So i rooted my phone manually (ran rage.bin, pushed su, busybox, and Superuser) and then used odin to flash the CWM_recovery_DL09.tar. to get to CWM recovery i had to go through blue recovery every time (apply update.zip). Once i got into CWM i flashed a DL30 rom and my phone wouldnt boot. not only wouldnt it boot but blue recovery wouldnt apply the update.zip. i had to odin back to DJ01 stock.
Now i flashed the EB01 root/recovery/superclean and then flashed the red CWM-all.
I have two questions. Did my phone originally brick because i was supposed to flash a DL09 rom instead of DL30 rom? And now that i can get into red recovery directly, am i safe to flash whatever i want?
I assume that since i dont have to go through blue recovery, and i can go directly to red CWM, i should always be able to get into CWM and restore a backup if i hose my system right?

Wow, so in a matter of about an hour and 15 minutes you started three separate threads to ask the same question. OK.
I am counting 5.

wow in the matter of 15 minutes i started 1 post asking a question, saw a sticking saying post questions in another forum, and the started another thread in the appropriate forum.
your a douche.
So that accounts for two threads... What about the other three?

actually if you would pay attention that accounts for 4 threads. a thread asking why my phone wouldnt boot was posted in both General (then moved to Q&A) and Q&A, and the same thing goes for the thread asking what i could and could not flash, one was posted in Q&A and one was posted in General.
The 1 remaining question was specifically asking if red CWM was able to flash any rom since the thread i found the .tar file in said "this applies specifically to files found in this thread".
Anymore questions or are you just determined to be a smartass?

I rooted my phone with rage.bin and flashed the DL05/DL09 recovery.tar through odin.
When i went into recovery it was blue, so i picked flash update.zip and it went into orange CWM. When i did a data wipe i think it failed. it said "failed to unmount volume: /data", or something similar. I flashed trulyfascinating.zip anyways, a DL30 rom. i think that was the problem, i was supposed to flash a DL09 rom.
After i flashed the ROM my phone wouldnt go past the samsung screen, and eventually dumped me into blue recovery. when i tried to flash update.zip to go to clockworkmod it failed. i tried data wipe and it still wouldnt boot.
flashing the stock system and kernel via odin fixed the problem, but now i dont know for sure what went wrong and im a little afraid to flash anything in clockworkmod. plus the data wipe still fails.
Any help? What did i do wrong?
Don't flash the orange recovery, not fully compatible with current scripts for the Fascinate. Flash a red recovery.tar.

If you aren't then you might need a refresher on the general guide lines of forum etiquette.
1. All questions go in the Q&A section rolleyes
2. You do not need to post three threads all relating to the same subject
3. Title your topics accordingly
This helps us answer your questions faster and keeps things clean!
*edit*
It sounds like your process of rooting then using odin to revert to stock messed you up.
The odin package (as I have read) takes you back to a stock non rooted form. It is for the many times we all have soft-bricked our phones.
Search for a walk through on how to flash ROMS, there are plenty of them. That should face you in the right direction.

Had the same Problem, follow the walk through you were provided, and you can recover it. I don't understand why but when it did it to me, both times, the thing i found with Clockwork Orange is it wont mount dbdata, even if you reflash back to Clockwork Red. Probably something to do with edify and non edify, if that walk through is not accessible, try this, it is a little roughly written and i am going to fix it, but it should give you what you need to fix your brick. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746

