[Q] Issues with my battery draining - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running bionix v 1.3.1 with overstock 2.2.1 and voodoo with the KA7 modem. I can not figure out why my battery drains so fast. When I am not doing anything it drains at about 2% every 15-30mins. Thats with only data enabled. When I am using it, it just drains super fast. My battery condition is good so I do not understand. Can someone help me plzzzz.....

Are you overclocking with the overstock kernel? If so...make sure you have the governor set to "conservative" or "on demand". Conservative usually saves more battery though. Also..check your task manager...make sure you arent running 100 programs at once.
Make sure your screen brightness is low. Sounds like you have either a battery that needs replaced or you have unknown processes running.
maybe going back to Overstock 1.5 without overclock would be an option for you.

My screen is set to automatic. I use advance task killer to make sure everthing is closed. It tells me my batt is 100%. I havent had the phone but a couple of months. I have it overclocked set to on demand.

Happens to me all the time. You need to reconditioned the battery and then it ll fix itself after couple of cycles.
Sent from samsung vibrant

How do I do that? Just let it drain all the way? It does that everyday

Super IO kernel

I hear it has excellent battery life. And im on stock froyo no bloatware with a jk2 modem, I just want to see good battery life. Also. Could I flash any kernel over any rom? Or is there 2.1 and 2.2 specific roms? Help!!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes,there are different kernels for 2.1 and 2.2,but JK2 is 2.2,and so is the superio kernel. You should be ok with flashing the kernel, but just in case, make a nandroid backup, worst case scenerio just odin back to jk2,then restore nandroid backup (nandroid doesnt backup/restore the kernel).
not really liking this kernel.. my battery drained 28% overnight.. that has never happened with any other kernel..
I went from Saturday @ ~4pm until Sunday @ ~9pm
This was with full GPS while driving, listening to podcasts, watching videos for nearly two hours, and general calls and webbrowsing.
I still had ~20% battery left.
I pulled the phone off the charger this morning, and will run it dry to see what my "normal" uptime would be, and will post it tomorow.

What if I used a different rom. Anything in particular?

that's not the kernel buddy, superIO is stock..
that means you have something else eating away at your battery.

well it seems like it is the kernel.. i went from DoW 1.4 to this and my battery life went down instead of improving. i dont run any widgets and dont have anything running in the background. so i dunno
Odin JFD, root, Axura 2.1ve, SuperIO kernel... Super flake.
With the kernel it takes at least two minutes to get a cellular data lock on the phone. Without it, it takes less than a second for 3g or 2g to lock in.
While it does significantly speed up the phone, I will use a lag fix instead until the "real" fixed kernel comes out.
Honestly, I have never had much luck with Eugene kernels. Every kernel I have tried has had something flaky going on. Without exception so far.
To be fair, it could be the ROM I am using. I will try another ROM just to check it.
if you are switching from 2g to 3g frequently, your battery might get sucked dry due to the radio issues mentioned in my post above.
I suggest you pay attention to what the radio (H/3g/Edge/GPRS Icon) is doing. Might not be related, but I could see it possibly draining the battery.
24 Hours with Super-IO + Nero b3
Super sweet kernel.
EXCEPTIONAL battery life, improved snappyness, and memory management.
There's hardly ever a lockup, and everything seems to just... work.
Does this kernel have overclocking capabilities?

I'm running the same set up! Flashed this kernel yesterday. Battery is amazing! I wiped the batt stats to do conditioning last night at 8. I was trying to drain the battery as quick as possible so I had gps and wifi on and I played youtube videos and media hub trailers non stop till it died finally at 130. So streaming with the screen on the entire time I got 5 and a half hours. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
Do I need to disable oclf before I flash this kernel? I'm using nero 3 right now with oclf.
Thanks in advance

It is based off of the stock Kernel, however Eugene in all his brilliance fixed all the battery drain and greatly improved the IO. Hence why there is significantly improved battery life along with no lag.
On typical use, web browsing, messaging, phone calls, my phone easily lasts about 2 days. Truly amazing work
where can I download the super IO kernel?

Any 2.2.1 roms out there with decent battery life yet?

