Since I got the phone and tried just about every rom, kernel and modem, i have nothing but signal drop all the time. My modem flips between 3g and 1x, I.cannot go back to eclair, but I need the phone to have a steady data connection for work. Currently I odin'd EB01 with nothing else and I am still having the problem...

Sometimes you have to flash that modem twice for good measures and after booting follow up with *22899 to update roaming. Which ROM, kernel, and modem you on anyways?
I am STILL having modem issues, I used the packaged 2.1 that was liek 400 megs and had modem kernel and stock eclair all packaged up, and i have done the official ota upgrades to the newer eclair AND now to froyo and STILL having the modem issues...
someone PLEASE help.....
Have you tried flashing JUST the modem? Try the EC01 modem in the Development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029436
ONLY flash the radio in Odin. Like vi3tboiii54 said, sometimes ya have to do it a second time if you don't see a change upon bootup. Godspeed.
have you updated your prl?
I have now just tried to flash the modem multiple times and I am still getting the same problem...i dont understand how this is possible, and as I have no warranty (bought it on clist) i am screwed.....
*228 is your friend...
I've had that problem since the first froyo modem (couldn't really ***** to vzw then and just used the DL09 modem) and I've *228'd my brains out. Got fed up took it in to the store bone ota stock with speed test installed. While rep was playing with the device it locked to 1x in a store with network extenders, lol. Got a new device on the way no questions (I know that's no help to you op). I just knew once the ota hit that this issue would be more prevalent on many devices. And that's indicated with all the new my signal sucks threads in the last week.
good day.
Looks like it might be a VZW issue. VZW iPad 2 3G's are having problems with 3G dropping.
Can't post link yet, but just Google "Verizon Wireless 3g issues" under News.
The workaround is "re-enabling the 3G radio then rebooting the entire iPad".
iPhone's caused issues on the AT&T network and now the iPhone and iPad are probably causing network issues on VZW.

If you are having 3G signal loss issues, please post your build date and modem version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051543
Build date can be found by pulling battery and looking at number next to 500V (E.g. 10.08)

good day.
I installed ComRom when it was released, did not go to ED01 modem. Was not having any 3g issues until this morning. Yesterday I was pulling 1.9mb download and 1mb upload. This morning, 3g keeps going out on me, and its pulling .1mb dl and .3mb upload. Seems real wierd, I never changed the modem at all. I hope itsa verizon problem.
http://community.vzw.com/t5/4G-Discussion/ATTN-Verizon-Reps-ref-LTE-outage-ETA-for-repair-and-other/m-p/513354
Verizon is having issues. Not the ROM or Modem.
Just did a side-by-side test using my ChromeOS notebook on my Verizon connection. Phone on desk, notebook on lap, less than 20" between them.
Notebook gets 1.38Mbps down, .37Mbps up with a 219ms ping.
Phone gets 55kbps down, 10kbps up with a 948ms ping.
At least in this area, it's definitely not the network.
My fascinate gets stuck in 1x all the time also. My wife's doesn't. So I called Czech and my new one is supposed to be here today.....
I have the problem pop up on the occasion. Whenever i get stuck on 1x or no data, I just put the phone into airplane mode for 10 seconds and 3g returns after exiting airplane mode.
Related
So all of a sudden my TB's 3G started acting odd. It disappears (the 3G icon disappears) unless I'm checking for updates, in which case it randomly reappears and seems to be doing work. Toggling airplane mode on and off doesn't help nor does turning the phone on and off. I can still get texts and calls but no 3G...
Tried everything (going back to ROMs that were backed up from a few days ago) as well as flashing that full new ROM/radio update. Wasn't doing anything specific before it went out...
Any ideas?

I didn't find that this worked at all. Only since the new radio was installed have I found 3g drop because I know I am in a partial 4g area. So for the time being I don't want to turn of the ePHRD. Has anyone else experienced this since upgrading radio and such?

