Internal Audio not working (hardware) - 7 Mozart General

Hey guys, I have a hardware issue but first the background story
So my phone fell on concrete and the screen broke. I bought a digitizer and replaced it myself. After a month or so, I broke it again. I replaced it, but the unit I got was faulty, and I only got the replacement today.
I opened the phone again and replaced the digitizer, and it's working great!
however in the process I must have done something wrong since my audio/sound doesn't work anymore.
1)Loud speaker works just fine and the microphone works since I am able to talk to people and they hear me
2) When I plug in my earset, the sound works just fine on the earphone. The microphone switches over the earset's microphone and I can hear/talk just fine.
The only problem that I have is I can't hear anything if i put phone next to my ear :/ I opened again looked around, but didn't find anything obvious that might explain wha went wrong. Would anyone know where to look/what to test?
Cheers

anyone any idea please? D:

I haven't opened up my Mozart just yet but from my experience with HTC phones I would suggest checking the contacts of the speaker. They tend to have little springs on the speaker that come in contact with the mainboard and this is how the signal is transmitted. If these contacts are damaged then you will not hear anything.
With all the drops you may have damaged the speaker itself but I'm not sure of a way you could test that.

The problem i had was that I used my sony ericsson X8 headset and the sound came out funny, the thing that was cuasing it was the microphone. Try stock headset to see if it works. If it doesnt then you might want to get someone to check it or fix it. Up to you.

No Sound From HTC Hero

I recently noticed that the ring tone on my phone keeps cutting out. It has now completely died such that there is now no sound coming from the phone speakers at all. The phone does not ring, there is no music coming from the speakers and no notification tone. The only way i know the phone is ringing is from the vibration. If I plug a earphone into the earphone socket there is music coming from the earphones.
I initially thought it was an issue with the earphone socket thinking an earphone was still stuck in it but i never use the phone for music so never use it with earphones and there is no earphone symbol on the phone.
I have backed it up and done a hard reset to no avail (using Rom 3.73.405.5) and confirmed that the ring tone and music volumes are on full.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or can I sadly assume the phone is dead.
Regards y'all

It seems like your internal speaker/ringer inside the phone may be damaged and needs to be replaced. Either a warranty job or replace it yourself if you know what you are doing.
I was afraid of that. The phone is out of warranty but i wouldn't mind attempting a repair. Would you know if there are any manuals or guidelines available?

Not that I know of but this vid might help. They're quite straight forward to disassemble, more so than most HTC's out there!! I'm not sure where you might get a new speaker but maybe E-bay as part of a housing or back chasis?
Good Luck.
Strangely enough, I just had the exact same thing happen to me today. My rear speaker just died, so that I don't hear the phone ring or the notifications. There's no music or keypad sounds, and speakerphone doesn't work. The earpiece works just fine, and if I use headphones I can hear everything, but the speaker in the back of the phone seems to have completely died.
Some questions, if anybody's able to answer them:
I'm using a Telus Hero on AT&T here in the US. Can I still take advantage of the warranty? If so, is this even covered by the warranty? If not, does anybody know of a good place to buy a replacement part so I can replace it myself? Is the part for the CMDA (Sprint) Hero the same speaker?
As for the disassembly of it, I found this thread on HTCPedia that provided a download of HTC's service manual for the Hero.
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1706
Update: Thanks to the power of Google search, I've answered one of my questions. I found this website that sells replacement parts for a whole lot of different phones, including the Hero.
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/HTC-HERO-s/5502.htm
I can't vouch for the website at all, I just found it on Google, but at least it might save somebody else the trouble of searching for it.
Exactly the same thing happened to me too..... one day the speaker started crackling, soon after no sound was coming from the external speaker :-(
I opened up the Hero, and there didn't seem to be much dust, an everything looked ok (nothing burnt out or broken)
bjg222, thanks for the links, I was so close to ordering from that website, when I found a Hero on eBay being sold for parts. I missed out on the middle section (with the speaker), so was going to go back and order from global direct parts
Then, bored one day, I thought I'd check out YouTube, even though I had no sound. A few seconds into the first video, the speaker started crackling to life! The video ended with broken sound, so I loaded up another vid, and inexplicably the speaker started working fine!!!
I have no idea how this happened, or what was wrong with it for 3 weeks, but now it is working again, and has been for over a week now.
Just thought I'd let you guys know..... there is hope!
same thing has happened to me.. no sound yet headphones and earpiece work just fine.
the site mentioned above for parts doesnt seem to have a cdma hero speaker.. just the gsm version which doesnt look the same. the hero speaker actually resembles the evo speaker from what i can tell. anyone know for sure?

Speaker problem

hi all, sorry if wrong place. but here goes.
just wondered is there anyway to replace to internal speaker, one of them have blown n making a crappy crackling noise

Alex
Yes you can replace them by your self but then you will lose your warranty, there are replacment speakers at ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/archos-101-In...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item3f0830e4a3
cool, ive ordered them
any idea how to change them? lol
and for now any way to disable the speaker from playing anything?

