[Q] Continous Reboot with overclock - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hey guys, I'm currently running CM6, and when I tried to upgrade to CM7, from the version with overclocking and undervolting added, my fone always reboot and lag continously, unusable until i restore using factory reset. It never happened with any previous version of CM7. A couple day back, I tried the overclocking tweak for CM6, and the same thing happens. I have to restore using Xrecovery. Does anyone knows what the problem is ? I really want overclocking function

stable overclocking is 768 or less.... this much i knw some dev will help you

You did say that you used the overclocking patch , but did not tell did you use SetCPU with set on boot option ? Also what is ur max and min settings in setcpu ?
Anyways , not sure if you will now be able to go inside setcpu , since ur phone is restarting.
On mini pro , for me 780+ Mhz caused reboot. And if you have setcpu set to set it on each boot , then u will end up in infinite loop. For me it happened , but luckily if you do not touch ur phone (touch screen touch ;-) ) after a reboot , it wont reboot (atleast for me).;
So after a reboot :
1. connect phone to PC
2. use adb to uninstall the setcpu
3. reboot again.
This time you should not be having trouble as your phone should behave normally.
Again install setCPU (if you are interested still !!) and set the max to anything below 760Mhz.

What should we do if there is the reboot loop but setcpu is already uninstalled? Or if its installed but overclock is not set on boot?

Hey thanks for the help, but I can't do anything at all with the phone after the patch, with or without setcpu. It booted up, on lockscreen, lag for 30sec and continous reboot then -.-''

will make much more sense letting people know what you have done. Just the normal OC module should not have ur phone rebooting.
Does the phone reboot if you do not touch it but just keep it connected to PC ? please answer or else its very hard to try and figure out an answer.
if you feel its causing an issue , then u got to figure out a way to disable that module.
The module gets loaded as x8oc.ko.
In CM6 - v4 , this is not there by default but will appear in hw_config.sh if you have patched it.
So u got to get /system/etc/hw_config.sh and comment out the line insmod for x8oc.ko and anything associate with it .

Did fresh install of v4 after factory reset, resulted in no overclock options and completely stable. Installed oc zip from cm6 oc thread which resulted in infinite reboots even when attached to pc, was not able to touch any settings. Reflashed v4 without factory reset and am back to no overclock and completely stable. Setcpu was not installed, recently installed on fresh v4, no options beyond 600mhz.

yep ..if u did a fresh install of v4 , it means the overclock is not functional as the module is not loaded in it.

Changelog for v4 says overclocked and undervolted, but never mind that. Installing oclock.zip as per instructions in that thread results in infinite reboot, does not stay up long enough to use adb shell or access setcpu. The fresh install of v4 does have overclock options in cyanogenmod settings, but values cannot be edited.
Are you implying that v4 will not support the oclock.zip or simply replying only to first sentence of explanation?
Any help is appreciated.

ok . so let me explain ( i know its quite hard on both ways ) . The overclock module (x80c.ko) is NOT loaded by the default V4 version. So if the module is not loaded Cyanogen setting will only show you the max (600 Mhz i thnk) and min (122 Mhz - I think). I did not find that module to be loaded in any of the init* scripts or in hw_config.sh. But the module is present with the build in the modules folder (but not active as its not loaded with insmod).
So if you just coming just after applying V4 - with no other patch. Then you do not have active overlocking module - hence overclocking wont work with SetCPU. Cyanogen does NOT provide you a scope to change the frequencies - you need setCPU - (you can change the max thru command line after enabling the module).
Now if you have patched the same with the oc patch , you have the module active (insmod works) , but another line of it in the hw_config.sh (patched one) does not become effective for me (some people reported it worked for them though).
The constant reboot which i faced was because i (with the help of SetCPU) had set very high frequency (causing the system to become unstable).
So inorder to fix it , you can do the following:
1. Full wipe through xrecovery
2. Apply V4 again.
3. Change hw_config.sh to add the insmod command to load x8oc.ko module.
4. Reinstall setcpu and see if you can set the max/min to safe values (say around 719 Mhz max and min as 300 or 400 Mhz).
5. If you see the system to be stable , well and good.
If by above , setCPU does not detect max/min (max should be 825 Mhz) , then you need to add the echo x27 > /proc/x8oc to hw_config just after the insmod line of x8oc.ko. (you will see some threads where sleep 2 or sleep 4 is also asked to be put in , but for unknown reason it did not work for me).
Whew!! that was long . But thats the way it worked for me.
For me when the reboots were happening , i had my phone connected to PC , but i was not touching the phone at all (if i touch , it used to reboot - but adb shell was working if i do not touch it).
If any further clarificaiton required , i would be glad to assist.
But before puting in a query , please try and give as much information was to what you did after which the reboots started (not just saying that i did the OC patch - cos for me just the OC patch never resulted into the reboots).