Well I did upgrade the radio and this fixed the problems I was having. Getting great speeds now. But I'm far away from any 4G areas :/
I am having all kinds of problems today with the 3g icon going on and off. Sometimes when its on I still do not have data connectivity. Is this a verizon problem or just the new radio?
I think it has to do with LTE being prepped to roll out and more intensive stress-tests that they may be planning.
I've been having similar issues. I did the entire rooting process then flashed BAMF 1.5 and had little radio issues, but once I saw the 3G cut out a couple times yesterday, I flashed the radio that was already on my SD card. Since then it randomly cuts in and out, and sometimes requires a full phone reboot to come back. I don't think it's Verizon at all (at least not in my case), although my area is supposed to get 4G sometime this year.
I'm hoping the official OTA has a "better" radio that can fix these issues...since I sort of had issues like this in Boston when I was stock, but at home out in Central MA, 3G was as solid as ever.
Just an update in case anyone was reading this older thread--I continued to have signal issues for a day or two after rooting but I think I just had bad timing on flashing the new radio. I've spoken to a few Verizon customers (my mom included) and many of them had 3G issues the last couple days. Yesterday it was solid as a rock, signal better than I'm used to. So it probably was just a Verizon outage, testing 4G or whatever it was that they've been doing.
It's Verizon outages right now, lots of testing upgrading going on with VZW right now.
Hello Friend Citizen! You have come to this thread because your 3g is not working correctly. You may have a 1x lock or even no data at all. It is important that you follow these steps:
1. DO NOT PANIC
2. DO NOT DECIDE TO BADMOUTH A ROM/RADIO/KERNEL ETC. (its not their fault. Honestly!)
3. Breathe.
4. See step 1.
Now that we've gone that far, let me first say that VZW is having network issues. Due to these issues, they have been causing phones in different areas and even random phones (not always your friends in the same area) to lose 3g. This is affecting the Fascinate as well as the ThunderBolt, the PALM PRE and many other verizon 3g and 4g phones.
On the offchance that it is actually a modem problem, simply backup your rom and restore to stock via odin. Test out your 3g and if it is still lost, relax and restore your rom and wait for VZW to get their act together.
You can use the DL09 package in this thread to test the stock radio.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044474
Probably not the correct place to post this, but great thread
yeah, mine literally went out in the last 30 minutes, tried *228 option 1 and after rebooting nothing changed....but now according to the network *228 is "not a valid number"
anyone want to conspire about how this could be a part of implementing the "if you're rooted we will deny you data access" drama that was floating around recently?
Nahh...
Double-checked with a coworker who also has a Fascinate. Bone-stock DL09 and she has no data right now, as well.
I've gone back to DL09 several time running stock, unlock, non-root...and 3G still wacked.
Let it OTA update to ED01 stock (took damn 3 hours) and still wacked
Took it to verizon store to show them a vanilla stock ED01 with 3G issue. They confirmed the hardware was hosed and will be sending me a new one.
I also went to the Verizon store an hour ago to have my phone looked at. The rep called a tech and apparently he said that my phone wasn't receiving any data from their side. So he reset my data and wamo.. pages are loading, the market works, and I'm still on dl09 modem. Going to flash EC01 and see what happens. Definintly something wrong on their side of this.
any links to the data outage information?

I don't think it's the hardware, Verizon is having confirmed data issues. Their 4G network went down earlier today and all devices fell back to 3G, which is now having issues. Mine actually came back a little while ago only to disappear again....it's a flaky network at this point. The guy at the Verizon store doesn't have the ability to assure you your hardware is hosed. That was opinion.
On the phone with a tech right now. Let's see what they can do for me.

just took a poll in the office out of the 5 devices I checked 2 are stuck on 1x (a fasc and a tunabolt). The other three (2 fasc and one inc) are fine.
weird how random it is... all 5 devices are rooted, rom'ed etc..
3G is starting to come back for me. Its sketchy and slow but before as soon as it would pop up if I tried to use it it would flake out. Now it works most of the time but its like its really under a heavy load.

