Ok, I know it comes preinstalled with a QuickOffice software, but this seems to only be a reader (correct me if I'm wrong).
I am wondering if it is possible to actually access the full QuickOffice application without purchasing it, since it is installed by default?
yea download documents to go from the market
The version of QuickOffice installed on the Nook is licensed by B&N as the reader only. It's an ad-free copy of the free version available in the Market. (I'm not sure if free QuickOffice in the Market has ads, actually)
Documents to Go and QuickOffice are the main office productivity suites for Android from what I could tell. Both required the paid version to edit Office documents. I have Documents to Go. Word and Excel support are quite good. PPT is not quite up to snuff. Unfortunately, trials are only 15 minutes now, but if you load some files onto your card that you want to test, it's just barely enough to scroll through quickly and try a couple features.
Hi,
This might be a dumb question, but here she goes.
The rooted Color Nook is my first android device, so I don't know much about how the system works. I'm using the the CN 1.1 -->> GMPower autonooter version, which I believe means that I have Android 2.2 (aka Froyo), but I'm not even sure about that. I'm using LauncherPro as a launcher/home page.
I've got quite a few free apps installed, which all seem to be working swimmingly. I've only purchased one app, which was Quickoffice. It seems to work OK, except that I can't get access to the bottom Quickoffice menus. If I tap the NC menu icon in the permanent black bar, I'll see a thin colored line appear just above it (I think that that is the Quickoffice menus trying to show themselves), but I can't actually see any Quickoffice menu selections.
I looked in the Quickoffice app description, and I mentions that it is for phones. If I'm not mistaken, the rooting that we do is taken from a phone environment originally. So I think (and I could be off base) that the problem is that the Quickoffice that I bought is meant for phones, instead of a tablet. I read in a couple of places that Quickoffice HD (which is for tablets??) works on the NC, but I can't find anything other than the normal Quickoffice in the Google market on my NC. It's either that, or I do have the right Quickoffice, but I just can't figure out how to get to those menus.
So, my question is:
Is there a difference between the Quickoffice and Quickoffice HD/Tablet?
If I have Quickoffice for phones, is there a way I can make it work for my NC (since I've already paid)?
If not, where can you get Quickoffice HD, since it's not in the market?
I apologize if that was impossible to follow.
Thanks.

Can't answer most of your questions but you can find QO HD by searching google for QuickOffice HD notionink for nook color. It's actually in XDA forums somewhere.
So, my question is:

If I have Quickoffice for phones, is there a way I can make it work for my NC (since I've already paid)? Once synced properly to Market you can downloan any app previously paid for to any device with your Google Account.
If not, where can you get Quickoffice HD, since it's not in the market? Search xda and web - its out there already.
Thanks
Good luck m8.
QuickOffice Pro
I'm running Quickoffice Pro on the honeycomb ... I have the HC running from an SD card per deeper-blue v4. I bought directly from quickoffice and then opened the email they sent me to load it. I can see and use the menu at the bottom of the screen in both landscape and portrait mode.
google quickoffice for link... I can't post links yet..
Could this be what you are thinking about?

I checked out the previous threads on Overdrive here, and the latest one seemed to still be about the clunky interface Overdrive used to make you go through to get your library epubs.
No more! Found the Overdrive app in Google Market works fantastically on CM7 Nook Color --- basically it's a one-stop shop to borrow library books and even more convenient now than it is to borrow for the Kindle app.
Aside from being a general epub reader, it allows you to read DRMed (your Adobe ID is required) epubs from your local elibrary. It asked for my library location, then my library ID (library card #), and from there I was able (still within Overdrive app) to peruse the selection of available ebooks as well as put ones on hold that weren't available.
After selecting a number of titles, I put them in the Bookbag, then checked out. I was then able to download each title by clicking on a download button within Overdrive, and they appeared within my app library list.
Better yet, MP3 audiobooks from the library system also work flawlessly within this app!
Really, really happy with this app --- CM7 Nook Color really gives the best of all worlds for ereading: Ability to purchase from B&N and Amazon (and third-party non-DRMd publishers), ability to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from local library with ease for multiple formats (availabilities differ, so this is a huge perk).
Yeah, I was looking at this over the last couple of days too. Do you know if I can open the epubs in the nook app rather than Overdrive (it's still my preferred reader for e-books)? I tried just copying the epub over to the Adobe Digital Editions folder, which got the nook app to recognize it, but it hits an error opening it.
This is the first I have heard of such an app. Sounds interesting, so checking it out as soon as I finish typing this post
Market link for those curious:

Edit: Welp. As I feared, my smaller city's library isn't on the list, so I don't get anything out of this yet.

I'm not sure you can, I don't use the Nook app for reading anymore since they had that *long* period with the bug where the menus were massively slow to respond, if at all.
According to Overdrive's site, the native nook color app is compatible with almost all the formats Overdrive provides, but no mention is made of the generic nook app for android:

Thanks for the heads up on Overdrive. Just downloaded and it's working great (MIUI 1.9.23)
Another +1 for Overdrive. My library has a great selection of books, both epub and mp3. And I really don't mind reading books in the Overdrive app.

Which browser are you using? Try poking around in the menu settings for "user agent" - I usually have mine set to desktop. This tells websites that you're a desktop user and not a mobile user.
i tried the default stock browser , with Linux Desktop , Mac desktop and IE6 user agent
it still said that it was a mobile site and i cant download. I am able to see the desktop version on other sites.
Overdrive available for Nook Tablet?
Hello,
I am new here. I'm considering purchasing the Nook Tablet for my 13 year old. Our school tech director said the biggest drawback is that it does not have the Overdrive App, which would allow us to download library books directly to the Nook Tablet. She said we would have to download to a computer and then download to the Nook Tablet.
I see on this thread that it appears that someone has been able to use the Overdrive App on their Nook Color. Am I understanding that correctly? Do you know if it is possible to get Overdrive on the Nook Tablet? I talked to the Nook guy at B&N yesterday and he said the Overdrive App is still not available for the Nook.
Any insight is appreciated! I like the Nook Tablet better than the Kindle Fire, but I'm concerned about the ease of downloading.
Thank you in advance,
Susan
Hi Susan,
The Overdrive app -- which yes, lets you download library DRM'ed epubs directly to your Nook Color -- is available in Google Market, not B&N store. The people in this thread are using it either on a rooted (like a jailbroken iphone, allows you to install 3rd-party apps) Nook Color or are using an entirely different OS (CM7) on the Nook Color than what it originally came with.
The unrooted, what we call "stock" (OS) Nook Color won't be able to use the Overdrive app even if you sideload it because the OS won't allow you to install 3rd-party applications.
This area of XDA (Nook Color forums) has a lot of information on how to root your Nook Color, or otherwise --- so you don't invalidate your warranty --- run CM7 on an SD card in your Nook Color. The second option is the best for beginners who want to see what can be done with their Nook Colors, as you retain an untouched stock OS in the Nook Color, but can run a different OS that allows you to use Google Market and other 3rd-party app sources from SD card.
I hope this helps.
Edit: I forgot to mention about the Nook Tablet, I believe the ability to root it has been found but because B&N has made it more difficult to modify (it has a locked bootloader, which prevents you from installing custom ROMs) many people who are using rooted Nook Colors haven't switched over. You'd be in the same boat regarding Overdrive app as with an unrooted Nook Color (i.e. unable to install and use it).
Thank you
Hi,
Thank you for your detailed reply. This helps me understand. Looks like I'll have to wait for the Overdrive App if I go with the Nook Tablet. I don't understand why B&N would delay acquisition of this app, as it seems to be the only thing missing that would tilt me towards buying the Kindle Fire over the Nook Tablet.
I appreciate your help,
Susan

