[Q]Can Archos 70 use USB Mouse? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've try with my CA-157 usb host cable to connect my usb Mouse, but the mouse show that have power but Archos seems nothing show up.
How can I test my mouse with Archos?
*my mouse is work on my PC.

Thats because the archos only can give a little bit of energy to usb host devices
Maybe you can test with an pc program how much energy your mouse need?

That program displays the USB device connected to a PC, but it doesn't show how much current the USB device is drawing, does it? I'm interested to know if there are PC programs to tell you how much current an USB device is drawing, as you said in your earlier reply :

If you plug the device into a windows PC (I'm on XP so apologies if this is not up to date) and look at the device manager/USB devices, one of the tabs on the properties sheet (power) will tell you how much current the device is drawing.
The USB mouse I have plugged in is drawing 100mA which is right on the limit for the A70. Of course you can always work through a powered hub but it's all extra cables!

Maybe you have the Usb Host Failure? Search here at forum

Yes, a USB mouse (and keyboard as well) did work on my A70s once I put it through a powered hub.
The specific one I used was a cheap Dtech DT-4012 which has an 700mA internal battery with a wimpy solar charger (but no jack for external power).
The keyboard works as expected and you will suddently get a conventional mouse pointer on the screen when the mouse is working. This of course is real handy when trying to use a tablet with an external display through the HDMI port.
Note that I could NOT get this to work with Belkin F5U404 powered hub or a very generic 7-port powered hub I bought some time ago that seems more interested in providing a flashing multicolored light show than being a powered hub. I'm thinking this might be because these hubs somehow don't tell the USB port on the A70s to switch from an "OTG" (client-mode) USB port to a "Host"-mode port. Anyone know how to manually switch modes (such as in poking something in /sys somewhere?). Something like this had to be done on a Nokia N810 (which I still have one), so maybe I'll check and see how it was done.

... i tested a while ago and it didn't real worked how i wanted it to work

How to creat a USB port for the Transformers do not dock ?

I don't buy Transformers enclosed dock so I could try to create a USB host port for the machine. I use two USB host connected to each other (as shown) with the correct wire colors including red, black, blue and white.
However, it does not work, exactly what the machine does not respond when the USB plug. I thought maybe it needs a 5V source to power USB operation, but do not know how.
Who can help me this? Thanks.
Did you try an USB3 Female-to-Female adaptor?
I am pretty sure it uses different pins for dock. Also, I have a feeling that USB host hardware is located in the keyboard, because when dock is detached I only see 1 USB port in console, instead of 3. However, it's probably possible to somehow switch that port to a host mode.
Added: Nwm, lsusb works a bit different than on desktop linux. It only shows host port when something is attached to it. So, there are 4 USBs on transformer. 1 usb client, and 3 hosts.(probably a usb hub in the keyboard) So, it looks like there is host on the tablet itself, just need to find the correct pins.

I don't know the female-to-female USB, but I think that I am creating is it.
I think the problem lies in the cord is too long may not get external USB device. Is there a way to grant more power to it?

-_- The problems lies in the fact that it's not a USB HOST.

Yeah, to be quite honest Asus completely blows as far as hardware support for this product is concerned. It's hard enough trying to find a REPLACEMENT charger let alone hold out hope of aftermarket accessories.
And the adapter looks huge. I prefer a cable.

Are you sure? There are a lot of signal wires in the 40 pin cable. It makes more sense if there is at least one host among some of those wires. If we grab power off the three + power lines in the 40 pin proprietary plug we could drive a small hub.
I was hoping to see some of these (hundreds available from dealextreme.com) modded for the tablet.

Wait too long accessories. Testing this stuff is very interesting though unsuccessful, hehe. I'm looking for a USB host power supply itself to see why. Hope everything good change.

Yes, there is definitely a USB host on that 40 pin connector, but the way OP connected cable won't work because that connector on the cable only connects to the USB client. In other words, it uses wrong pins.
I'd offer some help but the forum rules state your post has to be in English.

Controllers/Joypads?

OnLive recently came to Android and a number of games require a controller. I tested OnLive and it ran fine, I just need a controller.
Is there any way to use a USB/etc controller on a NT? Or like the Sixaxis or 360 controller.
Without bluetooth (which the nook tablet doesn't offer) using a wireless controller is gonna be difficult.
Maybe a wired one might work but I'm not sure if you're gonna find one that will connect to the nook tablet.
Gotta say though, I've tried some of the on live games that work without the controller and they play really well. If there IS a way to add a controller- this could really step up tablet gaming quite a bit.
How about a keyboard? Is it possible to hook up a keyboard to the NT?

Yes, technically. You need a custom rom installed though with bluetooth activated. But even then the range is very small. But ive never needed to use a keyboard from far away with my nook. Also, some work better than others. Hope this helps.
I really want to plug a keyboard to NT after I installed Quake 1,2,3. It's so smooth but I can never play it!! Like standing in front of a game shop
I thought ROM edits were locked on the NT? Or something was still locked.
But you can enable Bluetooth on the NT? I hadn't heard about that.

While there appears to be a Bluetooth capable chip in the NT, it has yet to be determined whether or not we will be able to enable it -- with or without custom kernals.

A standard micro usb cord from my samsung captivate fits it as a data cable, not a full charger granted but should charge it when turned off, the 12 pin is to charge it while in use so it would work if the nook can host usb

Working USB Host on HoneyComb!!!

