Help - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one have a link to the stock kernel for the eclair fascinate. Its my friends. He flashed the ec10 voodoo kernel. I have got voodoo disable but need a flashable stock eclair kernel to fix this.
Do yeah. I still need it. Ok looking through the forums now. I have found the package to Odin back to stock but would preffer to just flash the stock kernel. This fixed my mesmerize at one time. Don't know if it will work now. Any help would be appreciated
Edit. Gonna try the method in the sticky. See what that does.
The steps in the stickey fixed it. This was mostly my fault cause he asked me if the ec10 kernels was ok. Never crossed my mind he was still on eclair. Anyway got him on 2.2 using the Odin files. Love that program. Sorry for takin up a thread. I should have just done the Odin thing from the start. Lesson learned.

How do I flash just the kernel?

I have researched this and am getting more confused by the minute. I have installed Bionix Final stock and I am considering going back to ji6. I have read that I must flash the ji6 kernel even though I dont believe that bionix changed the kernel. When and how must this be done? After flashing to ji6? I would most appreciate it if someone could tell me the steps taken to flash just the kernel or if that is even necessary and also if I can just flash through Clockwork to go back to stock ji7 when Froyo is sent OTA. Would it be safer or easier to just use Odin? Any and all replies are most appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the reply but I read this thread and still am confused. Sorry I am not as informed or astute as you are. Let me mention I am a complete nubie and am looking for simple steps or instructions or answers. I am continuing to search the threads for more information. Its becoming evident to me that I should never have flashed Bionix Final as it appears that there is not a lot of support or help for nubies who have questions and do not understand some of the procedures or terms.
Bionix fusion is based on ji6. It does not actually use the ji6 kernel. It is using a modified jfd kernel so I would not recommend flashing ji6 kernel over the top of it. If you would like to go back to the stock ji6 I recomend odin back to it. But if you wanted you could use jacs kernel or kings kernel if your not happy. Fusion also came in three flavors stock, jacs, kings.
Friends don't let friends flash drunk...
Thanks so much for the helpful reply. Does Bionix final have the same kernel as the fusion does? I am on Bionix Final. I will use Odin to flash back to ji6. Would I use just the tar and pit or do I have to repartition as well? It seems the swype keyboard I am so fond of will not go into landscape mode nor will any of the other keyboards. I have checked the settings and can find nothing that would affect this situation. That is one of the reasons I am contemplating going back to ji6. thanks again for the help and kindness. any info on my other questions is greatly appreciated.
All the bionix roms are using the modified jfd kernel. Im using bionix final r1 and im not having any problems with swipe. I find it to be the best touchwiz rom out there. If you do want to go back to stock use the 512 pit amd the ji6 tar and you don't have to check the repartition box. But if your like me and flash lots of roms I would check the box to get all the ghosts out of the closets (fix force closer issues).
Friends don't let friends flash drunk...
Thanks again. I will put your information to good use. I may stay on bionix final for a while longer. I am overjoyed that I now have the correct procedures to flash back when the time comes. Many thanks and Blessings.

Need some help if anyone is willing

Ok can someone answer a few questions for me I have a stock vibrant with a stock 2.6.29 kernel and would like to flash a new kernel so I can begin overclocking but I would also like to flash back to my original kernel just in case can anyone explain how to make a back up or do this any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

so you have a stock Vibrant...you wanna overclock?
Are you rooted? Im pretty sure that too run a different kernel you need a diffrent rom other than the stock JFD.
You might get more answers if you posted in the right section.
Its the ji6 I think

ok well 1st off - know that what your about to do can potentially brick or damage your device and that myself, xda, jesus, mary and the hly ghost, the hobo behind the walmart and your aunt frank have nothing to do with this so you can only blame yourself
i would get to know ODIN real well first off. make sure you are able to get into download mode. via the hardware method OR ADB
use the Vibrant bible to find info on that.
I apologize guys I'm assuming this belongs in q&a

Not trying to be a wiseguy but:
Read the "Vibrant directory ( Bible ) and search this forum. Look for the subjects you're interested in. All questions are answered you just need to study before you start.
Learn how to use odin - if you follow the links you will have everything you need to get back to stock in an emergency.
Read about and learn how to use one click root.
Read about and learn how to use Rom Manager to flash roms
Use Titanium backup to backup your apps
Good luck and have fun!
Ok real quick I have odin I have the stock vibrant rom from xda I am pretty good with this stuff just new to this phone I also have a few roms but kinda wanna wait for 2.2 but would like a new kernel I have rom manager and a back up of my rom but I am having a problem getting adb to work just been using the terminal apk but I need help.with this and thank you for your time

everything works as it should and its fast and very stable.
OP you need to spend a couple hours reading and understanding several things. Most if not all you need is in the vibrant bible thread. If you can't get adb to work its almost always the driver. Must understand odin just in case something goes wrong. Its hard to truely brick this phone but not impossible.

