[Q] CM7 on 2.3.4 - Motorola Droid X2

Wonder why CM7 was built on 2.3.4 as opposed to 2.3.5, anyone know?

If you check version, it's actually 2.3.7

He's talking about kernel from 2.3.4 correct?
it's because 2.3.5 is not an "official" update. It was never a fiNished product and was never OTA pushed to our phones.

You're right Ash, the kernel. Sorry for not clarifying.
Does it have to be available OTA'd somehow for CM7? Guess my question stems knowing Eclipse is 2.3.5, so wonder why not CM7.

It was just the devs (dzk) decision to use an "official" Android version, 2.3.4 was/is a "final product" "approved"(and I use those terms very loosely lol) for the x2, 2.3.5 was never made final so there are still some "little kinks" (for instance some people seem to have wifi issues on 2.3.5, there is also 3 or 4 versions of 2.3.5 floating around, which can make it a little confusing on which one should be used)
In the end, only Dragonz knows why he chose 2.3.4 for three kernel base

And in the end, who cares. Works, works well. Just kicking around the idea of Eclipse 2.04 and know that an SBF is in order to get there and that got me wondering.

UGH, anyone else having a flash withdrawal?

I definitely need something to flash before I go crazy!
NOTE: this isn't a "what should I flash onto my phone now" type board, this is just a "I'm bored and realized I'm going crazy cause I don't have anything to flash."
by the way, I'm definitely not asking for any ETA's for any new roms.
Lol I know the feeling. My wife has a bionic and she finally let me root it and debloat it. But she will not let me put a custom rom on it. I so want to flash dhacker ICS on it I would put eclipse on it also but she is on. 902 and nitro is still working on the new version.
I switched back to my Samsung fascinate to cure my flash addiction.

I'm on the Droid X2 with Big Red I'm going to use the Deodexed files posted Here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499642
I am a courious person not sure why I know 2.3.5 & 2.3.6 files won't work. I actually want to poke around with the Atrix Port files to see if I can figure out what it will take to port it. I'm pretty good looking for different things that link a common denominator. Whether or not I can do it is a whole different story. I have never developed. But I have played around with the xml files with and without Hickups.
Smali and Java I have not tried yet I would like to try out of boredom. It would be cool to drop down toggles built in for an app that can be changed out for another. Like I said Just Bored thats all. Probably long run I will defiantly crash and brick.

How sad is this? I was on cm7 and then sbf'd to stock 2.3.4. Things didn't run too bad, but then I couldn't stand it anymore. It just felt...dirty.
So I nandroided back to cm7. I feel guilty, like I was cheating.

haha, I definitely thought of that, but I also thought of taking 2nd-init and stripping away blur to make a total vanilla GB stock rom...
I wonder if I can do that with Mastafunk's (I think that's who made it) Naked ROM that was based off of 2.3.4. hmm..
I was running CM7 and installed miui on top. Didn't really like miui but restoring CM7 backup seemed like cheating. So I installed CM7 on top of miui. CM7 on top of miui on top of CM7. Interesting.

Eclipse 2.1 vs 2.2

I've made a cursory look around already, but wonder what are the compelling reasons to move up to 2.2 if I'm at 2.1 currently? The additions in the 418 build alone don't seem worth the hassle, so was anything added to eclipse 2.2 as well?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA
I believe 2.2 was just a rebase for the 418 OTA and updated apps. From what I've heard wifi issues are suppose to resolved as well. The only down fall is the battery bug is back but that's Motorola's fault. In addition the 418 OTA modifys the kernal a bit and is suppose to provided minor bug fixes.

WiFi behaves much better. I haven't had any issues with it.
Battery bug is back, though. However, if you want, you can still use Peppermint's battery bug fix found in the Development forum. It's based on a previous release of Android (2.3.4 I believe), but it still works if you want to apply it.
But, the main reason would be that from this point on, Nitro will base all of his Eclipse releases on this newest release which is an official update as opposed to the previous 2.3.5 not being official and it is different from the current 2.3.5 release.
WiFi... Its the only reason I went back stock then to the 2.2 but Im MX2 not DX2

What really needs to be updated in CM7? I'm sure if there was a big enough issue or if Cyanogenmod came out with a new update, he will update ours.
Just dsp manager and I believe some options in the Tom that contradict eachother in all the different settings. Lol

Since there is an official new kernal that should be put in. Which is why i don't use any of these new roms cause all of those (cm7, cm9, and miui) all uses 2.3.4 crappy kernal.
It would be nice if he did that.

Kinda hard to use a new kernel with a locked bootloader
If God (dzk) uses 2.3.4 there must be a reason. of course maybe he doesn't know anything about it, and is really lucky... Doubt it.

