I am new to all this Android stuff and I am looking for help.
What I have done:
1. I had HTC Hero with official 2.1 never rooted.
2. I did a hard reset (I guess it failed because it went really fast (max 5 sec.) and after that I was not able to boot the phone).
3. I looked for help and found this tutorial.
1. Take out your memory card. FORMAT TO FAT32!!!
2. Download the RUU 2.73.405.5 from HTC support homepage
3. Run the installation.
4. When it fails to find your phone DON'T EXIT!!!
5. If you are using Windows 7 go in to c:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Temp
6. Search for ROM.zip
7. Move to desktop
8. Rename to HEROIMG.zip
9. Transfer to your newly formated memory card
10. Put memory card into phone
11. Start phone holding volume down pressed.
12. It will now check zip fil and then ask if you want to install.
13. homekey for YES
14. After installing you have 1.5 again and can safely upgrade to 2.1 OTA

4. Did everything like said there but I am having problems in the HBOOT. I have tried to restore three times and every time it freezes at the "Radio_V2 - Updating". (Screenshot attached)
What could I do to get my phone back to normal (or maybe rooted)??
Thank You for support!!
Are you sure your phone isn't rooted? I know when I was trying to update my phone before I knew it was rooted, I tried to install the standard firmware and failed everytime. I used a version someone made for rooted phones and it worked fine after that. Maybe you can try that!
My phone had been rooted before I even bought it, i bought it in Singapore.
It could not be rooted. I bought it in the official LMT store here in Riga and I have never tried to root it. Always the official stuff.
Anyway I could try to instal version for rooted phone. Can anyone give me a link to one because I do not have any idea where could I find one.
All those errors are major problems, are you sure the zip file is complete? i.e it is the size it should be. Also its a major no-no to remove the battery or reboot the phone while it is flashing the radio.img , this can/will cause bricks.

Ok. I checked the size of ROM file and it is all fine.
What should I do? I am 100% sure the phone has never been rooted or somehow hacked in any other way.
Please, does anyone have any suggestions?
Like I said before if you pulled the battery while it was flashing a radio you may have pricked your phone, but why not try downloading the ruu from HTC and running it on your computer.

i was recently at the movies (prince of persia =P ) and i accidentally left my screen on in my pocket... after the movie was over i took my phone out and all i saw was a multi colored screen with red green blue white (boot loader?) i tried everything to restart my phone to get back to my Os but seems everything was somehow wiped clean. i got home and have been spending all day trying to install new roms and each time when i run the RUU updater, it says image: (blank), the installer still runs and seems likes it works but no rom is installing i am still stuck with the multi colored screen. how can i salvage my phone, what could be wrong? =/ thx guys
i tried installing a new rom from the bootloader screen while connected via usb... but everything i try gets stuck at 0% and doesnt do anything... my hardspl is currently not unlocked and i am constantly trying to install the Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.exe and everytime... stuck at 0% on the phone..
Try the flash from memory card method:
1. Find a ROM that would be compatible with your phone, and download the nbh file. (I would recommend Original Carrier ROM - There is copies all over forums - that way it will flash everything, including the radio)
2. Plug your memory card to a computer and verify/format the card into FAT32 file system
3. Copy the ROM file (usually RUU_Signed.nbh) into the memory card directly (not inside any folder) and rename to RAPHIMG.nbh
4. Reboot the phone
5. When it reboots into three-color screen again, there should be a message that in order to flash you need to press Power button or so. Do it.
6. After your phone is working again, you might flash it with another ROM if you like.
Let me know...
Good luck
try theses two options, either flash back to stock rom which might fix the issue, but before you do that just flash a radio to the phone that should fix the issue

That's the reason I recommended flashing stock ROM. Verizon released Maintenance Release, which is a complete reflash with radio and everything.
You could get Verizon complete file from: http://pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=110&cid=1&mid=328&carrier=Verizon Wireless
You didn't specify which carrier you are with so I can't help any further. Just remember to extract the .nbh file from inside instead of putting a whole .zip file on the memory card. I hope I didn't come across wrong.
Hello! I recently got a replacement for my Optimus V. It was having signal and SMS problems, so they decided to send me a replacement. I noticed this replacement has android 2.2.2 froyo pre-installed. so the first thing I tried was to root it with Rom Tools, but it didn't work, so I looked around and found Gingerbreak. Rooting was successful, and i had SuperUser privileges. So then I tried installing a custom recovery with RomTools, and it still told me I wasn't rooted. So then I tried Rom Manager, and it notified me the custom recovery was flashed, so i rebooted, and i just get a back-lit black screen. So then I tried booting into the bootloader, and it just boots to Android again, any idea why this is happening? Have they locked the bootloader?
I hope not, but that would I explain why I haven't been able to root my wife's "new" replacement phone.
Success!
Finally got my wife's phone rooted using GingerBreak. Restoring her apps (via TiB) as I type this.
FYI, I basically followed these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13170826&postcount=171

