Just look at the list of features of both. If you can't decide, try both of them.
Also, this is the wrong place to create a post about it. This goes in the General or Q&A.

Battery Life
I'm rocking GeryBlur , 100% @ 6am used the phone during work here and there, it is now 10:21pm and im @ 40% ... I would say thats pretty good in my book .
Has any of youll compared the quadrants or the AnTutu system benchmark of the 2 if so i would love to here your results
ive used both of them, i loved the way gingerblur worked out for me had no problems, ive been rockin greyblur all day havent had any issues yet, seems to be a lot quicker gonna give it a few more days
Right i appreciate all the feed back so far. Im a complete noob to this. Question is has anyone had any problems with facebook syncing up with gingerblur like it will sync the contacts but it wont sync the pictures. Also with tenfars CWM is there a way to switch back between the rooted stock rom, ginger blur and also grey blur if so will someone provide me with some instructions on it thank you
i have noticed one thing i dont know if anyone else has with greyblur i use a task killer and the available memory i had with gingerblur was in the 550 range and with greyblur is only 290-300 seems like more things are running in the background

Don't use a task killer on Androd 2.2+
Android was designed as a mobile OS. It's not like a PC. Task killers on your Atrix hurt more than they help.
Battery life might be shorter on Greyblur
Greyblur has better WiFi performance
Greyblur has some helpful improvements built in (Hulu support, webtop mod, HDMI mirroring)
Greyblur looks different (duh)
That's it as far as I know. The performance upgrades will be integrated into Gingerblur in future releases I'm fairly certain.

So I have the Aria... I'm using it as a secondary phone.. got unlocked so when I travel internationally I can use it with foreign SIMs and not carry my Inspire...
I'm trying to decide between ROMs and I am curious what your opinion is for the best for me. On the Inspire I tried the Gingerbread rom, but the battery life was no good... is that an issue with the Aria Gingerbread Rom (CM7?) As well?
I tried liberated, but there are several and I can't really tell the difference between them. Ideally I want the BEST possible battery life, performance is less imperative as I'm only using it for a couple apps\phone calls when I am abroad.
Please advise. Thanks as always!

Depends on what is important to you.
CM7 is very nice and a lot of work has gone into it and it feels really nice.
FR008 is also very nice and keeps the HTC Sense feel.

Well as I said, battery is the utmost importance, but with Inspire's Gingerbread ROM it lost a lot of battery since it was a poorly ported ROM... is this the case with CM7?
And what do you mean with FR008? Is that the Liberated 2.2.2?

Battery life with CM7 is great. You don't have to worry about it.
FR008 is Liberated Froyo 2.2 while Liberated 2.2.2 is like the name says the version 2.2.2 of Froyo. Battery life with Liberated 2.2.2 is beyond great. I personally use that rom and if you ask me, I wouldn't change it for any other.

Its not bad honestly I can get the same amount of usage as if I am on liberated 2.2.2

Cool, thanks for affirming that, that's what I was hoping to hear.
Just out of curiosity, what do you like about Gingerbread vs Froyo. I notice there's a lot of opinions, and some of the visuals are similar, but it seems CM7 doesn't have sense, but besides that, what are your opinions?
Cm7 running stock clock speeds blows my fr008 (stock CPU speed) battery life away.never ran 2.2 overclocked so I can't compare that.çm7 with CPU oc'ed to 806 gives me close to what I had on 2.2 default clock speed.

Nice. That's perfect for me since I wont OC either. Thanks!
If you look on the CM7 threads, some have massive battery life issues. FR008 has bad life, but 2.2.2 has great battery life; that's an exact port of the AT&T upgrade.
Sent from my CM7 Aria
I used 2.2.2 for a while and I can say that I don't like the lag that comes with sense(updating Widgets, small things like that); stock android just seems smoother + it has more customization and useful features (easier copy and paste, better keyboard, app management, accurate battery meter)
Signatures are fancy.
I cant speak for the Liberated ROMs, but I can say that CM7 has been great as far as battery life for me. I run it overclocked and I still easily get through a day with moderate/heavy usage. So if you dont plan to OC then it should be even better. Another great option is CM6.1 Its Froyo based and I had excellent battery life on that ROM as well.

