[Q] Tilt2 with no sound - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

Hey guys,
I've been lurking around for days trying to figure this issue out.
My first install of FRX06 went perfectly fine. Everything worked great.
After a while, my battery fell out of my phone. "No biggie" I said to myself. I'll just boot into WinMO and run Haret again. Once I booted into XDAndroid again I was greeted with absurd silence. I tried deleted the files and reinstalling FRX06. No luck.
recently found the HP Tool to reformat the sd card. No luck. Tried installing the Gingerbread alpha, which people have had no problems with (at least, nothing out of the oridinary.) no luck with that either.
I will admit I'm formatting the card using HP Tool while the phone is plugged into a computer in WinMobile mode. I don't know if that makes a difference or not..
I'm kinda sad, everything was working fine until the this weird issue popped up on me. I've been unable to fix it at all. if anyone has some suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming sound works in WinMo?
You're using the SD card thru Mass Storage Mode right, so the card just shows up as a disk on your computer?
You're also doing a full format, FAT32 right?
I'd say do that, full format, start fresh with the new bundle - delete anything old you have. Don't change anything with the bundle other than adding the startup and the ts-calib. See how it goes..

Thanks for the timely response!
Yes I'm using a 2GB SD Card through Mass Storage Mode. The Card shows up as a removable disk on my machine.
If by full format you mean that "quick format" is not checked, then yes. Fat32 is also selected as my option.
I will try with a fresh download of the bundle and get back to you. Thanks again!

np, let us know how it goes.

Formated and downloaded a fresh copy of Gingerbread Alpha. Still no sound.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong..

Try Froyo? Sound works in GB tho.
Sound is turned up too yes? I'm making an assumption that you're checking all these settings... What have you tried for sound to work!?!

I will not be able to try Froyo until much later today. I will keep that in mind though.
Sound is turned up. Sound also works in WinMo too. I've tried selecting a ringtone in GB to see if it'll play anything, nothing happens. If I make a call I cannot hear the other party, nor can I confirm if they can hear me lol.
The only symptom I can think of before my battery fell out was the first call I made in XDAndroid the call came in very clear, then the volume dropped into nothingness. I rebooted and it was fine again. Only weird thing i've experienced before my phone gave me the silent treatment.

No clue, other than I know it works for many.
I assume you're on the stock kernel that's included in the gb bundle? Have you tried any other kernels?
On the phone call, did you try the speakerphone on/off fix? You're not on vibrate only?

Speakerphone on/off did not work. Tried calling a coworker and he couldn't hear me through the phone.
I haven't tried any other kernel, only the stock kernel that came with the bundle. I'm assuming I should check F22's topic for the latest one?

Autobuild for the latest kernel, all the info is in the first post of my FRX06 thread.
The kernel included with the bundle works great for 99.999999%, so I'm not sure what your issue is TBH, just grabbing at straws at this point.

Back off work! Ready to give it another round.
I think my lack of admin rights (or at least the fact I was using a work computer with all kinds of access and rights restrictions) may have made my format go quirky somewhere. Format is taking a much longer time on my much faster home machine (lol). Trying out a kernel from your original post on the FRX06 thread Arrrghhh. I have a feeling this one is going to give me peace.
I will update this post with results soonish.
Again, thanks for all your help!
UPDATE
Another format. Older ROM. Particularly version htc-msm-linux @ 20110415_205352 from
http://glemsom.users.anapnea.net/android2/htc-msm-linux/
I think my options now are to just go down the list. But I'm deathly afraid nothing will end up working..

Tried everything. New SD Card. Fresh Format. New install of XDAndroid.
No sound. When I play a ringtone in settings the program crashes and throws me back to general settings..
I'm honestly all out of ideas. Never has a issue been so persistent out of nowhere for no reason.
If anyone has any more ideas, including Mr. Arrrghhh who has been ever so helpful D) I will blindly follow them! Otherwise it looks like I'll be having fun with WinMo until I get my Atrix..

Something similar happened to me several months ago...The sound was not working on Android, it worked on Windows Mobile only the headphones did not work, were not detected. I had to send my phone to the warranty for that reason.
Do not want to discourage you, but I think your device was damaged permanently. If you have warranty, take advantage.
Do not want to speculate, but there is something in the compilations or the kernels that make that happen...But remember that all these procedures are under our responsibility!

Well if there is an issue related to the headphone jack, that might explain it.
Is anything broken like that in WinMo? I'm really not sure at this point, no body has had serious issues with sound in months. The occasional report of having to flip speakerphone on/off to get audio working correcting in a phone call, but that's it.