Thank you for that awesome explanation and sorry for the lack of relevant information earlier in the thread.
Should be able to do as you have suggested when I get home and will report back, either way your explanation has made it all clear and I can see where I have missed important steps. Many thanks.
Edit: edited hw config.sh, inserted insmod, sleep and echo lines. Stable ay 729, reboots at 748. Thanks again

good to know it worked !

same problem with my minni.... reboot again and again

Check your baseband, it must be xxx15 or it won't work because of different kernel

Nah got everything rite, basband and kernel, just when I apply the OC tweak, the fone would boot up, but freeze at lockscreen. IT DOES BOOT UP, BUT STUCK AT LOCKSCREEN !!! So bloody annoying, then stuck on bootloop until restore /system using xrecovery
Sent from my U20i using XDA Premium App

Don't apply the oversclock tweak from xrecovery, instead try editing hw_config.sh to have:
# x8 overclock
insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko
sleep 2
echo x27 > /proc/x8oc
I believe i had the same issue until i did this, then it was stable.

my mini max cpu is only 691 mhz or else the reboots and its laggy as hell. LIKE all your work every wear
have your lovely MDDI on to it help alot but still scrolling lag. maybe fresh install via seus?

[Q] Overclocking probblems

Hello
I've got a problem
well I'm using the Setcpu app and i've got everything to work and it's overclocking my LG Optimus t to 806MHz but sometimes it crashed the phone completely and I have to take the battery out because it's completely unresponsive.
dose anyone know what's the problem because I know my phone can do 806MHz but it just crashed after a hour or so.
Your phone obviously can't handle it. Set it to a lower clock speed. This is normal in overclocking. Not all copies of the same hardware are capable of the same speeds.
dam ok ill try 800MHz that might help
You should read about these things before you make any changes..... 730mhz is the stable clock speed that has been tested.
yh well I am new to Android so I don't know everything.
Dont push your CPU to do frequencies it cant. Unless of course you want an expensive paperweight.
748 Mhz is more than enough overclock. Infact Stick to 729MHz.
The simple rule for OC is to increase freq step by step. Increase one step. Test if its stable. If it is then increase one more step. Test again. If not stable decrease to the last stable state.
is it must root ur phone then can overclock the processor ?
yes but once you've rooted your phone and you've got a overclock app EG: setcpu.
but if it's not letting go past your phones original cpu frequency then you will need a to install a custom kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
That link will take you to a selection of kernels you can chose from.
Then put the ZIP file on the root of your SD card.
Then you will need to install it via your custom recovery mode and install it from your SD card.

6)Install 1.0.0.0 over the installed RC2(dont wipe or do anything)
7)Once done,reboot and open SetCPU
8)Check Frequencies
9)Goto CM Settings and Performance> CPU
9)Now you can set Frequencies in the CM settings menu
Constant FCs(Force Closes) using any Launcher:
Do not enable any profile in SetCPU
Switch off all other profile options like Screen off, charging etc.
Just use one OC i.e. 710/122 or 729/122 or 748/122
Unable to Install Angry birds:
1)Reboot into xrecovery
2)Wipe Cache Partition
3)Goto advanced
Wipe dalvik Cache
4)Reflash the rom(if it does not work the first time)
5)Install Angry Birds now again from Market
Audio/Video out of sync:
1)Goto Android Market
2)Install lgCamera
3)Goto options
4)Set:
Res to 640x480
Encoder- mp4
Video bitrate- 2 Mbit /1 Mbit
Video Framerate - Auto/30
Audio Codec - AMR_NB
Audio Source- Microphone
4)Even then if you get problems, set source to Camcorder
5)I recommend Not changing Audio Source
For Higher Picture Clarity(in lgCamera app):
Set:
Resolution to 2592x1944
Format to PNG
Takes 10-15 sec to store into PNG and pic quality will be about 1.25-1.5 times better
Its preferred for single shots, for successive shots go for JPEG
LauncherPRO giving problems:
1)Restart phone
2)Set defaults in settings of LauncherPRO
3)Still got any issues, install ADW.Launcher or GOLauncher EX
For Crashes/UnResponsiveness:
Set these in setCPU
Default CPU Freq. 710/122 or 691/122
Profiles, Frequency,Priority:
Screen Off :
245/122
55
Battery < 40%:
600/122
50
Temp. > 40 Degrees:
657/122
55
Charging:
691/122
50
Problems with Audio output:
Use MIUI Player,WinAMP,PowerAMP..
Any other player may also work, never tried...
For a few phones, problem exists even in leaked HoneyComb Music player..
I listen to music 2 -3hrs a day and never found an issue with any of these
TWEAK FOR ARABIC LANGUAGE:
Tweak is here
FOR OTHER PROBLEMS:
1)Try setting SD cache to 3072KB
Try using Lower CPU Freq/OC like 691/657 etc..
Use SetCPU to alter Frequencies rather than CM settings
2)Open the zip file goto to system/lib/modules/ and delete ocx8.ko and uvx8.ko
You can do this with winrar. Then copy zip file and flash again.
Since you cant get to root explorer its the easiest way
In winrar just highlight the files and hit delete
2nd issue helped a few being stuck at bootscreen in the ROM.. .Try it once...
These are all my Observations and the instructions I Followed..
Thanks to a few other people who helped me solve my problems...
SPECIAL THANKS to nobodyatall.. Thanks alot for such a great ROM...
Its a perfect ROM,but a few are unable to sort out a few issues.. So started a small thread..
Please post your solutions also over here,so the problems can be sorted out easily...
what do i do if the phone sticks and reboots while in use

