I have been searching forum after forum and cannot find a straight answer on how to gurantee I am not rooted. I used adb to remove superuser.apk busybox and su. The surperuser app is no longer showing but I want to be certain before I go ahead with the OTA update that is pending on my phone. My girlfriend has the same phone and is rooted with no roms or lagfix and her phone i stuck at the boot screen. Just want to avoid that happening to me so I dont have to try to fix 2 phones. Thanks in advance!

From current reports, ppl who aren't even rooted are still sticking. The only sure fire I know of restoring back to stock is by flashing the JFD stock ROM through ODIN. My only thing is if you are going to have to use ODIN to flash your phone back to stock and to fix your GF's phone, then why not just flash the JI6 update through ODIN? There is no difference from getting the JI6 this way then the actual OTA.
Thanks for the reply. Before my phone got stuck on the boot screen I turned off USB debugging. Will I still be able to fix the phone with the USB debugging off? probably seems like a silly question, I'm very new to this.

Stock ROM, rooted.
No lag fix, no gps fix.
updated fine.
However, I updated through minikies like Galaxy S Suppoprt said on their twitter.
I found it to be the easiest and safest way.
Hung on the Galaxy S for a bit... but i waited it out.

ODIN uses Download Mode, not USB debugging. None of the original posts containing methods for entering Download Mode work on my phone so here is the proper procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8158716&postcount=150
Install an app that requires root. If it cant launch then I would say its not rooted any more. Of course that doesn't mean that you still wont have an issue using the OTA. Why not just install a JI6 Rom and call it done?
CacheMate
Rom Manager
Titanium
are a few I can think of right off the top of my head.
I bought an HTC Incredible a month and a half ago. I had my phone "temporarily" rooted with Z4 Root for about a month no problem. Over the weekend I went into Titanium Backup to unfreeze an app and it says I don't have root privileges. Super User now says it wants to update and then errors out. I power cycled and ran Z4 Root again and it says it worked, but still no Super User. I have read a little here and there on the internet but have not been able to figure out why this happened. I read OTA update may have caused it, but I don't remember receiving any updates and I also noticed Z4 Root is not in Market anymore and pretty much most of the links to it on the web are dead now. Were did it go? Anybody know whats up with this?
Also, I was wondering if doing a factory reset will restore the apps I froze with Titanium Backup? I want to do a restore so I can make a clean backup. I am planning on checking out Unrevoked3.

UNREVOKED Is Your Best Bet, I Used It To ROOT My Girls Phone, & It Was Pretty Effortless!! Although It Took A While, But If You Do Decide To Try It Out, My Advice Is Find Something Else To Do After It Starts.Running... I Almost Stopped It A Few Times Thinking It Was Stuck!! But It's Not!!!
Let It Run!!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Yesterday I used flashtool release/x10flash.bat to install and run z4root.
Worked like a charm on my Xperia x10a.
Peace

I'm Not Sure If You Still Need Z4Root But.... Here You Go!!
z4 help
Z4 has not worked on my droid since the update to 2.2.1 anyone know what I can do.
I also need to re-root my phone.... didn't notice until today that the update took away superuser permissions... tried downloading z4root and it says that application will not work on this phone
still no help?
Just use unrevoked. It's effortless and just got updated for all phones. It gives you superuser privileges
After lots of searching and the links to z4root on these forums not working, I finally unrooted and then rooted my 2.2.1 Droid X.
Went to droidhut dot webs dot com on my Droid X<--- wont let me post links since I'm new to the forums
Clicked on the Motorola root/unroot link at the top
downloaded the z4root from there by clicking - "CLICKING HERE"
unrooted my Droid X - let Z4 do its thing
let the phone reboot
tried temp root - didn't work -so I tried permanent boot and it worked perfectly
2.2.1 rooted
Z4root can no longer root the new Sony Ericsson X10 update 2.0.2.A.0.24. I hope that the devs are still working on it because it was such a great app!
Z4root
just rooted my LG Optimus M..deleting all bloatware..thnx
im using x10 mini pro running on 2.1... z4 has been running for hours now, but no luck yet... help needed... T___T
My anti virus program says it contain trojan. Will this harm my pc
@ PMGRANDS
cannot download this file on pc or droid 2 phone....pc says search for file to open this type of program...phone says download not supported any help please
Unrevoked
Unrevoked currently only works for htc devises and z4 works for motorola devices
Thanks For All Of theReplies
Thank you everyone for all of your replies, sorry I have not been more interactive with this thread. I did manage to get everything worked out and figured I would share my results. It turned out all I had to do to get Z4 Root to work again was give my device a factory reset through HBOOT. Once I did that I was able to to fire up Z4 Root and get Titanium Backup going, etc.
I just wanted to post this to let you all know I figured this out and appreciate the responses. I am no longer using Z4 Root, I ended up rooting with Unrevoked. Everything is working great, I essentially was using Z4 Root before so I could use Titanium backup, but now the possibilities I have are endless!! I have been having so much fun playing with roms, themes, etc. I am new to all of this, but I am a tech Junkie so I am catching on fast. I recommend to anyone who is just getting into this to DO YOUR RESEARCH before modifying your device so you know what you are getting yourself into!! Thanks again everyone!
Z4root no longer working
Runnig 2.1 with the latest update with multitouch. My Z4root no longer works. Sideloaded the newest post release from here and installed, it is still not working. When I go to run it, Z4 starts up and either freezes my screen or runs forever on running exploit. I have busybox and superuser already. Any suggestions?
It would appear that Z4Root is just not going to work with Droid 2 and the latest OTA update. I'm starting to really hate Android phones.
If I were to use super one click to unroot my atrix, would I have to removed any other things to be able to bring the phone back to factory settings? Does super one click remove the super user app? Or would I have to do that manually after or before the unroot? Same question for non-market place apps. I was going to return the phone to get it cheaper somewhere else.
Super One click appears to not unroot completely. After unrooting, GOOD fir enterprise and busybox still thinks the phone is rooted....
Sent while mobile.
anyway to confirm this further? It is kind of a show stopper for me in rooting the phone.
Don't use SuperOneClick to root the phone, use aRoot in the development section instead, as its specifically for the Atrix, and can unroot.

