[Q] Radio Flash after flashing BAMF 1.5 - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
So I'm a bit confused about the radio. I flashed new basebands on my Droid 1 all the time, so I'm familiar with the idea. But I mistakenly flashed BAMF 1.5 directly after the manual rooting process, rather than the radio (which at the time apparently was missing the LTE portion of the update?). I tried to install the newly-fixed version that includes the LTE portion, and Clockwork is unable to install from the zip. Am I missing something? Or maybe there's a way to boot to the old "white" menu where there's a few different options, rather than just Clockwork recovery?
Thanks for any help. If I don't respond tonight, I fell asleep.

You need to boot into the bootloader and flash the file from there, not from recovery. The file must be named PG05IMG.zip and be located in the root (not in a folder) of your sdcard. Turn off the device. Hold volume down and turn it on, you should get the white screen. pick the top option (bootloader) and then wait, it should recognize the file, ask you to push volume up to confirm, and then flash it. After you reboot, delete the file from the sdcard, and then you can resume flashing roms from CWR =)

Aah, OK--a bit different than how the Droid worked, where I remember applying .zip files with radios through SPRecovery (and maybe Clockwork too?). I'll do it this way after/during work, since the file is already on the SD card. Thanks!

image gone, and ROMS do not install... am i bricked?

i was recently at the movies (prince of persia =P ) and i accidentally left my screen on in my pocket... after the movie was over i took my phone out and all i saw was a multi colored screen with red green blue white (boot loader?) i tried everything to restart my phone to get back to my Os but seems everything was somehow wiped clean. i got home and have been spending all day trying to install new roms and each time when i run the RUU updater, it says image: (blank), the installer still runs and seems likes it works but no rom is installing i am still stuck with the multi colored screen. how can i salvage my phone, what could be wrong? =/ thx guys
i tried installing a new rom from the bootloader screen while connected via usb... but everything i try gets stuck at 0% and doesnt do anything... my hardspl is currently not unlocked and i am constantly trying to install the Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.exe and everytime... stuck at 0% on the phone..
Try the flash from memory card method:
1. Find a ROM that would be compatible with your phone, and download the nbh file. (I would recommend Original Carrier ROM - There is copies all over forums - that way it will flash everything, including the radio)
2. Plug your memory card to a computer and verify/format the card into FAT32 file system
3. Copy the ROM file (usually RUU_Signed.nbh) into the memory card directly (not inside any folder) and rename to RAPHIMG.nbh
4. Reboot the phone
5. When it reboots into three-color screen again, there should be a message that in order to flash you need to press Power button or so. Do it.
6. After your phone is working again, you might flash it with another ROM if you like.
Let me know...
Good luck
try theses two options, either flash back to stock rom which might fix the issue, but before you do that just flash a radio to the phone that should fix the issue

That's the reason I recommended flashing stock ROM. Verizon released Maintenance Release, which is a complete reflash with radio and everything.
You could get Verizon complete file from: http://pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=110&cid=1&mid=328&carrier=Verizon Wireless
You didn't specify which carrier you are with so I can't help any further. Just remember to extract the .nbh file from inside instead of putting a whole .zip file on the memory card. I hope I didn't come across wrong.

HELP Lost Radio

Rooted the device.... all ok.
Installed ROM Manager and then installed BAMF-Sense3-RC4
Now there is now phone (radio)
I tried to install these:
(MR2)PG05IMG
(MR2.5)PG05IMG
(06275r)PG05IMG
As they appear to be the "radio" but they all fail the install.
What now?
You are renaming them to "PG05IMG.zip" on the root of the sdcard then with the phone off, holding Power and Down to boot to hboot, and let them flash right?
Sounds like you might be trying from recovery if they all fail which is the incorrect procedure for flashing radios.
Oh no! I wasnt doing that at all ;(
So rename each one at a time and put the file in the root of the SDCARD.
Then do I just reboot or do something special?
-Place whichever one of those radio files that you want to flash onto the root of your sdcard (you only need to flash one of them. Check the forum for your Rom to see which is recommended by its users but all are should work to some degree).
-Make sure it is named "PG05IMG.zip".
-Turn your phone off.
-Hold Power and Volume Down to boot to hboot.
-Follow the instructions to install which should start automatically then when it tells you that it is finished hit Power.
-Remove the zip file from your sdcard when you are done.
thanks for the help!!
While I was trying to figure out what to do I put the original ROM back on the device and then the radio works. I guess the ROM and the Radio need to go together?
Some rom builds require certain radios to work yes. But that info should always be posted in the rom thread and usually in the OP.
OK sounds like my problem is the radio wasnt flashed first. I have flashed the radio and now working on installing again.
at least I have a little clue what I am doing now, thanks to your help! thank you!!!!

Lol we were all new at one point at doing this. Yeah, anytime you run into a PG05IMG.zip file, you're going to have to go through HBoot to flash those files. You'll have to do this as well if you're trying to unroot your phone with the RUU file. Just remember, ALWAYS REMOVE/RENAME THE PG05IMG.ZIP FILE WHEN YOU'RE DONE!! This will solve a lot of headaches in the future. I guarantee that
P.S. Don't forget to hit the Thanks button for Absolute_Zero

Can't Activate... please help

So I got a thunderbolt yesterday to replace my X2.
I activated the phone and then rooted it.
I downloaded InfuseTheory and installed it. Booted up and I got to the activation screen. After waiting for more than 20 mins and not getting anywere, I restarted and tried again but had no luck.
I've tried to flash a diff. radio but it wouldn't flash. Tried a diff rom but it's still not activating. Also tried 2 diff kernels and still nothing.
I'm not getting any bars, there's just an x right on the signal bars.
Can someone please help me, I had to reactive my X2, and it says I have 90 days 'till my sim expires.
Thanks
if you reactivated.your old droid.you gonna need a new sim but it sounds like the radio was wrong

The radio was working fine until I flashed a new rom and wiped data/cache.
I'm pretty sure it's a software issue.
Isn't there anything else I can do?