Uh, If you say so.
I have posted on several different problems that have occurred while I was using the phone to stream music via BT. Not that BT was necessarily a factor in the problem, but when reporting an issue, it's always important to list how the phone was being used when a problem occurs.
And, I did start a thread regarding BT dropouts that appear to be a problem either with CM7 or my particular phone. That remains to be determined, and is a separate issue.
However, unlike you, I've never continued to rant for weeks about my discontent with CM7 over a single issue. Quite the opposite, I'm loving CM7, and only posting my observations to find out if the issues I'm having are just my problem, or whether anyone else is experiencing the same issue, in hopes of finding a resolution. All with the intent of improving and already GREAT product.

Hey I actually like seeing posts like this guy's.... while some people dismiss it as a rant, that's what I want to hear, because most of the time it's something someone says in a rant that's good or bad where someone else sees it and says "oh that's good" or "oh that's bad" ... So I do appreciate comments, even if it's one person saying something that's not the norm, it only makes the information community better.
Thanks!
CM7 for the Aria is a pretty great choice, especially for the nice Gingerbread features like improved copy/paste and keyboard.
The battery life is pretty great in standby mode, and it only really starts draining quickly when I'm in an area with poor signal (or, of course, if I mess with it compulsively). And there's also currently the issue with GPS direction being incorrect for navigation, but last I heard they're still working on their homegrown GPS libraries.
So if you don't care about the features of Gingerbread/CM7, CM6 is still a great choice and may actually give slightly better battery life. Personally, the extra features are worth the risk to me.
Cm6 FTW! Still the most stable for me

The biggest difference I can find by looking through both threads (Cherryblur/Ninja) is that Cherryblur also supports the international build of gingerbread (being 4.5.2.0 OrangeFR), whereas Ninja only supports AT&T.
However, there are other minor differences. One difference is that ninjablur uses the new market, whereas cherryblur uses the old market.
But cherryblur seems to be more of a complete rom from the info given in the first post. These are features that it offers that ninjablur doesn't (according to the ninjablur thread):
2048k SDCard Buffer
Circular Battery and Custom Data Icons
Battery fix implemented
10 Point Multi-Touch
Proximity updates in build.prop
Avoid screen staying on in calls
WiFi scan in build.prop set to 90
Preinstall script neutered to avoid install of AT&T crapware
QuickOffice app REMOVED
Tethering enabled to use stock Hotspot app!
AGPS Enabled
Shows a menu item under location for VZW, supposedly enables AGPS from YOUR network (not just Verizon)
MMS "Reply to all" Enabled
Untested, does it work for you?
Max recipients of SMS/MMS increased to 20
Untested, does it work for you?
Disabled the locking of Default APNs so you can edit them
GTALK WITH VIDEO!!!
WEBTOP OVER HDMI!!!
Re-added ICE for contacts
WAKE ON VOLUME HACK!
Also, don't be afraid of the red theme, you can download a theme uninstaller that will give your phone the stock look (while keeping all of the rom features).
I would go with cherryblur.

Actually both use the old market.
Also know that none of the available themes will work on the cherryblur rom.
My advice: try them both for a few days and see which you like best.
If you use CherryBlur, you might have to flash the 4.5.91 radio to get 3G working if you're on AT&T.