Hey guys.
I've searched the forums for this issue, unfortunately it seems like mine is a little unique and I can't find a solution to my problem anywhere.
I'm stuck in CWM Recovery mode, and although I can navigate the menu... when pressing the Home key to select the various options, nothing happens besides the options blinking for a sec. I can access Odin Mode with Power/Volume +/- but that's it. Also it's worth noting that I'm unable to access my phone's files from my computer when in download mode (my guess is because the phone isn't set to USB storage mode which I have to do from the booted home screen, which... I can't access).
This happened after the first time entering Recovery mode on CWM, and although I have ROM Manager installed on my phone, after researching a little I found that was NOT what I wanted to use. And I did NOT use that program.. my CWM was flashed in from a .tar on Odin (the windows program). I also have a Jellybam folder placed in the phone, which was my next step.
How can I get out of CWM Recovery so that I can continue flashing the Jellybam ROM?
I apologize if I've missed anything. Please let me know if you need any other information. I'll be sure to hit the thank you button on every reply.
THANK YOU!
:crying:
um....
you are supposed to flash the ROM from CWM, so why would you want to get out of CWM to get back into CWM?
you havent mentioned what version of Android you were already running or what kernel you flashed, but have you tried using the POWER button to select things in CWM? Are you sure you used the right kernel? Are you sure you have an i777?
Hey Pirateghost, thanks for the reply! And yes, I was going into CWM Recovery to flash the ROM. The reason I wanted out of CWM was because it had no functionality... yes, I did try using the power button to select things. Seems the home button was it? In any case nothing worked. My version of Android was Gingerbread UCKH7, and I'm %100 sure it's an i777. By using the "right kernel" you mean the right version of Jellybam?
UPDATE: I got out of the bootloop by using a stock root UCKH7 kernel, bringing it in from Odin. Now I'm just trying to understand what went wrong and how I can continue to flash my Jellybam ROM in without any issues. I also found that my CWM app disappeared after I uninstalled ROM Manager after getting access back to my phone.

the kernel I installed for CWM was KH4 at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
After putting the KH7 stock root kernel in via Odin and getting out of the bootloop, I deleted ROM Manager off my phone and reflashed the KH4 kernel so I could get CWM. That worked fine, but now Superuser is crashing.

The kernel you just linked above is for the GT-I9100, not the SGH-I777. You seem to be moving forward without providing yourself with enough knowledge. If you are sure the phone is an I777 then stay away from the I9100 forums. Get what you need from here. There is lots of information in the guides linked in my signature. There is enough information there to guide you through everything you want to do.

You are flashing an older kernel on a newer ROM??? why? if you want to have CMW recovery you should flash your stock rom and then get the CWM .tar file and flash it in Odin. If you happen to get a .zip CWM file you can rename it to update.zip and flash it using your stock ROM's recovery options.
Search something along these lines: CWM5.8.1.8-i777.zip or recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxys2att.tar as examples

It's great having new folks around helping out.
This is bad information, however. 3e recovery will enforce signature verification on any update.zip, and it will fail.

always a pleasure to lend a hand. you're right it used to work on 2e I think, I was trying to signify the difference between the zip and tar, but thank you so much for the correction.
So should I be using a different kernel? I'm sorry I'm not quite sure what you're saying Commodore64, my head has been spinning from all this.

you should be using a kernel intended for your phone....your phone (if branded AT&T) is either an i727 skyrocket or i777. this is the i777 forum section. you appear to have flashed a kernel for an i9100...
just follow creepy's guides and do it the right way. there is nothing you can flash in STOCK recovery that will give you CWM or a new kernel (which on this phone CWM is packed with the kernel)

There is not just one answer, you can go back to one of the stock ROMs, like the ones provided by creepyncrawly threads.
There are a lot of threads on this and I don't have my I777 anymore but I used to do this:
1- Once you flashed a stock rom, go into recovery and cleanup. data/cache reset.
2- Have the files you want to flash on your phone. (if you format the SD card you will erase your files including the ones you want to flash!)
3- Use your .tar Odin CWM that worked for you before now to flash CWM.
4- Once in the CWM flash a newer CWM version (CWM6.0.1.0-i777.zip) since your ROM is based on CM/AOKP
5- After flash Go to Advanced and reboot recovery (this will reboot your phone now with the newer version of CWM)
6- Once in the newer CWM clean up again.
7- Don't reboot, have the correct version (latest or whatever) of your Custom ROM and install it now.
This is the general idea, if you don't know what you're doing read the threads in the development section, everything you need is there.
Educate yourself before you make your phone a crippled rabbit and scream for help.

