I'm stuck in a loop. I flashed CWM. Then proceded to partition. I followed GoodIntentions web page to the letter untill I got to the fix permissions. As soon as I executed it immediately said fixing permissions...Done! I was waiting for some on screen instruction but damn that was fast and it said "Done!" It then highlighted reboot recovery so I executed. Then it said booting recovery kernel image and took me right back to the first CWM menu then highlighted reboot system now. So I executed and it said again booting recovery kernel image and highlighted reboot system now again.
There were a few things that were odd to me during the CWM flash.
1. I already had a recovery file in my root directory of my gtab. I had to do a factory reset on the 11th because of something my kids did. Note kigs no longer play with gtab. The file was a text file so I thought that it would be able to tell the difference when booting. Maybe an issue, maybe not, just putting that out there.
2. The gtab never autimatically rebooted after CWM install. It did highlight the reboot option so I pressed the home key to execute.
3. There were no on screen instructions in the fix permissions. It just said "Done!"
For information purposes I am providing my bootloader version and CWM.
- Bootloader 1.2-4349
-ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.8 (GTAB 1.2 and NI Adam rev5)
HELP!
When you reboot the system, make sure you reboot the right option. There are 2 reboot options in CWM: (a) reboot system and (b) reboot CWM. Whenever you're done flashing a ROM or fix permission, CWM will automatically highlight choice (b). You need to press the back button to go back out to main menu and choose reboot system.
I did both
I did both and it still loops me back to the CWM main. At the root menu "reboot system now" is on the top and "advanced" is at the bottom. Reboot system now is highlighted so I execute then it shows me the birds and the kernel image message. Then I'm right back at the CWM root menu. The only thing I did was partition and fix permissions. The fix permissions just said done as soon as i hit they button. There was no instruction beyond that.
How did you flash in CWM?
I'm guessing... oh gosh... tell me first how you flashed in CWM.
While I figure out what's going on, have you checked to see if the volume + button is stuck?
it's not stuck. I'm able to change highlighted options.
Ok, try this. When you're in CWM, do a data wipe.
OK doing it now.
ok I did it. it says data wipe complet and took me back to the root menu
What next?
Well, after data wipe then try to reboot system.
PS - we're trying to solve a problem over in development. Sorry, I'm distracted.
nothing, still doing the same thing.
No problem. Im just stoked someone is willing to take the time to help me out. I joke at the term dummies cause I'm ignorant to this new technology. But so you know, I'm exmilitary MI so I'm very anal about following instructions. I know I did this to the letter so it blows my mind as to what went wrong. Your web site is very thorough so I have to believe that it has something to do with that damn recovery text file that was already in my root directory before I unzipped the other. Just a thought.
It appears that somehow your boot image has been replaced by CWM. Without delving too much into details, visit my page on nvflash and nvflash your way out. What rom were you running before you put cwm in?
Added by edit.
On second thought, yes that recovery file might have something to do with it. Without knowing what it is, I can't really tell you what it did.
You should just flash in a new rom using cwm.
Added by edit again.
You're not going to sniper me are you? If so, I'm x-cop... almost won the damn marksman competition, too.
HA HA no sniping. But it is good to know I'm dealing with another person that has life experience. I was running 1.2-4349.
1.2 stock rom?
yeah 1.2 stock ROM
If you still wanna use stock rom, then nvflash back to stock rom. Look at the nvflash page of my website. If you want something better, I highly recommend the calkulin+clemsyn combo. It's in my rom page. The whole process should take you about 20 minutes and then you will have a tablet that's 10 times faster and smoother. Also, your kids will be able to play with it and you won't have to worry about them messing it up. Trust me, man, you'll be a lot happier.
PS - we got the problem solved in the development section. Good thing, too, because I'm about to go on my nightly run.
Added by edit.
Actually, go to start here page. And choose "You bricked your gtab and now you are freaking out."
The way I understand this is that I have to flash back to stock ROM first. Then install CWM. Then install the new ROM.
You are the man. Thanks for all your help. I'll give this a shot and post how it turned out. Enjoy your run!
