Hello
I bought SGS2 after a long hesitation. I was wondering about buying Motorola Atrix2 due to the Webtop and WebDock.
I wonder if it is possible to port this feature on our SGS2?

I suspect that's going to be a negative. The SGS2 lacks the necessary hardware.
The Atrix can do this because it has little metal contacts on the outside of the device, that enable the communication with external hardware. The SGS2 only has USB.

You can output display via the MHL, or use the USB port, but can't do both at the same time. So not possible to port this exact lapdock.
You have a couple possible options though.
1- output display via MHL and use bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo
2- output display via DLNA and use USB OTG keyboard/mouse combo
To be honest, I'm not even really sure if option 2 is viable or not. I've not tried outputting my display via DLNA at all yet. So I don't know if this works.
connection to a monitor / TV is not a problem. What I want is the ability to run systems based on Linux like on Atrix.

You haven't been so clear about your question.
The Atrix can plug into a webtop, this laptop-like dock, yeah? Then the webtop is running off of software that's actually running on the phone.
This is not and will not be possible with the SGS2 without heavy modification, and I mean heavy...way beyond my skill set and I've taken a few cell phones apart to replace faulty parts.
If you just want to be able to run a Linux ROM...chances are good. Android is Linux based, but I'm guessing you want something a bit more purist, like one of the 'buntu's...I didn't find anything about this on the interwebs, but you should be able to google just as well as I can.
If that was your question, what the hell does that have to do with the webtop/webdock stated in the OP?
I just found something that gives similar possibilities - I have not tested it yet but looks promising - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390351

Your English wasn't the problem, it seems pretty good actually, but in the OP you seemed to be asking about connecting to hardware. That was a little misleading.
No worries.

Does anybody know if a mini usb to tv out cable will work on g1? I don't know much about these cables and would like to know if the cable will work by just simply plugging it in. Or if additional software would be required.
Any info would be a great help as I hope to use 1 of these cables for a tv streaming app.

Was unaware that the question had been posted before, better search harder next time before starting a thread.
Will not be looking into this further as it seems clear that it doesn't work. Thanks for the posts that have answered my question

searching is a waste of his time when he can make a new thread....it should be a limited 2 how many thread you can make...also when you about to post a thread / a pop-up should show when its a repeat thread

Sorry, about duplicated Thread about the G1 TV out that was already post before, but this website below fuel my curiosity and probably was misleading about the ability to broadcast video. Thought maybe HTC created a cable that enable many HTC device that don't have the TV-out to a capable function and I know it more in the hardware, but the software/drivers support too. It also seem it more supported in a Winmo OS device then Andriod OS.

To make it clear once more, there's no TVout on G1 (a.k.a HTC Dream).
The physical connection to the signals of the chipset is missing and additionally there's not software to support this part of hardware.
HTC devices with TVout feature, deliver the dedicated signals on some of the pins at the extUSB connector.
The adaptor you pointed at, is a simple cable with some passive elements inside (e.g. filter) to attach to extUSB connector and match it to the input of the TV set.
Best regards,
scholbert
Is there a way to use the USB plug from the hd2 and plug it into a USB hub which in turn you can plug in a keyboard, mouse, or other device with the correct driver. This would open up possibilities for video out, card reader transfers, and many other very useful things. It can communicate with a ps3 and a PC, why wouldn't this work?

THIS IS THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, DONT POST NEW THREADS!.
this should be posted in general, NOT development.
...and that doesnt mean make a new thread there. just wait for a mod to move this one. and DONT POST HERE AGAIN. please.
thank you....
hi i like cookies
if you used a powered hub (one that gets power from another source besides the phone) then yes it will work with many USB devices such as mice and keyboards, if you boot the phone into UBUNTU.

USB host is a reality for our HD2s but thisa post is in the wrong place, go to the correct place and im sure answers will flow,
usb host was essential during the development of a working linux build, remember the pics Dcordes posted back in may with his hd2 sat in the numerical keypad
.
I wasn't sure where to post it so I thought here but guess not. My bad for posting in here. :/
True, forgot about Ubuntu.

i don't know why no body interested in getting streak to do full mirroring or to make full output possible . it's amazing device with unique design .can any body tell why there is no developer want to do that for the streak. is it impossible ? is it matter of money ?
what is more important than this update.
thank you if you could please just tell me WHY
Peterin.... I feel your pain and have pondered this same conundrum myself.... It would appear that, at least among developers, it's a much, much bigger priority to develop sort-of-flakey, non-standard ROMS that will give the Streak a millinanosecond faster clock speed, and then call for an "all hands on deck" SoS to try and get all other developers to fix the bugs in the aforementioned ROM....
Lower priorities are assigned to things that the Streak is actually supposed to do out of the box. I actually read, on this very site, someone had developed a ROM that would enable an HTC product to run at twice the rated processor clock speed without completely draining the battery in the first hour of use..... now the actual phone radio would no longer work, but that seemed like a minor annoyance.... INCREDIBLE!! Brings to mind something I hear on occasion, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play"?