If that is the case, just set the CPU freq to 691 or 710/122
and enable profiles in Set CPU
Create a profile such that on screen off,it goes to 245/122
and Battery<40% it goes to 600/122
and temp>40 degrees it goes to 657/122
I set to 710/122 after 3 crashes/reboots.. I think it depends on a high setting 748/245

@tejagamer--good job.
Hi guys,
This is my first attempt of installing custom rom on my x10 mini. Ok, so here's the deal. I rooted my x10 mini with SuperOneClick, downloaded TItanium Backup and installed BusyBox, then downloaded xrecovery from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=superoneclick (the newest one also doesn't work) and everything works fine. I restarted my phone, entered xrecovery without any problem, made backup and started installing the custom rom step by step with instruction. After the installation everything looked fine, installation have completed as it should (well I think so ); I also did 'Factory Reset after it, rebooted and from now on my x10 mini restarts all the time, once (it was a miracle probably), I made to the guide screen but after few seconds mobile freezed and restarted, and this happen over and over again. Any help will be appreciate.
Edit: Forgot to mention that my 'mini' meets all the requirements
Edit2: Now I'm trying to install RC2 and have the same problems, idk what to do, I did everything step by step with instructions, and NOTHING! I'm now pissed off a little.
Hey dude....
Follow the Instructions stated above from scratch once..
It will and should work on all devices if it has 2.1.1.A.06 and correct baseband version
Check the first post for the steps...
@sathkartha Thanks dude
I have done this many times and nothing helped, this ****ty mobile is unromable ;/
Try going to 2.1 Stock
Then Goto xrec
Do Full Wipe
then install the rom
and reboot
By restoring or installing clear one from SE?
Edit: OK nevermind I installed clear one from SE
Go to SE rom/Install it
Restart
Wipe all now/Full Wipe
Then try Installing mini CM
Now see if you have any problem..
There are interrupts when I listen to music from stock music player, any solution? Thank you!
Download winamp from market?
If it would solve the problem, yes. Do you think the player is responsible or the rom or overclocking (I have stock settings)?
Thank you!
Check winamp for now
Edit: tejagamer what did you mean by: 5)Reboot and use defaults for a while... Then reboot once again and then set your own options(to check if the Default one runs without any issues), Do I need to use launcher program? or what you meant by defaults?

