What makes you think that the buttons lighting up makes you lose more battery?

Cause I would imagine that it still uses battery....where else could it drawer power from?

the amount of battery it uses would probably be REALLY low and not high enough to notice.
When you turn your screen on to check the time for 2 secs that uses more battery than if you leave those lights alone and on for a hour or something.(inaccurate)
Dont worry about it, and it DOES turn off for you right?
mine blinks a few times, and turns off and blinks later.

Looking at the bln control appointment, it states that blinking will take considerably more power than just keeping the lights turned on.

More than likely because a program has to run that tells the LEDs when to turn on and off. LEDs don't use much power at all, so the power saved is moot because of the program that would need to be run in the background using CPU cycles.

That said bln uses a relatively insignificant amount of battery life, even with blinking, i maybe get 10-20 minutes less battery life over the course of a day as a result of bln. imo worth it for the added functionality.
also i dont think its possible to light up individual buttons, if im not mistaken the capacitive buttons are lit by a single led, which is why on some phones you notice that the menu and search keys are slightly dimmer than the home and back keys

have you noticed that when you press a capacitive button, it turns off to signify that you pressed it. Which leads me to believe that it is possible. I would imagine much harder to program though.

You sir, know not what you're talking about. Neldar, the person who originally got bln working, has stated that if the leds aare left on constantly, that it would only consume up to 2% of your total battery over a full charge.
But to flat out say "bln consumes a lot of power" as a statement of fact, then say it uses 5% per hour I estimate" as pure guess work is just rediculous. What have you tested to arrive at your conclusion? What are your variables, and what is your control?

I was wondering the same thing. But not about battery life, because lets face it, we have power hungry android devices. But for different notifications. Menu key for SMS, home key for Gmail, back key for gtalk, search key for missed call, all for voice mail. Just my .2.

the reason you can't do the individual buttons is because it would require a lot of reverse engineering the button binaries. And the reward is not nearly worth the work involved in it.

Makes perfect sense. I just like the fact that we can have bln in lieu of an actual notification led.
And I think devs and themers pretty much have the same attitude as far as the whole work vs. payoff thing is concerned.

Test it yourself. It's not guess work, I've tested it multiple times by sending a text to myself when I go to bed to leave the bln lit while I sleep. 4 hours was approximately 20% drain...with bln off 4 hours approximately 7% drain.
Edit: no wifi, data off also. Phone set exactly the same.

MY sugestion USE noLED app it shuts off your soft buttons so they wont light up and noLED is way cooler PP
from what i've read from neldar himself (the guy the introduced the bln code, and created the bln settings app, and using the pro version you can control blinking, schedule when the bln on is implemented and when it isn't, etc), he's seen it only uses 0.85% of your total battery.

you guys are so paranoid about 1-3% battery life.
I'm using CM7, and i have bln set to always on (as flashing bln eats up more battery, plus the normal Cm7 stuf doesn't support blinking bln). I get ~45 hours of battery life. For those that think bln eats up battery, it's only placebo effect.

CM7 hasn't had any added in blinking support since about April. There is one kernel that doesn't use LEDNotify, but rather the actual bln code. But I will have my led lights on for hours at a time, sometimes the entire night, and I still get nice battery life.
As for Samsung roms, I compared both blinking and non blinking, and tlfor me the difference was negligiable (sp?).
But seriously, stop worry about these stupid 1-2% and enjoy your phone.

^ the question was posed before people KNEW how much of a % it took, lets not be harsh. Not sure how you are getting near 2 days of battery life. I assume you mean if you just leave it sitting... not a very good indicator for real life. I think 10 hours is more like it.
I've been using BLN control pro with bi-winning for a month or two now and have noticed no difference in battery beyond normal variance.
I prefer BLN to noLED because I was never able to get noLED to work consistently.

[Q] Notification LED Blinking rate

Hi guys,
In my opinion, the notification LED blinks way too slow in Atrix... I used "Blink" application from the market when i had Froyo to change that but it doesn't work in Gingerbread
Does anyone know how to change that notification LED blink rate for received SMSs? Any working applications or configurations?
Thanks in advance

The flashing speed for lightflow "fast" is the same as Gingerbread stock notification, i need it much faster since i always leave my phone in silence mode when i am at work...
Any other options?

I fear always on may burn the LED...
I had a much faster rate with "Blink", but it doesn't work with Gingerbread... It was about two times faster!
What about Handcent? I know you can adjust the blink rate on notifications as a whole or per contact...
I was looking for a way to control LED colors. Thanks for the tip in LightFlow. Just set it up and it works great! Now when I see green I know what the notification is versus before it could be anything.

Never used blink so wouldn't know... and well... I highly doubt the led will burn out... they tend to have very long lives... if it burns I would prob say just really bad luck... its not a bulb afterall, its a LED... Not to mention the BLN app which is used on the galaxy s and galaxy s2 for the backlight leds of the softkeys to come on for notifications is based off that due to lack of any actual notification LED...
But its your call... I would just say look around for if keeping those leds on constantly will cause any harm... if not... go for it...

[Q] What are you using for notifications due to no LED light?

After using a BlackBerry for years, I am really bothered by not having a LED notification light.
I have seen posts about noled and bln, but would like some opinions
I would like a recommendation for an non-rooted phone. I am also concerned about battery life.

we could do what IOS5 does, they use the LED flash to let people know a notification is pending..

None if you care about battery.
NoLED turns on the screen and I believe also inhibits deep sleep - it'll eat battery like crazy.
BLN isn't implemented for our phones yet - I tried porting a patch for the I9100 kernels but I screwed something up, if the notification light is on, the code holds a wakelock that prevents deep sleep. As a result, that BLN implementation ate battery too. I'm hoping to eventually get it working sanely, but it's much lower on my priorities list now.

