Wallpaper stretching? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Fresh new dell streak, flashed streakdroid 1.9.
Now when I try to set any picture as wallpaper, it seems like it is zoomed in, destroying any high-res detail. Did I do something wrong? How should I go about fixing this? It is SUPER annoying.

Questions...
1. What are the dimensions of the wallpaper?
2. When you set the image as wallpaper, there should be an orange box on the screen. Using the multi-touch capabilities of the screen, did you expand the size of the orange box to contain the entire picture?

it happens using any wallpaper, both default and downloaded. The downloaded one im using is 1600ish x 1000ish. Yea, I use the box to get the entire image for my wallpaper, but still no luck. It still seems to show a zoomed image no matter what.

The resolution should be 960 x 800. At the resolution you're using, the picture will look horrible because the phone has to downsize the image to fit the screen. This leads to jaggies and moire effects on the screen.
Get a photo editor and downsize your image to 960 x 800, then load it as wallpaper.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: As an example, I use a cropped version of the following image:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The version displayed here is a low quality version. The original image is 14MB in size with a resolution of 2486 x 1914. While I could have downsized the image as is to something pretty respectible on the Streak, I discovered that on a 5" screen the sun would be rather small. That didn't appeal to me, so in order to see the sun, I cropped the image in Photoshop CS5 so it was smaller with the details I wanted, namely the sun, the blue glow, and the foreground.
From there I used Photoshop's Image Size and Canvas Size functions to get the final image, seen below as an attachment.
Now, you were complaining about a loss of resolution earlier. Unfortunately, the Streak doesn't have the same color resolution as my netbook does, and the two of them cost the same amount of money. Load my wallpaper into your phone and you will see distinct banding within the blue glow. This is because the phone doesn't have 32-bit color depth like a standard computer monitor. There's nothing that can be done with that to the best of my knowledge. But by resizing the image so the Streak doesn't have to downsample the image itself, you can make the image look a lot more presentable.

Ahh, that was it. The default wallpapers are all sized wrong. Thanks!!

If you want to properly thank me, hit the "Thanks" button.
But, you're welcome.

download flikie from android market. Move the wallpaper you want to set to flikie folder on your sd card. open flikie and click on the wallpaper and set it as a background without stretching it

it is from the N73 and idk why i love it but its my fav... does anyone know where i could download a version i could use on my galaxy s 2? I would love thanks! thanks
EDIT**
found the file:
just not good quality when applied to my phone, is there a way to fix the resolution? Im not good with photo editing
How picky are you about how it looks? I can't do anything about the original, but 5 mins in photoshop should produce a very close replica.

that would be sweet
Edit: Ok, here is the 800x480 version of the picture. The caveat is that I can not get it to display properly on my phone. Under the select wallpaper screen it fits perfectly, but then it shows up funky when you look at the actual home screen.
Edit 2: Use this version, but do not crop out the black. For some reason it is only displaying 1/2 of the image, so by adding extra it displays the whole wallpaper cleanly.
Edit 3: If you need a scrollable version let me know.

THANKS! now if only i could get the icons, your the best!
In the main Android forum there is a massive thread full of icon sets. I suggest looking there. You probably won't find something identical, but you may find something similar.

Wallpaper thread: post 'em if ya got 'em

I seem to have a hard time finding good qhd wallpapers so I figure other Mopher's out there might have some. Share away!
I keep bouncing between these:

if you go to Zedge.com you'll find a bunch of qHD walls..
I find Zedge doesnt give alot of wallpapers for the Photon then they do for other phones. On my buddies Galaxy S 2 it comes up with thousands of wallpapers in there. But on my photon, it only comes back with under 2,000. Alot less then his phone.

Try wallbase, I checked it out a couple of weeks ago and its got some cool ones
I've been addicted to the "Nexus Revamped" live wallpaper, free in the Market (Play Store), but I keep a nice collection of wallpapers on hand, and I add to it every now and then.
Best way to find wallpaper, I've found, is go to Google Images and plug in our phone's resolution -- 540x960 -- into the custom size prompt, and re-run the search. Just put in what you want in your wallpaper. Use broad terms, like forest, ocean, fantasy, etc. Or just search wallpaper. If you have a color in mind you can refine by that, as well.
Or, as somebody said above, Wallbase (or a similar wallpaper site). You can use something like XnView (on the PC) to crop a desktop wallpaper down. Either set the crop aspect ratio to 16:9 (I think!) and crop what you want, then resize, or cut out a 540x960 piece from the wallpaper -- the latter option is less than desirable in most cases, though. If you guys are interested, I can upload a bunch later, make an Imgur album or something. (Is there a preferred image host that doesn't downsample images that is also free?)
//edit: Here it is, if anybody wants it. Now, I didn't make any of these, just collected them from wherever. The 2nd and 3rd ones are from a wallpaper, I cropped them out. [Link]

[Q] Bad Display?