Setcpu Rebooting

I installed Setcpu everything was working great till I lowered the the minimum Frequency to around 700MHZ & I checked the "Set On Boot". It started to reboot the phone continuously I went back unchecked the "Set on Boot" which helped but when I go back in Setcpu it would reboot again.
I tried setting the frequency to the max & it would freeze & reboot quicker. I tried putting the Setcpu safemode in the root of the sd card but it didnt do anything.
I uninstalled SetCpu & updated the RUU on my Rezound it solved the reboots & it seemed everything was running as normal until when the phone was auto-syncing the phone froze for about 10-seconds then everything was back to normal. I heard about flashing the .zip file but I don't know how & I'm not installing Setcpu again to find out.
I'm wondering if the freeze had anything to do with the SetCpu. Everything is deleted once you update the RUU so I don't believe there should be any left over files from the SetCPU. I'm not sure if there on my sd card I was thinking of formatting the SD.
It would never freeze like that before I installed the new update but I never did have Setcpu installed once I got the phone. So I'm wondering if this problem lies with the Setcpu or the new RUU update for the Rezound which is 2.01.605.11?
Probably SetCPU, if you tweak the setting too much (or putting it in awkward settings) it can create errors.
Might have to do with which kernel you are running. Some kernels, such as dsb, play better with certain cpu apps. dsb likes Antutu CPU Master.
Hmm could be something on the user side like kernel or perhaps if you installed a bad downloaded stock rom because I have have been using setcpu since day one with no errors on stock kernel on any rom. If you had a kernel installed prior it may still be installed which allows the cpu to ramp up to unstable speeds such as >1512 mhz.
Even if you were to try set an OC kernel to stable speeds, it will always ramp up to highest speeds, even higher than set. All in all, I would recommend to reflash stock kernel and made sure to flash boot.img which is most important. Hope this helps!

eh, dsb hasn't given me problems with SetCPU.
Weird
I only use setCPU, I have all the other ones too just about but they are all uninstalled because they usually just don't work as well, I use incredicontrol for undervolting, and that's it. Dsbs works with incredicontrol too... The kernel could be the issue and not the app but who knows

[Q] Can't get cpu frequencies to stick

I'm currently using meanrom ics 2.6 and I've tried butteredtoast kernel and anthrax and mac kernel and none will allow me to change frequencies on the fly. I'm wondering if it is a rom script or if anyone knows how to fix it. I have read that many people have had problems with anthrax kernels but i can't get them to stick with any and there isn't any real clear answers i could find, but a few of the same question.
and help would be greatly appreciated:good:.
If I remember right, meanrom has post boot scripts that set frequencies. You'll have to remove Mikey's tweaks. Look in init.qcom.post_boot.sh .
Do you know where his scripts are because i have deleted the init.qcom.post_boot.sh and the problem still persists
I have tried setcpu and cpu master and neither will keep the settings. They have changed for anywhere between 1 minutes to about 3 hours but i will turn on the screen and the widget and app will show the default speed of 1.5ghz

It'll unmount sdcard). <-- Don't add this fix, so don't bother with ICS UMS mount dialog.
How to install
Download rom and put it in sdcard.
Download Google Apps for CM10.2 and put it in sdcard.
Boot into recovery and Clear cache, dalvik cache and format /system. (Full wipe is recommended but not required if you came from CM 10.2)

Cannot connect to wireless access point
This problem mostly occur when you got some error at first boot. The problem is error interrupt startup service to write proper MAC address data to file. Your wifi mac address will be 00:00:00:00:00:00
Use file manager or adb to delete /data/misc/wifi folder from your phone
Reboot (disconnect usb cable to make sure there're no error at startup)
Great, gonna test and report later.
EDIT: Reporting
Bugs:
1-CyanogenMod account remote wipe does not work, nothing happens. Location works fine btw.
2-When downloading (eg an app from market) under wi-fi, it eats all the connection. I cannot download another thing or visit a web for a couple of seconds. Sometimes it gives a time out error, other times takes a while to start to download. If you dont download many things simultaneously you wont notice this. This could a problem with my router, but i dont recall this happening before with my old Defy.
3-ADB wont work on Windows 8 x64 for me, tried different drivers but LG E2 USB device never gets installed correctly.
4-GPS can only see 2 sat and never locks position.
N°2, 3 and 4 are bugs that i experienced also on the p760 version of CM10.2
Aside from those bugs, everything else seems to work perfectly, great work.
So how is 10.2 over 10.1.3? I'm using 10.1.3 and having no issues, I find the battery life to be slightly less than stock, mainly when 3G data is left on. I've disabled location access via 3G and WiFi and that has helped a little, Google Now is off also.
Is the battery life any better on 10.2? I found going from 4.2 to 4.3 on my nexus 7 to gave no benefits.
Also, to prevent posts in this thread of people getting security errors, I think it would be a good idea to link the bootloader unlock guide in the OP.

My battery life on 10.1.3 is better than stock (3G on) after use it for a while. After flash CM I notice that first day my battery life is not good as I expected. So I install cpu spy and wakelock detector to see what the problem. My phone don't go to deep sleep mode and that because of some apps (Line, Google keep, ...). I try to use it for a few day and the deep sleep problem gone, don't know why. The battery life is good when my phone enter deep sleep when I don't use it.

