I got several questions regarding the lapdock.
I wanted a android tablet as i am going to college in about 3 months.
Now, does the lapdock work like it would as in a computer.
for example. am i able to write documents and print from it?
i know there are applications that do that. on android phones.
but how will they work on the lapdock. will it open a new screen? or will it stay in the phones window screen?

Does anyone know if the newest Android SDK_r12 release supports the G-Tab without having to doctor up the usb inf file?
If not, should I still use the old instructions that are from January?
I just ordered the G-Tab and I'm trying to gather as much info about rooting, rom-ing, modding, etc that I can so I can jump right in when it arrives. I've had android smartphones (HTC EVO 3D currently) and they've always been easy to recognize with ADB. I've seen some posts that ADB is not native on the G-Tab so I'm making sure I'll be able to get it working.
Thanks for any help!

Crap... sorry mods. I thought I was under the Q&A... that's what I get for viewing in multiple tabs.
Also, in case it matters for the advice - I'm running a Windows Vista machine.
Hi,
I'm interested in Qt app development which can be run on an Android OS. I'd like to just run the OS through emulation software to begin with, and hopefully span to fully fledged testing on a tablet or Samsung Nexus or similar. The trick is I want to be able to be able to attach a RFID reader (probably via mini/USB) to read RFID cards. Does anyone know of an OS already capable of doing this, or insight into the appropriate actions I should take to get this up and running?
The RFID cards will most probably be passive, by the way.

Dear All
As my nusername suggests i am very new at this Android game and would like to draw on the wealth of experience that is out there.
I did not want to make a massive investment on my first tablet in case i couldn't get to grips with Android so i bought a cheap Chinese machine to fumble my way around. The problem is..... I cannot find any way of updating the Android version on the machine. From the machine itself, it tells me i am using Android version 2.3.1 but i know there are later versions out there but i don't know how or where to find the appropriate one for my machine.
The specifications of my machine and some photo's can be found on the attached Word doc and i would be greatful if anyone can help me out. I have managed to root the machine using Gingerbreak but i'm now stuck !!!
Thanks in anticipation
There isn't really support (if any) for most of those "cheap" Chinese Tablets.

Hello
I bought SGS2 after a long hesitation. I was wondering about buying Motorola Atrix2 due to the Webtop and WebDock.
I wonder if it is possible to port this feature on our SGS2?

I suspect that's going to be a negative. The SGS2 lacks the necessary hardware.
The Atrix can do this because it has little metal contacts on the outside of the device, that enable the communication with external hardware. The SGS2 only has USB.

You can output display via the MHL, or use the USB port, but can't do both at the same time. So not possible to port this exact lapdock.
You have a couple possible options though.
1- output display via MHL and use bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo
2- output display via DLNA and use USB OTG keyboard/mouse combo
To be honest, I'm not even really sure if option 2 is viable or not. I've not tried outputting my display via DLNA at all yet. So I don't know if this works.
connection to a monitor / TV is not a problem. What I want is the ability to run systems based on Linux like on Atrix.

You haven't been so clear about your question.
The Atrix can plug into a webtop, this laptop-like dock, yeah? Then the webtop is running off of software that's actually running on the phone.
This is not and will not be possible with the SGS2 without heavy modification, and I mean heavy...way beyond my skill set and I've taken a few cell phones apart to replace faulty parts.
If you just want to be able to run a Linux ROM...chances are good. Android is Linux based, but I'm guessing you want something a bit more purist, like one of the 'buntu's...I didn't find anything about this on the interwebs, but you should be able to google just as well as I can.
If that was your question, what the hell does that have to do with the webtop/webdock stated in the OP?
I just found something that gives similar possibilities - I have not tested it yet but looks promising - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390351

This isn't at all what you asked in OP.

Your English wasn't the problem, it seems pretty good actually, but in the OP you seemed to be asking about connecting to hardware. That was a little misleading.
No worries.
Hi all,
I like to say I'm a closet techy and phonephile. I have owned 3 Blackberrys, an iPhone, A Symbian powered Nokia, and then the 3-4 dumbphones I've had too. I think I have finally found my home with Android. I currently have an HTC Inspire 4G and an Asus TF-201 Transformer Prime. I have been a rommer for about 3 months now on my Inspire, currently running CM7.1, and love it. I do miss the HTC sense feel but have grown used to the solid performance by CM7.
Anyway back to the questions. I am looking for a way to actually view my phone screen remotely on my Tablet so I can look like I am taking notes in class but can be actually text, and do things that aren't "scholarly". Is it possible?
My second question is about Rooting my Tablet. I used the root method on transformerprimeroot.com to no avail. I have superuser on the tablet but the permissions to all the root apps are being denied. Anyone know how to fix this?
Thank you.
I used to have an Inspire 4g, loved it. Try out some of Virtuous' ROMs if you want to get that sense feel back, wicked fast too. You are probably looking for AndroidVNC or VNCandroid (or something like that) although those apps are generally used for viewing phone from a desktop or laptop. I guess if you can find a VNC Server to install on the phone and a VNC Viewer on your tablet you could maybe do it.
As for your root issues, does a prompt pop up for you to confirm or deny SU access for the app? if not, how do you know you have root? Can you sudo bash in terminal?
I know almost entirely nothing about terminal and coding. To be honest I'm a little afraid of doing it too. I don't want to brick the tablet. I was told that if I root it again then unroot it, superiser would be gone. However I tried that using vipermod and it didn't work.
I also have one more question about this site. How come when I was not a member I could gain access to the developement threads and download the roms but now that I am a member I am locked out. Seems a little unfair imho. I understand why the rules are there I just don't understand how a non member was able to gain access without a problem.