I have followed you instructions on the web site to the letter. I tried it several times and each time it stops booting at the birds screen. I went back and restored it using the backup file I created during the flash. That Part D has me a bit confused. I don't understand why you choose "install zip from sdcard" in step 1. Then what seems to be some reformatting when you "Choose wipe data/factory reset" in step 2 and "Choose wipe cache partition" in step 3 and "Choose Wipe Dalvik Cache" in step 5. Then you "Go back out and choose install zip from sdcard" in step 6. The only difference that I can see is that you expand the step by explaining how to find the zip file in the following steps. I have done it by the letter several times and I've also tried it other ways. As I'm typing this my tablet is still on the birds screen. I'm almost there. I can taste it. I just need a bit more guidance. As a note I will tell yousince I've had to do this the hard way, I'm not in the least bit intimmidated by this process. And I can do it with some speed now. Thanks GoodIntentions!
I have done some additional reading in the forums and discovered that this considered a soft brick. I do a CWM restore and everything goes back to stock and works fine, but each time I try to load Calkulin_Clemsyn Combo Overclock it locks at the birds during boot. I already nvflashed in case you don't remember. I can go back and do it again, but I'm at a loss. I'm not sure if it would accomplish anything more than my current result since I had already done it. I really don't know where to go from here. I also read that Viewsonic may have locked the bootloader to keep us from modding the Gtab. Which makes no sense cause modding is really the only thing driving the sales for these things. Even if I were to nvflash this thing again whose to say it doesn't do the same thing. I haven't seen a fix or workaround for this anywhere once it's been nvflashed again. What do I do from here?
I'm having the same problem here.

Can one of the wooters upload the nvflash backup that they created. I noticed mine wont boot up with the backup provided http://db.tt/Wm25t7U.
rbansal2,
I'm not a wooter but I do know a few things about the nvflash procedure.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
The two files called for in the NVFlash Procedure from the Developers Forum are
correct. The file with "windows" in the middle provides the nvflash.exe and related
files. The file with "gtablet" and 1105 in it is commonly called "bekit 1105" and has
been around as a stock fall back since at least last November. Using other file
combinations often causes problems for your tablet.
If you do a successful flash, it should show the whole process on your screen and you
will have to press a button to continue once. When you do it will boot all the way
through to the main screen of bekit 1105 -- AKA stock version 2638. If that version
runs, when you install wifi internet it very soon offers you OTA (over the air) Update 3588.
With stock 3588 running well you can go where you want to from there.
Second, if you don't get a successful install, the next step usually recommended is
to flash CWM on to your tablet either using a microSD card and the external slot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020747
The above threads give info on installing CWM. And there are others.
If you successfully install CWM and can boot recovery (power/volume+)
to it, you need to go in to the Advanced Menu and run Partition (2048/0),
Fix Permissions and Wipe Dalvick Cache. Then go back to the Main menu
and run Wipe Cache and Wipe/Reset Factory Data. Then shut down.
When you re-boot, hopefully you'll be up with bekit 1105 and can wifi and
update as above.
I can't say iron clad this works "all" the time, but it has been more than
successful for a lot of folks.
Try it again if you like and let us know if you make progress.
Good Luck,
Rev
my problem is that I dont see anything when i boot up. My g tab is stuck in apx mode and I cant seem to get out of it, therefore i cant flash cwm :/
What my long thread was saying is I think you should go through the nvflash process
again, double checking everything along the way.
If that doesn't give you a working tab, then you can put CWM on a microSD and boot
recovery to /SDCARD2 and see if you can install CWM that way.
If neither of those work you are no worse off than you are now -- and if one of them works we have a chance.
Rev
did that..used the nvflash_gtablet_46_2010112600.zip file to recover it this time and it worked...thnx for your help...really appreciate it
rbansal2,
You are fortunate. When I said double-check things, I meant to do it
per the procedure. If you read these forums, you will see that the
"46" file is not recommended for a reason -- it frequently causes boot
loops. (Besides, it is a linux file for use with Linux though it is named
like a Windows file. I don't know why -- we're borrowing someone's
library to get the four correct files.
I say this not to diminish your joy, but to say watch for problems and
be careful.
Good luck,

I install the clockworkmod for set up the GTAB rom...
but now i want to return to the stock recovery...so how to uninstall clockworkmod?
thanks!
savage,
You install CWM to replace the stock recovery. Therefore, you have to re-install the
stock recovery. If you were using a stock rom like say 3588, you would just reinstall
the rom again and let it overwrite CWM.
But since I don't know what rom you are using, you need to check the source of
your rom, make sure it contains the stock recovery -- and then inquire of the issuer
of the rom whether or not you should re-install or do some other special procedure.