this makes no sense, dude.
1. if he is on a stock rom, there is nothing CM/AOKP on his phone
2. on this device the recovery is packed with the kernel, flashing some other CWM doesnt really matter at all. none of this is necessary.
you can flash any kernel you want (made for this device) if you dont plan on booting the OS and only plan on flashing a rom...
you have now complicated an already easy method.
Hey everyone - just wanted to let you guys know that I am now running JellyBAM and so far everything seems fine.
Thank you all for your help, seriously. If anyone has any questions about what I did etc., just ask and I'll get back to ya.
Thanks! :good:
Glad to hear you got JellyBAM up and running xargis, and just to reiterate what pirateghost was saying, you won't get CWM by flashing a CWM.tar file lol, I don't even think one can be found for this model (SGH-i777) which is the device that I currently have, the ONLY way to get CWM onto this device is to flash the proper kernel for this device, but keep in mind that there is another factor to think about as well, depending on what type of custom rom you want to run there are different kernels out there that work best and offer different/better features for deployment into the custom rom for which you will be running, in other words some roms are kernel specific, you can only use certain kernels with CM10/AOKP/ParanoidAndroid based roms, and such is the same with only using certain kernels with Sammy based stock roms, so the choice is yours, hope this info was informative to you and that you definately find a good productive rom that you will be happy to play with and run, have fun with your i777 s2, that's one of the things this forum is all about!!
Tried posting this as a reply in a similar thread but I think the thread died so forgive me for double posting.
I rooted my stock S4 and installed the proper TWRP.
Heres where my situation is a bit different from anything I have seen on the forum threads. All attempts—both hard and soft—to reboot into recovery, all direct the reboot to Odin Mode. Just to clarify I have not flashed any rom custom or stock, the only thing I have flashed has been TWRP and CWM recovery. And I only flashed CWM AFTER the Failings of TWRP.
When I attempt to boot into recovery, it flashes the blue characters then sends me into a Odin Mode loop until I hard-key the "download mode" and select restart to boot the os normally.
my phone works fine other than not being able to flash custom roms, which is a pain in the arse especially with all the s4 Bloatware.
Here's what I have done so far to help myself:
• install CWM recovery
• tried hard-key reboot recovery (power off/ press home/volume up/power)
• soft reboot recovery through both Goo, CWM and ROM Toolbox pro
• removed my sd card and tried reboot recovery
• removed battery and reboot recovery
• emulator reboot recovery
• reboot recovery both with and without usb cable
I looked into flashing stock with Odin but all tutorials i could find were of an older version and I didnt want to guess what I needed to get that to work,
Please let me know if theres anything I can do.

you are probably on the ME7 build, which means no recovery is available,
Youre on me7 and you cant install custom recovery or custom roms while on me7, if you were reading other threads I dont know how you missed it because its been posted about a hundred times. You can use the buttom combo to boot into download mode and then cancel and your phone should boot normally. Everytime you try to go into recovery youre going to get put into download mode so eventually youre going to have to flash the me7 stock image or flash stock recovery, recovery I dont have a link for but the stock images are posted in the dev section.

I missed it because I didn't think it would be a build version issue I thought it was user error (which I guess it is) but my searches were conducted with that ignorance, we all have to start somewhere.
So If I understand you correctly now that I have installed a custom recovery (that doesn't work with ME7), I will now have to find and flash the stock recovery in order to flash a custom recovery if and when one is available for ME7?

Youre right we all have to start somewhere, chalk it up as a learning experience. When I say flashing the stock recovery im just saying it so youll have a recovery period. When one comes out for me7 tho having a stock recovery prior shouldnt be mandatory. I do recommend having the stock recovery tho

Yeah not having a stock recovery is a bit sketch, Ill have to find and flash it soon.
If you cant find it and have apps/data u dont want to lose there is a no wipe me7 stock image you can flash to get it back as well. I did see the stock recoveries posted before but I for the life of me cant find them again.

Yes please post a link to the stock recovery if you find it I just did the exact same thing and missed the fact that the VRUME7 won't work with custom recoveries. Didn't help that I was trying a post that said it would from GalaxyS4Root.com and when it didn't work I tried a workaround using adb to force it. I'm new to this like you and now I know better too, well at least I hope. Also once any of us finds an image of the stock recovery would I just use ODIN to flash it from my pc or would I have to use some other method? I know I know most likely a stupid question but I rather get a chuckle on here then screw this up even more. I will post a link too if I find a stock recovery image. Thanks again.

