[Q] Help: Update.pkg - Screen blank - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on 318 Stock ROM that came with the device.
I downloaded the 345 package that is given on the Streak Wiki page. I renamed it to Update.pkg and put it into root of my SD card.
I switched off and switched on using Power+Volume up+Volume down and selected the apply update.pkg option.
The device screen went blank and has been blank since some time now.
What do I do? Am I bricked?

disconnect the usb cable and pull the battery. Try reflashing the 318/345 recovery on the wiki and try again. I went through that all today on mine as well when I was flashing different versions.
318 recovery then flash 345 update.pkg worked fine.

[Q]Factory Reset Loop ... Blank screen after Update.pkg

well i have a version 347 build no 15274 and i tried to root it and then it got stuck at the dell logo so i did a factory reset and that didnt help then i tried to use an update.pkg and always got signature verification failed, so i booted into fastmood and started flashing different recovery images and basebands, and nothing worked the last baseband and recovery image i flased was 111 so i tired to use the update package for the 111 and that doesnt seem to work. so i tried another factory reset and now everytime i attempt to get into fastboot i get stuck in a factory reset loop with a white screen with factory reset text reboot white screen reboot on and on...and every update.pkg i try doesnt seem to get anywhere but a blank screen and this is very fustrating i have been at this for 10 hours straight please help!!!!
Of course you must make sure you have installed the correct recovery that matches with the .pkg you are using...
When it boots up, hold both volume buttons, then choose factory reset from the First menu. Then do it again.
If that doesn't work, you may have messed something up. Look up QDL tool for the Streak and try to upgrade that way.

There is a post about a bricked streak in the General Dell Streak forum. There are links for the QDL tool and instructions there.
I had to use the QDL tool to get my streak back from near death. And then to prep it for a warranty return since I have some weird issue with a flashing light restart loop when my Sim card is installed.

[Q] need help to make streak refunction again

I have a Hugh problem now that need someone to help me out!!!
I was use my streak 4-5 months problem-free until around a week ago it start acting weird by some random massages show up, sometime cannot answer the call and randomly reboot so I try factory reset my phone (BUT THAT IS WHERE THE REAL PROBLEM BEGIN) after factory reset my streak freeze up at dell logo screen ,I remove the battery out and reboot it again which is the result still the same, I replete the reboot 5-6 times until I accept the it is brick!!!! after a few days on research I try fastboot it and try to boot into FW 351 (my streak begin with FW 309 out of the box) with somehow cannot boot up (Freeze at dell logo) so I try to go directly to the streakdroid 1.9.1 and it can boot up to the home screen, but after reboot it strucked at boot loop of streakdroid with Dj steve flashing text (it can boot past dell logo) then I try various version of streakdroid including 1.5.1 1.6.0 1.6.1 1.7.0 1.8.0 1.9.0 that notthing boot up so I try simplestreak1.2 witch can boot up and function well with the issue of cannot install app from apk on sd card. try to reboot sometime can boot pass the process but sometime struck at "android" logo of simplestreak loop that need to reflash rom again and when it can pass all the boot process it still have an issue about the apk install and cannot reboot so i try to reflash back official rom 351 and someother version such as 309 318 354 but still no luck at all. All the flashing process going well but it cannot boot pass the dell logo
Help me please!!! because I already fall in love with this big boy and want it back to function so much!!!!!!!!! (sorry for my broken English)
and now situation going worst witch I struck on recovery mode and can boot up into normal one (after install rom and reboot it always show up reboot to recovery mode) but still can go to fastboot mode by quickly press&hold the shutter botton after reboot
The internal SD card on your streak may be bad.
To find out start fastboot mode.
When you have the small touch pad on the right enter *#301#
This will start a internal test of the SD Cards. Everything should pass.
If it fails you need to replace the internal SD card.
I had this issue before and that is what the problem was for me.
Hey All,
I was trying to install GingerStreak 2.4.4 from GingerStreak 2.4.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333010
According to the instructions, I flashed
amss.mbn - http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn
and
dsp1.mbn - http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/dsp1.mbn
(got both the files from the first link above)
Then when I tried to reboot into Bootloader (Power+Vol Up+Vol Down) but nothing happens apart from the Dell logo being displayed.
I try to boot normally, still stuck at the Dell logo. The phone never even reaches the boot animation.
I try to go boot into fastboot (power+camera key)mode, but the phone never even boots. The screen stays off, so do the LED lights.
I figured out that the files downloaded above were incomplete(due to slow speed Chrome showed incomplete files as download complete).
amss downloaded: 111KB. Actual Size: 15.41MB
DSP1 Downloaded: 250KB. Actual Size: 8.94MB
So, I flashed the wrong files.
Now, I guess, the phone is bricked big time.
I need big time to get into fastboot mode (to flash the correct files) or anyhow get my phone working.
Guys, need help. Please help me out and get this issue sorted out.
I don't know the details but search for instructions on either streakflash or qdl tool. That may get you back.

