I've made a cursory look around already, but wonder what are the compelling reasons to move up to 2.2 if I'm at 2.1 currently? The additions in the 418 build alone don't seem worth the hassle, so was anything added to eclipse 2.2 as well?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA
I believe 2.2 was just a rebase for the 418 OTA and updated apps. From what I've heard wifi issues are suppose to resolved as well. The only down fall is the battery bug is back but that's Motorola's fault. In addition the 418 OTA modifys the kernal a bit and is suppose to provided minor bug fixes.

Mhm lol the stupid thing is that the battery bug was fixed in one of the leaked soaks.I can't remember if it was 412 or 413.

WiFi behaves much better. I haven't had any issues with it.
Battery bug is back, though. However, if you want, you can still use Peppermint's battery bug fix found in the Development forum. It's based on a previous release of Android (2.3.4 I believe), but it still works if you want to apply it.
But, the main reason would be that from this point on, Nitro will base all of his Eclipse releases on this newest release which is an official update as opposed to the previous 2.3.5 not being official and it is different from the current 2.3.5 release.
WiFi... Its the only reason I went back stock then to the 2.2 but Im MX2 not DX2

The advantage here being that future updates to eclipse can be flashed right on top of 2.2?

Hey im considering flashing this as my first rom, but cant seem to find too definitely what does/doesn't work on this particular rom. Other than the list on the main post in dev section but i mean like bug wise is there anything major that has issues or isn't working at this moment? Other than the force close dialer(can you still make/receive calls??) is there any other things i should know before i flash this? Im currently stock rom/kernel just rooted. Just dont want to spend all the time flashing it and unlocking my bootloader to find out that the rom has serious issues that makes it unuseable for me. Im not too sure how you guys are about noobs/stupid questions posting in the dev section, so i just assumed that this is better suited for the Q&A. And correct me if im wrong, as im not quite positive, but i should be able to flash the cm7 rom and then the 1.3 OC kernel as well and have them both running? Is there one i need to flash before the other or how does that work?
This wouldnt be the rom to flash as it is still in alpha so it wont connect to any towers has bad battery life no dialer period. I would suggest flashing Jokers skinny rom for now its the most up to date and is running smooth for me
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
you can try alien rom .I had it running smoothly until i bricked my photon
I'm considering the homebase or alien, but they aren't running the latest OTA. What is the difference that the latest OTA did? i see no difference running stock rom.. And can anyone vouch to how the battery life is on roms as opposed to stock? Specifically one of the photon ones. Thanks for responses guys
The latest ota has many bug fixes and moto changed alot of their blur apps, which have made the phone faster. Homebase and alien are great but not up to date. I have a non stock rom called skinny which is made from the latest. In the end its up to you. My suggestion is to flash all three with no less than 24 hours on each to get a feel for it. Please keep in mind you wont be able to judge battery life this way

Go with Joker, that's just my two cents. Battery life is slight better from Joker to Home Base. Alien was okay, but Home Base had more tweaks then Alien. Then Joker has more stuff and is on the latest OTA from sprint, so that's what I'd personally suggest, plus it's the one I'm running.
I'm enjoying Joker's skinny Rom...it's current, and fast.

He's talking about kernel from 2.3.4 correct?
it's because 2.3.5 is not an "official" update. It was never a fiNished product and was never OTA pushed to our phones.

You're right Ash, the kernel. Sorry for not clarifying.
Does it have to be available OTA'd somehow for CM7? Guess my question stems knowing Eclipse is 2.3.5, so wonder why not CM7.

It was just the devs (dzk) decision to use an "official" Android version, 2.3.4 was/is a "final product" "approved"(and I use those terms very loosely lol) for the x2, 2.3.5 was never made final so there are still some "little kinks" (for instance some people seem to have wifi issues on 2.3.5, there is also 3 or 4 versions of 2.3.5 floating around, which can make it a little confusing on which one should be used)
In the end, only Dragonz knows why he chose 2.3.4 for three kernel base

And in the end, who cares. Works, works well. Just kicking around the idea of Eclipse 2.04 and know that an SBF is in order to get there and that got me wondering.
Like the title says...
What is the most stable & lag free ROM out there for X2? I'm on Eclipse 2.1 & this wifi problem is killing me softly. I was on CM7 but I kept getting problems with it.
If you have a ROM w/ a certain version of it that you'll suggest, I'm all ears.
In what problem did u have with cm7? If ur willing to go back I'm sure we can help solve them, unless u mean HDMI.

im looking into romming too and was wondering the same thing. I want a rom that is glitch free.
I don't really have any problems with CM7 other than wifi can take a while to connect...you may have to toggle it off and back on to get it to connect. I have not recently had any issues with it staying connected. I can't think of any other issues I've had. My wife has a DX2 stock and I used it for about 5 minutes today....that's enough to drive me crazy
Quick Note....Search bar. This topic has been raised twice in the past month.
But while I'm here I might as well put into it... I've been on CM7, MIUI, Molten and Eclipse and Eclipse is hands down the best. I don't know that bugs actually exist on this rom. Miui has seriously video issues, Molten isn't up to snuff over all, Cm7 is solid but the wifi connection is what turned me away, it is annoying as he'll even with the wifi fix scripts. Eclipse doesn't have a single on of these problems. Not one.