The blown speaker was really bugging me last night, so I gave the back of the unit a sharp tap over that speaker. After a few crackles, that speaker just stopped working. Not sure if that means its just a loose connection, but at least the (mono) sound is clear for now....
I have the same problem:
Sometimes the left speakers seams to not handle a specific sound.
I want to change my speakers, too.
But is it possible to insert better speakers?
I want a better quality...
Had the same problem but i fixed mine by myself, had a broken cellphone (china made phone) it had the same size as the archos i just remved the busted ones tape the wires and put it all back together now it works fine

[Q] Earpiece speaker broken after glass replacement

So, I've replaced the phone's glass/digitizer, and after reassembly, everything but the earpiece speaker is functioning. Upon closer examination it looks like this piece:
i42.tinypic(dotcom)/2lntr49.jpg
has fallen off. It's ridiculously tiny:
i44.tinypic(dotcom)/2ykkhad.jpg
Is this piece even sure to be the reason the earpiece won't work? If so, is there any way it can be reattached, or am I totally screwed?
Did you ever find a solution to this?
I am also wondering if you figured this out.
I have an Atrix that worked fine for months but one day the speaker stopped working. We had it sent it for warranty repair and it came back only to work once. It appeared to be working but the speaker 'popped' and stopped working as soon as we turned up the volume.
I then bought a replacement speaker ribbon cable myself and after putting it in, the exact same thing happened again: On first impression the new speaker worked, but then we turned up the volume and *pop*, the speaker is broken.
Upon looking at the speaker that I pulled out during my own replacement, there is a resistor missing like in your pictures. However, it's a different one of the six. I am willing to bet that the speaker in the phone now is also missing a resistor since the pop.

Has your internal speaker stopped working ? check the headphone jack...

My internal speaker & mic stopped working on my 6 week old Lumia 800- bluetooth & speaker phone was fine.. I soft & hard reset it but no joy.
took it to the Nokia service center that said they'd seen this before & they couldn't fix. It would have to be sent off for 10days or so.. Not impressed by this I told him to go jump...
On the way home I had an idea that this could be related to the headphone jack.. so re-plugged & unplugged headphones - and it was fixed !
clearly with certain 3.5mm plugs the jack doesn't always recognise that the plug is taken out & re-enable the internal speaker..
perhaps it was just mine (like it was new & a bit stiff ) or something to watch out for generally.
You should tell the Nokia shop guy to help anyone else with that problem
It's just yet another bug in the firmware. Sometimes if you unplug your headphones very slow or very fast it doesn't recognize it...
just like the iphone
That was the same issue with iphones for awhile. I used to have to "fix" that daily when I worked for at&t.
I think we should post all of these small, fixable issues and codes into one single thread titled "known problems and easy fixes" because nokia/ms websites blow at providing solutions. I had to use them multiple times this week because of a defective phone but they give you the way to do something if your phone was functional, not a way to fix something not working properly. It's a ****ing joke.

good idea - he said "nokia never tells you that sort of thing"
BTW it isn't firmware related.. I did a hard reset -so any state would have been wiped. The switch is part of the jack plug.

Hard reset doesn't affect your FW. I still think it is a bug in the drivers.
I picked up a secondhand lumia 800 yesterday everything was fine until I stuck my headphones in and before coming across this thread all I done to remedy the issue was reinsert my headphones 2/3 times and it sorted itself out I think there maybe a dodgy headphone switch in these phones although I have used other headphones since that and it hasn't repeated itself.

[Q] External speaker problem...motherboard issue?

Has anyone had issues with the external speaker on the i9100?...
Mine will sometimes work for a few seconds then cut out...sometimes it won't even do that, just emitting a "click", like when you unplug a connection...ringtones never work (ever)...(and no, it's not on "silent")
The headphone jack works fine (and has been replaced already), and I've tried the "plug in plug out" solution. The call speaker (against the ear when on a call) works fine, and the Mic works fine....
I'm running cm10 and the latest siyah kernel, but this was happening when I was on stock and not rooted....
I replaced the speaker, and it worked perfectly for a day or so, then....not so much
Everything else is smooth as, and it's a great phone....would just be nice to be able to hear it ring is all...
(posted in AU s2 thread to no avail....)

did you recheck your speaker? maybe there was a loose wire or something.. there is a possibility that it may be a motherboard problem but i highly doubt it

Replace the USB flex cable board. I had the same exact problem. It instantly fix it but swapping that board my bring signal problems. Then refer to this thread.

all good now! i replaced the usb flex. when comparing the two boards, the new one has a slight curve in it that seems to bring the contacts closer to the speaker ...don't know if it's by design, but it works....my phone rang for the first time in ages this morning, and it scared the crap out of me