Everything in WinMo works perfectly. Only when I boot into Android do I have no sound.

Hrm. I'm not sure, short of trying older kernels.
Well, now that I think about it - what are you settings in WinMo? Anything muted or set to vibe only?
Very few things from WinMo 'bleed' over into Android, but this may be one of them. Might also try to flash a different ROM, which one are you on?
Really grabbing at straws now, but we've gone thru all the 'normal' stuff.

If everything works in winmo there is no hardware problem and no reason for a warrenty job.
Do what arrrghhh said, start everything from fresh with the latest versions of everything

Same problem!!
I'm having almost the exact same problem and it started on very nearly the same date (give or take a few days). The only time I have any sound is if I make a call and switch on speaker phone. Then my speaker and mic are working. If I turn speaker phone off I have no ear piece sound and mic is off. I was playing with droid explorer logcat console the other night and I was seeing AudioHardwareMSM72XX( 1301): Routing audio to Wired Headset
AudioFlinger( 1301): write blocked for 180 msecs, 9 delayed writes, thread 0xbb38. Doesn't matter what android build/kernel/ril/rootfs/etc... I try I can't get anything to fix it... but WinMo sound is totally fine. I have been trying to get HYC's new ril working for me. That's when I lost sound and nothing gets it back. I've done full sd card format, re-downloaded "fresh" packages, removed media folder and put it back... I'm still fumbling my way around as far as learning to troubleshoot android but I'm learning... I'm not sure how to save logs but if any might help... a few instructions and I'll post all I can!
I was able to copy this from logcat console. I dialed *228 and switched speaker phone on and then off. Not sure how much of that this covers... but maybe it will help...

I'd say that's the culprit. I assume you don't have one plugged in? Have you tried blowing gently into the USB port? No joke, there might be something stuck in there.
Other than that, I'm not sure why the system would falsely think you're plugging in a wired headset....

Not to discount your idea...(I just blew into it and I'm rebooting into andriod now) but wouldn't that cause WinMo to think I had onen plugged in too? Is there something I can add to startup or ?.conf.? to force it to work correctly?
Well... no sound. I started logcat console as soon as I could and I think there may be some interresting stuff toward the top where it initializes the hardware. I saw something about sharing a memory allocation I think... it's just below " >>>>>>>>>>>>>> AndroidRuntime START <<<<<<<<<<<<<<"...
Thanks again for your help! This project has definately come a long way because of you!
I have been running the stock Verizon updated rom... I reflashed the same rom and sound in Android is back!!!

Phone voice too soft

HI all.. my phone is giving me abit of problems lately..
my voice into the phone is too soft. but this only happens when i'm talking through the phone. I don't have any problems if i'm using blue tooth, or voice recording. Only through the phone.
Anyone know how to fix it?
Did you get some dirt in to the microphone whole?
don't think so, voice recording works fine

hmmm.... if the hardware mic is free of debris, you might want to reflash a radio and see if that helps, might have become somewhat corrupted.
well i reflashed everything. It's working now.. but i lost alot of data my first reflash so i didn't backup everything, only some stuff.. now trying to rebuilt my tytn again.. sigh..
anyone got a guide to what data to backup? or how to backup?
spb backup
spb clone
sprite backup
sunnysoft backup manager
thats all i can think of right at this minute
Update
it's happening again. I just flashed my ROm to scap's latest 4.0 RC,
radio to anotehr newer version also. But after flashing scap's one for 2 days it happened again.
Only other thing i did in the middle was a restore using PIMBackup which was backedup few days ago (while i had the same problem)
i suspect that it could be something to do with my backup, but i'm not sure... anyone have any ideas?
update again..
i did this that i found from another thread.. seems to work for now
I made the following experiment
I changed the value (default was 32)
HKLM/Software/HTC/StartupAnimation /Volumn
One time to 64 and I got the startup animation sound half volume and when the phone booted it was the same half volume as the startup animation
Then I made the value 16 and the volume of the startup animation and the phone after boot was twice louder than the value of 32
The phone starts with the volume that set for the startup animation and it changes volume after some time
put this key to value 0 (zero) and you have the phone boots at high normal audio level

thanks for the idea. seems that soft reset helped. "reseted" the sound back to normal
now i gotta figure out the cause of it..
i just rebuilt my thing, this time without putting any backup restore stuff yet.. it's already soft..
Guess i gotta check next time if this happens again, does soft reset fixes it. And hopefully find the root cause of this whole thing

