Hi everyone, and hails to all devs. I'm a long time lurker, first post here. Should have posted in the development thread, but it won't let me because I never posted before :-( ... so hopefully roebeet looks at this section as well...
Also, some background about myself, I'm an android phone user, being using an rooted MB300 phone for a year now. But I am a new gtablet user, and jumped onto this bandwagon with the rest of the wooters. I've flashed the newest TnT lite 4.4 (3/30/2011) onto my gtablet, the installation is smooth, booted up without a problem, and just to be safe, I also did a data wipe (well, actually a factory reset since I didn't use CWM to flash the system). The system runs fine, everything works great, except two things.
1. It won't let me switch input method. I've downloaded and installed swiftkey and iflytek to the gtablet, and in settings, it won't let me check the enable checkbox, after pressing on the checkbox for about 100 times, it finally give me a FC...
2. The speaker constantly playing a low pitch drumming sound for no reason, the sound comes randomly, even during the system idle, with no apps running (i force stopped all running apps in application management). So I figure it is not a problem associated with a perticular app.
is anyone else experiencing the same problems, or is it just me? If it is just me, I'll probabiliy reflash the rom, and hopefully have better luck at it.
Thanks a lot.
To get the keyboard working you'll need to move the apk to data/app then reboot and switch keyboards like normal, I used root explorer. As for the sound issue, I'm not having anything like that on my end so not sure.
Yeah, the keyboard addon issue is one that stock has had since Day One, so TNT Lite is also affected. It's one of many reasons why VEGAn is such a popular ROM, as it doesn't have this problem. VEGAn also supports USB mice, as I recall, whereas TNT (Lite) does not. I keep hoping that the vendor will fix this problem, one of these days.
That sound might be a hardware problem, however. I would recommend getting back to a clean stock baseline like 3588, and test it that way for a day or so. TNT Lite 4.4.0 is using a UAT 3991 system image that should work fine, but perhaps there's something buggy in there. I haven't had the issue, at least not yet.
thanks a bunch for the replies, I've actually played with the stock rom for a day before flashing, it doesn't seem to have to sound problem, and I've flashed to calkulin's rom, it doesn't have to sound problem as well, maybe if i reflash tnt lite, the problem would go away. As for the input method, after encounter the same thing with calkulin's rom, I figured it would be a limitation with orginal tnt system... thanks a lot anyways, I'll try out the different roms on the board, have nothing better to do at friday night anyways...
That keyboard thing
I went nuts wondering why I couldn't change keyboards even when I had three different ones in the input method showing. Here is something someone else posted that seems to work everywhere. I just tested it on tnt lite 4.40 and it works there too. Go to some app that wants keyboard input. I used QuickOffice - QuickWord. Touch the area that will call up a keyboard for input but do a long press. A menu will pop up and one of the choices will be input method. When you choose it another menu will pop up with all the keyboards you have installed. Whichever one you select will become your new default keyboard. To change to another just repeat this procedure. Hope this helps.
enigma0456,
I have the same issue as the original poster and what you and many others describe does NOT work for new keyboards installed via standard methods. Before new keyboards can be exposed to that selection list they need to be enabled and the TNT settings UI doesn't allow for this. :-(
I put together a quick tutorial to push whatever keyboard apk you want to the system.

That's very cool, good to know.
Different issues...
I do not have any problems with the speakers.
Have not tried a different keyboard.
I am seeing problems coming out of sleep. I get FC on gapps and have noticed lag as well.
Problems with tnt lite 4.40
Hello everyone, i'm new to the rooting and flashing thing. I just bought the viewsonic g-tab and right off the bat noticed that I hate the orginal software. I rooted it with Z4 and flashed TNT lite 4.40. I am having f/c all the time and it freezes just about the same. I have tried to watch movies on it but am unable to hear sound.
Ist it the apps or possably the flash? Again I'm new to this stuff if anybody could help.
Also what is the difference when you root with Z4 than with anyother? Can I flash other roms like vegan if I have already flashed TNT?