Bricked Dell: Hangs on Bootscreen

Dell Streak through Rogers(Canada)
Ive read all of the "bricked streak" threads already and none match how my phone bricked. I was in the process of installing superboot according to the cyanogenmod streak wiki's instructions. After it installed it started hanging at the boot screen so as any good idiot who just bricked his phone, I googled and hunted on here until I couldn't type simple words. So I found one fix guide that I tried and all has worked except installing the stock rom. I will list the guild, its brief one issue I had to substitute the Rogers rom for an O2 rom as I couldn't find a rogers rom for the streak.
1. Download the stock recovery ROM and stock official Dell ROM. Make sure Dell PC suite has installed.
2. Rename the stock official Dell ROM to "Update.pkg" and copy it to your Dell Streak SD card.
3. Turn on your Dell Streak while holding camera button to boot Streak into fast boot mode.
4. Tap on "Fast boot Mode" button, wait 10 seconds then connect to your PC.
5. Open a command prompt, and navigate to the folder where your "fast boot-windows.exe" is stored.
6. Enter "fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img". Make sure the .img file is in c:\ directory. The program will now update the recovery image to your Dell Streak.
7. Once the phone displays "Recovery Done", remove the battery and insert it again.
8. Hold down vol up and vol down button while turning on your Streak to boot into Recovery mode, and choose option 2.
9. Wait till it installs and it'll boot into Android.
You have finished restoring Dell Streak to factory condition.
Method 2
1. Put update.pkg to SD card root folder.
2. Power up Streak whilst holding both volume buttons.
3. Select option 2 - "software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD card" by pressing camera button.
4. Press camera button again Job done.

Okay so I figured out the solution, I need to recover it to stock from what I understand. so I've followed the guide(s) and I still have the phone hang after "install update.pkg" with just a blackscreen. I've tried to put the streakmod recovery but I cant get it to install either, hangs on blackscreen as well.
Guys it will be great help if some body can give me the links to the official dell streak 2.1 rom.
Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem , did you fix yours ??
Mine hang a minute after the Dell logo ...
Just recentally fixed mine ie the screen after a year I managed to get it to boot did a reset as it was stalling at dell logo and then sometimes not even switching on just siting with leds on. So after the reset haven't been able to get it to boot so will give this a try see if it works so that I can at least sell it!
Rogers Dell Streak 5 - Totally Desperate Now
Great Forum everyone! Thanks for years of support. After three days of searching, scanning and racking my tiny brain for a solution I am finally breaking down and reaching out to all you good ppl ...I fear after several years of flashing various devices (albeit somewhat amateurishly) I have finally created my first true paperweight. Surely not!
Whilst trying to root my Dell Streak 5 using the Superboot method I think I have managed to brick it somehow...
Tried the method outlined at the beginning of this thread and all goes well until step 8 when my phone boots into Android system recovery <2e>. From here I have manually tried to "apply sdcard:update.zip" this hunts for the file but presumably its looking for a .zip extension not Update.pkg as I have named it. I tried on the off chance renaming the Update.pkg to .zip but then AR says 'bad package'.
Here' what I know:
Dell Streak 5 (Rogers) - Carrier unlocked via Streak Unlocker software (paid for)
Device boots up to Dell screen and hangs on logo, sometimes the logo splash
appears and hangs other times it just flashes Dell logo repeatedly.
When plugged in without battery and left volume key held down device did get recognized as A Qualcomm CDMA MSM device or something. So I don't think its completely dead.
Totally Lost at this point and desperate for help
Any suggestion or additional info would be most helpful.
Thanks
It happens when you using Clockworkmod.
I recommend you to use Streakmod. I had try Clockworkmod as recovery image. But it doesn't work well. I'm using Streakmod and it goes pretty well.

