Hi there,
OK so, after spending like...a day getting some form of recovery on my Streak, the only thing that worked was Streakmod. Ok, awesome. I must have read 100's of guides to install Streakmod, but none of them seem to work for me! Bah! So, here's what I do, just so it ain't all me bein' crazy an' all:
Download StreakDroid 1.6.1
Put update-1.6.1.zip in the root of the sd card
I make a text file called "install.txt" in the root of the sd card.
In the "install.txt" file, put:
"adwlauncher
volboost
tabmail
bios"
Although the only one that really matters is adwlauncher. Right. Now, I boot into recovery, select ...Update.pkg and I get into Streakmod Recovery. Then restore to factory settings, dalvic cache, (even battery, just to be sure), and system cache orwhateveritscalled. Also fix permissions, even though that probably wouldn't do anything. Then I select install from update.zip, and then choose zip file. I select update-1.6.1 and it all goes smoothly. After it's finished installing, I restore to factory settings, wipe the caches again. I don't think I did "fix permissions" but hey that shouldn't matter. Ok. Click Reboot. It boots up, takes ages.
Now, on the times i've done this and put bios in the install.txt, it's does most the boot, then gets stuck. either on "achieving root" or "Initialising......../". Or it might restart the boot animation, indefinitely.
If I don't put the boot animation in, it goes all the way up to the lockscreen, I can see that there needs to be a pattern entered, but the touchscreen doesn't regester my inputs and after about 8 seconds it reboots anyway. BUT it only reboots to the start of the default boot image, the dell being ripped apart by the STREAKDROID in the middle of it. it will then just keep pulsating DJ Steven and then go back to only dell, and then get ripped apart, and the process starts all over again.
I've also tried having only ADW Launcher in the install.txt file, too. That didn't help, it did the same as it does if you dont put bios in.
So I was wondering, what should I do? I desperately want to liberate my streak from the clutches of stock, but every route is blocked. Any ideas on how I can get Streakmod working? Thankyou so much.
I hope I've explained this well enough, but it's kinda hard!
If it's any help, ROM Manager (premium) doesn't show any custom rom's if I click "Download Rom's". It also wont let me flash clockwork mod, or any of the older versions.
Thanks so much!

The wipe using the recovery doesnt work (although it says it is successful). You need to wipe using the factory reset option on the original recovery and then install the streakdroid update package using the custom recovery.
I ve faced the same problem before and dont worry.. the wipe fixes the problem!
Thanks a bunch

FLASHABLE ZIP, (1)RESTORING NC TO STOCK/FACTORY OR (2)CWR REMOVAL ONLY
What you will find here: files to restore to stock (v. 1.0.0 or 1.0.1) and files to remove CWR and thus restore stock recovery (8 failed boots and factory reset [power+n]).
______________CAVEAT________________
Keep in mind that the Nook is really hard to brick. By that, I mean almost impossible. The reason is simple: it has a boot priority on uSD, which means you can always boot your NC from the uSD with, for example, Nookie Froyo (see thread in Dev section). From there you can install Clockwork recovery and other applications (ibid) and repair almost anything. So please, don't panic.
If you ask for help, explain yourself exhaustively on what you have done to require attention. Thank you.
All the usual warnings apply. I cannot guarantee that the following won't have side effects, although I'm pretty sure it won't. Please read complete thread before attempting anything.
Do not attempt flashing files unless you really need to or absolutely know what you are doing.
____________________________
______________UPDATE-01/23/2011_______________
There is another method to restore to stock. If you know your way around ADB, please read this thread: click here, as it will guarantee a clean restoring of your partition. The below files only copy files, but cannot "recreate" your partitions. Both methods can work, but the one linked above (shad0wf0x's thread) will work without exception. Only requirement is that you can use ADB. Thank you.
_______________________________________________
I know a few people out there are struggling after having messed up their Nook's partitions (boot, system, etc.). Hope this will help.
Requirements:
- Rom manager / Clockwork Recovery. This can be easily installed through Nookie Froyo booted from uSD, or through rooted NC. See Clockwork Recovery thread for more information.- A uSD with enough free space (at least 175 MB). Make sure uSD is mounted (see mounts option in Clockwork Recovery). If it doesn't read your uSD, format from an Android device (Memory settings, unmount-> format).
Files to restore NC to stock (1):
If AND ONLY if you choose to restore completely your NC, /data and /system partitions must be formatted before flashing. See mounts and storage option in CWR.
LINKS ARE DOWN: please refer to the following post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22809801&postcount=148
BEWARE: These files will reset you Nook Color to stock and remove Clockwork Recovery, by replacing /boot, /system, and /media with stock
If you choose to flash one of the two files above, formating /data and /system is required BEFORE flashing the file (see mounts and storage in CWR) ! After flashing, resets (8 failed and power+n) shouldn't be necessary, everything should work straight "out of the box" after flashing the file.
Or,
File to remove CWR and restore stock recovery (2):
If you simply wish to remove CW Recovery, use this file, which restores /boot only:
EDIT: files are not available anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Size: 6.1MB, md5sum: 6d00a461a221e69195440355f6706104
Note that this last file will affect your rooting of the NC.
If you should choose to keep your NC rooted, try this:
EDIT: files are not available anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Keep in mind this last file has not been tested on my NC. It's necessarily less dangerous than the other files (which already aren't very dangerous). But still, please give me some feedback on whether it works or not. Cheers.
5. As a last attempt to fixing your NC, if your nook never gets passed the "Touch the future screen" or simply doesn't boot, try this file:
EDIT: files are not available anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.