Rev
thanks! Now i am using the VEGAn-Tab Build rom~
so what should i do next?
sorry for the confusion~
GTAB ROM is not granular enough - you running stock or a modded ROM? If so, which ROM?
I can reply for TNT Lite 4.3.0+ or gADAM 1.3.0+ - there's a script setup to go back to standard recovery. If you are running either of these, please see my first posts on those ROMs for instructions on what to do. Again, this is only if you are running TNT Lite or gADAM.
You can also attempt to flash standard recovery using a build 3588 standard recovery firmware image in PART3 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005080
savage,
EDIT: roebeet answered you first so I'll just stand by and see what y'all do.
Good luck!

problem with installing CWM
I got my gtablet yesterday and tried to install CWM v.8 using external micro SD card. It looked like it was half way done because it could not reboot by itself and stuck at a screen asking for reboot. So I selected reboot but it did not reboot. I had to force it to close. When I pressed volume+ and power, it had this message on the upper left coner: Recover key detected, booting recovery kernel image and 3 birds in the middle of the screen. It stuck there forever without doing anything. I only installed Z4root and nothing else. How can I remove the half-done CWM and redo it again. If I can do it again, what should I look out to avoid the same error?

If you got your tablet yesterday, then it probqbly had firmware 1.2.4349 on it, which is a 1.2 bootloader firmware. You tried installing a CWM made for a 1.1 bootloader. how much research did you do prior to modding? Seeing as you installed Z4root, I'd imagine that you didn't do much, as it's not needed at all to root your G-tab.
go to http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ and start reading at "START HERE" to get an idea of what your dealing with, and what you can and can't do...look through the entire site!
to get out of where you are now, and back to a workable base, follow the "CODE RED" instructions here: http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/
Lastly...don't do anything else silly until you've read and understand all of the instructions on Goodintentions site...it's a GREAT resource and should be a pre-requisite for all new G-Tab owners.
So I am just about at my wits end. I am fairly computer literate but an absolute noob when it comes to my gtab and flashing it.
I’ll try and give a step by step.
1. Got my Gtab today. I was sooooo excited!
2. Installed CWM and the latest TNT lite ROM.
3. All is well everything worked great.
4. Started up Android market…all hell starts breaking loose with “forced closes”.
5. Ok…so I shut down and restart
6. It starts what I have learned is called a “boot loop” going from the birds to the “G Tablet” screen to black to the birds…
7. I try to reflash TNT…nothin’.
8. I try NVflash, it *says* it completed successfully, but stays in the boot loop.
9. I’ve tried copying the CWM onto the microsd card (yes, command is pointing to the micro card). I then go through the Hold down the plus and start.
10. CWM *seems* to install, then HEY…right back into the boot loop.
11. I try something else and get (in little red text in the top left corner of the screen) something about “Magic” something missing.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I am a smart guy…I can read. The thing is, is that it seems like the mods and the CWM’s are completing successfully, but then I am right back in the flippin’ boot loop. I am afraid I’ve just wasted $300.
Sorry to be the dumb noob.
Pat
Did you change the partition when you installed the new rom? That was what fixed mine.
No...none of the instructions I saw mentioned that. Now I am seeing using CWM to do it but the problem is I can't get CWM to load!
if CWM is installed, you just need to hold V+ and power button when restarting. if not (and this happened to me) you should follow the instructions that were given to me by regalpimpin on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025128 to install CWM, and re partition (you will loose all the data on your internal SD card so be sure to back up) but repartition at 2048 and 0 unless the ROM specifically asks for a different partition.
You need to nvflash if you are getting the magic value mismatch. You could have gotten out of the boot loop originally by repartitioning. Only use bekit 0.8 recovery as any others will bork your tab. Dont use rom manager either.
mocheesehead,
First don't panic. We can fix this. It's REALLY hard to brick
a G-Tablet!
You have done all the right things from what you have written.
As Lisa said the one thing you haven't done is re-partition and
it seems that re-partitioning fixes boot loops most of the time.
Double check. Use your microSD with the CWM update.zip on it.
Since the command file is erased when you use it, you will need
to copy a new copy of the command file edited for /SDCARD2 back
into the recovery folder. Boot into recovery with power/volume +.
When all is finished shut down properly. The reboot as above and
see if you get CWM.