2nd this.
SuperOneClick seems to create a little busybox mess since it's more of a universal phone tool, rather then Atrix specific.

Hi all,
I have rooted my Atrix very well, no problems. Use this method.
I did only to activate the tethering.
Now I want to return to normal. rooted.
This is because Google will not let me watch movies.
How rooted back the Atrix?
Thanks

There is a way to keep root and watch movies from Google. Just download VooDoo OTA Rootkeeper from the market. There is a temporary unroot option in the program. Just make a back up by clicking Protect root. Then you can use the Temp. un-root option. When you want to restore root load up the program again and click Restore root.

So I would like to use wifi tethering with my Nexus 10 that I plan to get soon and I would prefer not to have to add the plan to my account. I know that people used to use FoxFi but I heard that doesn't work with JB anymore (I'm on the newest update 3.16.651.3 from 1/31).
And if there is an app or program out there that will do this for free do I have to be rooted? Cuz I figure I would have to be. And on that note. How would I root and stay totally stock without losing OTA's and such. Is there even a way? I don't want a custom ROM or anything at all just the ability to tether my wifi for free.
Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks.
Yes you have to be rooted to use WiFi tether or native hot spot. WiFi tether requires root access for the app. The native hotspot requires a build prop tweak/hack. You can find more info here.

#Root-Hack_Mod*Always=LTE
You can root the stock ROM. Check the threads in the dev sections. By zedomax and by regaw_lienad . You Dont even have to flash a custom recovery, I believe (that way you can still take OTAs). Really, your best bet, I think, is root and get custom recovery and flash one of the stock rooted ROMs posted in the dev section.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
Thanks guys so if I just root my stock ROM and don't flash a custom recovery I can still take OTA updates no problem? Cuz that's what I want. And as for that MOD is that for using my hotspot app or for boosting my 3G by removing the proxy. Cuz as a matter of fact that proxy reset thing (by typing ##3282# and setting all the HTTPS settings to 0) because I saw online that it will boost the often very 3G slow speeds of my EVO.
And is there a specific app that I would need to download afterwards to use? Or could I use the native Hotspot app after? Sorry for all the questions guys but I am just very curious about this and I greatly appreciate all the help.
Yup if you just root your stock rom without flashing a custom recovery you should be able to accept ota's without any issues. However if your rooted and accept and ota then you more than likely will loose root. Also by accepting an ota you take the chance of permanently loosing the ability to gain root or achieve s-off. Also that mod is for the native hot spot to work. No app needed. The speed up 3g mod is a sperate from this I believe.
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always=LTE
Seriously, just unlock bootloader and install custom recovery. Then flash a stock rooted ROM from here. And when there is an OTA update, you will be able to find a rooted version of THAT here as well. Our devs keep us up yo date,... even for those who prefer stock.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
This is odd, but I'm stock, not rooted. S-OFF'd, but locked. And I have the most up-to-date version. And when I use the Sprint HotSpot application, it doesn't give me the error that I need to have the plan, it just connects, acts like it's allowed to use it, but just drops the 3G over and over again, and never connects to anything on my Galaxy Tab. It should throw back the error saying I don't have the plan, right?

Yeah that's what it always does. That's what mine does too and I'm 100% stock nonrooted and S-on