quick question, if we removed cwrecovery then will the 8 boot reset work again?
Yes, it will. That's the point.
beautiful! Thats just what i wanted, thanks alot man
Thank you. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to check out the B & N 2.2 update coming out soon. It worked great. After flashing I had to factory reset the data (three finger salute) and everything worked out great. Now I'm in the process of installing the 1.0.1 update and then will probably go back to where I was before (autonooter with clockwork recovery). I have a nandroid backup and titanium backup of everything so won't take long. Thanks again. Great job!
Tried out method 2. Looks like i have a corrupted recovery now It wont go past the "Touch the future of reading" and when i do the 2 button salute it brings me to a screen that says the install failed
EDIT: Nvm. just magically worked again.
Edit 2: I used the 2nd method and it wasn't smooth sailing. I'm gonna relate what happened and what I did so that samuelhaff can help others if they have the same problem:
I originally auto-nookered the device and then installed CWR. I foolishly tried to do the 8 hard resets and was met with the recovery screen. I also foolishly wiped the data and cache hoping that would do the trick and alas it just left me with a "touch the android" homescreen that didn't work.
At this point I used the second method after I tried froyo and when I reset the nook the nook it would get stuck at the the "Touch the future of reading." So to fix it i tried to get into recovery by holding the N button and the power button and it showed me a screen that said the install failed and then the nook started booting normally again. Not smooth sailing but it worked so thanks a lot!
you're awesome. Wish I had this last week. haha

Thank you for your contribution.
I don't understand why your NC wouldn't boot pass the splash. Will have to see if that happens again.
But on the other hand, I have noticed that the first boot after restoring may show up an "install failed" notice. Which, again I don't understand just yet. But everything should work if you boot a second time.
Anyway, I'll look into it. In the mean time, both files should help quite a few hot-headed nookers, like myself.
If I new you better, I would fall in love with you. Maybe we should take this slowly.
Is it possible to make a 1.0.1 version
This is a huge step forward. Thanks for posting this. It makes experimentation much more possible.
I'm so happy. I think I'm going to be able to stop crying now.
Good job, sir...
If i can stop screwing up all of my technical endevours, i'm going to start trying to make a rom kitchen, now that there is a streamlined way back...
Nevermind, I can't seem to do anything correctly this weekend...

Ok. Which method did you use? (1) or (2)? Before flashing, were you using v. 1.0.0 ou 1.0.1? Try updating to 1.0.1. See if Wifi is working. If not, try method (1) (again?). Do both resets (8 failed and power+n).