Yep. Just make sure you wipe data and cash. Were you getting the process.acore fc? If so that is a known and easily fixable solution. Did you ever use cwm to fix permissions? That really hrlps with fcs
Im not sure what process.acore or cwm.....Im really green at this, first time doing it

You don't need cwm, at least not yet. Backup the data you care about, then do a data wipe via Settings -- Security -- Factory Restore (and let it reboot).

I am new to all this too..but i will take a shot....
Do you know what version you had before you went to TNT Lite?
You could try a factory reset (settings->security) to see if it fixes your problems.
Unless you were on the most recent update of the stock ROM version (build 4349) and you dont care about it in the near future, the usual way to flash a new ROM was using ClockworkMod (cwm)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
However with the new update (4349) things are in a flux right now, cwm is not the best thing to use if you are on an older stock rom, and if you want to install 4349 at some point. Read through the stickies and familiarize yourself with everything that is going on.
youtube videos by ehunyadi are also a good source of information.

Other than the Netflix capability, are there other functional differences between the two ROMs? I've been running Vegan-Tab since receiving my GTablet but being a tinkerer (though, not too adventurous), I was thinking about flashing a new ROM.
Thanks for your thoughts.
I'd like to add to your question if I could, as I've been feeling the same. If I opt for Cyanogen, if I am currently running Vegan 5.1.1, can I use the 'recovery method' to load it on from Vegan (would want the nightlies), or just use CWM? Basically, just wondering if I need to resort back to stock or anything.
You can load it from cwm just like any 1.1 rom.
I really like CM7. Its been really stable for me. Its worth a flash in my opinion.
CM7 runs Android 2.3.3 (soon to be 2.3.4) and Vegan runs Android 2.2. That in a big difference. The file structure for CM7 is a little funky at times also. I prefer Vegan 5.1.1 over CM7 but that's just my opinion. Both firmwares are made by very talented developers.
I just answered to another post in the general section about this very thing...
I have two gTabs (one running VEGAn 5.1.1 and one running CynogenMod 7.0.3). The VEGAn 5.1.1 gTab takes about 30 to 45 seconds to boot up when powered on, the CynogenMod 7.0.3 takes about 2 minutes to boot up when powered on.
VEGAn 5.1.1 is really fast. That and if you install and use the VTL Launcher it makes the gTAB a pretty nice experience. It doesn't let me watch movies via the Netflix app but I can watch any of my ripped dvd movie files (xvid-avi) without any issues with the stock video player.
CyanogenMod 7.0.3 is also fast (once it finally boots up) and it has location tracking via wi-fi that is really accurate and also let's you install and run and stream movies via the Netflix app if you have a Netflix account without problems (if you install the Netflix apk with the device check disabled). But I have yet to play a single movie file from one of my ripped dvds on it even using RockPlayer or Mobo Player. Everytime I try and open one of the xvid-avi movies the app starts like its going to play the movie but then within a second it shuts down without any errors or messages.
So, they both have use to me today but if somebody can get Netflix to stream movies on VEGAn I will probably leave CyanogenMod.
Anyway, you should be able to flash either roms via ClockworkMod version .08 (bekit) on your gTab without issues since that is what I've been doing since I've bought these gTabs back in November of last year. Just remember to clear data/cache/davik cache for best results.
Good luck.
Well, there's Vegan Ginger as well. That's 2.3.3, and it was based on CM7. It has lots of nice little modifications (such as the void.fstab change already incorporated so the internal memory stays as /sdcard instead of /emmc) already incorporated, but there hasn't been a lot of news from GoJimi since RC1 was released. CM7 has advanced, including resolving most issues on the Gtab.
Also, since it's being updated constantly (via the nightlies), I get the sense that all of the issues will be straightened out, and I have some sense of what to expect in each update. It's for that reason more than anything that I switched to CM7 a while back. I'm running the most recent nightly.
The big issues with CM7 are currently two-fold:
1. Void.fstab mounts the internal memory as /emmc, which is what Google wants. However, applications want to use /sdcard, so you'll want to flash the void.fstab fix that you can find by searching on these forums.
2. Boot times. I'm not sure what the issue is, but after you install quite a few apps, especially if you install them via a non-Market source, the boot time increases. It takes about 75 seconds for my tablet to boot; my phone boots in about 20. Once it's booted, though, it works well, so typically I only reboot it once a week or so.
Hi,
I've purchased one of these tablets - i've tried searching for info on how to root, etc and possibly put another rom on so i can access all my apps that previously installed through marketplace but unlike normal rooting of an android phone the procedure for tablets seems to be all over the place
or would it be easier to just put my mobile sim into an android phone - redownload all the apps and then back them up and restore them on a tablet
thanks
Slatedroid.com have section on their forum for the Hannspree, with details on rooting, google market and a custom rom to get rid of Tap n Tap UI.
My 2 cents:
Follow the rooting and gapps guide on slatedroid at
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/20232-guide-hannspad-rooting/
Install market and take it from there. You can also side-load apps from another phone, but that doesnt work quite as well for some (albeit few) apps.
I changed the launcher from the TnT (yuk) to VTL Launcher and it has made a WORLD of difference.
Also, look in the other G Tablet forums for stuff coming over from the Notion Ink camp (Adam).
For the price the Hannspads are going for, they're a steal....

