[Q] new radio question... - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to download and install the new radio. But I noticed that in the original post the file is around 400mb. I was looking through the das bamf 1.5 thread and the new radio file to download there is only around 25mb. That is a huge difference. I am planning on using das bamf 1.5 as I currently run 1.4 and it is stable.
So what's the difference between the 2 radio downloads? Or are they the same? Please help me understand
Thanks.

Jcase posted the full update (rom and radio) whereas bamf 1.5 is only the modified rom and the separate 25mb file is the radio itself.

Thank you kind sir I kinda of thought that. Thanks for the clarification.
So from what I understand the process is something like this
-Put file on root of SD card (named properly)
-Reboot into recovery and wipe data/cache davlik cache.
-turn phone off. Reboot into hboot, allow radio update procedure.
-ok now here is where I need some clarification. I think here I want to boot back to recovery but is it ok to boot into my current Rom (das bamf 1.4) to move/delete the radio update, then boot into recovery?
I was going to ask next if the 25mb radio file was rooted, but I think root is not relevant in the radio aspect. Right?
Thanks!
-boot into recovery and flash das bamf 1.5.

You asked if it is ok to boot back into your 1.4 ROM, but it will not be there because the step before you wiped your date which is the rom.

Duh...oh yeah. Can't believe that skipped my mind.
So what is the best way to get to recovery after the radio install.
I can't seem to remember if the phone auto rebooted after the radio install or if I have the option to reboot into recovery.

If it doesn't auto reboot then pull the battery. Hold the volume button down and power on the device which will boot into fastboot then boot into recovery. Remember to rename or delete the radio file after you have installed it if not you'll be prompted to install the radio everytime you're in fastboot and you wont be able to get into recovery.
Is it bad to flash the rom then do the radio after the rom is setup?

I was trying to avoid pulling the battery. As my case is a pain to take off, not to mention the battery door is a pain too. But it will need to be done if I wipe first.
I would like to know if I can flash the new radio over das bamf 1.4. That way I can boot into the OS and use a file explorer to delete/move the radio image, then if needed I could boot into fastboot with the update prompt. Butt if I am already booted into the OS then I could just boot directly to recovery bypassing the need to boot to fastboot, wipe and install das bamf 1.5 then.
Thanks.

That's how I did it also and worked fine.
Try restoring one of your system backup files, and start over.
Did you make sure to check the md5 of the radio and Rom.?
Flash the radio first, boot all the way into Android, remove the new radio from /sdcard, reboot to recovery wipe everything, flash new Rom. Reboot enjoy.

Rooted thunder bolt problems help please

Ok, so the info right now
Very first original pg05img.zip is loaded.
I got no super user and no cw.
Had Das bamf 1.6.3 and radio from OP
Switched to Das bamf 2.0-5 and ginger radio
Switched back to a back up of 1.6.3 and radio because of possible brick via hboot old radio first then into cw to restore back up.
Everything flashed good no hiccups except one problem, nothing will download. Too clarify that, all apps function properly, updates act normal, apps download from market normal, data signal strong, full 3g, no 4g in my area, browser runs fast, sync runs, no problems except that when I try to download a theme from xda download fails. Tried mirrors, fail. Tried my mp3 download app, download fail, Rom download from Rom manager, fail!
I assumed radio, reloaded radio in hboot, still fail.
While shuffling pg05img.zip around my SD card I placed the original zip for rooting process for manual root when the tbolt first got rooted. Thinking I was trying a radio.... Oops.
So now I'm running. Just fine. Except still no way to download threw phone. And as an added bonus I can not get into CW to flash a backup. ROM manager says I'm not rooted and have no super user. Hboot screen says s-off and when I go to recovery option there I get the triangle ! Sign. Yet Rom manger says there is an update for my CW available, but guess what happens when I try to download that....
Please give me ideas, if I left info out, I'm sorry just ask me.
Thanks a mill

If you followed the root process correctly and have SU permissions with the SU app then you are ok with that.
Next make sure you can access root through apps like rom manager and Tit backup.
Now if those run fine in stock then make a backup of that through rom manager or recovery.
Download all the roms and radios associated with the appropriate roms. Next flash the PG05IMG with bootloader and make sure the TB boots to stock, if you have no connection there, that is ok because it is supposed to work with specified ROM.
Now make sure you connect to a PC and mount the SD and remove PG05IMG. Put the rom on the / of the SD.
Run rom manager and install the rom from SD. Wipe all data, cache, and dalvik cahce. Once the rom has successfully installed, you should have connection and everything ok.
It's best to follow these steps from a working backup that way you can always revert and redo.
It's best to have a stock rom back up with all of your settings incase you need it for any purpose.
If you have any questions please contact me or a dev.
Assuming you still have root with s-off I would flash this from jcase's thread in HBOOT:
Custom upgrade PG05IMG_MR1_upgrade.zip (md5sum : 7960c7977c25b2c8759605be264843ea)
http://www.multiupload.com/NEANZBS5S4
That should fix your radio and whatever else is broke. Then just flash whatever ROM you like over it.