If you don't, you will have to try to load CWM by nvflash. If you
will try the above again, I will see if I can find directions for CWM
by nvflash. I know the process but will have to find the correct
command line.
*************
Just in case CWM loads: I will go ahead put the fix process here:
1. When CWM starts, go to the Advanced Menu and run the
Partition SDCARD, Fix Permissions, and Wipe Dalvik Cache options.
The re-partition takes a few minutes so
don't panic! Then go back to the Main Menu and Wipe Cache
and Wipe/Reset Factory Settings.
2. Once that is done, reboot and hopefully you will be fixed.
3. If not fixed, nvflash back to stock as per the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Makes everything -- especially the files to load -- is correct.
Keep us posted on how you do. Meanwhile I will look for the
other procedure and post it.

Hi Lisa! Yes! That sounds like my problem. I'll give it a go.
Quick question...is there a preferred format (ie, FAT32, etc) for the micro SD card?
I'll let you know how it turns out!
Thanks...Pat
Pat,
Read this thread. This person had about the same kind of situation
you do and had to nvflash to load CWM.

Hey cheesehead! Absolutely follow Rev's advise! I was the Guy in the thread he references above. The fix worked like a champ.
You will get it fixed, just as I did. Same issue.
Mark
Thanks to everyone for the kind and informative responses. I probably won't get to a fix til Monday morning I as I have a soccer tourney (kids) all weekend, but I'll report back when I know something!
Thanks again,
Pat
As everybody said, it is almost brick proof, as long as you follow the correct procedures. Some people don't seem to understand missing one step can make things worse. Most of these post give you step by step instructions and by finding the right one to read you can't go wrong. I'm sure you will eventually have it worked out, learning what does what and why you did that will be a big help in the long run.
Ok! So I think I am breathing again! I partitioned the card and got back to the stock UI...man...it does really blow! So, a couple of questions...
1. I flashed TNT lite, and had force close issues. Would you recommend Vegan?
2. Now that I partitioned the card 2048 and 0 like everyone said, do I need to do this again before or after I flash a new rom?
Again, thanks for everyone's kind responses!
Pat
Glad to hear you made back to stock. Here in a bit I will write a step by step how to upgrade to TNTL 4.40 for you if some one doesn't beat me to it.
Thanks JH! I look forward to giving it another go! I appreciate your help!
Pat
Pat,
Remember that the bekit 1105 is about the oldest stock UI that exists!!! Most of us
started with 2967 on our first G-Tablets.
It WAS bad and there was no Flash and no replacement kernal and TnT was at about 2.x and VEGAn was at about .beta 3.
On the other hand, we didn't miss a lot of it because we were trying to keep them
running and find out what they would do and find apps we liked!!!
When I run the latest software I just can't believe how lucky we are.....IMHO.

Hi there,
OK so, after spending like...a day getting some form of recovery on my Streak, the only thing that worked was Streakmod. Ok, awesome. I must have read 100's of guides to install Streakmod, but none of them seem to work for me! Bah! So, here's what I do, just so it ain't all me bein' crazy an' all:
Download StreakDroid 1.6.1
Put update-1.6.1.zip in the root of the sd card
I make a text file called "install.txt" in the root of the sd card.
In the "install.txt" file, put:
"adwlauncher
volboost
tabmail
bios"
Although the only one that really matters is adwlauncher. Right. Now, I boot into recovery, select ...Update.pkg and I get into Streakmod Recovery. Then restore to factory settings, dalvic cache, (even battery, just to be sure), and system cache orwhateveritscalled. Also fix permissions, even though that probably wouldn't do anything. Then I select install from update.zip, and then choose zip file. I select update-1.6.1 and it all goes smoothly. After it's finished installing, I restore to factory settings, wipe the caches again. I don't think I did "fix permissions" but hey that shouldn't matter. Ok. Click Reboot. It boots up, takes ages.
Now, on the times i've done this and put bios in the install.txt, it's does most the boot, then gets stuck. either on "achieving root" or "Initialising......../". Or it might restart the boot animation, indefinitely.
If I don't put the boot animation in, it goes all the way up to the lockscreen, I can see that there needs to be a pattern entered, but the touchscreen doesn't regester my inputs and after about 8 seconds it reboots anyway. BUT it only reboots to the start of the default boot image, the dell being ripped apart by the STREAKDROID in the middle of it. it will then just keep pulsating DJ Steven and then go back to only dell, and then get ripped apart, and the process starts all over again.