Cant make or answer calls with 2.1 root

I have eris21official-root.zip and sense-able 2.0.
When the phone rings I slide the slider down to answer and I cant hear anyone and the caller cant hear me. The call timer never starts. I had my friend sitting next to me call me, I answer and he hears in his earpiece my phone stop ringing but we cant hear each other.
When I try to make a call the contact picture comes up but no timer and the call doesnt ring in my earpiece or on his phone. Its like the phone is not connecting.
If I power down the phone and back up it works....and then a few calls later the same thing....nothing.
Any ideas?
I also have two icons in my programs for PDF viewer and contacts. They are side by side...
I hate to be a bother. I have read all I could to resolve this without posting but nothing worked.
Any help would be appreciated.
Do a factory wipe, and a dalvik with. Then reset the phone up, and do the 228 activation again. Still won't work, use my downgrade and wait for a rom based on the offical 2.1 upgrade.
NOOO!!! go into settings and change tty mode to off trust me
i have been having this same problem oh my god.. finally someone wth the same problem as me.. what i did was installed the heroic radio and did a *228 activation.. it has worked for me so far its been two days without the phone messing up..

Thanks for the reply, but tty was already off.
i can also vouch for this...my wife's eris has the same issues. In fact, she has had two eris's that have had it. I have checked the TTY and the also flashed the newest heroc radios to no avail. If anyone else has any ideas, it looks like i will have to revert hers back to 1.5

[HELP] Audio cuts out. No sound during phone calls.

So I recently just rooted my droid and I'm running the evileris firmware atm I'm really happy with everything except that my phone can no longer make phone calls. The sound during phone calls does not work and I think it may not work sometimes in the music player as well. It works when I plug in the headphones but when i take them out no sound.
Airplane mode and resetting do not fix this problem and the updates that I've tried flashing from [FIX] Audiofix. NEED TESTERS FOR NEW KERNEL in the Hero CDMA forum do not work either.
This phone worked fine before rooting and flashing and the problem is present on all the roms I've used. The update above simply hangs my phone at the bootscreen, no matter which one I use. (Maybe its written just for hero?)
Anyways I was hoping one of you guys could have a fix or maybe have also had this same problem? Thanks!
(from what I've read in the thread above it seems the issue is a bad kernel that hangs up or fails to reset so you have to do it manually, but resetting doesn't fix the issue for my. My problem is constant phone call audio loss)
UPDATE: I have done some more experimenting and it seems the only problem is from the in-cal speaker, because when I put speakerphone on it works fine. The problem lies with the front speaker (part that goes to your ear).
maybe your phone is broken?
I went back down to 1.5 root, works fine. Its an issue with 2.1 :/ So currently I have 2 nandroid backups, 1 of 1.5 and 1 of 2.1 so I'm just switching in between the two.
did you try....
Did you wipe before flashing? After flashing did you try *228 opt 1? This may help as it sorted my audio issues with another Rom.
im having this same problem and i have no clue why i have tried everything knows possible to fix this.
I wipe before each flash as well as each recovery haha. atm my setup is 2.1 evil eris for the weekends and 1.5root for the weekday when i actually need to make calls
*228 opt 1 did not work btw
I just make a new backup at the end of the week and recover to the other one, works like a dual-boot pc or a bootcamp mac. It works, but its getting kidna old I'd rather just have 2.1 for good haha.
Longtime lurker.....1st time poster....I just installed leak v2 (I was one of those that was too impatient to wait for root)...I had the same problem that everything worked fine except the phone had no in call sound. went through all the setting and found that TTY was set to full...I unchecked it and the sound came back. I know this may be simple...but it worked for me.

I'm having the same problem... During a phone call, I get no sound / can't hear the person I am calling from the "internal speakers" (i.e. the one you hold to your ear during a call). If I switch to external speakers (i.e. loudspeakers) I can hear the person I'm calling...
What is this "TTY" setting that fixed this problem for you? Where can I find it and uncheck it?

[Q] Intermittent voice issues

So I have run in to a bit of a snag, and though I doubt it is ROM specific, I thought I'd start by asking here to see if anyone else has run across this and might have a fix
I first noticed it when I was running ShiftAO5P 3.2, and though I didnt specifically think 3.2.1 would fix it, I tried that, and now the problem has come back.
The gist of the issue is that if I havent used my phone to talk to someone for some unspecified length of time, when I call someone, they cant hear me. I can hear them just fine, but they can't hear anything from my end. If I hang up, and call right back, then it all works fine. Also, it is fine if they call me - works right away without having to re-make the call.
Like I said, I did a complete reload to get to 3.2.1(full wipe, and even reformatted sd card), and since I suspected the tiamat kernel and the call recorder app I had been using under 3.2, I didnt reload those pieces and stuck with just the stock 3.2.1
Everything seemed OK for about the first week or so, but now it is doing the same thing again.
I am guessing it is some app, but I have no idea how to try to chase it down.
I have a logcat that I just dumped right after the problem happened, but dont really know what process to look for.
Any suggestions? TIA!!!