(I know you said u can't download, but I think you said u could download from market?)
Have you gone to the market and downloaded "super user" app?
Try that and go to rom manager and attempt to flash the recovery again
And try downloading astro file manager - in settings it should have an option to download anything through browser...
See that's the prob, no Su app or permissions. I followed the original manual process to the tee. That was months ago. Iv been rooted. Up until today there have been zero problems. Today I accidently reflashed the original zip then lost su. But hboot screen says I have s-off. Doesn't that mean I have SU

[Q] Switching to a GB rom

I bought my tbolt about 2 weeks ago off someone, and it is already rooted with Thundersense 1.45. I am completely new to Android and am wanting to switch to either a Gingersense rom or a bamf rom. I've been reading the forums daily on how to do it and I think I have the right idea.
My question is what is all needed rom? radio? kernel?
I already have a folder named PG05IMG.zip on my sd. Do i replace that or erase it or what? lol
im also using a Mac if that matters..
Appreciate whoever helps.
Ive downloaded the BAMF sense3 shooter final-RC2 and the MR2.5 radio.
whats next?

The BAMF team recommends the MR2 radio which I have reverted to from the MR2.5. I've used both on this ROM and no issues with either. You can flash in any order, but this is what I do.
-Verify you downloads by checking MD5 sums. There is a thread on this if you need to know more
-Make sure both files or on your SD card folder
-Go to CWR (recovery) wipe all data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats
-Install ROM zip from SD card
-When complete, select reboot and do a battery pull
-Replace battery, hold volume down + power until you boot into Hboot
-The radio will then install from there
-DO NOT do anything stupid like pull the battery while flashing the radio!
All done!
do you have a link to the MR2 radio?
the one in the "official thread" is suspended..
should i back up this current rom as well thru cwr or rom manager?
Here is the link For MR2 :

As far as Rom very stable it's the Gingeritis v1.0 Final :

also neither of those links worked, says the account has been suspended. ?

Before i post those link they was working maybe they will back live again later . I personal use the new Radio ver MR 2.5 with the Gingeritis v1.0 Final and it's work for me perfect withou loop boot... (but i test it now and also can't download it..)
I got the Rom file in my PC i can mail it to you , i also got the MR2 but not sure if it's real this file or not ..... check if you can upgrade direct to the MR2.5 and i can email you the Rom file and the MR 2.5 Radio file . i also use the Old Ver of the imoseyon_leanKernel_v3.0.1GBtest1 which work perfect with this rom (unless call recording app in my phone) and i can email you this file to.
As for Backup try to use the RomManager App. work for me Perfect .

Can someone confirm this Radio/ROM flashing process for me?

Ok, so I have heard that the MR2 or 2.5 radios work better with CM7 GPS. Is this the correct way to install both on my phone?
1.Download the CM7 ROM (RC1.1) and put it on the SD CARD
2.Download the MR2 or 2.5 and put it on the Sd Card (and rename the file to PG05IMG.zip)
3.Boot into recovery
4.Do a Nandroid Backup.
5.Perform a factory reset
6.Flash CM7, DO NOT REBOOT
7.Using ADB, reboot to bootloader
8.adb shell
9.reboot bootloader
10. Boot into hboot and flash the radio
Also, the dl links for the MR2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115714) or MR2.5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127436) are not working for me, I keep getting 404'd. Can anyone else link me?
And is there any way to flash the radio and ROM without having to remove all of my data?
Thanks for your help!
You can boot after installing cm7, you just won't have service until you install the radio. Other than that, you have it right.

Yeap those are the same steps i follow
So I do have to reformat my device for this to work, and there is no way around that?