Someone can correct me if i am wrong, but HDMI functionality has been broken since the official Froyo 2.1 release of Android for the Streak.

I would guess it's because nobody spent the money on the $40 home dock... or: nobody is using the puny 32 GB of SD card space on movies... and since there's no reliable app for streaming video from home PCs to phone, we're better off plugging our computers into TVs for now.
I'm also curious? Did dell break their own phone's functionality with an update?

if you'd bothered searching, you'd find out that this exact thing has been questioned many times and its just not possible with the Streak's chipset. It can stream video with the stock roxio player and dock, but full mirroring is, sadly, not possible
thanks
Thank you guys for answering my question but i have to say i'm just disappointed, there is no solution for this issue i searched many sites but unfortunately no come out .thanks any way i'm sad for this
I found this cable: http://focuslink.en.alibaba.com/pro...le_Digital_Media_Interface_to_HDMI_cable.html
maybe direct mirroring possibilities!!!!
The cable doesnt matter at all as it's basically the multimedia dock but turned into a cable.
The S5 can only currently output video and audio though the stock gallery and music player respectively.
Hello!
I’ve to make an Android high school project and I’ll need to send signals through the USB cable (the interpretation of these will be another project) so be able to send 1 or 0s will be enough I guess…
To get that, I’d need the USB Host mod or the Accessory one?
I was thinking to buy this tablet for testing that has USB Host and 2.3.4 Android version but I’m not completely sure if it will be compatible….
Thank you very much!
Please....
no one?....
sadly, with the cheap 'Chinese knockoff' tablets, there's pretty much no way to know something like that.
I say get an old android phone with at least some dev support off Craigslist or something for your problem. An OG Droid (for example) would have more than enough supports and preexisting hacks for you to be able to program the USB port a little.
Thank you strongly. I supposed that all, but my intentions were to get "send that signals" using an non-customed ROM and a "cheap" Android device (I can't no waste to much money on this)
Read in the specifications USB OTG made me think that will be posible to control USB...
Anyway, would you know the difference between USB Host and Accessory?
Thank you very much!
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/usb/accessory.html
^that should help explain it.
Thank you, I have read before but the only difference I saw was the power source location....:S
Hallo everyone!
First of all - I got myself a smartphone just yesterday for the first time ever, so yes.. I'm even less than a Noob.. you can call me noob^2..
Second: i searched the forum but I did not find a similar topic. Either there is no similar thread yet, or I don't know how to use the Forum search engine properly.. If so, please excuse!
I have a SGS2 i9100 (not G) and android 4.0.3. Not rooted (don't know yet how to so..)
I would like to replace my ipod with the SGS2, but the soundquality is very poor. I would like do connect the phone to an usb DAC (fiio E7 for example), but i read that it is not possible to bypass the internal crap yamaha-DSP. So is there any possibility, hack, or whatever, to send the pure, unprocessed mp3 data to the DAC via USB OTG??
Thank you a LOT!
Not currently possible with the SGS2 & highly unlikely to ever be. Devs who have been asked to have a look at it have all gone 'Nup' because of Samsung's proprietary/closed source drivers & so on. To give you an idea of what devs are up against/why nobody will tackle this, read this post.
Only way it will ever happen is if you code it yourself, or a dev with a lot of time on their hands (there aren't really any of these; the development they do now is done in their spare time & on top of the jobs they have) who actually wants to use this themselves.
Don't ditch your iPod.

Well, that's a pitty!
I read somewhere that android 4.1. (Jelly Bean) supports that USB audio out capability. Is that true, and does that mean, that if I could install jelly bean on the s2, I could use usb audio?
Another, probably stupid, question. Is it possible to install the 'not touchwized' - original - version of android on the s2? Would that make usb audio work, or is it a matter of hardware and drivers??
Thak you for your reply!
Hardware & drivers. Won't work no matter what. Unless a dev makes it work as I said in my previous post.
So right now, no one is trying to make the s2 work..? Would donate if someone succeeds..!
What about the Galaxy nexus phone and about the Galaxy s3? Do these phones support usb audio, even though they are from samsung?
1) No, offering money won't make any difference. There have been threads made in General where people have pledged differing amounts of money; in one thread I offered $20, all up maybe 6-7 people pledged money totaling around $150 to get it working. No devs took up the offer. Seriously, this is something that is very difficult & time consuming to get working, it's not simple like some people seem to think. It just isn't going to happen. Money isn't the issue, the issue is time and/or a desire on the part of a dev to use this feature themselves. No dev so far has had either of those nor a desire to get this working.
The fact it doesn't work on stock roms should tell you something.
2) You're asking in the wrong place, ask in the forums for those phones.