Ok thanks for clearing that up
I had the 4-5 beta, then ran CherryBlur .5 and switched back to beta 4-5. When CherryBlur 1.1 came out I switched and stayed until version 1.3. The webtop had stopped working for some reason so I tried Ninja .4 and the speed freak .5 version. Ninja runs really good but I think that CherryBLurs 4.5.2 runs better. Seems snappier between screens and opening apps. Like the person above said, try them all out. Heck about a week ago I was on rooted on 1.5.7 and have learned to flash, unlock my bl and managed to soft brick my phone LOL. I definately am learning. Being I had carpal tunnel surgery and I'm home from work the next few weeks, I might try to learn more about ROMs and stuff.
Two new kids in town... Cherry(3.142) and Alien...
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I've been switching between the two and to me the latest Cherryblur seems the snappiest and most stable, I was getting a few FC's with Ninja SF.
However, I don't like the theme on Cherryblur and can't seem to flash mattedblues
Ninja Vs CherryBlur
I was on the same dilema for a few days reading long posts on the Ninja Trhead until I decided to give it a try(Ninja)
- Went directly to Build 2 and have not experienced major problems so far other than the Theme refuses to install.
I came from Ronaldo´s Rom which is very stable and also based on Ken´s work but a little slow and nothing special featurewise. Also I was experiencing a few connection problems and GPS a little slow to Fix.
Ninja is fast, as I said, theaming does not work for me (I think I know what I am doing but it just refuses to install from CWM nor Rom Manager) As I cannot get the theme to install and a few features are based on it, there is nothing more I can add on that regard.
I am concerned on the maturity of the rom and how slo it is movin forward in fixing bugs/adding features..
Sorry, cannot say much about C/b since I have not used it but from the paper I think is more mature and also based on the old market (Ninja is on the new whinch I dont get along well with.

I am constantly playing with and 'tweakin' my Streak and have put together what I think is a good, lite, fast, and stable rom. I made this for my own use and decided to share it with the rest of you.
I started with 354 then removed all apps that could be downloaded from the market. I also removed alot of stuff that I didn't think was necessary (such as all the verification*.apk's, don't even know what they are). There are only 17 apps in the drawer on a fresh install! I added DJ Steve's kernel and some memory tweaks from using the HTC Kitchen. VTL Launcher ADW is the included launcher as well as Swype for the keyboard. There are also some customization provided by UOT Kitchen as well as a modified Settings.apk that I got from somewhere on here. I'd love to thank whoever made it, but I have lost track so if it's your's---thank you!
I'm getting Quadrant scores in the 1400's and battery life seems pretty decent. I gave up on Quadrant scores. My best guess would be low 800's for this version. I have found through trial and error that higher Quadrant scores mean less stability, and honestly I can't tell the difference in real world performance between an 800 QS and a 1400 QS. I can't tell you exact battery life because I haven't hardly put this thing down since I installed this.
I am not an expert by no means and have only gotten these results from tinkering and trial and error. I think this is good, but am open to suggestions for improving it.
I started off by installing stock 354 using stock recovery, then installed this using Streakmod recovery and did a Factory Reset (Dell's, not Streakmod's). I have had no issues so far.
I have seen this posted before and liked it so I'm going to use it here: If you find a bug, you get to keep it. If this breaks your Streak, you get to keep the pieces. Obviously installing a custom rom breaks your warranty, and I am not responsible for whatever happens if you install mine.
Thanks to everyone whose ideas I stole/used/borrowed/whatever. Without the true experts on this board, I wouldn't have had anything to tinker with.
What works: Everything I can think of
What doesn't work: Waiting for you to tell me. The time in the status bar is black and the status bar is blackish...makes it hard to see. I don't know why and haven't yet figured out how to fix this. If someone has a link to a good tutorial and I can make it work, I'll be happy to resolve it!
So without further ado, I present Streakin' 354v1 354 v1.1:
http://www.multiupload.com/1MVM3O34AN v1.1 *newest*
http://www.multiupload.com/BHI4Y4XD69 I'm leaving this link for those that prefer v1.
I do intend on maintaining this rom and tweakin' it more based on recommendation, more stuff that I learn, etc. I do have a full time job, so even though I want to answer questions immediately, it's not always practical. If it takes me a while to respond, I apologize in advance.
Edit 09/24/11 - If you prefer landscape mode, simply flash the attached file below in recovery. Be sure to wipe cache and dalvik-flash after flashing. After doing this it took 5-6 minutes for my phone to boot, but it did....eventually. You may want to backup first! I also added a portrait mode file in case you decide you don't like landscape after all. Enjoy.
Edit 09/25/11 - It was pointed out to me that this ROM does not have a init.d folder. I forgot to add it, although the support to run scripts in init.d is there. Until the next version comes out, using Root Explorer, or similar, create a folder named init.d in /system/etc/ and set the permissions to rwx,r_x,r_x. That should be all you need. Thanks.