Okay; I'm able to view and download using the stock browser set to Android and Opera Mobile set to either tablet or desktop. Setting the stock browser to iPad gives me an error once I get to the download screen. So try Android as the user agent, and if that doesn't work, I do highly recommend Opera Mobile as a great tablet browser (converted me from Dolphin HD).
IRT; Susan, I completely agree that OverDrive should appear in the Nook Market. Looks like angomy did a good job of explaining the situation, if you have any other questions feel free to come back!
If you run cm7 you can download overdrive app from market. I download books from my local library all thr time. Works great!

FYI, for those that want the overdrive app and find their home library isn't on the list....you CAN contact a library on the list and do a long distance membership. I know for a fact that the Philadelphia Library will allow you a membership from out of state. http://libwww.freelibrary.org/register/getcard1.cfm
Do a search, I thought the New York Library did that as well....
Yoke
So I've gathered that for some reason the B&N Bookstore APK won't run on custom ROMS like CM 9/10. I haven't been able to find through searching in this forum why this is the case. Is anyone aware of why the app won't run? Is it an internal check for a model string or something like that?
I'm running the latest CM10 Alpha and it's really killing me not having wired on the nook...that was one of the big selling points of it for me - digital access to my WIRED subscription. If I can somehow help get development started on patching that app, I'd like to.
I am running the Alien Fire ROM and the B&N Nook app works. I have two magazine subscriptions and they work just fine.

Are you referring to the Nook app that's available through Google Play? There are several magazine apps that will only work through the B&N Nook app that's part of the stock ROM. WIRED is one of these subscriptions and will only work from that particular APK.
Time and People won't work in the Play Store version either. You can see what will and what won't on the decription of the specific magazine on the B&N website.
Bump. Still looking for a way to access my WIRED subscription from my non stock rom.
Just a quick questions for those who purchased non-pro Mate 10, L29 version: how much bloatware is there on the phone, how many unnecessary apps, and can it be all permanently uninstalled?
Also, are there doubled system apps (e.g. Chrome browser and some sort of Huawei's browser, or two email apps) that can't be uninstalled?
I'm thinking of buying it, and it would be my first Huawei phone so I don't know much about their policy on bloatware.
If it's not too much to ask, can somebody take a screenshot or make a list of all pre-installed apps that come with rhe phone?
Much appreciated!
No bloatware and no doubled apps for me. Bought in Singapore. Unlocked, but from Singtel Promo.

If it's anything like the Mate 9, then there isn't too much bloatware and very few doubled apps.
I believe the only doubled apps on the Mate 9 are the keyboard, photo app, and email. Gboard/SwiftKey, Huawei's Gallery/Google Photos, and Email/Gmail.
Almost all the bloat (Amazon, Twitter, etc) can be removed easily.
I purchased the Mate 10 from eGlobal and found no bloatware at all
bought in singapore, singtel promo too, no bloatware, no external launchers however phone is locked
bought from china and had at least 15 apps :/
Bought from Malaysia. No bloatware. However, second EMUI update added Amazon Video app which I immediately uninstalled. First EMUI update added the Microsoft translator app which I kept of course.
Just got my L29 rebranded L00 and it did have around six or so bloatware apps. All could be removed. Only double apps are Gallery/Google Photos, Music/Google Music, and Email/Gmail.
Does anybody have the original EU supercharge wall plug? Can somebody write me the model? Because the one i plan on buying comes with the flat pinned charger and an adapter so I'll order a EU charger afterwards, but there's a lot of similar items on ebay
I came from Android One, Nexus, etc, so I have different feeling. The phone comes pre-installed with Huawei's version of calculator, calendar, music player, activity tracker, email client, clock, weather app, etc, and they are installed on the system partition, so can't be removed. I prefer the google implementation over the huawei implementation, so I ended up with two copies of each. This really annoys me.