No, that only saves your data and apps. You need to save it or you can use the ones located in the vibrant library. You can always revert back to stock using odin but do so AT YOUR OWN RISK... Good luck

The Bible is the greatest thing EVER.
Just seriously use how to use Odin. If you can learn how to get into download mode consistently and connect to odin successfully you will be fine. Then learn how to use recocery, which is very easy on the vibrant. you just install ROM manager from the market and flash clockwork mod recovery. learn how to backup and restore and you can flash things through recovery. Zips are for recovery, and Tar files are for Odin. If you want to OC i recommend "Corev2" by team whiskey (since JAC has dissapeared) which works with most ROMs and should work well with stock rooted. There is Odin files and zip files for stock kernels, jfd and ji6, which you could just flash over if you dont like it. Nandroid backups dont backup kernels, so make sure you have the right kernel on when you restore something. You can find everything in the BIBLE like everyone has told you to try. One word of the wise, if you load a Froyo 2.2 on your phone and then revert back to 2.1, make sure you flash a 2.1 kernel first before you restore. So many people think they brick after they do that.
And usually if you are waiting for official firmware, it appears here on XDA ready to flash (i flashed official ji6 before it was availible OTA) at some point. I would recommend you use a rooted ji6 ROM with Corev2 (and possibly the ji2 modem to save battery life but i like the ji6 modem) this will let you OC and UV without setcpu. this is kind of a scattered response but im just trying to help. I am running AOSP jk2 1.1 by Anderdroid and i LOVE IT.
It looks like you have everything ready on your phone.
Just learn Odin, you don't really need ADB. Make sure your phone can go into the download mode via the vol up and vol down key and connect USB cable for download mode. Its a Triangle Icon with android robot with shovel.
There you should load the Pit file and Tar file to flash back to Stock in case you brick you phone. As far as flashing ROM goes, remember this!!
If you flash a 2.1 Kernel + ROM like Fusion 1.2, and create a Nandroid backup through ClockWork. Then decided to go to a Froyo 2.2 kernel + ROM like Obsidian or MacnutR11 to try out. Do not restore Nandroid backup to 2.1, it will brick your phone requring u to ODin back to stock.
Bottom line 2.1 ROM will not work with 2.2 kernel and 2.1 kernel will not work with 2.2 ROM. Don't mix them up.
Basically if you are running a 2.1 kernel + rom, then switch to 2.2 kernel and rom. For some reason you don't like it, make sure you flash back to 2.1 kernel + rom instead of doing a nandroid restore.

Volume buttons are messed up after flash

I rooted my vibrant, installed CWM,update voodoo on stock froyo, but couldn't get the voodoo lagfix work(can't mount, file existing errors). So I disabled lagfix and flash a stock 2.1, upgrade to 2.2, and then flash in the voodoo 5.5 with Odin.
It works now but somehow in between the process, it messes up my volume buttons. Up is now Down and Down is now Up, I remember this behavior in CWM too but I thought that's how it works in CWM. So I guess it's not OS's problem. However, I'm not really familiar with linux so I really need your help. I'd appreciate any input.
Are u sure u didnt flash a i9000 rom and/or kernel?

If so, i'll flash back a stock JFD and just wait.

If you head over to the vibrant android development forum there is actually an array of different roms you can try with different kernels. I would however suggest odin back to stock first and see if that fixes your mapping problem, just to make sure it's software and not hardware related.
Theirs ur problem their is 2 kernels for vibrant(i think) flash one of those and u will b good....last resort odin back to stock

[Q] which is the better debloated stock rom

Hey folks
Well I have had my share of messups with my vzn fsc.
Things are settled now as I have been Ble to figure out the stuff.
So after trying superclen, evilfascination, and community rom I have come to the conclusion that personally (and no offence to no one) I like the stock roms more but without the samsung and verizon bloatware.
Could you great guyz suggest me the best debloated and all stock rom which is smooth to operate, has great battery life and doesnt hVe any known issues.

If you followed the steps by dnoyeb, then you are correctly set up on a debloated/deodexed ED01 ROM. Your baseband is the modem/radio and would not have changed after you followed Adrynalyne's post to get to ED01 quickly. You flashed imnuts' ED03 ODIN package which would have given you the stock ED03 ROM and kernel, but not the ED03 modem so you were still at ED01 modem which is fine. Then you followed dneyob's steps to flash the ED01 Debloated/Deodexed ROM which would have changed you to the ED01 build from ED03 build. For all intents and purposes ED01 and ED03 are the same thing. ED03 simply added in a fix for those people who could not receive the ED01 OTA update. The verizon and android both flashing at the same time is just an overlapping boot animation that happened because as I recall you could not do a complete data wipe/factory reset for fear of losing the verizon network while you are in India. So other than that little quirk of the overlapping boot animations, you should be exactly where you wanted to end up - a debloated ED01 ROM and with imnuts' -100mv kernel you should see better battery life if your phone can handle the undervolting.
Congrats!
i guess i did exactly as you have outlined,
i am now gonna caliberate the battery and will revert tomorrow about the backup and stuff
love ya

when i first was learning how to root and flash, the thread for the evilfascination rom taught me everything i know. it does a great job in describing the steps to root and then flash the rom. i personally stuck with the evil fascination because its been so stable from the getgo and i love the overall theme of it. I suggest you go to the fascinate android development forum, and read the evil fascination thread.

missed call was the issue which i am trying to solve with softlocker, seems to work

[Q] Is there a ED04 update.zip available?

