[Q] Touch Pro Battery charge issue - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
Since a while i have a htc touch pro. Since WinMo suks ass i decided to dual-boot it on xdandroid. So far i'm pretty satisfied with the result but i have one major problem. Off course there are plenty of threads about sucking battery life and even more sucking battery indication but i seem to have a new problem, for nobody else posted this problem anywhere else. My phone (when booted in Haret) doesn't charge for more than 83%, and besides, i have the feeling that even when it says that it has been charged to 83%, it has not even been charged for the half becouse my battery life is really not that good. So that's my first problem. And since it would be to easy if i had only this single problem i would like to ask you why it takes so long under xdandroid to find gps signal. Under WinMo it would take max. about 20 sec. to find a signal but under xdandroid it can easely take about 5 min..
Thanks for any help.
I've got FRX06 Bundle with some custom **** attached

Battery Woes, extremely hot device!

Hi guys, I finally sorted my issues with the disappearing radio, but now it seems I have another issue.
Starting 2 days ago my battery just started draining like crazy, I'm lucky to get an hour or 2 of use out of the thing.
I noticed when I plug it in to charge it it takes forever and the device gets extremely hot. The battery is so hot you can almost burn yourself when you touch it. Maybe its just my imagination, but it seems to swell slightly when it gets very hot as well.
Obviously I have stopped using my device as I am worried about the battery catching fire after all the Lion battery issues lately.
Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? Is the battery covered by any type of warranty?
I'm sure I need a new battery and I'm hoping that will fix the issue, hopefully its not some internal problem that is causing it to overheat.
Thanks in advance,
-Kai
Have you backed up your device and hard reset to rule out any software issues? I've run into this before, and there was something running on my device that cause the battery to drain VERY quickly. Never figured out what it was, but after a hard reset and reinstall, everything was fine.
I've had similar issues since putting black 3.01 on, draining anyway, not overheating as yet. I have stopped the battery draining by instaling Daniel Herrero's Bandswitch and setting it to gsm during the day, it seems to switch between gprs and hsdpa more frequently now with 3.01 which drains the battery enormously. Havent done a hard reset yet though.
you should feel my battery after tethering for hours, sigh....
Hmmm, mine spends half the day tethered at work, no heat issues thus far (apart from one time I left it under my pillow (too much Jack) and the heat woke me up (Not a great way to ease into a hangover)). I only ever have battery drain issues.
Yeah I dont think its a software issue as I have done several hard resets, and tried it with a couple of different Rom's and radio's, with no other software installed.
As for the 3g draining the battery, I have my phone set to only use Quadband, not UMTS or 3G.
I'm hoping to pick up a new battery tomorrow and maybe that will solve my problem.
I wonder if I might be able to get a new battery for free from HTC? I'm going to send them an email and see what they say.

same problem here
Hey invictive,
i have the same problem, and am also thinking about buying a new battery. plz let me know how the new battery work.
thx
I've just had the same problem. It was red hot in my belt clip & bat low warning.
Mines only 3 months old, been fine until now.
There were a lot of apps running incldung camera & wifi.
I'm going to charge again & close all apps, see if its ok.
had the same problem with my first tytn. called htc support (germany) and they told me that this behavior is not normal (obvious)
i recieved a free replacement, allthough i had to send in my tytn and not only the battery.
edit:
it was even worse with wifi turned on...

[Q] Battery / ROM problem??