Not all phones are created equal. Make sure you have a stock 2G SD card formated to the default settings It gets really picky about the sd card some times. The more stuff on your sd card the longer it will take. Turn on USB debugging, your not going to plug it into your PC,but you need to have it enabled or the exploit wont work. Make sure you have a good file manager like Super Manager installed on your phone. Download the Gingerbreak.apk. With the file manager go to sdcard/downloads or download. Move the exploit to the root of the sdcard(somewhere near the bottom of the list of folders). Open up the exploit and select install. Once it's done installing the exploit to your phone select done, exit. Reboot phone. Go to app draw and select the exploit, select run. It might take up to 10 min.for it to run. If it goes 12min.pull battery and try again(it could take several tries). You must reboot after every failed attempt. If you get an error message it does not like your SD card. Reformat to default settings using you computer and try again. If you are using a sd card that is not 2G it might not work. Once it reboots and you are looking at your home screen, you are rooted. Now go to the market and download Busybox installer. With a file manager go and check where su has been installed. It's either /system/bin or /system/xbin. Install Busybox wherever su is. Go back to the market and update Super User. Gingerbreak will not install the proper flash_image to flash a custom recovery, but, You can use ROMTools to flash Xionia recovery,or ROM Manager to flash ClockworkMod recovery. Once you have a custom recovery on your phone you need to make a nandroid backup of your system because now that your ROOTed you now can delete things you may not want to, then it's to late. AHH, But you made a backup that you can restore and your phone is as good as new again....P.S.Sorry no links, till I have 8 or more posts,at least I think that's what it said

With power on,pull sd card. Put your sd card into PC and copy(don't move anything off the sd card)the contents into a new folder. Put the sd card back into phone with power on. If it boot's up properly let me know. You should be able to power off and on and it boots up properly. Don't do anything more to it until you let me know(your going to have to change some permissions on some files, check Busybox install,etc.).

Type in 2(enter). Type in 2 (enter) Allow SuperOneClick to establish a Shell Root(temporary Root)click ok and close small window but not SuperOneClick. Click on command prompt window to bring it to the front. Type in 4(hit enter key). Let it do it's thing. If it was successful it will say so. Now try and pull SD card out with power on. Put SD card back in with power on.
Hello.
My phone is starting to act funny, it has the quite common problem where the touch function on the bottom half of the screen stops working properly.
Since I'm going to send it in, I'd like to return everything to as close to the shipping state as possible. I don't care if I still have Clockworkmod left on it or if I make it unrootable, since I'm going to buy a new phone and sell this one when the contract runs out in a few months anyway.
I've tried searching for the info I need but there are still some things I'm unclear about.
The phone is currently running VillainMod and has ClockWorkMod installed as a bootloader. I was running CM on it until a few days ago, but I tried installing a Sense-based ROM to see if I could get the RUU .exe method to work, but it fails after the phone has rebooted and just says that it cannot update the phone. Any ideas what's causing this? (I used the file RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed.exe)
So since the "official" method failed I found the rom.zip that is unpacked by the RUU program and copied it.
Here is where I'm not sure how to proceed. Should I sign the zip-file (using testsign.jar) and then do "apply update.zip" from ClockWorkMod OR should I extract the boot.img, data.img, recovery.img, system.img and radio.img files from the zip, generate a md5 file (how?) and restore it using the backup feature in Clockwork?
Or is maybe both of these ideas totally of the mark?
Any help is appreciated. Do tell if there is some more info you need.
I personally don't think you should go with that plan. I'm not a big scientist when it comes to phone development since I'm still learning. But I think you should go backwards and check what went wrong.
Edit:
I also think that the new rom might have different requirements from the previous one. Usually that causes a problem if you try to flash a rom without fitting the requirements.
No you need to rename the Rom.zip to heroimg.zip then shut down phone and reboot into hboot mode by using power and vol down
MY TBOLT MUST DID THE OTA OR ATLEAST TRIED TO WHILE I WAS SLEEP NOW IT KEEPS POWERING OFF THOUGHT I HAD ROM MANNAGER TO RESTORE A BACK UP OFF MY SD BUT IT MUST DIDNT INSTALL AFTER LAST UPDATE I ONLY HAVE JUST THE PREMIUM LICENSE. I THOUGHT IT WOULD STAY POWERED LONG ENOUGH TO GO DL ROM MANAGER IN THE MARKET BUT IT WONT. I TRIED DL THE NEW OTA SO I CANN PUT IT ON MY SD AND FLASH HBOOT BUT IT KEEPS NAMING WITH THE .ZIP.ZIP EXT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I RENAME IT WHAT CAN I DO I LOOKED HERE http://www.thunderboltforums.com/fo...-get-rid-ota-forced-reboots-rooted-phone.html BUT I NEED ROM MGR DO I NEED TO DL A STOCK AND UNROOT IT WHAT CAN I DO.... HELP PLEASE SAD PART I WORK FOR VZW AND I KNOW HOW THEY DO WITH EQUIP CHARGEBACKS
First, locate your caps lock and TURN IT OFF. Next locate your period key and put them on the end of your sentences. Making sense of your post is giving me a headache.
Now, on your computer you need to disable the "hide file extensions for known file types" option to fix the zip.zip problem. Can't give you exact directions since you didn't say which os you're using.