Just an observation here. You might want to contemplate recreating this ROM using 360 as a base instead of 354 due to the more complete language support in the former compared to the latter.

I had contemplated using that rom as my base, but noticed everyone had better battery life with 354. 360 was listed as being an "update" 351, which gave me horrible battery life. If someone can tell me different as far as battery, I don't think it would be difficult to redo this based on one of the others (360 or maybe 364?)

OK, I removed DJ Steve's kernel and replaced some files that were changed to accomodate it. My quadrant scores are now in the 800's and I'll report back with the 'feel' of the device and stability over the next day or so. I love seeing high scores, however must admit I've never really noticed a difference in day to day use with the higher scores. I will take stability over high benchmark scores, but will take noticeable speed increase over a little stability if that makes sense.

Hey there,
In the next couple of days I'll be romming my Bell Atrix 4g into a custom rom. So far I've been considering the Alien rom but CM7 has been grabbing my attention on and off.
What I'm asking of the community is which rom are you guys using on your Atrix and why do you like it better over others?
I'd like to read and find out what other people have been using and how it's working for them.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
ModSquad
I can tell you as a bell user that you don't need to worry about being fro bell first off
Here is my personal opinion :
All roms I run with launcher pro
Fauxs kernal underclocked and undervolted
Alien:
I seem to always come back to it. I like all the features that are included in the theme. Wake on volume is a must. The theme is well done everything looks great if you like green.
Super stable everything works there is a good amount of blur so that the good stuff still works but it's not being held back.
Darkside:
Lovely red theme. Very extensive and very fast. But didn't seem as stable as alien. Nottach is very good with the mods and all work flawlessly.
I had it very deblurred and liked it but it seemed to drain battery very fast.
Homebase:
amazingly speedy I had too many problems so I left very quickly
CM7:
Insanely fast boot up. Ran smooth super customizable. And stable. Never had any real problems with it.
All the things I customized in this were already included in Darkside and alien. The reason I switch from thisis the lack of1080p video recording and the fact that it missed webtop and fp sensor.
Also it didn't seem. Like an Atrix anymore. Just another phone with CM7
Hope that helps you choose. I love all those roms. Even though i had problems with hb. Honestly just flash all of them and make your own personal decision

Thanks for the input mate.
I'm leaning towards alien, but I'm mainly interested in keeping my fingerprint scanner to login with, I find it so much more convenient than anything else in the world.
I didn't mention it earlier but i tend to lean to themes with darker Colours.
Ill get mine flashed on the weekend and post screenies with the results.
If anyone has any input to add, please do. I love reading this stuff.
Since rooting my Atrix I've tried all the more recent roms here. Of the motorblur roms I preferred Starwars - the light side. Super fast and no problems with it at all. The dev really seems to know what he's doing with scripts and things.
I then installed CM7 and have never looked back. The things that keep me on this rom are lightning fast speed, complete stability, 2-3 days battery life, dozens of themes available in market, and possibly most importantly to me the lack of 'stuff' clogging up the phone. The bloat in Motorblur is extensive, not just the apps you can see in the app drawer but the services and processes running in the background slowing down your phone. I used Autostarts to disable everything and it took ages going through it all. With cm7 there is hardly anything to disable.
The cm7 team have the fingerprint scanner working now and we're expecting an update very soon. I don't believe webtop is working though.
It will always be a matter of preference but I honestly can't think of any reason why anyone would stay on stock roms when cm7 has become as advanced as it is now. If you get bored with the looks you can just change the theme in Theme Chooser.
Enjoy testing the roms and I hope you find one you like and settle with!
I have bell Atrix tried the CM7

Get the google apps zip file from the beta thread in developer section. you may need to goto settings accounts then google and set up sync for contacts.