I can say, that for me, this is a big deal. I almost switched to another carrier's S2 because of it. After reading the reviews, I'm glad I didn't.
This is a great phone. Battery was a concern, but after a few battery cycles and turning wifi off, it now kicks ass for such a powerful phone.
The LEd notification light would have made it the perfect phone...lol

Hopefully eventually we'll get BLN that's stable AND doesn't wakelock the phone - but I am thinking that right now the reason it's stable is because it isn't holding excessive wakelocks.

Since noled turns the screen on, but bln doesn't, and they both inhibit deep sleep, wouldn't even this flawed BLN implementation be better than NoLed for those who really need some sort of notification light?
Its weird how this phone needs a custom kernel for BLN. The Thrill I returned had an app in the market that worked for BLN, all it needed was root. It was sweet too: you could choose different blinking combos for different notifications.
I can't complain though, this phone more than makes up for that in so many other ways. Its just a matter of time before we have it. Plus this phone has the built in option to keep those on with the screen. I was so excited when I saw that.

Hmm... I'll consider it, user clue-factor and reading comprehension HAS been better than I expected based on my past experience with the Infuse. (I was expecting to have a bunch of overclock instability reports despite the giant red text, like a bunch of Infuse ROM devs had. But I haven't and as a result haven't had to yank OC from the kernel.
Maybe tomorrow... Too late for tonight's release, that's in testing.

Ive been using NoLED from the beginning and my battery life is outstanding. I guess results may vary.

Tips to get GREAT Battery life on the Rezound!

If you or anyone else wants to get PHENOMENAL battery life of let's say 15 hours of use and still have 40%-50% battery left on a regular stock battery on the Rezound, just follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings - Power - Power mode Choose "Economy"
2. Back at Power options, Click on "Economy mode setting" I left the setting as "Normal" which means that the only box that was unchecked was "Disable background data"
3. Back at Settings, Click on "Accounts & sync" Uncheck the "Auto-Sync" box, but leave the "Background data" box checked.
4. Using whatever Screen Brightness tool you want to, set the screen brightness to no more than 20%. The only exception to this is if you are out in the sun and really need to see your screen while in the sun (navigation or etc...). Other than that, I never need it to be brighter than 20%.
5. Because of these changes, you will have to manually "Refresh" your email app to check for new mail. Other than that, everything data wise should work as normal.
I always have my 4G LTE and GPS on and ever since I did this, I have been getting RIDICULOUS battery life! This best it has been is when I charged it completely and unplugged it at 10pm and the next day around 1pm I still had 62% battery left. On a normal basis where I take it off the charger at 8am, with normal use (3 hrs of music, 1 or 2 of web surfing and video watching, 1 hour of phone calls, and Google Talk and Google Voice and GMail all day *literally*) I have about 50% battery left at 7pm.
Disclaimer: I have "Bump Charged" my battery before making these changes. However, I never saw this type of battery life until I made the above changes. Also, if you constantly watch video (Youtube or etc..) you will not see quite this performance, but it will still be much better than what you are currently experiencing.
Enjoy
Turn off data and you can get multiple days on battery
Screen Filter
You can also use the app Screen Filter to turn off the bottom row of leds.

So you have an extended battery then? If so, might be good to include that info in your post just to be clear. Not that that wouldn't help any battery, but the stats will make more sense and the answers to your poll may be more accurate since people might think their results aren't as good as yours if they're using a regular battery.
I'll change my settings and try it since I don't need instant notification of emails atm. Thanks for the tip.

You can bump charge the normal battery as well.
So what exactly do the power modes do? Are they just presets for certain settings? or do they control CPU scaling or anything else? I've always just left mine on normal with auto sleep enabled
Edit: I also wonder what affect the "auto start task manager on startup" option does exactly, and if having that on improves battery life, or if it is referring to the task manager in the notification bar quick settings

I used that app for quite sometime on my Incredible when I ran a sense rom (cm7 allowed me to set the buttons leds off on its own).
Fyi though, when screen filter is active, I am unable to install an app. When you go to install an app, and you are on the screen that shows the permissions with the install button on the lower right, I have been unable to click the install button with screen filter running. I just run screen filter again to deactivate it and the install goes fine, then I just run screen filter again to get it running again.
It's a hassle, but a small price to pay to get those led's off if you dont want / need them.

Beginning to think the biggest hindrance to good battery life for me is poor signal strength at work in the hospital. Here's a screen shot for me today at home and running around so a combo of wifi and good 4g. Extended battery.

Tap the graph and it shows a bar that shows signal strength over time. That would help to figure it out.
I just use the extended battery and have everything set to high performance and can easily get though the day. Good tips though.

Does CM7 LED Notifications drain the battery?

Coming from the Captivate, I know that the SGS2 has some issues with BLN draining battery. I run CM7, however. Do the LED Notifications also hold a battery-draining wakelock for the SGS2?
On cm7 you can set how long the notification lights stay on. Plus they do not use too much battery since the are OK n, now if they blinked on/off for the whole time it wojld probably drain further. I have mine set to timeout after 30 minutes.

I'm 90% certain the CM7 implementation also holds wakelocks when the LED is on

Yes you are correct. I was just stating that you can set a timeout on the backlights which turns off the wake lock i believe. At least the lights turn off. You can set the notification lights to NEVER, 5,10,15,30, or 60 minutes. I have mine set to 30 and havent noticed an issue with drain. Most my drain comes from when I am actually using the device.

There are settings in CM7 for it, on some stock-derived ROMs there is BLN support.
It makes the touchkey lights stay on when there is an active notification - but the way it is implemented causes significant battery drain and no one has figured out a way to safely implement it without causing drain.
