Hey guys I'm confused. I have a Samsung Mesmerize (US Cellular) and EC10 is the official Froyo build. Then I see mentions of EC01 in the Mesmerize forum, and in the Fascinate forum as well. It's supposed to be newer than EC10. If that isn't confusing enough... I'm now seeing mention of ED01??
Can anybody explain what the differences between these are? I am really confused.

EC01 is a renamed fascinate leak. And ED01 is official froyo for the fascinate. We have source but no ota yet.

Ah, ok. So do we know if EC01 is newer than ED01 or the other way around? And I'm guessing both are newer than EC10?
So are they same?

EC01 and ED01 are newer than EC10.
The explaination for the difference between the two is a few posts up in this thread

Don't know if they are the same, but they are close from what I gather
EC01 that we have is actually ED01. it was renamed EC01 so as to protect those who gave it to us.. or at least that is the conclusion I have come to given the provided information

It's another leak for the standard vibrant. No one will ever be able to give you a clear answer on whether or not it's better. It's newer, so we just assume it to be better.
It is the leak for the newest modem from samsung firmware update.
I am using the ji5 because it seems to be faster on my phone compared to ka5, ka6, ka7 and kb1. Yup, I tried them all.
Hi you guys. Please forgive a n00b girl's question... But...
I have had my fascinate for a while (Oct 2010) but at times the reception was horrible and I absolutely came to despise the stock Touchwiz ROM.
So, just as I was getting to my wits' end (and jump ship to a better phone), the official froyo release came along and most of my cures were answered. In an attempt to get the froyo upgrade to take (I had the dreaded update failure issue), I've rooted my fascinate and experienced the joys of custom ROMs, kernels, and mods.
So, now, I am LOVING the fascinate... But the signal still seems to suck compared to other VZW 3G phones.
So... What radio versions work best? I have the ED01 running on mine using the Evil Fascination 3.5.1 and OTB 1.3 kernel.
Do any seem to get better reception?
Thanks, guys! Keep up the good work!

Hey robyna, have you tried the EC01 radio and have you updated your PRL lately?

I have updated PRL... Haven't tried EC01. Is it better than the ED01 that comes with the froyo OTA?
I'm using ED01 with the Community ROM. My device seems little faster with GPS lock than EC01 was but every device acts different.

The conventional wisdom is that ec01 was just a leaked-and-renamed version of what was shortly thereafter released as ed01.
It's possible that ed01 was a slightly later build... I've seen no consensus on either being better than the other, but ed01 was the one that got officially released.
More recently (last week), vzw pushed an ota update to ed03 which included a new modem. you can get ed03 by following the same instructions found here to "get to ed01 quickly". We've not yet seen a flashable packaging of the ed03 modem afaik.
I'm running the ed03 modem, it runs fine but I can't say I've seen obviously better reception than ed01.

Okay, so I'm running CM nightlies, and my baseband is EB01, whereas i'm assuming I should be on ED04 or ED05 by now (if i were on stock). Could there be any performance differences, or am I fine on EB01?
You are fine. I actually prefer EB01 to the other modems. I get excellent signal and the fastest GPS lock with EB01. Running it now with CM7/MIUI.

Thanks man. I was starting to get a little worried when I kept seeing ED04 all over the place, and very rarely eb01.
FWIW, I've read that it's recommended that you use the EC09 radio with CM7. You can download the Odin file for it from a thread in the dev forum.

I see that in the Dev section there are several Roms that appear to use a radio greater than ED05.
What are the current radios for stock and leaked?
Thanks
A partial answer is that EH09 and EI20 are system leaks radios.
So, in short I will be sticking with ED05 for the time being until I sort it out and find any information on stability.

Best radios, according to the majority of users are ec 09 and ed 05
tsm res1.2, TKSGB 11-06, lag fix
EDO5 is what I am currently using and have noticed better battery performance. I haven't seen anything of the ones you have mentioned. The EDO5 is the latest official release. I would stick with that. New radios or basebands that are leaked could possibly not be finished or cause horrible battery times. I would stick with what you have. Just my two cents. If anyone has tested one of these newer releases then post it here. I am open to using new radios if it makes battery life better than the ED05 baseband.

The roms based on eh09 and ei20 are from other galaxy s phones other than fascinate (mesmerize if not mistaken) which our awesome devs have ported for our phones. The radios cant be used on the fascinate so stick with one of the tried and true fascinate radios.

I think not. Most use ec09 or ed05 fascinate radios.

thanks thedoman
I have been out of the Fascinate loop for a little over a month. Let me just say that the devs here and an unlocked bootloader really make development much quicker.
What I am saying is that a bunch has gone on here in my absence.

Which do you think is better? ec09 or ed05?

Eh03, but if I had to choose between those two, I had better results from ec09

between eh03, ec09, and ed05... ec09 gives me the best results >eh03>ed05. I have seen quite few people reporting they get the best speeds with eh03 but im not seeing it. I suggest trying all three and determine what works best for your area.

I think I will test ec09 and just see what I get. I'm not that impressed with ed05. I feel like I got better performance from eb01.

Not that anyone cares but I have been testing ec09 radio all afternoon and I get substantially better download and upload speeds than I did with ed05. Thanks for the advice guys.

Wonder why CM7 was built on 2.3.4 as opposed to 2.3.5, anyone know?
If you check version, it's actually 2.3.7

He's talking about kernel from 2.3.4 correct?
it's because 2.3.5 is not an "official" update. It was never a fiNished product and was never OTA pushed to our phones.

You're right Ash, the kernel. Sorry for not clarifying.
Does it have to be available OTA'd somehow for CM7? Guess my question stems knowing Eclipse is 2.3.5, so wonder why not CM7.

It was just the devs (dzk) decision to use an "official" Android version, 2.3.4 was/is a "final product" "approved"(and I use those terms very loosely lol) for the x2, 2.3.5 was never made final so there are still some "little kinks" (for instance some people seem to have wifi issues on 2.3.5, there is also 3 or 4 versions of 2.3.5 floating around, which can make it a little confusing on which one should be used)
In the end, only Dragonz knows why he chose 2.3.4 for three kernel base

And in the end, who cares. Works, works well. Just kicking around the idea of Eclipse 2.04 and know that an SBF is in order to get there and that got me wondering.