As some of you know, I could get USB host to work on the release candidate of HoneyComb but not on the final release (3.55.405).
This morning I thought I would try again, my flyer was turned off (completely shut down) when I plugged in my portable hard drive (Seagate 120 gig using the Y cable one to a power supply the other to a USB micro USB adaptor).
I then booted up the Flyer … low and behold there it was. Shows up as USB in Astro but, does not show in Root Explorer.
I was able to watch my movies and play my music from the hard drive.
It seems like the flyer with latest HoneyComb will only see USB peripherals at boot time.
Great news!
If you care to try some other configurations, I'd love to get your results when using a usb keyboard or mouse?

It works perfectly fine without rebooting. The only thing is that you have to umnount before unplugging. It worked for me even with one 1TB Harddisc.

Edit: just tried again and won’t work for me unless I boot with it plugged in. Also, booting takes a longer than normal time.

I don´t use a custom rom I use the HC stock rom. You have to have the "/mnt/sdcard/usb/" folder. If you don´t have it, create it. I use only as I mentioned a 1 TB Harddisk and I used also two different kind of 8GB USB Flashdrives with a Y-Cable with external powersupply and a Nokia OTG Cable.
They work all perfectly fine. Only I had to unmount the devices before I unplugged otherwise I needed to reboot as well for a another usb device.
I didn´t try any other peripherals.
I am not a "tecfreak", just an average user who likes to tinker and mess around with his gadgets. If you have any further question I can help you with, Please ask.
P.S.: before I used the Nokia Cable, I used another Micro USB Male to USB A Female Cable and that didn´t work, so If it doesn´t work for you than it might be caused by the wrong cable. ????

Been doing some more testing … I noticed (when using the Y cable on my drive) that when I power up the hard drive the charging light on the Flyer comes on.
So, somehow power is back feeding to the OTG cable.
This leads me to believe that it may work better (like Elfuente stated) with a different cable.
Perhaps the Nokia cable does not have the charging pins
Ps: I noticed that on my Y cable … one is labeled Power+Data the other is labeled Power
I had a rather long message typed about this but the browser crashed, I'll possibly retype most of that later, but for now suffice to say that cables are singnificant in these setups.

Ahhh there you are I was hoping you would show up. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be you. Do I smell another hardware hack?
Keeping in mind my abilities in this field are very limited but, I was thinking … if I could come up with a battery pack for a portable hard drive I could (with the proper cables) then just plug it in and have the ability to read and write to it.
Maybe another hack for an adapter to provide power from a battery with usb connector or mains usb charger but it should actually be fairly trivial to implement, so maybe a schematic also for anyone who is remotely comfortable with soldering.
The big difference between OTG and other usb modes is that pin 5 is electrically significant. When grounded it indicates to an otg capable device that it should go to OTG-A mode (OTG equivalent of host mode), when floating it's ignored and the device will not detect a connected device.

That´s exactly what I do. I travel a lot and was used to carry a netbook with me. Now I changed to the Flyer and use the external 1TB Harddisc with a BatteryPack as external powersupply (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B003ZV1A1Y).

I ordered one of the Nokia cables and if it works for me.
I’ll then take both apart (drive and battery) and mill up a case to mount both of them in.

and by the way, the disc has to be formated wit fat32.

[Q] would this keyboard work?

I've got my TP running CM9 alpha 2. I've always considered getting a keyboard for the TP to take notes in class.
Just saw one of these mini keywords at work:
http://m.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4522373&CatId=142
I know its USB but would it be possible to use a USB to micro USB adapter and get the necessary drivers loaded onto the pad to use it?
Idk of any Bluetooth keyboards as small as the one I linked but if there are, are there any that will work with the TP?
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
You would need a powered USB hub to get it to work. I have the bt kb from HP and its awesome. I think it's cheaper too.

Sounds like we've got different priorities. The HP bt kb is pretty small, butb big enough to type on. It's the same size as my 15" laptop kb, so I can still touch type. Smaller than that, and it gets difficult to bang out anything more than a sentence or 2 IMO. Mine would easily fit in a backpack. It's only about a quarter inch thick, except where the batteries go...there it's almost an inch. And the LxW is about 14X4.5 or 5 maybe. I don't have a measuring tape or ruler here.
Gotcha.
Ya im just looking for something down and dirty so to speak haha. Idk if I want to pay $40 for the one i listed, so ill keep my eyes open and keep the HP one in mind as well

Sweet, great video and love that you put links with Amazon Prime eligible stuff which I just ordered. Does the Touchpad charge with this method if there is enough current on the 5v line?
I have a Logitech USB gaming controller, I'll have to see if CM9 recognizes it (I believe its HID) and see if I can map its keys in an emulator. Also I imagine one could buy or make a portable USB power supply so this thing is mobile. When near and outlet the OEM HP charger would supply plenty of current (2A) for multiple USB devices. Its regulated so it will put out 5v even at low loads. Keyboards and mice are rated at only 100mA. I don't see why you couldn't hook both a keyboard and mouse into an unpowered USB hub if you are using the HP charger as your main source of USB power for the OTG adapter.

Unfortunately, it does NOT charge off of this. I really wish it did.
Got my two cables in the mail today.
It works great with keyboards and mice, unfortunately it doesn't recognize my Logitech USB gaming controller. I tried a powered USB hub instead of the Y cable and all it did was charge the TP using the USB hub's power and no USB devices worked.
I then tried using a non-powered HUB connected on the Y cable using the HP charger as a power supply. It allowed me to use a keyboard and mouse simultaneously. So if you want to use more than 1 device get a non powered USB hub. Just make sure your power supply has enough current for all the USB devices. USB keyboards and mice only draw 0.1A so the 2A HP charger is plenty.
Why is nobody selling a unit with all of this built in? A little box with a rechargeable battery built in, an output for OTG microUSB and a few input USB ports.

I wounder if any one is interesting ? arduino