Streak lives again
And my Streak has life again. Thanks for the walk through and help
Wish mine would live. It gave it up yesterday. I've tried every frickin thing I can think of including the QDL tool to revive it. Nada.
Guess it's time to part it out.

[Q] No Boot After ODIN'd to stock

Hey all,
I had CM7 running on my Vibrant for about 2 months until today when I decided to try out some other ROMs. I got Team Toxic's Crazy8 installed but had an issue where the stock bootloader and recovery were reflashed somehow (I must have screwed something up while trying to edit my sd card partition). So every time Crazy8 would boot, it would act as if I made no changes whatsoever. After each reboot, it would boot without any of my settings, apps, etc. from the last boot.
So I decided to try Bionix instead and figured I'd have to get back to stock. I used ODIN to do this and after reflashing the stock JFD ROM, everything passes. My issue is that now when the phone boots up (after seeing the T-Mobile animation and jingle and the Galaxy S animated logo) the screen just goes black. Power button does nothing. If I hit any of the soft buttons, they light up but the screen doesn't respond at all.
I've reflashed using ODIN multiple times now and the same thing is happening. I've also followed the bootloop fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499) step by step but to no avail. I know my phone isn't bricked and I'm far from panicked. I just want my phone back.
Thanks in advance,
Luke
EDIT: Also, in the stock recovery (after resetting user data and clearing cache), when I hit reinstall packages it says:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
And then it just hangs there and the progress bar does nothing.
After some more research, I realized I'm getting the notorious mbr checksum error. Found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888084) and am currently downloading Eugene. I'll update this thread with my results.
EDIT: Finally got it flashed to stock, and it boots up past the black screen. It took quite a bit of digging and dead links to figure it out. Here is the exact procedure I followed:
1. Download Eugene's Froyo-that-does-not-brick here: http://www.4shared.com/file/dJiyRz3v/EUGENE373_SamsungS_Froyo_PDA.html
2. Open ODIN (as administrator if Vista or Win7).
3. Use the 512 PIT file and Eugene's PDA file (that you just downloaded).
4. Uncheck re-partition.
5. With the phone in download mode, start the flash.
6. When it is done, it will reboot into stock recovery and you won't be able to do anything. Unplug the phone and remove the battery for a second or two.
7. Put the battery back in, but DO NOT try and turn on the phone yet. Hold down just the volume up and down buttons.
8. Plug the USB cable back in. It should go straight to download mode. If you go back into the stock recovery, go back to step 6.
9. Check the re-partition box in ODIN and select the JFD PDA file.
10. Flash again.
You might still get the MBR error message, but you should at least be able to get back into your phone and it should otherwise operate normally.
After trying to fix my phone (black screen with lit soft keys, 2e recovery (no workie), MBR Checksum Error) for 2 days this finally has done it!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this WITH a working link!! I won't ever delete that file again. You really are awesome!!