So I've had a Galaxy 10.1 and now the transformer prime. While I wasn't able to compare them side by side, it seems like the readability of the galaxy was better. On the prime there seems to be some stray pixels around next making it hard to read. I've attached a screenshot. If you zoom in, you can see on every S, P, O, etc, a couple pixels illuminated below the letter. Is this what everyone is seeing?
Edit: In order to attach full size screenshot, I had to upload the png as a zip. So download and change extension to png.
Is it possible to upload a screenshot in the native resolution of the Prime? (1280x800) because in this tiny picture it isn't visible I guess.

Uploaded the PNG as a zip. Just change the extension when you download it.
Yeah, if you're trying to find out if the screen is bad...
Please take a picture of your screen.
A screenshot is only giving us what the s/w is displaying (that is, your shot shows nothing), you're asking about a display hardware issue.
*EDIT:
Here's his screenshot.
Looks no different than mine, except I use large font...

Ok, so I guess my question is changing...is the software dorked up and causing the problem? I'm guessing that everyone's will look similar to the problems that I'm seeing. Its just strange in that the reviews for the screen on the prime have been very complementary.
Are you just referring to the gray pixels at the bottoms of "curved" letters?
That's just going to be the choice in font and how it's handling rounding our corners using pixels.
Through the Prime's actual display it's not even noticeable, only through rasterized images like these... To me at least...
You'll definitely notice differences in text between a Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Honeycomb and a Prime running ICS. Google completely changed the system font in ICS and while I find text to be overall smoother in ICS, it does have some instances where it's not as "sharp" (due to the anti-aliasing they're using to make it look smoother).
It looks fine to me, try looking on a different computer and see if the issue is still present. My first prime had band of pink and green and even the screenshot i uploaded looked like what i was seeing however i was reading my post on my pc and there was no issue present. It was a gpu issue with my prime.
Take a picture with a camera thats what i did.

XPERIA Z Default Wallpaper [Multi-Pack]

As the title says, this is default XPERIA Z wallpaper (you probably know that it leaked few days ago).
Beside original file, there is complete set of resized versions, to fit different XPERIA 2010/2011/2012 screen sizes, as well as different desktop displays and aspect ratios.
I tried to maintain the quality at highest level, with saving resized versions in PNG format (have in mind that original file is in jpg, so there would be additional loss of quality if saved again in jpg after resizing).
Resolutions included:
Phones / 480x320 / 640x480 / 960x854 / 1080x960 / 1440x1280 /
Desktop / 1440x900 / 1600x1200 / 1680x1050 / 1920x1080 / 1920x1200 / 2560x1440 / 2560x1600
Enjoy.

can you increase the contrast of this wallpaper a little bit? I find the default one to be quite pale in color.

I just tested it, and it's working fine.
Maybe it was some temporary BOX server error.

This is the farthest I could go with contrast.

As, with any greater contrast, there are ugly bendings (visible color transitions) appearing on highlighted bottom part. Also, you didn't mention what wallpaper size you're interested in exactly, so I just changed contrast on source wallpaper.

Awesome app. For the moment i use it, thanks. But the problem remains unsolved because the wallpaper doesn't move. I wonder, what's the resolution of the stock wallpapers that perfectly fits the screen?

The full scale H x V dimensions for Sony Tablet S and Xperia Tablet S ICS wallpaper images is 1920 x 1280 pixels, but the images must be cropped if they are to be displayed correctly.
Sony explains how to select and crop a wallpaper image in ICS HERE. To the best of my knowledge, Sony has not yet released a video showing how to crop an image in ICS, however, they do show how to crop an image in HC in this VIDEO located at YouTube's web site. Cropping a wallpaper image in ICS is done pretty much the same way as it was in HC.
I provided a wallpaper image template and explained the pixel dimensions and viewable areas of wallpaper images HERE. I hope you find the template and information useful.
I make my own wallpaper images using an image editing program on my PC then copy them to my tablet into a folder I created and named /sdcard/Pictures/Wallpapers. Any images stored in the tablet's /sdcard/Pictures folder and its subfolders can be previewed and chosen via the "Gallery" selection on the "Choose wallpaper from" pop-up that appears whenever you long-press on any blank area near the center of the tablet's screen. You can also get to the "Gallery" selection via Settings > Display > Wallpaper.
Of course, you could always download and install wallpaper apps, but most of them are advertisement based and they never provided the control you can have by making your own wallpaper images and cropping them yourself.
I hope you find my reply helpful.