OH THANK GOD :-D I did the power+n and it brought it back... Thank you SOOOO much for such a quick response... I have no clue what the heck caused that... that was weird...
I'm stuck in a loop. I flashed CWM. Then proceded to partition. I followed GoodIntentions web page to the letter untill I got to the fix permissions. As soon as I executed it immediately said fixing permissions...Done! I was waiting for some on screen instruction but damn that was fast and it said "Done!" It then highlighted reboot recovery so I executed. Then it said booting recovery kernel image and took me right back to the first CWM menu then highlighted reboot system now. So I executed and it said again booting recovery kernel image and highlighted reboot system now again.
There were a few things that were odd to me during the CWM flash.
1. I already had a recovery file in my root directory of my gtab. I had to do a factory reset on the 11th because of something my kids did. Note kigs no longer play with gtab. The file was a text file so I thought that it would be able to tell the difference when booting. Maybe an issue, maybe not, just putting that out there.
2. The gtab never autimatically rebooted after CWM install. It did highlight the reboot option so I pressed the home key to execute.
3. There were no on screen instructions in the fix permissions. It just said "Done!"
For information purposes I am providing my bootloader version and CWM.
- Bootloader 1.2-4349
-ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.8 (GTAB 1.2 and NI Adam rev5)
HELP!
When you reboot the system, make sure you reboot the right option. There are 2 reboot options in CWM: (a) reboot system and (b) reboot CWM. Whenever you're done flashing a ROM or fix permission, CWM will automatically highlight choice (b). You need to press the back button to go back out to main menu and choose reboot system.
I did both
I did both and it still loops me back to the CWM main. At the root menu "reboot system now" is on the top and "advanced" is at the bottom. Reboot system now is highlighted so I execute then it shows me the birds and the kernel image message. Then I'm right back at the CWM root menu. The only thing I did was partition and fix permissions. The fix permissions just said done as soon as i hit they button. There was no instruction beyond that.
How did you flash in CWM?
I'm guessing... oh gosh... tell me first how you flashed in CWM.
While I figure out what's going on, have you checked to see if the volume + button is stuck?
it's not stuck. I'm able to change highlighted options.
Ok, try this. When you're in CWM, do a data wipe.
OK doing it now.
ok I did it. it says data wipe complet and took me back to the root menu
What next?
Well, after data wipe then try to reboot system.
PS - we're trying to solve a problem over in development. Sorry, I'm distracted.
nothing, still doing the same thing.
No problem. Im just stoked someone is willing to take the time to help me out. I joke at the term dummies cause I'm ignorant to this new technology. But so you know, I'm exmilitary MI so I'm very anal about following instructions. I know I did this to the letter so it blows my mind as to what went wrong. Your web site is very thorough so I have to believe that it has something to do with that damn recovery text file that was already in my root directory before I unzipped the other. Just a thought.
It appears that somehow your boot image has been replaced by CWM. Without delving too much into details, visit my page on nvflash and nvflash your way out. What rom were you running before you put cwm in?
Added by edit.
On second thought, yes that recovery file might have something to do with it. Without knowing what it is, I can't really tell you what it did.
You should just flash in a new rom using cwm.
Added by edit again.
You're not going to sniper me are you? If so, I'm x-cop... almost won the damn marksman competition, too.
HA HA no sniping. But it is good to know I'm dealing with another person that has life experience. I was running 1.2-4349.
1.2 stock rom?
yeah 1.2 stock ROM
If you still wanna use stock rom, then nvflash back to stock rom. Look at the nvflash page of my website. If you want something better, I highly recommend the calkulin+clemsyn combo. It's in my rom page. The whole process should take you about 20 minutes and then you will have a tablet that's 10 times faster and smoother. Also, your kids will be able to play with it and you won't have to worry about them messing it up. Trust me, man, you'll be a lot happier.
PS - we got the problem solved in the development section. Good thing, too, because I'm about to go on my nightly run.
Added by edit.