All that bugs come from CM 10.2, I just build it for those who want to test. I'll rebuild it again in a week or so to add any bug fix from CM (if any).
For GPS there're some people in P760 thread posted that it work with some fix. I don't test it yet.

In my case is like artit says, better battery life than stock (tough i use mostly wi fi and a bit of 3G), on deep sleep it only eats about 1% per hour, about 10.1.3 i dont see many diferences tbh, both of them works fine on our devices luckily. The battery life with the screen on all the time (playing games, surfing, messaging, etc) its 5 hours approx. Without touching it on deep sleep you can reach 24+ hours. Forgot to mention that i use many accounts (FB,G+, LINE, whatsapp, Skype, Cyano, Twitter) and i have auto sync activated always. Its a very good rom a good daily driver if you dont care much about the gps problems.

Yeah like i said, i experienced those bugs previously on the p760 version but i reported them here so everyone can see them. Thanks for taking the time to build this version.
I tried the suggested fix for GPS bug (modify the gps.conf file) but sadly, it didnt helped in my case.
Thank you for the replies guys. Ill try what you suggested about wakelock checking and using CPU spy, I'm sure I need to turn off a few Google apps or at least their syncing.
I'll try out this 10.2 version once I have everything fully setup to my liking on 10.1, then I can make a backup and switch back if needs be.
I wasn't aware of a GPS problem, but to be honest, I don't really use GPS.

I thought you said it only work with stock ROMs and not CM based ROMs?
EDIT: I found your patch, thanks a bunch

I seem to be haivng a problem keeping 10.2 installed. I have tried a clean install by wiping all directories but external_SD, and then installed 10.2, then gapps, then wiped caches and booted. I can boot up and use the phone fine but as soon as I turn it off, it just gets stuck on the LG logo on the bootup. I have tried fixing permissions and rewiping caches. I have also tried to go from 10.1 to 10.2 without data wiping and I get the same results, great first time round, doesnt boot after switching off. I have also tried full wipes, then install CM + GAPPS, then advanced restore just data from 10.1 then wipe caches then boot. Again with the same results!
Does anyone have any suggestions to keep CM10.2 working for me? (Other than never switching it off )
Thanks, donk165

I don't use this rom recently and build it only for testing so there may be bugs. I'll try to reproduce your issue and update source from CM to see if it's fixed.
IMO, stable version is more suitable for daily use. That's why I focus on stable version because I don't want to build CM nightly every 2-3 days.

I can't reproduce your issue. Umm... struct at LG logo, it's seem that there're something wrong about kernel or initialization files. What steps you did to get that problem?
I do following
- CWM back my CM 10.1.3 RC2 (I did it last week)
- Reboot to recovery
- Do full wipe, cache, dalvik cache, user data/factory reset then format /system (in mount/unmount menu)
- Install CM 10.2
- Install GApps for CM 10.2, gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip **** Not the same as for CM 10.1
- Reboot
- Login to CM account & google
- Install some app
- Do 2-3 reboot without problem
Then I test restore data from CM 10.1.3 RC2
- Reboot to recovery
- Advance restore from external sdcard
- Restore /data
- Reboot
- Re-login to CM account
- Phone work fine, but first reboot is longer than normal.
- Try to reboot 1-2 times, no problem.
Did anyone get this problem as donk165?
New build is up. I also include some kernel mod from my CM 10.1.3 for P768 rom and a sdcard re-enable patch for those that has no sdcard.
GPS work but took a long time. I'm not on this rom just test it and flash other one. If you have issue you can post here.
Re-upload latest release because it has minor error for UMS on windows. I fixed it now.

You don't need to OC, this rom default max frequency is 1008. If you don't want to OC just leave the value stay at 1008.
for save battery on this rom What I do?
and if overclock for always this will damage?

No need to do anything to rom configuration because it's a little bit Under Volt (UV) as I state in OP. It's should use less battery than official configuration.
If you still have battery drain problem, it almost come from phone not go into deep sleep mode. There're some app in your phone that keep phone awake. To find out what that app is, you can install "WakeLock detector" along with "CPU spy" to see if you phone goto deep sleep while screen off (CPU spy) and if not what is the problem (Wakelock detector).
For OC I don't use it but it shouldn't damage our phone. I also don't OC GPU because there're no preference for user to disable it.
I still can't get this Rom to stay booting. I can boot up after the install but once I reboot, it gets stuck on the LG logo. TWRP still works though so I can save my phone. But 10.2 doesn't like my phone. Its weird because 10.1 is fine.
My nexus also died when I put 4.3 on there, maybe 4.3 just doesn't like me lol.