Help a noob out? I have a virgin DX2 - never rooted - freshly updated to 2.3.5 (was in the soak) - and I'm finally ready to root it and try out a ROM. I've been lurking here for a week or so reading & trying to learn all I can about the process - and I think I'm ready to give it a shot.
Obviously Step 1 is to SBF back to 2.3.4 so I can get rooted, but after that is where I'm running into some indecision. I can't decide if I want to go straight to CM7 from there - or follow the instructions to keep root, SBF back to 2.3.5 and install Eclipse 2.2.
I know both ROMs have their loyal followers and I'm sure either would be a big improvement over stock Blur... and I know it's easy enough to try BOTH of them once I get the hang of all this... but I'd still appreciate some advice about which to try first.
For those of you who've tried both, which do you prefer? What are the pros & cons of each?
Thanks!

I'm guessing you've seen this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632111
Seems to center around Eclipse and CM7 mostly. Eclipse can be a bit more polished in my estimation, mostly due to HDMI, FM radio, less buggy, you know, all the bells and whistles working. For the most part, either way you go you'll be fine.
Currently I have myself and my wife on CM7, we both like it. No real issues to speak of.
I personally perfer CM7RC1 its a solid daily driver very minor issues and I never get bored with it. Here's my overview of both ROMs.
CM7RC1
Pros:
Extremely Smooth.
Lots Of Mods/Tweaks.
Endless Customization.
Gingerbread 2.37
Theme Engine.
Wifi Tethering
Fully AOSP.
Toggles.
Cons:
HDMI Mirroring Is Unsupported.
FM Radio Is Unsupported.
Bugs:
Data Triangle. (Fixed By Reboot, *228)
Battery Exclamation. (Fixed By Reboot)
Some Experience Wifi Connecting Issues. (Fixed By Manual Connect)
Eclipse 2.2
Very Smooth.
Few Mods/Tweaks.
Limited Customization.
Gingerbread 2.35.
Flashable Themes.
AOSP/BLUR Hybrid.
Toggles.
Cons:
Lack Of Customization.
Is Only Gingerbread 2.35.
No Tethering.
Bugs:
Some Experience Wifi Resetting. (No Fix ATM)

I have tried out every x2 rom under the sun and as of right now I think your best bet is cm7. I would recommend running the cm7 mash up script, along with the dual core script, because with both of these the res is flawless.
but of course, I think you should try both of them out because it is personal preference. And if we get cm9 here soon then we will all be happy little cracked out, flashed up, ics'd whores with everything we can dream of for the x2, with some extra feta cheese.

This is a fair evaluation of both ROMs but really it all boils down to personal preference and things like if you need HDMI and stuff like that...I personally never use HDMI or the FM radio...but still liked eclipse and that's what I have on my wife's phone albeit its 2.1...I am sure when CM9 comes out she will like to try it...in short flash them both run them for a week or so and see which one you like and go from there

Just a caution on CM7; I haven't tried the latest release but on the first release the camcorder continuous auto-focus didn't function. It seemed to focus once when you press the shutter button and remain fixed, and sometimes that focus was in error itself. Not a lot of people seem to care about that but my phone has the heavy responsibility of archiving my sons' most important memories for them to look back on when they are older, so I just went back to stock rom. Other than that, CM7 seemed great.
I use CM7RC1 Dual Core Script, Build Prop Mashup, 8 Touch Point Mod, Cron Scheduler, Beats Audio, 3 CDMA Mods. My phone is blazing fast!