I have the same problem and I tried to get in through the clorkworkMod adb shell, but the device is not recognized by adb...? When the device boots up it is recognized. with my DINC I could use the shell while in clorkworkmod.
Is it showing as device offline or not showing the device at all. If its offline, through cmd, close adb server, then start it back up, half the time that fixed that problem for me. If its not showing at all, try setting it to HTC Sync i believe was the one i had to do at one point for it to register. I've rooted 4 times using ADB method and each time its been a little different, so i can't narrow down what i'm doing wrong to help you more with the adb, sorry.

Hi All and thanks to all the cats on here that willfully give their knowledge! I have a Tbolt - Rooted with Revolutionary, stock rom (removed VZ Bloat via Titanium ), but this latest OTA update is not leaving me alone. I try to reject it and magically a few days later I get out of nowhere reboot and then the android exclamation point with a triangle. I use the Clockwork Mod Recovery to wipe data cache and reboot which makes the update manager get upset saying it failed. The error I see in Clockwork is this:
CWM Recovery V5.0.2.1
E: Failed to verify whole file signature
E: Signature Verification Failed
Install Aborted
So how can I get this update (I am assuming it is to fix the HTC fail for new exploit out there) which I think would be a good thing. I am not ready to flash a custom ROM yet so please don't reply saying "Just flash with my favorite ROM"
Thanks ahead of time!
It pushes the update, and if you don't reject within 3 mins, viola, you have a nice new update. If you can still get into recovery, which it sounds you can, install a stock rooted either full or debloated. Thats the updated equivalent to what you have now. Make sure you grab the rooted though. Here is the full rooted (not debloated) http://www.multiupload.com/H06XI7W380

I'd probably wipe cache and dalvik cache, but you can probably leave data since you're staying stock.
Thanks for the direction nbdysreal!
A few weird things are happening on my phone and I'm quite concerned (even though it's actually working perfectly fine, which is the weirdest part of all!)
A little background: I recently wiped my phone and flashed the Sense 5 Android 4.3, stock rom. Now I'm trying to flash Viper 4.0.
First of all, as the title suggests, whenever I put a zip file on my phone it doesn't show in the TWRP recovery. I downloaded the correct one on the site (the newest one for the HTC EVO 4G LTE) so I don't think that's the problem. Also, I tried to push the file Viper zip onto my phone using this program called WinDroid Toolkit, and it claims it did but when I go into TWRP I cannot see the zip file at all, and if I try to use other folder names (such as the 'boot' folder I saw when I was in TWRP recovery) it says those folders don't exist!
Second of all, TWRP claims there is no OS installed on my phone but when I reboot my phone, it's fine! It just goes to the home screen as usual and it works perfectly fine... so I don't understand this warning but I couldn't shake the feeling that this was relevant to my issue.
I've been combing the forums looking for this type of problem, and I've tried multiple things but to no avail. I've read snippets about partition problems after formatting some phones but I'm not sure because there doesn't seem to be much information about it (at least from what I could find).

Try using the TWRP found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639180
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
download this twrp http://d-h.st/7Cr
name it properly and fastboot flash it. after that mount your device to you pc and transfer a rom zip to storage.
Okay, well I flashed that TWRP and now I'm stuck at the white HTC screen. I can't even get into the bootloader, it just continually boots to the white HTC screen. Thoughts?

RUU or ViperRUU. TBH it sounds like the behavior of a dirty flash. ViperRUU is especially helpful in these situations.
Once done, use the TWRP recommended by Evolution_Freak. There were some major changes to the partitioning in the last few releases, make sure your recovery is appropriate for your ROM.

Ok it's not stuck anymore, I can get into recovery and bootloader, so I'm not in a panic anymore at least However, my computer is not detecting my phone, nor is VipeRUU. If I try to mount to the computer via TWRP, nothing comes up. BTW my recovery is 2.7.8.0b now. Still no OS, still gets stuck on the HTC screen until I boot to recovery or bootloader
Edit: Now the computer tries to install drivers for my phone whenever I plug it in. It pops up as HTC MTP Device, always fails to install, then has a warning in the device manager. So I uninstalled the drivers, uninstalled HTC Sync, reinstalled HTC Sync. Didn't help. This is beyond frustrating...
Edit 2: After scouring the internet someone said to lock the bootloader and that'll allow my PC to see my phone. Well, now i have a RELOCKED (that's what it says on top) bootloader and I'm no closer to the solution methinks. I'm ready to just throw this phone out the window.
Edit 3: I actually discovered ViperRUU has a way to bypass the initial screen so I can use it in bootloader. Great, except now it's stuck on "Flashing..." and has been for half an hour. I really might throw this phone out the window.
5th and final edit: VipeRUU just would not work at all, so I had to go back to an older stock RUU, which sucks but at least my phone is working now Thanks for your help guys!