no its not. its the same thing. there is no functioning 4g network in the world. the "4g" that the networks are feeding us is just a slightly increase bandwidth aloted to certian phones. 4g is a gigabit network and requires different hardware in the towers. the load of crap that the networks are shoveling as "4g" is basiclly the same as you calling your cable company and increasing your cable modem speed. they are simply increasing the landline bandwidth to allow for increased use.
the problem comes from vzw not properly anticipating bandwidth demands after "4g" was launched.
Honestly I lost my 3G while messing around in the **772. I ended up just calling tech. They had to remove what ever identifys me on there 3g network. Then reactivate.. in seconds my 3g became active.... Though the tech was confused to why I was showing me roaming.... and yes data roaming was unchecked and system select set to home... But never the less I'm good now.....

Ok, i have finally received the much anticipated 1.83 update. I did a final speedtest to kiss my slow speeds goodbye, and installed the new update. Before the update my speeds were 1.89 mbps down and .43 mbps up.. now after the upgrade i am getting .43 mbps down and .11 mbps up!!! what is going on? i have hard reset my phone, i have tested multiple times with an excellent signal and now my phone craaaawwwllsss. i cant even download anything from the app store because of my connection.
Has anyone had a similar issue, is there a way to go back to 1.57?
Thanks for listening to my rant.

I updated y plugging my phone into my computer and updating through the motorola update software.
I think the downstream speeds are less after the update. Fastest speeds of all for me were using the Telstra radio from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052914
But this was before the update and while I am tempted to go back to the Telstra radio I am not flashing it at the current time. Mainly because I don't have an sbf with the .83 radio to go back to if there is an issue. So I would strongly advise against using the Telstra radio (post update) until one of the developers figures it out, confirms it is ok and provides an oem .83 update radio to fall back on.
At first I thought it was a time of day thing but I am convinced the downstream speeds are less. As to the other question in this thread I don't think afterupdate will work if you didn't run the beforeupdate on .57 before updating. You can go back to .26 and then to .57 but I don't think directly back to .57. This is what I recall seeing in vrs threads.
If you do a search you will see folks are using Gingerbreak to gain root after the update.
Imho
I'll try to use gingerbreak once I am in a position to backup my micro SD. I really hate having to restart my phone every time I need to use the SD for mass storage.
im not on the edge network, i dont think, my phone shows h+ and in my system settings i am now on hspa instead of hsdpa. im in the cincinnati market.
Do some real-world testing in addition to speedtest type stuff. Speedtest app has a lot of variance for me post-update. Down is 2-3.5mbit, up ranges from 400kbit-1.5mbit. The down is pretty much as it was before. The up is a good bit better than the 150kbit I had pre-upgrade but it almost looked throttled...initial burst then flat 400kbit after a few seconds.
I did test FTP and scp file uploads to a few different places and the upstream seemed more stable than speedtest suggests. Stayed above 1mbit and usually around 1.5mbit.

I did a spf flash yesterday and I have really good speeds at home. At work, it's another story. Since I only get 1 bar here in the office, the old radio performed better by having a consistent connection whereas the new update has is having a hard time maintaining the connection. Sucks since I use my the cell connection more at work than at home.
I believe ATT just released the 1.83 update OTA. I got a notification asking me to update. I'm holding back until I see some more information of what changes after the update.

yea, my real world test is that out in the open air, i cannot even log onto marketplace, it just gives me a network error. I can hit up a simple website, like a blog and after about 2 minuets i will show some activity. its dead in the water. after driving around a bit, there were some towers that gave me upwards of 4.5 mbps download before the update, now those towers are giving me about .95 download. im screwed.
Updated without problem
I used the today released 4.1.83 OTA. It worked fine and I don't see any differences with the previous version

Try this, I did a battery pull on mine after 2 reboots and still connecting to Edge.. after the battery pull, back to *cough H+...... speed on upload went to 1.49Mbps...