Hi all. I really don't know what causes my problem, so I'll just describe it:
Epilogue:
My Legend came with some Vodafone ROM so as soon as I got it I flashed 2-3 ROMs found on XDA (all in the same day, all were 2.2) before I settled for BlaY0's. Everything was working properly. After 3-4 months I decided to try a new ROM so I flashed a 2.3.3 with HTC Sense (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987251) - didn't like it much; then I tried a Cyanogen, also 2.3 - didn't like it either. So I flashed back the BlaY0 2.2. (also, in one day)
This is when my problem started.
Usually my battery would last for a day and a half. But every evening I connect it to the charger (at about 50%). In the morning the little light turned from orange to green and the battery indicator showed 100%. This was before! Now, I connect the charger in the evening but in the morning the light is still orange and the battery indicator shows something between 70% and 85% (I don't know if this is important, but most of the times is 85%). Usually it took 2-3 to fully charge the battery.
After a while, I noticed that if I reboot the phone in the morning, after the reboot the indicator shows 95-98%.
First thing I did was to wipe the battery stats (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765656) but either I did it wrong or that was not the problem because it did'n solve anything.
Then I noticed something else. When I go to SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>BATTERY I can see the UP TIME and the AWAKE TIME. I'm guessing that the up time is the total time since last reboot but the awake time I'm not sure; is it the time the display was on or it is more about CPU activity? Anyways, it seems that after I connect the charger, it thinks that it is awake because in the morning I can read about 8-9 h of awake time (during the day it reaches at about 1-2 h). So it appears that something consumes the power at a higher rate messing with the charging process. If so, why does the battery indicator heals after reboot?
Thinking that an app was causing the problem I eliminated some of them: Advanced Task Killer, Llama, Watchdog. The problem persisted...
Now I'm out of ideas...so if someone has some I'd be grateful. It's not that I need to reboot in the morning, it's the not knowing that's killing me!
Absolutly same issue here.
I remember seeing a solution somewhere in the forum. Try using search. I think there're many threads revolving around this issue.

I know that it's selfish but I'm glad I'm not alone
@Asovse1: I did a search before posting but I'll keep digging if you say there is a solution somewhere. Tks!

There was a huge thread on this in General.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151450&highlight=charge
Unfortunate, until an alternate solution is found, it seems that replacing a piece of the hardware is the only way. Which sucks. I'm sorry.
When flashing a new ROM or switching between primary and secondary batteries in my wallet, I always make sure I calibrate it so the system doesn't misinterpret predefined untrue values regarding the highs and lows of the battery.
Actually, with my second battery, it takes an hour to charge from 2-60, then another one for 61-76, then the whole night til 100. It's quite horrible. The stock HTC battery excels at charging, but I digress.
It seems like a counter-solution to me, but maybe a temporary fix for you: Have you tried investing in a really cheap, secondary battery, perhaps on eBay? I bought two for around 2 dollars each, on separate occasions. My first I'm still using now, in my wallet, switches each month. My other one I bought recently, and the first time it dipped to 30%, it completely shut off. Needless to say, I threw it away, it was horrible.
@Asovse1
I read the thread...to be honest I never thought it would be a hardware issue. Anyways, replacing the motherboard isn't really a fix.
I guess your solution (having spare batteries) is the only one feasible. This kinda sucks!
Solution (see last sentence)
I have two HTC Legend phones here that both have this same problem.
I have read elsewhere that some people got the HTC Legend fully charged by charging it normally, like overnight, then powering it down and charging once more until the light turns green. Some repeated this procedure twice, i.e. pulled the charging cable, then plugged it in again.
I just tried charging with the phone powered down and got it to 100%.
But I'm still not sure whether this is just snake oil, because the indicated figure may not actually show the true charge.
Addendum: As I now know, it is snake oil. As far as I can tell, the phone charges normally. Only the indicator underreads. It does not reach 100%, it goes down rapidly, the phone keeps operating for hours with the indicator showing 3% or less.
And here is the solution.

[Q] Any one else have this weird battery drain?