I'm not certain if this helps at all but I just found this thread about safestrap for VRUAME7 and it's only a few days old as well as being older than your last posts. I see your post count and realize you cannot post in the development section yet. that should not however stop you from reading. maybe you have but you may not have read the whole thread. i know that may seem like a daunting task, it is for me. so what I o is go to the most recent post or last page and start reading backwards. that way I get the most up to date information even on an older thread as you are referring to.
if you did that you would have seen a post from AGOATTAMER.
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-i717-roms/how-to-root-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-icsgingerbreadeasiest-method/
this is also the method I used. believe me, if I can pull it off, anybody can.
more tips..............
make sure you have all the files you need
rehearse the process
I know it sounds crazy, but these phones aint cheap and if you mess it up, can be pretty screwed.
so what is more valuable???? your phone or acting crazy and talking to yourself for a few minutes.
if you can still get download mode, your good, no brick
good luck
You flashed an older incompatible kernel with a newer ROM, but I guess you know that now. Flash the stock ROM found here using odin.
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/213010140/75bf7e2/I717RUXMD1_I717RRWCMD1_RWC.zip.html
Go into recovery after install and do a factory reset. Then start over. Many have used the link that captemo has mentioned. There are newer versions of recovery than the one listed on that site but it will get you rooted. Look at this thread also. Since you are installing the stock ROM via odin you will not have to deal with the script mentioned here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485336
Just flash twrp with Odin, don't reboot into android, not directly into recovery after the flash finishes...
In recovery wipe data/factory reset.
When you go to boot it'll see you're not rooted and ask if you want to.
The easiest method to root.

OK, made a dumb mistake. Not a frequent poster so I had to post here rather than in the thread where it belongs:

[ROM]KOT49H【4.4.4】AOSP Official Google Edition 【Verizon!】06-25-2014
Basically, I didn't re-flash loki-doki. I had 4.4.2 running and had re-flashed 4.4.3 but somehow thought that I could reboot and then re-enter recovery to re-flash loki rather than doing it all at once. Dumb move. So now I have a perfectly good 4.4.3 load, but I can't enter recovery to do anything else. I want to flash the 4.4.4 image, but anytime I try to get into recovery I get the "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless / Yellow Triangle" message.
I know I can Odin back to a stock image, but is there an easy way to force into recovery to flash loki-doki? Tried Flashify per another users post but that doesn't get me anywhere. Have not tried Triangle Away, because I didn't think that would cure my issue. The answer may be to re-flash, but I wanted to see if there was an easy way first. Running MDK btw....

I am far from an expert but I think you are on the right track with having to do Odin.
I haven't used loki-doki before but after doing some reading the requirement is a working custom recovery.
This may be a dumb question but did you try to re-install something like CWM?

Try unzipping whatever recovery it is you want to use and then use Flashify to " flash recovery image " and locate the Recovery. IMG you got from unzipping earlier.
Also I would run Tri Angle Away too.
If using that method to get you're recovery back doesn't help... Then yes Odin it is.

Thanks all. I use twrp, and have tried reflashing it, but nothing let's me reboot into recovery without the situation described above. My fault, so looks like back to square one I go...

Are you just trying to get into recovery from the ROM? Or from a battery pull and phone off? Sometimes getting into it from the ROM can get borked but the other method works in which case flashing the ROM again should fix that. Again I'd also use Tri Angle Away

Trying from inside the ROM. I've got a fully functioning 4.4.3, but I'm locked out of getting into Recovery....
Chad
Flashify can't even get me into Recovery...
Thanks all, I ODIN'd back to stock and worked it all the way back forward to 4.4.4. Appreciate the help.

I hate digging up old threads especially when Hijacking them. But I wanted to say thanks for the information you provided. It helped a lot and got me back into recovery (TWRP 2.8.1.1). Now the real fun begins. I have not had this phone in my possession for quite some time (November 2013). Anyway, I was tasked with bringing it up to date and I might need some further assistance. If so, I'll start my own topic in this sub forum.
Thanks again @Mistertac.