[Q] Dell Streak 5 Stuck At Dell Logo

Hi everybody, please help! (Sorry for my bad English)
-I have a Dell Streak 5 (Unlocked Version) installed Android 2.2 from Dell.
-I tried to upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.3 using fastbook. Everything work fine, and then I tried to Root my device, Streak working fine even I turn off and turn it back on.
-After a week, the Dell cannot connect to the internet due to Network Connection error. I tried to turn it off and then it stuck at Dell logo when I turn it on.
I spent over 10 hours to fix it but it still stuck at Dell logo.
-Please give me your advice (Include steps are perfect) any advices will be appreciated.
*What I tried*
1. Installed Dell Drive ( Windows 7 recognize my Dell Streak via Fastboot)
2. Tried Retail ROM 360 and 407 with suitable recovery downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_5
3. Tried Custom ROM
Longhorn 2.1V2
Longhorn 2.1v1
Longhorn 2.2v4
Longhorn 2.7_Red
All are from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_5/ROMs
And Custom Rom 407 (Don't remember where I downloaded this firmware)
*When select update.zip (Custom Rom) it take approximate 5 minutes to display a confirmation. After I accept the Rom installed, a new line say installed complete, but the Dell still stuck at Dell logo. I do not know what recovery version suite with those custom ROM above so I download the two latest version and tried them all (Recovery 3.27 and 3.28beta)
*When select update.pkg, it does not show me anything except the black screen with light (I mean it look like a screen with Dell logo but there is no Dell logo in this case)
*One more problem, the Dell won't charge, I plug it to USB port but some time it display 0% battery and turn off automatically.
Addition Information:
Modem version = GAUSB1A1136000
OS Version = GBUSB1A134700
Battery Charge Disabled (Do not know how to turn it on in fastboot)
Charge-State 1%0%, (While I am look at it now it raised to 3%0%)
Thanks.
did you do factory reset (dell) and wipe ?
I followed these step below.
How to Flash with a COMPLETE wipe
1.) Download zip file to SD card
2.) Reboot in Streakmod Recovery
3.) Make Nandroid Backup - I skip this step because nothing to backup
4.) After backup, install Longhorn_2.X.zip
5.) Perform wipe data/factory reset from SM Recovery (blue letters)
6.) Reboot and perform a Dell Factory Reset (white letters)
7.) Phone will reboot. First boot can/will take a few minutes.
Sources: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355878
I am doing those steps above again.
1. update.zip file is on SD card now.
2. Press and hold Camera and Power button until "white screen" appear and select fastboot
3. Run those command in CMD
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
[recovery.img is a custom recovery latest version 0.3.2.8 beta]
Press and hold "UP" and "Down" volume keys after reboot command line.
3A. Select update.pkg (Dell recovery) after a couple seconds the screen change to Custom recovery screen.
3B. Select custom update.zip
4. After finish the screen say
" Mounting system!
Extracting Packages
I'm Still Extracting!
Symlinking Files
Setting Permissions!
Extracting Boot Image!
Done!
Now do a wipe data/Factory Reset and Dell Format!
Install from sdcard complete."
5. I press "Arrow button" to go back to custom recovery screen and select "Wipe data/factory reset"
After "Wipe data/factory reset", the screen say
"Error mounting /data/!
Skipping format... ( Is this normal? )
..... There are some line say Cannot mount... and Invalid Argument.....
Data Wipe complete
..... There are some line say Cannot mount... and Invalid Argument....."
6. After "Wipe data/factory reset" I select "Reboot system Now"
7. Press and Hold "Up" and "Down" volume keys while system boot up.
8. Select "Factory Reset" (Dell Recovery)
--- The Dell Reboot and Stuck at Dell logo, 3 keys sometime flashing---
Am I doing a right way?
While Dell stuck at Dell the computer can recognize Dell Streak.
Thanks for responding.
I thinc your sd card has problems, and i mean the internel one.
But I used to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.3 successfully last week.

Seems to me that something happend to the internal sd card, could be that there are some bad sectors on the card.
Everything that you did is ok. That's why i thinc is the card.
I did a "SD & SIM Test" on fastboot, it seem Internal Card and External Card work well.
Internal SD
Card Size 1903Mbytes
DMC/Datatest: Pass
By the way, do I need to insert SIM card in?
Flash a stock recovery.img and then flash a stock ROM

Flash the amss and DSP1 files for the 360 in fastboot
Boot into recovery and flash the update package again
If you do that and it still won't boot and the qdl tool won't work either then you definitely have an issue at least with the inner SD

However, Dell cannot go through Dell logo so I cannot move on...

By the way, I am using Windows 7 64bit, do I need a "special" driver? so far, my computer can recognize the Dell.

After it gets through flashing, AS SOON as you see the DELL logo then press the volume buttons and go into recovery and select factory reset.... In other words after it flashes don't let it try to boot without doing a factory reset

I thinc is the memory card, it has a problem a bad sector or something, you should try to replace the card if what cdzo72 said doesn't work.
I tried more than 3 times with 360 ROM. 1 time it ask me to confirm after select update.pkg, and the rest does not ask me to confirm, just black screen in approximate 15minutes and then reboot, after that stuck at Dell logo. I tried to use another external SD card. Custom ROM can recognize it but it's still not help.
They mean the internal card hiding beneath the plastic in the battery compartment. You either have to disassemble the Streak or cut away a section of the plastic to get to it.

I have a question, What Rom are you ultimately trying to get installed? Lets start there and come up with a plan.