thanks for the replies, but i'm looking at returning (unless someone can say if rooting, etc will resolve laggyness, etc) this product due to the number of issues i've experienced with it in less than 48 hours
I've had to reset it 20 times because of it freezing and being unresponsive - even at power on it was hanging at one time for 15 mins on the tap'n'tap logo - had to reset the go into recovery to sort it out - it also kept freezing when finally got to the lockscreen so couldn't actually unlock the device - in the basic menus it kept freezing and the same when running apps - overall very disappointed especially as my lg optimus 2x performed better.

Hi,
So I just recently got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I am familiar with Android and I know what I'm doing (or so I think lol) but some things just aren't working and I don't know if it's me or software limitation. Regardless I'm hoping someone can shedd some light on these...
1. The market is lacking a LOT of applications that are available on phones. Is that right? I thought it would just scale for the most part....I can't even find the official Facebook app on the market. Am I looking in the wrong place or something? Hulu? Netflix??
1a. Some applications that I sideload (mainly widgets) like typoclock or something of that sort....install, but when I go to add the widget it is not there, as if never installed. Even when I try to reinstall it, it says that it will replace the old one so i know for a fact that it installs, but the widgets aren't available, and they arent listed in the installed apps drawer either.
2. It seems kind of sluggish...and I really haven't installed much, even from a cold boot...it's kinda laggy, not as quick as I have seen on some review videos. Quadrant scores around 1400-1500. I Rooted it, installed the latest SunBurst ROM and overclocked to 1.4Ghz and it's still laggy often despite nearing 3000 on quadrant now.
3. So I couldn't get any Netflix apk to work on it stock, so once I rooted, installed Sunburst ROM it came installed with a Netflix app, but I don't think it's official since the icon is orange and has a little android on it. Needless to say THAT app doesn't work and CAN'T be installed (I figure it's cooked onto the ROM) regardless I found a Netflix apk that install and replaces it, and works...but after one day it reverts back to the old netflix and doesn't work. So pretty much everytime I want to use Netflix I have to reinstall and overwrite with the new Netflix apk I found...it's annoying. (and the search function doesn't work on that Netflix either)
I know it's a lot to rant about and a lot of issues, and I love the tab and honeycomb, but I can't believe these issues still persist. I hope someone can help me with one/all of these and I will be forever grateful.
Thanks, hope someone can help...
1a. Try a restart after you install a widget. It seems that if the widget is not made for HC, it doesn't appear before you restart.
i tried rebooting but that didn't help any unfortunately...
There's a netflix 1.3 APK somewhere that sideloads perfectly. I haven't tried it with Touchwiz yet - I haven't even touched Touchwiz.
Try stock ROM first. Your ROM might have broken something. I know Bonsai completely broke USB storage support as an example, and Starburst claims to be the "most complete and fastest Touchwiz experience" which means it's going to have missing and broken things. Any ROM dev making claims like that is compensating for something. The "hacked-icon" Netflix app is an obvious sign they went a LITTLE too far.
Netflix sideload works perfectly on my Tab. Unrooted. TouchWiz. Stock.
i tried netflix fix on starburst rom, it did work but reverted back to fcs after a reboot. i switched to bonsai 3, netflix seems to be working fine even after a reboot.
2. It seems kind of sluggish...
The default launcher is a bit sluggish, it is a honeycomb issue. For me I have seen after a "reboot", the tab does take a couple of minutes to "settle", then it is smooth for me, but if you have lot of widgets on your homescreens it will be sluggish, my experience in any case.
thanks to all you guys for all the replies.
As far as the Netflix, I know I do have the correct apk I think the issue is that it isn't playing nice with the one that is baked into the rom. I guess I will have to install another rom.
However I haven't heard anything on the apps, is that right? There's no Facebook? Anyoneelse having issues with Widgets not appearing?
For Facebook search for an app in the market called 'Friend Me'
Looks great and works great =)
for getting rid of sluggishness try this launcher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188701