I always wipe fully. Never had a problem unless it was a bad download, so be sure to check the MD5 on the files. Also from CWR, goto advanced mounts and storage, and wipe data, system and cache from there as well before you flash.
If it FUBARs, you have your nandroid to go back to.
Courtesy of my rooted Bolt
Is it possible for someone to either pm me a link to the MR2 or 2.5 radios? On the links I posted I keep getting 404'd
Nevermind, got it.
Figured it was worth mentioning that the steps aren't in the right order if you planned to manually boot to recovery since you will already have the radio on there and it will just keep trying to update. If not manually booting it's fine.
Instead of using adb to reboot, I just reboot from the recovery and then pull the battery. Then put the battery back in, hold down the volume(-) button and power button, and it will reboot to the bootloader. Then flash the radio. Either way works. The batter pull method is just easier to do, imo.

[Q] Das BAMF 3.0- Sorry Process system is not responding

I was running Das BAMF 3.0 and then switched to anothe rom. I restored das BAMF and now I keep getting the message Sorry! Process system is not rssponding. I cant get past this screen.
If I reboot into recovery the I get an update message it wants to update:

[2] Radio_V2
If I say yes to update then after the update I reboot and back to "Sorry Process...
If I say no then it reboots and same thing!

I had the same question when I started out. I'll make it easy on you.
Go into recovery, use the volume buttons to toggle up and down. Go to wipe data / factory reset. Select it and then confirm it. Then go to wipe cache partition and do the same. Then go to advanced and select wipe davlik. THAT IS HOW TO WIPE. This is recommended to do before flashing a new ROM.
Can't get past the update
I cant get past the update in recovery

That's easy to get past. Just load a PGIMG05.zip file onto the ROOT of your SD card. ROOT means without being in any folders. If you're on BAMF 3.0 then you're on Gingerbread. So find the RUU file for unsigned Gingerbread RUU and place it on the ROOT. Then do an Hboot. Which is Power down and volume up at the same time when the phone is off. Make sure you don't have any PGIMG05 files on the ROOT. You probably do because you rooted your phone. If you don't you could end up with S back on.
**You did flash the correct Gingerbread radio...right?
**I have no clue where the Gingerbread RUU is. If you find it, please post it. It will be a fairly large file. Probably around 300mb+
EDIT:
I'm sorry but the RUU for Gingerbread isn't out yet. Try Hbooting the MR1 then Hboot the MR2 Radio RUU which is 2.3.4 base.
Link to Jcase radio thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997724&highlight=RUU
I'm pretty sure, you'll need to flash the "PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.13.605.7_Radio_1.16.00.0402w_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_182727_signed.zip" on that page which should be the last link.
Take your SD Card out, put in a reader or another Android phone and delete the radio file from it.

I've had this problem too and I've wiped and reflashed from scratch to fix it.
But this happens to all my backups, making nandroid backups virtually useless to me now. Anybody know why this happens? I've never had a problem like this before and it started after trying to restore from the new CM7 back to bamf 2.1....
A common solution would be to backup the SD Card and reformat it in Clockwork or with SDFormatter.. NOT IN WINDOWS.
When the house gets dirty, you have to clean it.

I have tried to format/system and every other piece of advice i can find I still cant get any nandroids to restore... Any ideas?
I have search every possible thread regarding restoring a nandroid and have tried every possible fix... my only solution, which DID WORK, was to format/system, do a full wipe of all three, and then flash the original zip, I cant use any nandroids at all!!! if any one know why please tell me how to restore a nandroid for future use. thanks
format did not work for me either.
restores worked for me at when i came off of Synergy's ROM back to bamf3.0, but coming outta CM7 to bamf 3.0 busted it again...very strange.

I am using th3orys inj3ct rom and just wanted to see what Synergy was all about, when I wasn't impressed i tried to restore my nandroid (which i made right before i flashed synergy) and that is when all the trouble started... i tried everything that I know of and just had to reflash the original ROM and start from scratch, sux but at least my phone is back on.
I had this issue over the weekend. However I did do a restore prior to getting the error... I was texting my gf, and all of a sudden my screen wouldn't turn on... Pulled the battery and when i booted up I kept getting the error.
I had a PG05IMG.zip on my SD card so if I tried to boot to recovery from boot menu it wouldn't let me.
I took my SD card and plugged it into a PC using an adapter. Deleted the PG05IMG.zip and then booted to recovery. Restored my latest backup (3 days old) and everything worked.

What the hell.. this same thing happened to me last night - never had this happen before.
Happened after restoring a backup of Das Bamf 3.0 RC 3
Guess I have to wait for my wife to come home with her old droid so I can plug my sdcard in to her phone and get rid of the pgimg zip