Actually, go to start here page. And choose "You bricked your gtab and now you are freaking out."
The way I understand this is that I have to flash back to stock ROM first. Then install CWM. Then install the new ROM.
You are the man. Thanks for all your help. I'll give this a shot and post how it turned out. Enjoy your run!
I have followed you instructions on the web site to the letter. I tried it several times and each time it stops booting at the birds screen. I went back and restored it using the backup file I created during the flash. That Part D has me a bit confused. I don't understand why you choose "install zip from sdcard" in step 1. Then what seems to be some reformatting when you "Choose wipe data/factory reset" in step 2 and "Choose wipe cache partition" in step 3 and "Choose Wipe Dalvik Cache" in step 5. Then you "Go back out and choose install zip from sdcard" in step 6. The only difference that I can see is that you expand the step by explaining how to find the zip file in the following steps. I have done it by the letter several times and I've also tried it other ways. As I'm typing this my tablet is still on the birds screen. I'm almost there. I can taste it. I just need a bit more guidance. As a note I will tell yousince I've had to do this the hard way, I'm not in the least bit intimmidated by this process. And I can do it with some speed now. Thanks GoodIntentions!
I have done some additional reading in the forums and discovered that this considered a soft brick. I do a CWM restore and everything goes back to stock and works fine, but each time I try to load Calkulin_Clemsyn Combo Overclock it locks at the birds during boot. I already nvflashed in case you don't remember. I can go back and do it again, but I'm at a loss. I'm not sure if it would accomplish anything more than my current result since I had already done it. I really don't know where to go from here. I also read that Viewsonic may have locked the bootloader to keep us from modding the Gtab. Which makes no sense cause modding is really the only thing driving the sales for these things. Even if I were to nvflash this thing again whose to say it doesn't do the same thing. I haven't seen a fix or workaround for this anywhere once it's been nvflashed again. What do I do from here?
I'm having the same problem here.
I had Vegan Ginger Edition running and it was working great. I decided to Factory Reset the tablet. I used Settings|Privacy|Factory Reset.
But it went into endless reboots, I think. What it was doing is that the screen that says Vegan Tab Ginger Edition comes and it does the animation (shocking and flashing), and it does this like 3 times and then the screen goes blank for a second or so and then the animation starts again, and so on, and it keeps on repeating forever and then it would turn off automatically.
I booted into recovery Clockwork Recovery, and tried to do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, etc, but nothing helped.
I eventually ended up in doing Wipe Dalvik Cache. Now it does not even get to that Vegan Tab animation. It now gets stuck at "Powered by G-TABDEVS" screen.
Any suggestions? Do I need to re-install? If so I guess I will have to copy the zip to SDCARD and then install it, since I can't boot at all. Is there any other option?
Ya, just reflash vegan ginger.
I reflashed it. It now moves on and does not stop at G-TABDEVS screen, but it is exhibiting the same problem. Repeated VEGAN-TAB GingerEdition screens.
What do I do?
I just flashed CyanogenMod, and even that exhibits the same issue. I even went in and did mounts and storage>format system as well as format data. And then flashed it. But still the same.
More bad news. I nvflashed bekit's original image. It now is showing the original big eliptical g-tablet logo as it boots up, but it continues to cycle between the birds and the gtablet logo.
CWM is also gone. When I try to go into recovery all it displays is the big triangle with exclamation sign for a second or so and then restarts the tablet going back into the endless cycle.
I am now totally stuck. Please help.
have you ever repartitioned your device using Clockworkmod Recovery?
I've seen the tablet just bootloop on the bootanimiation if you have never repartitioned. Mine did it and so did a friends of mine. Tablet working great for weeks, installed different ROMs then one day a reboot and it just loops the bootanimation. Repartitioned in CWM (2048/0) and the problem never returned.
Of course you need to get CWM back on. Read the threads on NVFlash and you should be able to just nvflash the clockwork image to the device to boot in to CWM. Repartition and reinstall your ROM.