Well at least wifi is not working well for me. It is very slow to connect, and sometimes I need a reboot to make it work. Otherwise, it stays in the scan->connect loop forever. I saw this on touchpad before, so this maybe a CM7 issue, but it is far from perfect.

The 2.3.5 Kernel is not stable. I ran it for about a week and then thankfully got the 2.3.6 update! The Kernel freezes and lags the phone horribly. Be lucky you are not on this kernal
I ran it with the Milestone X2
I personally hope he's devoting all his time to CM9!

[Q] Rooting Droid X2

Hey guys,
So I'm probably asking the everyday question but I've rooted in the past (my Droid X) but I eventually get a free replacement which turned into a Droid X2. I'm currently running 2.3.5, un-rooted.
Can someone point me to a tutorial to root it so I can toss on CM9 or another ROM (unfortunately new Alpha JB ROMs it looks like for X2). All of the tutorials I saw say 2.3.4 or earlier.
Thanks guys - sorry for typical dumb question.

So, I rooted my DX2 and flashed it with Eclipse 2.3. Do I need to do anything else, or is the assumption that there won't be any more OTAs for the DX2, hence no need for preserving root etc?

Yup, your work is done. Enjoy your rom. Moto has long moved on and is no longer supporting this device. If there is another update you can restore root and accept it but more than likely it will lock your phone from being rooted again so you won't want it anyway. Moto will not remove blur software which is the root of the issues on this phone. With their razr series phones they have revamped their os and stopped calling it blur and they have made it clear that this phone isn't getting ics so.. It's safe to say that no other developments are happening on this phone.

No more updates for us. Our phone is done for in the eyes of Motorola. So if you are up and running, you are good. Just remember that if you ever want to try any of the other ROMs we have, you need to get back onto 2.3.4. Thats the only thing I dont like about Eclipse. Its the only one on 2.3.5.

While I'm completely new to rooting/Rom flashing and smartphone hacking in general, I have spent countless hours of studying and reading up on this forum and others about hacking my Droid X2. Then, it took me additional days and weeks to work up the courage to jump in the cold water and actually do it. Why did I do it? Because my X2 on stock ROM/Blur and 60 apps was coming to a near crawl.
Anyway, to make a long story short: I think at this point, I'm more comfortable with Eclipse than any of the CM ROMs, purely based on what I've read about the current outstanding CM issues on the DX2.

CM9 is more problematic since we have a locked bootloader. Which means we cant run it on a kernel its supposed to run on, so its still stuck on a gingerbread kernel. CM7, however, is still based on the Droid X2's default kernel. So it doesnt have all the problems that the Ice Cream Sandwich based ROMs have. People say they have wifi issues with CM7 but I have never experience them when I was on it. Trust me though, eventually, curiosity will get the better of you and you will want to try out other ROMs. lol
Cm isnt the issue its the kernal that causes our ICS woes, cm7 is my daily driver 8o% of the time

Questions on Flashing roms

First I want to thank everyone on this forum for all the nice work, and great information. Now my question, My wife and I both have Droid x2 phones, and have both seen increased issues since the 2.3.5 OTA from Verizon. I am a very tech-savy guy, I do IT for a living, but still am not 100% comfortable with flashing phones. I have SBF'd my Droid x2 a few times, and finally got the courage to flash Eclipse 2.3 on it. I would like to explore some different roms, but am wonder how to tell which stock(2.3.4 or 2.3.5) I should have installed before flashing a rom? I did read that Eclipse 2.3 you needed to be stock 2.3.5, but I am looking at CM7 and CM9, but could not see where it was stated to be on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5. Would someone be so kind as to give me a bit of incite on this. Does a rom have to say it is for you phone to flash it? example I was looking at CM10, jellybean rom but do not see it listed for the droid x2?
Thanks for all your help

EVERY ROM, other than eclipse needs to be on 2.3.4 before flashing. And as far as CM10, we dont have it at the moment. The only ROMs we have are CM7, CM9, AOKP and Paranoid Android which are all for 2.3.4. And Eclipse which, again, is the only one on 2.3.5.
---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:46 AM ----------
Also, a little background on our phone and the ROMs...
Our phone is running a Gingerbread kernel and that can't be changed. Even with the ICS ROMs, it is still running on a Gingerbread kernel due to our phone having a locked bootloader. That being said, all of our ICS ROMs, wont really be 100%. They run, and for a lot of people, they run really well. But you may get stuttering and lockups and random reboots every now and then. Some apps like netflix don't work since we have memory and graphics issues. But everyone feels different about what is a deal breaker. I have been running ICS since we got it and love it. If you want a fully working ROM though, CM7 or Eclipse is the best way to go. But it doesnt hurt to try everything out at least once.

Nope. Be careful if switching from and ICS back to a gingerbread. Should be ok but I've seen people have problems.