In my experience the beats audio hack ruined my sound quality. Also the dual core script......Our 2nd core boots up automatically when there's a demand for more memory. Dragonzkiller even stated this is the dual core script thread. Keeping both on at all times pretty much only drains your battery faster. Only difference I noticed with it was the home screen animations were a little snappier. Wasn't enough change in performance for the lack of battery IMHO. Just a few things if you go the CM7 route. Never tried Eclipse so I can't help you there.

Why do these keep popping up...the search bar is definitely not be used...
Anyways...Eclipse is literally a hair slower than cm7 but it is worlds more stable. Wifi on Eclipse far better than cm7's. Cm7 has some SU issues but they can be fixed by installing Super SU from the market and getting rid of the normal SU app.
Tethering is easier on cm7 is strong -- heat is something you'll have to worry about. I've tethered on Eclipse through the use of a Market app so a little more work must be done there.
Downside to Eclipse is that you must go to 2.3.5 to use it whereas Cm7 is 2.3.4. Battery life on Eclipse is better for me. I've had serious computer trouble this past month and have had to do some research for papers on my phone! With the brightness on full, Gmusic/Pandora/power amp going and internet on my battery would last ~6-9 hours.
I should also mention that I have the Second Core Script going and my battery life took a very small. Not backbreaking but noticeable.
Not going to lie ; your phone will heat up slightly more regardless of the rom you're on when you use the script
Personally I enjoy Eclipse much more than cm7. Blue is my favorite color
Come over to the dark side...
Hmm haven't ran into any sound issues yet. As far as the dual core script I understand the core will activate on demand. The thing is this only happens when the CPU becomes so over tasked by processes it create a short lag before kicking in. This script makes that laggy transition disappear. I would only recommend this script for people with the extended battery like me tho.

Obviously, lol... no "lag" or time needed to boot because its already always on...
Did you use the script editor in ROM toolbox to apply it, sealedfate? If so do you check apply on boot, or do you only use it when you see fit?

If you have a X2 now I would say you have to try them both. Run one for a couple of weeks do a nano back up and then try the other for a couple of weeks. Then you can decide which you like better. Or you can do like I did and just keep going back and forth every few weeks because you love them both
I have the script in system/ect/init.d so it applies on boot. Helps a hell of a lot with 3D games.

Actually, like I said in my first post, I'm been doing nothing but searching and reading on here for the past week or so. Eclipse 2.2 just dropped a week ago, so I was looking for fresh opinions from people who had tried CM7 and that version specifically.
I appreciate all the helpful comments from everyone though. I think I'll do like a few of you suggested and try them both eventually... starting with CM7.
Hopefully we can all add CM9 to the list of ROMs to try very soon!

Yep! I've been following his Twitter feed and the "CM9DX2 anticipation" thread on here. Can't wait to see how it goes. Sounds like he's REAL close!
Success! Following Moon Shadow's instructions to the letter, I successfully SBF'd back to 2.3.4, rooted, and installed CM7 without any problems whatsoever. CM7 is up and running! Just need to get my apps reinstalled and I'll be good to go. Man... you guys weren't kidding. The phone is SOOOO much faster/smoother now, it's not even funny. Should have done this a long time ago.
Thanks everyone!
OK, it appears that I spoke too soon. I realized soon after that the Google apps did not get loaded on my phone (Gmail, Maps, Nav, YouTube, etc.), but some of the other apps in that same ZIP file DID get installed (Talk). Also, my old background pic was still on the phone.
I was able to download/install the missing Google apps without any problem and they all work perfectly (including Nav from the car dock) - and everything else has been running flawlessly. The phone is very fast & smooth... no bugs... not a single force close or reboot yet after fairly heavy use for the last couple of days.
So... obviously something didn't go perfectly with my install, but as far as I can tell, everything is fine with the phone. How can I tell if I'm missing anything else? Should I just keep what I have or SBF back to 2.3.4 and start over again? I'm perfectly happy with it right now - but maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

Not sure how anyone might be able to tell you what you might be missing on your phone. It is pretty basic what you get, not a lot of bells and whistles put in by default.
Not aware of a comprehensive list of what you should have exactly.
