGE I MIGHT DO TO MINE. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE RISKS INVOLVED, YA MIGHT JUST BE BETTER OFF STICKING WITH STOCK. It's not that complicated, just do a little research. Plenty of knowledge floating around XDA...
Simple enough:
1:: download the .zip
2:: rename it (using ES File Explorer or Astro or any ROOT EXPLORER that will allow you to MOUNT SYSTEM AS WRITABLE) by simply cutting out the description so that it is just bootanimation.zip
3:: copy or cut the bootanimation.zip and paste it in the system/media folder or data/local
4:: you will be warned that the merge will overwrite the existing file and that the world will end (not really, just accept the merge)
REBOOT
...don't be afraid to use the "THANKS" button...
Looks awesome. Will be trying later today. Thanks!

To anyone who wants to save their current animation in case they wanna go back. Just use something like root explorer to make a copy of the bootanimation.zip that u already had in system/media
And paste the copy on ir sdcard for safekeeping
Ill be checking this one(and all the others I see in ur sig...wow lol)) later ....thanks
you can also just drop this in the data/local folder and your current boot animation will remain untouched in system/media

Yup ..that too
I was speaking more for the system media folder
I had noticed it worked that way when I had changed it b4 using root tools...

You can also change the ending to .bak instead of .zip and it can stay in the media folder.

Yea
When I tried that when.using root tools tho it deleted my stock animation ...
Copying the zip is fool proof
For some reason it only plays once instead of repeating until the phone boots. Is that normal?