I havent done anything to my phone lately and besides just having roms on it...so i my 3g and 4g data is now gone and i get 1x signal. The signal alternates from 1x to no signal at all. ps. i have been struggling with this for 2 weeks and ive decided to try and fix it, but no luck
edit: ive taken the battery out and luck either, i also found a thread on how to fix the problem but it didnt help
i too have had this problem for 5 days now. i have been thinking of flashing the phone again to see if it would fix it.
Well i got some signal now, i went ahead and just added another ROM. I get signal every now and then, but i think i would have been better off with just constant 1x signal, instead of having no signal at all then some 3g coverage (really slow for some reason).
I just rooted my girlfriend's Thunderbolt last night and I'm having this same issue.
I had to roll back her latest OTA update and go back to 2.11.605.0 and then run Revolutionary. Since I rolled back her software, though, I've had the 1x signal issue. I assumed that installing the new ROM would fix this (BAMF Forever 1.10).
I've installed BAMF after using Superwipe, and everything runs smoothly. It's a great ROM. However, I can't get anything above 1x signal.
I've done the trick using ##778 and changing the Rev. A setting...no dice (and from what I've read, this is better in areas with no 4G. I live in Brooklyn, so I definitely want the 4G LTE).
I've tried the MR4 radio released just a few days ago, the radio from 2.11.605.9 OTA, and the MR3 radio. Same problem. I guess I'm going to try out the remaining radios I haven't touched, but I honestly don't think that will do anything.
Does anyone have any suggestions??

Update: 9/6
So after waiting what seemed like forever I got the call that the network ticket is closed and switched back to jellybeans b21 and like man of you guys suspected my data speeds are still normal. Guess it was just something to do with the way or amount or roms I flashed who knows
So I have been running various ROMs since release of the note 2 (maybe stock for about a week) and recently my data speeds on 3g started being really slow.
So I called Verizon support about it and they always gave me some run around about my coverage area had me do device resets ect...
Well It finally came down to them sending me a new sim card to see if it resolved the issue. After activating the sim I did some data tests and it was still slow around 120kbps.
This is when it got interesting the rep asked me for the Baseband version in the about phone settings to make sure I was running the newest software. Since I had updated the Radios manually I told her i605vramc3 just like I told the last rep that asked. She replied "That's odd that isn't what our system is showing" then she transferred me to the next level of tech support.
This rep decided to open a network ticket and asked a lot of questions about my preferred network and signal strength as well as some location information. He told me that network engineers would be looking at the towers and possibly running some remote diagnostics on my phone.
Fearing that the remote diagnostic would give away that I was rooted and running a custom ROM I shut down the phone and pulled the battery until I reverted to stock.
Now just for fun I loaded up speed test and where I was getting 75-100kbps I am now pulling a hearty 1500-2300kbps in the same place.
To be clear this is not just a problem I experienced with a single rom the problem persisted across about 5 ROMs PA, Aokp, Cleanrom ace, and Jelly beans as well as a few different kernels.
So my here is my question Is there some other explanation for this behavior? or Has Verizon figured out how to throttle data for ROM users?
Is Anyone else seeing this issue?
Once I am notified about the network ticket being closed I plan to re-root and start from my freshly updated system and see if there is any difference. I will update this post with my findings.
I think what fixed your device data speed was reflashing back to stock via odin. I have had wierd issues with data speeds flashing radios via recovery...a simple odin session always seems to fix it.
Have you tried flashing all of the roms you mentioned after going back to stock each time?
Im in the Louisville KY area and have consistently gotten between 40mbps to 65mbps. I've used cleanROM Jedi pacman tons of others. Not ran into a problem yet.
I've got some pics if you want proof. Holla!

I have not seen this slowdown issue. But, I can see the cell tower ΒΌ mile away.
I am in Palatka Fl and the server is in Jacksonville.

I think what fixed your device data speed was reflashing back to stock via odin. I have had wierd issues with data speeds flashing radios via recovery...a simple odin session always seems to fix it.
Have you tried flashing all of the roms you mentioned after going back to stock each time?

I haven't tried flashing after going back to stock but I plan on doing so once the network ticket is closed on my account. I am just a bit freaked out by the possibility of them doing a remote diagnostic on my phone while on a rom