I got my galaxy s2 (international version) about 4 months ago. Recently I've noticed some weird battery drain mostly when I restart my phone, but it happens other times just out of the blue.
It might be a software bug not showing the proper battery level, but I've attached pictures that show normal battery drain even after that jump down. Obviously, if it was a a software fault the battery percentage should remain level or go up slightly. (Yes the battery level does go up a bit, but I lose significantly more battery than I gain.)
This has happened in many instances and I've only got a screenshot of two. Sometimes I get big discharge and at other times its small. It's pretty annoying when you think you've got enough battery and go out, only to find the phones dropped 20-30% out of nowhere.
My phone is unlocked and not branded (bought from carphone warehouse UK- CPW). It's running stock XXKI4 firmware (2.3.4) and I'm not rooted.
So my question is, has anyone else seen this happen or have I got a faulty battery? Is there a fix?
Hi there,
Battery drain is one one the main argouments you can find in this forums. ATM I'm in your same condition: after latets ROM ugrade (I've got latest CheckROM release), my phone "sucks" al lot more battery than before.
A lot of things could affect this: themes, skin, kernel, application bug, bad battery checking and so on. There isn't a valid answer... I think you must indagate on yourself, comparing what you find with forum's infos!!
Good luck!!

There are several threads about battery drain.
For example here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16973603
Maybe you find a useful tip.
You have always test it on your phone under your conditions.
You can try to flash special (Custom) ROMs and kernels, which are optimized for better battery life, but as there are so many different influences on battery life, it is nearly impossible to find a general "fix" for all users and phones.
Good luck!
well at least yours lasts 15 hours, mine lasts at most 10 hours on heavy usage.
P.S. I am using 2.3.5
As to Anwser to those "drops" or "gaps" in the graph, just recently i noticed that my phone was working normally, i was monitoring its battery drain (i have a thread going on about it), and after some time of no using, after class, i noticed that my phone asks for my SIM PIN again, and is in Safe Mode (i dont really know what that it). When i checked the battery monitoring graph (battery info) i notice the absolutr same fall (from 70% to 40%), but i remember that i saw and used my phone at 60-50% too ! So i can only assume that the phone crashes, eighter reboots for some reason, and the data isnt saved (for example it saves the data every 2 hours or so), so there appears the "gap".
Thats simply my opinion, but i do remember using the phone at the % between the two extremes (IN the gap), so i guess the data wasnt saved.
EDIT: Ha! I'll add some pis now to show you guys this: so in my current history i have two gaps, one big, and one smaller before. So, the first time, i turned off the phone and PULLED OUT THE BATTERY aswell cause i wanted to check my batteries mAh (its 1650 but thats offtopic). Thats how the small gap appeared ! As for the big one, my phone seemed to crash and reboot while i didnt notice, because in an hour or so of no using i woke it up and it asked for the SIM PIN.
So there, i think the phone eighter crashes or doesnt manages to save the battery data, and those gaps ("falls") appear.

[Q] Ray battery recently shortened and it has also started time travelling

I've got a bit of a problem with my Xperia Ray and despite hours of googling I still can't find a solution so I thought I'd see if you guys could help
Had it for about 6 months now and it worked great up until a couple of weeks ago when suddenly the battery life got way shorter, like I used to be able to get close to 3 days if I didn't do anything but sending messages and using some basic apps and even with pretty heavy use it still lasted well over a day.
Recently though it lasts under 20 hours with absolutely no usage, when I leave the phone overnight it loses about 40% charge when previously the use was under 10 for the same time period and even if its turned off it loses charge at a similar rate.
The other problem that started around the same time was that whenever the phone turns off from lack of charge or I take out the battery the date resets to 6 January 1980 and the phone seems unable to automatically correct it. Previously my phone was able to retain the date even after the battery had run down completly.
The only thing I can think of that changed before the problems started was that I used a solar powered usb charger for a few days because I was tramping but I have no idea what that could have gone wrong or how I could fix it.
I've tried a full factory reset, upgraded the android software to 4.0.4 and used various battery apps to try to find anything that might be using all my battery with no success.
Its driving me crazy so any help would be great.
Also here's a picture of a recent day of usage (not enough posts to embed it properly sorry), except for a short run I didn't use the phone for anything

