[Q] Netbook modification - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one know if there's a way of connecting the atrix to a tv (hdmi/ monitor), and then a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. So as to get it to act as if you've bought the netbook dock?

[Q] HDMI to DisplayPort

Hey guys,
I have a two display setup at work, my Lenovo T510 laptop on a Lenovo Docking Station. One monitor is VGA the other is DVI.....both going into my docking station.
My question is, can I go from my Photon Dock HDMI to DisplayPort in the back of my Lenovo docking station and display on my monitors?
Thanks in advance!!
J
Unless the port on the dock is an input which is highly unlikely then no.

Have you tried it on a hdmi device? I have done it on my hd tv. It works and well. I believe you must have hdmi output to do it. Or the laptop dock is the main option.

Well it pulled up on my TV. Isn't there a way to use it on a desktop without the dock?

If you have a HDMI input on your desktop monitor, you can connect the Atrix via HDMI to your monitor. If you have the Webtop hack, you will be able to use it this way. If not, you should still be able to use the entertainment center. You won't however be able to use Webtop on a laptop, as video on a laptop is out only. Similarily, you won't be able to connect your phone through the video card on a desktop, as this is video out only also. You could possible do this with an elaborate setup using firewire, serial ports, etc., but why would you go to those lengths?
Hope I understood your question and my response answers that question.
Cheers!
<edit> I should also add that the limiting factor with a laptop and desktop is not the connection itself, but rather the drivers. The ports are capable of video in, but you will not find drivers to accommodate this.
The laptop dock is not a "laptop" as such, and you shouldn't confuse the laptop dock with a laptop.

MHL with OTG?

Is there a way to run both cables? With a splitter of some sort maybe? I've searched amazon for a cable with no luck.
Anyone on XDA know of a way?

Nope, when I first got the phone when it came out in searched that answer out for months in hope. Finally I just bought a new controller which was why I wanted it. I lucked out and grabbed a ps3 controller from newegg new for 32.99. What exactly are you trying to setup? The one thing I can tell you won't work is trying to get say a keyboard hooked up otg and use the mhl adapter.

I was hoping to hook up MHL and run a mouse actually. So I can control netflix and maybe a few games using the mouse on my tv.

Try using a bluetooth mouse to do that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, a Bluetooth mouse a keyboard work for me when using MHL.
I would like to do MHL and USB OTG for playing a flash drive files on the TV, instead of copying it over. But, a microSD card solved some f that.
Bluetooth didn't even come to mind for some reason haha, awesome idea! Thanks guys!

I should mention for the storage bit that there are some apps that can mount samba (windows shared) folders and you can later access data using a media app and stream the data over the network.

Can't make it function
Hi guys I see that you are talking about MHL and OTG...and it seems you don't have probemlms with it on your i777.
On the contrary, I can't seem to make it work....When I plug a mouse, keybord or flash memory....NOTHING happens.
I already searched a lot....some people say it depends on the kernel (mine is Siyah 5.5.1)...some say it depends on the ROM (mine is AOKP 7.3)....I don't know which answer is correct......or maybe my OTG cable is faulty????.......
Please if you know something else that I can do to enable or anything....let me know!
Thanks in advance!
I believe you misunderstood, I explained you can use mhl and bluetooth mouse and or keyboard @ the same time. However that's not technically using MHL and otg cable.

Mhl compatible?

I was wondering if this tablet will work with an Mhl adapter to be hooked up to a tv? Any help is appreciated

No, there is no HDMI support for that
If you think that its not suppose to be for devices without a HDMI port then thats incorrect
The HTC EVO 3D has HDMI support but no HDMI port
Strange but yeah, sometimes the unexpected is expected.

Kinda confused by that post... Sorry. But Yeah the exp has hdmi support and so do a few other phones like the rezound... They require an Mhl adapter to be used for hdmi. I was just wondering if the same applies to this tablet

The Sony Tablet S or P does not support MHL.
so does this mean there's no capabilities for an external display on the sony tablet s??

Wait, what if someone can place such kernel modules onto the Sony Tablet S?
Will it work?
Or is it something to do with hardware?

If your display/TV has DLNA capabilities, it works like a charm.
If it doesn't, you can add to your TV something like DLNA-enabled Blu Ray player or Android stick.
Bingo, problem solved. External display works just fine.
Sorry to reply to this old threat, but I was searching gsmarena specs, and in sony tablet S 3G it says "TV out via MHL", but not for the non-3G version. I had the impression that besides the cellular chip there were no other differences..
Did something change with ICS update?
Cause I'm ready to get an MHL adaptor as I actually need HDMI out.

The only difference between the 3G variant and the WiFi variant is that the 3G version has an add in modem which plugs into a socket (If I'm not mixing up devices), and firmware. There is no MHL support.

I hear you, I agree with you, but here it says
TV-out (via MHL A/V link)

and that's why I'm wondering if something changed or the 3G model indeed has something different

That specification is erroneous. The Sony Tablet S does not support MHL.

Turning my photon into a nexus Q

Ok so I've got my deactivated Photon and I'm repurposing the device as an Android media player. I'm basically trying to make it a nexus Q/Google TV like device. Looking for suggestions on how to best achieve this. I would like to be able to control the device from my phone (Note 2) as the nexus Q allows you to modify it's music queue.
Some background: phone is unlocked, I'm using an HD dock to connect to my TV or stereo.

Buy an HDMI Cable & download an airplay server app from the market (the is one like that)
and an AIrplay Client
Hdmi out on my photon always looked terribly pixelly. I almost could not stand it but mine is locked so maybe custom roms and kernels fix that issue.

Thinking of doing this on a 32" bedroom TV. How are you all controlling it, do you just set up whatever video you want and then plunk it into the dock, or do you have a wireless keyboard/mouse?

Well that's one of the things I'm trying to figure out. If I can get it to behave like the Nexus Q then I could control it from any Android device. Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to accomplish this.