I've also tried having only ADW Launcher in the install.txt file, too. That didn't help, it did the same as it does if you dont put bios in.
So I was wondering, what should I do? I desperately want to liberate my streak from the clutches of stock, but every route is blocked. Any ideas on how I can get Streakmod working? Thankyou so much.
I hope I've explained this well enough, but it's kinda hard!
If it's any help, ROM Manager (premium) doesn't show any custom rom's if I click "Download Rom's". It also wont let me flash clockwork mod, or any of the older versions.
Thanks so much!
Reward!
{The person who posts the answer on how to fix this (and if it works) will get rewarded in the form of a £5 paypal donation!}
The wipe using the recovery doesnt work (although it says it is successful). You need to wipe using the factory reset option on the original recovery and then install the streakdroid update package using the custom recovery.
I ve faced the same problem before and dont worry.. the wipe fixes the problem!
Thanks a bunch
Would you like your £5 donation?
Yes!! thank you!
I consider myself a noob when it comes down 2 hacking the mobile world. BUT! I have successfully managed 2 root and get a custom rom on my tf201 without bricking it and without the slightest of problems. I want 2 try and help ppl that have no idea what they are doing( as I a while ago) and will show you whatever I used and what i did to get to where I got.
First things first! this will be for users with the .21 update (as this was what I had).
Basically guys to get a custom rom you need CWM root etc! (CWM is clockworkmod recovery, a screen that you see with the 3 button combo, this will further allow you to install roms from your SD). As far as I know you cannot Root .21 update and you have to do something that is called "unlock", this is the simplest **** ever.
NOTE: If anything happens to your device I am not responsible.
STEP 1 unlock this ****
unlocking the prime will immediatly void your warrenty(says this everywhere). All you need is to install an APK from asus site.
the guide for this is here:
http://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...ow-to-unlock-bootloader-on-transformer-prime/
I think this link includes EVERYTHING you need and its got a video so you cant go wrong. This also has the DOWNLOAD for the APK that you need
STEP 2!GET CWM on your DEVICE
Ok so this step again isnt tough its simple and yet again I have a link for you to follow:http://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...orkmod-recovery-5-8-2-0-on-transformer-prime/
when you get to the command prompt step you can copy paste the commands into Command prompt by right click and paste(didnt realise at first and was trying with ctrl v).
STEP 3! CHOOSE AND INSTALL A ROM
Ok so this is clearly and entirely based on AOKP.
You can get it from here :http://transformerprimeroot.com/transformer-prime-roms/aokp-ics-rom-for-rooted-transformer-prime/
im guesing its somewhere on xda but i seriously cnt find **** on this forum.
ok so its simple
-Download the AOKP rom from that site and throw it on your tablets memory(the rom is in a zip file DONT unzip it) Oh make sure you remember where you put it I just put it in the main directory not in any folders so i can find it right away
-press power+volume down button until you see the message for CWM and press volume up straight away.
-now in the CWM you will see a number of options. we care about things to do with wipe
-Wipe data(find it on the menu and press power button to enter and then select yes)
-factory reset(find it on the menu and press power button to enter and then select yes).
-people recomend backing up existing rom which is also in the menu(don't know why so i did it anywayz)
-select advance and then select wipe dalvik cache.
-FINALLY now go to and select install zip from sd card. Now this shows you your files. you have to find where you put the ROM thats why i always keep it completely up front
-when you found your rom select it and press the power button and then select again install with the power button.
-it will complete and all you have to do is reboot
AND YOU ARE DONE
don't worry if all of these take a few minutes its normal
I don't take any credit for this as all of the stuff i did i found on that site. Don't know who's it is but i think they did a gr8 job.
I hope this guide has helped ppl that had no idea what they are doing.
Last thing. em not very active on this forum just trying 2 be nice cause many users here are assholes and will say **** like "I spent 2 weeks researching and found it myself so I won't help you cause you didnt put the same effort" or similar(its happend 2 me almost every time I asked for something), but i have to say I probably won't reply cause I've got other stuff that are more important right now(LIFE). If I stumble upon this again which its likely I'll try help you out. Even though i think its crystal clear:$
So yet again enjoy hope this helps PEACE-