Ringtone Reverts to "Silent"

Hey all,
A few days ago, I noticed my phone was only vibrating during incoming calls. I checked the Ringtone section in the sound settings and found that the selected "Tone" was "Silent."
I've tried changing the ringtone to various different sounds, but it continues to revert back to silent. The ringer, itself, ISN'T on silent. It's just the ringtone that seems to get changed somehow.
Anyone else encounter this issue and know how to get it resolved?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Are you trying to set it to one of the built-in ringtones, or a custom one you added? If it's a custom one, is it on the SD card? I've had problems in the past with phones "losing" ringtones that were installed on the SD card, rather than internal memory.

I thought you might be on to something there, so I made sure that all of my ringtones and notifications were copied to internal storage and deleted all sounds from my SD card.
I rebooted, setup my sounds again, and had my wife call me a few times over a period of about 2 hours. Rang every time.
Then, just now, I noticed I had 3 missed calls from clients. NOT good. Checked the ringtone settings and it was back to "Silent" again! Infuriating.
It's not the location of the file. And, now that I think about it, if it HAD been the issue, I would've been experiencing loss of notification tones in all of my other apps too.
This problem has seemingly arisen out of nowhere. The ringer worked perfectly fine during the first few weeks I've had the S9+. It just started doing this to me a couple of days ago. I'd really rather not go through the annoyance of a hard reset...
Damn it, this is getting REALLY annoying
HaaaaLP MEEEEEH!
I'm having the same issue on my Samsung Note 8. Began happening after the device received the Android 8.0 update. I've tried everything and it seems to happen completely randomly. HELP!
Mine is working fine. I have mine on the internal storage in the Ringtones folder /0/Ringtones/ it's an mp3 less than 2MB in size. Not that I know any of that makes any difference.

I hated doing it, but I just performed a factory reset. Been setting up my phone again for hours and I'm not yet done.
So far, it's ringing, but I'm going to be really disappointed if it reverts to silent again. I'll keep you posted.

Tried that too. It worked for a while then randomly went to silent again. It will stay on the ringtone I set for sometimes as long as a day, but eventually it reverts to silent.

So far so good. I've had 7 incoming calls and the ringtone I've selected has stayed in place. For me, before the reset, it would revert to "Silent" after the 2nd call. Fingers crossed.
Same exact thing is happening to me on my HTC U11.
It started happening right away after a full wipe and install of Bad Boyz ROM (Android 8.0). No one else in that ROM thread seems affected.
I have tried just picking a built in ring tone too, and that will also revert. Sometimes it happens within a few minutes, sometimes it takes hours.

That is exactly what happens to me. Custom ringtones make no difference. I've assigned rintones to all my important contacts and those ring through no matter if on silent mode or not. Like you, sometimes it stays put for hours and other times it changes back after a few minutes. Rebooting seems to help it last longer, but I find myself checking my phone all the time to be sure it hasn't gone to silent ringtone. Frustrating!

I don't believe anyone is *blaming* Samsung although the thread did begin in a Samsung forum. We're just trying to find out why our phones are behaving badly and hoping to find a way to fix a really frustrating problem. Do you have a suggestion on where we might look?
Well, I think it's safe to say that the hard reset did the trick. Ringtone is sticking now. Hooray.

Glad to hear this seems to be working, but not glad that the answer is factory reset. I really, really don't want to go through that. I think I'll suffer along a bit longer and see if someone comes up with a work around or perhaps an app that can lock the ringtone. One can hope.

Yeah, it was a bit of a pain in the a$$, but worth it. Reset definitely did the trick.
I have the same problem on my S9+ since the last update. the basic sound settings revert to Silent as do custom settings. Has anyone contacted Samsung to dee what their excuse is?
Hi Folks, I've been having the same issue since 3 weeks ago. Called Samsung and was told to delete my customized settings. That DID NOT WORK. Finally a Fix. I wipe my cache partition and it worked.
Turn off your phone. Turn it on while holding Power, Bixby, and Vol. Up buttons until you get the menu. Use volume down to get to Wipe Cache Partition (NOT wipe Personal data/factory reset.) Press PWR to accept.
This does not erase anything and it's worked problem free for about a week. I read in other forums that changing the SIM has fixed this issue, but changing your SIM will clear the Cache as well.
Hope this works for you.
The solution is to quickly remove the old ringtone and replace the new ringtone for the phone