@js931,I'll give that launcher a try and see how it goes.
I understand and feel for you on your problems. My 3rd (and final) Galaxy Tab is on the way to me from Amazon.com. I also have an Asus Transformer on the way as well and the device that gives me the least amount of problems is the device I plan to keep. I want to like the Tab but I don't have high hopes since I'm about to be on my 3rd device. The 2nd one worked perfectly after Touchwiz for a while - even fixed issues I was having such as the typing lag - but the issues I had with the first one (screen and/or Wifi doesn't respond after bringing the device out of sleep) resurfaced a few days ago. The 2nd Tab also had something loose on the inside as it produces a loud rattling noise whenever it vibrates. While that is easily cured by turning off the vibration, I paid $600 for this device and I expect it to be near-perfect. So any little issue I have with this 3rd Tab means it's going back for a refund and I'll keep the Transformer... assuming it behaves like it should, lol.
At any rate, good luck with your issues. The Tab is a beautiful device but seems to be problematic... at least that's my experience with it.
Hi all, first of all, I understand this is my first post and I'm already asking for help and I understand I may have posted this in the incorrect thread, however, today I purchased a the Arnova 10.1 for my fiancée, I had a look at the arctools I see people talking about on forums here and there but it just doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong, am I looking at the wrong forums or searching the wrong things for my tablet.
Basically I'm just hoping someone else has got the same tablet and knows what they're doing, if this is you, I just want to know if I can successfully get the market running and some secondary launcher (ADW, Launcher Pro etc) running without any hickups, also, is root possible? Can CM7 be successfully be installed on the 10.1 and any other cool stuff wouldn't go a miss...
Arctools works, atleast worked for me.
I am like a noob on this tablet. Got it like 2 days back. Turned on wifi, went into arctools, selected the version stock with root, then clicked download, and then it went about installing it. I remember having to leave it at some junk screen while it rebooted twice before showing me home screen on third boot up.
Then I realized one thing: the google apps that weren't installed were installed at this time, with the reason being now the tablet is rooted.
So maybe cos your tablet isn't rooted yet, that app is kinda useless. Some options didn't work for me either, but I am happy it installed a custom rooted rom and installed the base market app and other apps.
I am currently using GoLauncher.
Installed Tibu, and deleted/froze the apps I don't want like stock launcher, etc.