When I was on CM7, when I reboot it gets stuck at the boot screen at times. Followed all directions to the letter & i had a wifi problem also like some ppl had. that's what drove me away
Are you sure you are on the correct android build? Cm7 is fairly stable but it foes have its share of issues, none major by any means though. I would say eclipse is the most stable for the x2, and that's comming from a guy who runs cm7. Double check that you are on 2.3.5 for eclipse and not 2.3.4.

I finally dumped cm7 after three months of the wifi disconnects. Aside from that it's my favorite. I'm running eclipse 2.1 and it is solid, zero wifi problems sooooo happy about that. I do miss some of the cm7 features (long press pull down widget, swipe away notifies, lock screen options, overall customization). So far I'm sticking with eclipse 2.1.

Those are all definite benefits of cm7 especially the lockscreen for me...that was a huge thing that I liked about cm7. I do agree though that eclipse 2.1 is the most stable overall...do wish it was completely aosp but it is what it is I suppose huh

Kinda makes you wonder why the /418 ud has the same kernel as /413 & not the popular /412?
Also my Mx2 port won't work w/o /413.
edit This may have come about cuz the /412 has kernel 00007 & /413 has 00008.
Eclipse 1.3 was very stable in every way. Does not have all the goodies in 2.1 but is very stable. Cm7 is good also with a little massaging lol

Yes, I've checked my version it says 2.3.7
CadenH is referring to your kernel. It is from a particular blur rom & unalterable.
So for example if the rom wants you on 234 leak . Your kernel will be ...00005... & the rom replaces all but that & other locked partitions.
Has anyone heard/know of a fix for the LP icon changing in the MIUI ROM, I would say by far that the MIUI ROM has the most features and by far is the sexiest and one of the better ROM's out there. I am brand new to Android and have been in the iPhone Modding world for too long.
Once I get these files systems figured out and learn a little bit more, Ill be building and tweaking ROMs for the DX2

Ok guys, I personally have a S3 and love it, got a custom ICS rom on it (cleanrom 2.1). And my mom just got a Razr Droid, Im thinking about putting a new rom on it, something stable yet not a clusterfck /easy to learn for her. Tweaks with battery life in mind, performance, and full functional (like picture text working etc) Any suggestions? I would also want to put google now on there etc. I guess I have some reading up to do on this forum.
Eclipse ICS. I recommend this to everyone If you're not familiar, it's completely AOSP with a blacked-out look. Really nice. All features working. Also includes improved battery (in my experience), notification drawer toggles, etc, with some small tweaks here and there. Fairly minimal and easy to use.

Thanks, i just installed eclipse 1.3 (his newest one, he hasnt posted it here yet), than google now, Up and running smoothly. Now I had installed safestrap, can i disable that boot up option?
There's an Eclipse ICS 1.3? Could I trouble you for the link? I'm only on 1.2; I looked but could not find a newer version, so that'd be much appreciated l As for Google Now, glad to hear you got that working! I forgot to mention it earlier, but some have reported battery drain from it, so look out for that...
And I don't believe you can change the boot up screen, unfortunately :/ But I personally never found it to be much trouble. Just make sure your Mom knows not to hit the menu key and launch recovery xD
EDIT: Never mind, I found the Eclipse update! ...I was excited enough to get out of bed at 3:30 and turn my laptop on
EDIT #2: Annnd then I realize that I am running a GSM device and therefore need to GSM patch it Which I unfortunately don't think is possible on the latest version *sigh* Ah well, back to bed...

Thanks for that, that's good to hear. I wasn't sure it would work, as the patch was labelled Eclipse ICS 1.2 in the thread. Do I have to re patch this then or could I flash this ROM right over the old version (doubt it... Just wondering)?

First I want to thank everyone on this forum for all the nice work, and great information. Now my question, My wife and I both have Droid x2 phones, and have both seen increased issues since the 2.3.5 OTA from Verizon. I am a very tech-savy guy, I do IT for a living, but still am not 100% comfortable with flashing phones. I have SBF'd my Droid x2 a few times, and finally got the courage to flash Eclipse 2.3 on it. I would like to explore some different roms, but am wonder how to tell which stock(2.3.4 or 2.3.5) I should have installed before flashing a rom? I did read that Eclipse 2.3 you needed to be stock 2.3.5, but I am looking at CM7 and CM9, but could not see where it was stated to be on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5. Would someone be so kind as to give me a bit of incite on this. Does a rom have to say it is for you phone to flash it? example I was looking at CM10, jellybean rom but do not see it listed for the droid x2?
Thanks for all your help

EVERY ROM, other than eclipse needs to be on 2.3.4 before flashing. And as far as CM10, we dont have it at the moment. The only ROMs we have are CM7, CM9, AOKP and Paranoid Android which are all for 2.3.4. And Eclipse which, again, is the only one on 2.3.5.
---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:46 AM ----------
Also, a little background on our phone and the ROMs...
Our phone is running a Gingerbread kernel and that can't be changed. Even with the ICS ROMs, it is still running on a Gingerbread kernel due to our phone having a locked bootloader. That being said, all of our ICS ROMs, wont really be 100%. They run, and for a lot of people, they run really well. But you may get stuttering and lockups and random reboots every now and then. Some apps like netflix don't work since we have memory and graphics issues. But everyone feels different about what is a deal breaker. I have been running ICS since we got it and love it. If you want a fully working ROM though, CM7 or Eclipse is the best way to go. But it doesnt hurt to try everything out at least once.