Could be a lot of things. If the solar powered charger made your phone really hot while charging then the battery might be permanently damaged and you should try a different battery. It could also be that your power meter has gone wonky and this can be reset by charging the phone to 100% and then removing the battery and the usb cable from the phone for 10 minutes. Return the battery to the phone and charge it back up to 100%. Usually, when I experience something like this, it is some app that is draining the battery. Since you have just been trekking, maybe it is google maps. If it is tracking/updating you location, it will drain your battery really fast. You should be able to see this, just by going to system settings->battery. Stand by or Display are usually the big battery hogs.

you should really try another battery
justmpm you're always there to help i see
Thanks for the replys everyone!
I don't know anyone with a ray battery but I can buy a new one relatively cheap so I'll do that and see how it goes
I'll post results in a few days
Well I got a new battery yesterday as suggested and tried it out from full charge but unfortunately there was no change in the battery life, it still ran all the way down in less than 20 hours with minimal use
Begining to wonder if its a hardware fault within the phone itself

H960A - ZL 9000mah batt - V10 shows wrong capacity - pls help

sup guys
in the first place id like to say a big thankyou to all the people who spend so much time in developing for this amazing phone !
with the help of rudi666 i was able to set up my h960a until it is almost perfect for my needs.
it took me 4 weeks and 3 complete wipes to finally setup a killer custom phone. though its sad that this phone doesnt get more attention. its the best phone ive ever had, very fast, reliable, great screen and cam, killer sound, no bugs at all. with root and 200gb micro SD almost infinite possibillities !
since getting a bigger battery is obligatory for everyday work with this phone, i imported 2 ZL 9000ah from usa, cost me a lot of money (customs robbery) but now i have finally an amazing phone. rootet, flashed twrp, learned a lot about flashing, related commands and all this programming stuff i had no clue about in the first place.
but there is just one issue, the community seems unable to solve:
the insane hardcoded battery-capacity of 3000mah. even after 2 weeks of only getting into just this one problem, i found no way to solve this. no matter what i do, i cant bring the phone to read the 9000mah correctly.
instead, it behaves like many unsers mentioned:
round 1
100% goes down to 0%,
shuts off.
turning the phone on manually again, starts again with 65%.
getting down to 0 again.
turning on manually again, starting with about 8% again.
turning to 0% and now its finished. start to recharge using the LG charger with 2amps.
charging for the first time, phone shows 100% after ~1,5h.
in the first place i thought: oh, that was quick. plug off charger, started to use the phone,
and the battery-information went from 100 to 0 in no time. i was confused until i got deeper into it and finally learned that, unlike my samsung S3 i used with Cyanogen, the V10 is hardcoded with the stock-battery capacity of 3000mah.
with my samsung S3 i had Anker 7000? mah and NO probs at all, everything worked fine.
what i didnt know was, that even when the phone is charging and shows 100% after about 1,5h, it needs another 5-7 hours to charge completely to a "real" 100%.
so i tried EVERYTHING my humble capabilities allowed me to. no success.
i thought that many users have the same problem, and are tired of restarting the phone after just 1/3rd of battery power drained, all the information there is should be collected in one dedicated thread. i only could find spare spreaded information about this issue on XDA.
if anyone knows of a way to set the kernel-capacity manually oder any other solution, i would be really gratefull !
thanks/greetings from berlin germany
hello ? anybody dere ?
echooooOOOOOOOooooooo hello.
after a while of using and about 5x recharging from 10/20% to 100%
AccuBattery Pro shows the estimated capacity at 89XX mah, whats really close to the ZL 9000mah.
and ive noticed that the phone now endures up to 5 days normal usage in ONE session, so no restarting is necessary !
it seems, the phone learned the new bat capacity after a while and the hardcoded 3000mah dont seem to matter anymore.
so, problem solved.
cpuZ and other apps reading the kernel-info still show 3000mah but who cares. i got 5 days in one session.
so i guess this could help some people who also be confused about this issue.
i think ZL should put this information onto their site to inform people who got the same problem as i had.
ECHHOOOOOOOOO....