Hey goodintentions, I know you have good intentions , but I have been working with gtablet mods for quite some time now. Usually when you have a bricked gtablet, you are desperately looking for a solution. That's why I hopped from Vegan to Cyanogen to stock etc within an hour or so. And when you have been working on things for some time, you tend to not look at anything that says "start here". Honestly I had never seen your page before, which by the way is pretty good and would have been a life saver if I had known it.
I wonder... what should I name the page as?
I promise you, my instructions work for 99% of the problems people encounter.

I have no doubt.
Hi guys,
Please forgive me if I sound stupid as I'm a complete newbie when it comes to modding Android phones.
Basically, I'm after installing the CM6 ROM onto my phone but have not been successful at all due to me not knowing how to follow the instructions for doing this properly especially from the links below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059361
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066824
I spent hours last night trying to do it but had no luck at all as I just can't understand how to and couldn't find clear enough instructions.
The reason I want to install this is because my current version of 2.1 is very unstable and reboots almost twice a day without fail. Also it freezes when doing simple things such as browsing apps or even the web or facebook etc. Also crashes often too causing me to reboot the phone.
Things I've tried so far:
Performed a full backup using in built Backup & Restore app then copied te backup file onto the PC
Managed to Root phone using SuperOneClick (easy enough app to use)
Downloaded CWM Recovery from one of the download links from the links above and ended up with 2 files found in system\bin\ called chargemon & recovery.tar.
I copied these 2 files in the root of the phone through Windows then tried rebooting phone then clicking on back key several times at boot screen but do not get any recovery mode or anything.
Tried xRecovery and this has an extra file called busybee but this doesn't work for me either.
Googled how to install xRecovery and CWM Recovery but none of the Youtube videos or sites give me clear instructions I can follow. Different sites have different methods.
In the end I got annoyed and unrooted the phone.
Would the instructions in this link wok for me do you think?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164475
Has anyone tried this method?
It seems easy enough but knowing my luck, it'll prob fail lol.
Right I tried following the instructions from the link below but I couldn't get the recovery app running after the batch file reboots my phone. The only step I skipped is restoring to a fresh copy of factory rom using seus but surely this shouldnt make a difference.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164475&page=2
Goto mini pro android development thread see the post of quangnhut123 about AIO Automatic Installation....
Right I followed the link below as before after restoring the phone back to a factory 2.1 rom using Seus. This time eit let me into the recovery mode where I was easily able to flash to CM6 rom provided by slade87. It took me to the android logo screen after rebooting the phone kept crashing here. I then reset the phone to factory defaults using recovery mode then it got me to the gui but there were no icons being displayed so I rebooted again & finally everything seemed normal.
It's still buggy though as titanium backup failed to restore my phone contacts even though it told me it was successful. I had backed them up before I had reset the phone to factory rom.
I'm unable to turn off the annoying sound when im typing on the keyboard even though i've checked every setting.
Live wallpaper doesn't work at all. Just gets stuck saying 'loading' when i choose one to preview.
I thought this cm7 rom was bug free.
Any ideas on fixes for the bugs reported anyone??
hi,
well, I have a mini pro also and I noticed that it's a little different from mini but there are good threads here in xda and I think you've read those as I understood from your post.
I'm using the cm6.01 like you choose and it took me some time to get there.... just like you but i can tell you what I did and maybe it helps you:
I used FlashTool_0.2.9.1 and rooted from there, then clicked "ask root perms" and in advanced menu I've selected "install busybox". after this I clicked in "xrecovery"
...ok, now the 1st part is done, and you have to put your rom (for mini pro) in sd card.
reboot and when you see the white text "sony ericsson" start pressing the right key ( <--) in your x10.
from here I did:wipe data, wipe cache and install zip from ad card, chose zip from sd card.
after install you'll reboot and you should go to this boot menu again and chose wipe data, to avoid crashing at the X logo.
I did this and it's done, without any problems!
Thanks for your response.
I've already done most of what you have mentioned anyway. The only difference is I used SuperOneClick to root my phone then used a script to install CWM Recovery.
My CM6.01 zip file was already stored on the SD card and this is where I browsed to just like you.
I'm just going to leave it to be honest.
I've noticed the touch keyboard makes the clicking sounds when used but the hardware keyboard doesn't make any sounds.
I've manually finished copying my contacts over so everything is kind of back to normal after lots of hassle.
I'm scared to flash it again because Titanium recovery being hopeless and very unreliable after my findings.
Why so scared?
Save numbers in SIMcard, with a free smsbackup you can save your sms's, by hooking up your phone to the pc you have your photo's, what do you need more?
Then you can do whatever you want, you can't really brick the phone because mine did nothing, and with SEUS I got it working again.
Just root like you did before, get the CWMRecovery.apk to install CWM automaticly, put any rom you like on the root of your SD and press back on boot for CWM to flash it.
Then do factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, I always do battery stats, then goto install from sd and select your ROM.
Yes I am new to rooting droids, but I am not illiterate in this subject. However, I am pregnant, and over emotional and possibly losing my mind because I can't get my phone to work. (Sounds like a noob issue right?!)
I have a droid 2, latest update, blahblah.
I rooted it, no problem, got good instructions from here, downloaded ROM manager, and Bootstrap. I downloaded Liquid Dream ROM. Flashed Clockwork, and rebooted. ROM seemed to download onto the device fine, finished rebooting and now it plays the Liquid Dream animation on start up over and over. Currently I am in reboot mode but I am stuck, I don't know where to go from here (because I am a noob, I know). So I'm hope full that someone with a lot more knowledge on this can help me out, so I don't totally lose my mind. Thanks for your time future person who helps me! (I hope)
did you wipe all the data/cache and davlik prior to installing a new rom. When ever changing roms, you need to clear out the old data.
go into fastboot, clear data/cache and under advance clear dalvik.
try that.

(I hope)

Well, something probably didn´t upload ok. So, what you have to do know is: make sure the .zip file in the sdcard is not corrupted. In order to make sure of that, you can try to download it again (you will need an sdcard reader). Then, when you have already the .zip file in the sdcard, boot into recovery. From boot loop the best way is to boot the phone pressing power + volumen down, then choose recovery from the hboot menu. Once you are in the CWM recovery menu, do a wipe data / factory reset. wipe cache partion and format system.
When that is done, you are able to flash the zip file from install .zip from sdcard choice. That should work and get your cell back to life.
It might be Clockwork. There have been some issues with it. If none of the above suggestions work, try getting Amon Ra.
If ClockWorkMod does not work you can try flashing the 4EXT recovery...works smoothly at least in my Inspire 4G.