I'm big on battery life so wondering if any 2.2.1 roms have decent battery life yet before flashing one.
My battery life has always been pretty good but it started going downhill after messing with set CPU without really knowing what I was doing so I uninstalled the app. I've never wiped my battery stats. Any benefit in doing this?
people have different views on different roms but from mostly reading up as a noob i have noticed it is the kernel and modem that you are running that matters. so try to do some research on it. and see which one fits best.

i havent flashed alot like only 4 to 6 roms, and not to disrespect any of the developers but i have only used 2 types, trigger and team whiskey roms. both are good in my opinion. i dont do much fancy stuff just text call use data sometimes play games etc etc. regular use.
another thing i did to save battery life was turn 3g/4g off when i am not using it. just to leave it on eats battery alot. im very new and still learning. this is just an opinion.
above in the noob guide sticky you can find how to recalibrate your battery for maximum power as well. i will be doing that as well since i missed on that part.
i have never till yet flashed a different kernel or modem, but for kernel after reading a lot i have seen that people prefer tigerblood or somethign like that kernel. with their roms.
i hope this helps
I suggest an an called Tasker (from the market) which will let you set a profile that turns off data when the screen is turned off. Saves a lot of battery power.
Oh, yeah, of course you should set screen brightness to 10% and use a Dark homescreen.
Never had to do any of those things. But always had at least a full day's use out of one charge.

Same here, best battery life I've had to date I think. However, I'm not texting much right now and that seems to kill my battery faster than anything.
ToXIC HEROES/TOXIC SMOKE - its freaking awesome and fast as hell with Voodoo and Fugu Tweaks enabled.
Edit:Sorry misread the OP topic - Toxic Smoke is a 2.2 ROM not a 2.2.1.

"smoothest" kernel with best battery life?

Am using bali now and it gives great battery life, but it is not as smooth as say... overstock. Is there any kernel which gives a balance between the two?
ones gotta give
Not sure what you're seeing but smoothness you're talking about probably has more to do with the rom than the kernel. If you flashed both kernels I'm sure you wouldn't see much difference between the two without the boot screen.

Did you try the overstock UV kernel? You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861
It is the Overstock 1.5.2 UV download, it is designed to save battery life. You can also try SUPER_DragonMODz ULP, another battery saving kernel, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049894
I literally just got onto the bullet kernel from Bi-Winning, and it has the smoothest i've noticed, but its only been a hour or two since i got on this rom with the kernel so... idk i cant say about battery right now.
I have to say, be careful with SUPER_DragonMODz kernel... For me it almost burned up my phone. Phone was just sitting on the table when I sense the burn The phone was hot as hell...
All dragonmodz kernels are great I ulp has amazing battery life, oc and normal both give me great battery life too with no overheat for me, wayyy less then bullet (has much higher voltage settings) just don't use any setcpu profiles (except for 400/100 screen off) and I suggest conservative govener

Might try calibrating battery. If so battery may be shot from improper care (i.e. leaving phone in hot car.)

Check how old your battery is. You might need to replace it. Or you can just ODIN back to stock and see how long you last on stock ROM and kernel and see if your battery lasts.

[Q] best kernal for bionix v 1.3.1?

just flashed bionixs v 1.3.1 and wondering what you all think i should run for the kernal? like to overclock a bit but save battery at the same time. ideas?
Bali 1.2
Sent from my SGH-T959
What are you looking for with the kernel
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
^ what he said.
To expand on that, you have two Bali variants to choose from if you're looking for battery life to be better. There is Bali-X 1.2, which is overclockable to 1.2ghz and gives you total control of undervolting (with the use of Voltage Control app). This is more for hands-on use, where you can tinker with different voltages for potentially greater battery life savings with deeper UV action from -25, -50, -75, and so on across all frequencies.
If you just want something simple right out the box that you don't have to tweak anything to, there is Bali 1.8.8UV. This is a kernel (kernel, not kernal, please make note of that for the future ) which is -25 all across the board. This is the "flash it and forget it" kernel if you don't feel like doing any tinkering around and want the benefits of an undervolted kernel and don't really have or feel the need for the 1.2ghz availability.
Link for Bali is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043947
Happy flashing!

Check out an app called Battery Graph which gives you a simple visual of your battery use over time. Also, don't forget to do battery calibration (using a handy app by the same name) to reset your battery stats for a fresh start on the new kernel.

Try project V anf Bali X you'll forget where you left your charger.
Vibrant+MIUI
im gonna rock this rom for awhile.
I've tried most kernels and put them under the same controlled stress tests.
On my phone, Bali 1.2 is the winner.
Allows you to OC/UV whichever way you want. Use Voltage Control or SetCpu to play with the settings.
Immortality is a close second but I'd still go with Bali for a smidge better battery life.

They do. I'm running Bali 1.8.8 and it works but others have better luck running the Overstock kernel. You could also find Jellette's thread and get the s.gps.2.zip file (not in the op but like around pg.20 so u gonna have to look) and flash it then download Samsung gps restore from the market and run that then you should be set.