I've only been able to find the ED04 modem update. I have not been able to receive OTAs since I reverted from the GB leak. I ODINed DL09 and used EA28 & ED01 update.zips and am now on ED01. Every time I've tried OTA, I get "Server Unavailable".
Odin back to DLO9 and allow the ota from there. Something about changing up the build (such as different baseband than build) messes with the ability of the phone to properly connect to ota. The update zips may change something that is essential to ota. I am not certain but I have used this method consistently due to problems with others. I could be mis-interpreting your problem but I think you will find that ota will work with DLO9 as the starting point.

Thanks for helping but If I'm not mistaken, I tried to OTA from DL09 & DI01 but failed, which is why I used the update.zips from here to get to ED01. I never had a problem before I tried the GB leak.
You say you reverted from gb..was that an mtd gb leak? If so did you use the atlas2.2 pit file in the re partition box and revert with the official vzw tar( the dl09 or eb01) when you used odin? If you did not, I'm sure that will cause issues.
I'm not sure it will help your specific issue you have, but I know you always have to use those to revert back from an mtd setup.

I reverted from the GB leak from p3droid, after ruining a SD card.
I tried again returning to DI01 & DL09 with Odin. I used the atlas2.2 pit file as recommended. OTA still says Server Unavailable. I've tried it from different locations to make sure it wasn't a signal issue.
Any suggestions? Would love to be able to receive OTAs again and be fully updated. Stuck on ED01 through manual zip updates.

Yup it sure is
I would try using odin to push the vzw official eb01 tar with the atlas 2.2pit and repartition checked
Let it boot fully and then try ota...I know if your modem doesn't match your rom it may cause ota update errors

I really appreciate the help guys. Going to figure this out sooner or later.
I've tried going back to DI01 & DL09. Those were the official versions and what I've always done & I tried the atlas 2.2pit file as suggested earlier. I've also tried installing EB01, which I think was a Froyo leak.
Before, if I tried an OTA and wasn't on an official version, it would say No Update Available. Now, it doesn't matter if I'm on DI01, DL09, EB01 or ED01, it says Server Unavailable. I never had the problem before until I tried the GB leak.
Thanks again for the help and would appreciate any further ideas.
The first time I flashed a rom I knew I was never going back to stock...might I ask why do you want stock? warranty issues? I know its all a matter of personal preference and I don't know how much of a difference there is between ed01 and ed04 but I know landshark made an ed01.tar that is stock and will get you close to what is currently stock..might even wanna try and odin that and see if you can ota from there?..just thinking out loud really.

here is how to get back to stock and update without huge OTA's
Thanks for the assistance. I've updated to ED01 with the update.zips on here. Would like to get to ED04. ED04 supposedly had some tweeks for OTA improvement (ironic) and less missed calls. Any ideas to get OTA working again would be appreciated.

Once you ODIN back to DL09, there is a post about how to get to ED04 without the huge over the air updates. It basically involves ODIN'ing DL09, then using CWM to flash a zip that will take you straight to ED04. I used it after I was already on CM7, and it works if you are on other roms as well.

Getting to ED04 (modem) quickly:

The modem one...was the most useful thing EVER.
out of curiosity, i have cm7 on DI01 and i am not getting messages and the messages i send are blank. would any of these methods fix the problem? im thinking it could be the radio. I had the OTA Ed04 but for some reason had to go back to DI01 to flash the rom.

I although radios are rom/kernel independent, I don't know if the radio is completely the problem but I wouldn't use that old if a radio with that new of a rom...
I have had excellent results with the ec09 radio...radio reception and quality seems to vary from phone to phone so try a few but thats just my 2 cents

Thanks much. I hear ec09 and ed04 are good ones. I searched under the cm7 forum but is there an exact forum that has those to download including instructions

I would try both and since the ec09 needs to be unzipped and then flashed (its not hard but its a lil extra work..either way id leave it for last unless your comfortable unzipping files) the install instructions are right in the same post with the link to download..its in the dev section
I would try ed01 or ed01 first because those are available in an odin version..enter download mode..flash in odin...done..if you don't like either of those, ec09 works great for me
They can all be found in the development section. In the stickies there is a post nitsuj wrote with a list of all roms/kernels/recoveries and radios find then all there