That's what he's saying. You flashed a MR2 rom without flashing the MR2 radio.
Then when you tried to flash a radio and it wouldn't flash to begin with, you probably tried to flash it in recovery. That's not correct. You name it PG05IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard and boot to hboot. Do a little more research
Ok thank you, now I kinda get it.
So what can I do fix the issue. I already have the radio, should I just boot into hboot and let it do its thing?
Would you please please help me or point me towards the right link?

Either radio from this thread will work. I use the MR2 radio.
Like Absolute_Zero said, name it "PG05IMG.zip" and make sure it's on the root of the SD card. Boot into hboot (hold volume down with power button from full power off) and it will automatically prompt you to start an update. Select yes, let it do it's thing, and then you should be good to go.
If you already have the MR2 radio downloaded (I would reccomend the one labled official MR2) You need to rename it PG05IMG.zip (it is case sensitive and the 0 is a zero) and place it on the root of your sdcard. (not in any folders) Turn the phone off completely. Pull the battery to be sure. Then put the battery back in, press and hold the volume down button and the power button until you the see the hboot (bootloader) screen show up. If you have the PG05IMG.zip on your sd card it will automatically detect it and ask you to press volume up to start the update. Let it do its thing and then when it asks press power to reboot the phone.
IMPORTANT: after you are done, and boot up to confirm it worked by making sure you have a signal. Delete or rename the PG05IMG.zip on your sd card. It will only cause trouble if you leave it there and then need to access recovery from a bootloop or similar situation.

Ok guys I got it to work. Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it.
I had to go to the Verizon store and get a new LTE card, the guy reallly liked the sense 3.0 lockscreen on my rooted thunderbolt.

[Q] Restoring everything to stock using RUU-extracted zip.

Hello.
My phone is starting to act funny, it has the quite common problem where the touch function on the bottom half of the screen stops working properly.
Since I'm going to send it in, I'd like to return everything to as close to the shipping state as possible. I don't care if I still have Clockworkmod left on it or if I make it unrootable, since I'm going to buy a new phone and sell this one when the contract runs out in a few months anyway.
I've tried searching for the info I need but there are still some things I'm unclear about.
The phone is currently running VillainMod and has ClockWorkMod installed as a bootloader. I was running CM on it until a few days ago, but I tried installing a Sense-based ROM to see if I could get the RUU .exe method to work, but it fails after the phone has rebooted and just says that it cannot update the phone. Any ideas what's causing this? (I used the file RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed.exe)
So since the "official" method failed I found the rom.zip that is unpacked by the RUU program and copied it.
Here is where I'm not sure how to proceed. Should I sign the zip-file (using testsign.jar) and then do "apply update.zip" from ClockWorkMod OR should I extract the boot.img, data.img, recovery.img, system.img and radio.img files from the zip, generate a md5 file (how?) and restore it using the backup feature in Clockwork?
Or is maybe both of these ideas totally of the mark?
Any help is appreciated. Do tell if there is some more info you need.
I personally don't think you should go with that plan. I'm not a big scientist when it comes to phone development since I'm still learning. But I think you should go backwards and check what went wrong.
Edit:
I also think that the new rom might have different requirements from the previous one. Usually that causes a problem if you try to flash a rom without fitting the requirements.
No you need to rename the Rom.zip to heroimg.zip then shut down phone and reboot into hboot mode by using power and vol down

[Q] Trouble with bootloop post-ICS flash

Hey guys, Im in urgent need of help here.
I'll give you an exact account of what i did.
saved apps via Ti. Back.; uploaded the new ICS radios and debloated, deodexed rom from my computer to my tbolt, renamed the radio from my computer; booted into 4ext, nandroid, wiped EVERYTHING, booted into bootloader; bootloader detected the new radio and I confirmed its update
Next thing that happened was that the HTC splash screen appeared as normal but disappeared, leaving a blank screen with dim backlight. Pulled battery and tried to reboot 10+ times to no avail. Same thing happens everytime. ADB doesn't recognize the phone but i CAN boot into bootloader. The problem is that everytime I boot into bootloader, the radio begins to update, leaving with the only option to reboot. Thus, I cant get into recovery.
I've spent the past couple hours trying to do my homework on this but its not looking too hot. I need this bad boy, so help is much appreciated.
Doug
You need to take the radio off the sd card, so you can boot to recovery and actually flash the rom.
Sounds like you haven't flashed a rom yet, so it has nothing to boot into.
With the radio image (PG05IMG.zip) on the root it will not go to Recovery.
So you will need to find a card reader to rename the radio file, since you wiped prior to flashing the radios.
The preferred process would have been to flash the radios, boot to your current rom, rename the radio file from within the current rom.
Then boot to recovery and flash the new rom.
I somewhat outlined this in the OP of the rooted rom thread where you should have gotten the download from.

Makes sense.I dont know why I read "wipe everything" before the rest of your thread and thought that meant to do so before reflashing radios.
Got a $10 reader and was able to change the radio file and boot into recovery. Flashed the rom as usual and it looks lke everythings working.
Thanks for the help man.
