Call quality. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all! I was wondering how your call quality is? Everything seems great on my end. The people on the other end however say I sound muffled, too bassy, too quiet, or like I am in a tunnel. Is this normal for these? They all said I sound clear, just quiet. They can especially tell as I am coming from a BB Torch as my main phone. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The first few days I had my Atrix, I had that problem but once I turned the noise canceling to high and got the 1.5.7 update, everything is crystal.
Play around with the settings to see if you can't figure something out.
The Skype app on the Atrix has known problems with the audio so don't use that for now...

I tried that and it didn't help much. This is really very disappointing, I had someone tell me today that it was so quiet that they actually had to concentrate on hearing me. I'm thinking I'll have to have it replaced or returned. I would think it wouldn't be a problem since it's Motorola. I hate the idea of returning or exchanging it because I do like it and I've got it all customized and loaded now.

It most likely is software but hey getting a new handset from them can't hurt.
I read on here that moto went above and beyond to fix someones phone with a audio tech approved handset!

I tried it with my Jawbone Icon and it works perfectly. By software do you mean something I may have put on, or Motorola's software? I guess if I do want help with this contacting Motorola direct would be best then? I really appreciate all of the input guys.
Edit: Also my other thought was that I could change it out for an HTC Inspire. Don't know as though I would like that as much though.

Find your local motorola service center and take it to them. They'll courier it back to you free of charge.
Before you do that wipe it and see if that helps.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

Your holding it wrong....or at least I was. I was getting the same complaints, and realized I was holding my finger over the Mic on the back of the phone. May fix your problem, just a thought.

As far as wiping it, that has been done and did not seem to help at all. Covering the mic on the back could possibly be an issue however. You are referring to the one by the fingerprint sensor correct? If necessary I may just keep my Jawbone around all the time. I will attempt to find my local Motorola service center in the meantime.

Hey, just wanted to update everyone. The update to 1.83 seems to have helped significantly. People say I sound much more clear. Thanks for the help!

Wtf? Other people can't hear me when I call...

I'm guessing it's a defective device but thought I would check here first. It's stock and refurbished, just got it yesterday. I tried rooting and flashing other ROM's and radios but nothing fixed it. And yes, I used the helpful guides provided in this forum (and others).

Edit: To clarify, when I make or receive a phone call, I can hear them but they can't hear me.

Sounds like how EVERY Motorola device I've ever owned ended up going. Never heard of that quirk on software so it's probably bum hardware.
Yeah that's what I thought. I also noticed an echo, like I could hear what I say after a short delay. It's going back today.

The echo is a network interface issue. It's happened to me on the last 5 devices I've had; Samsung flip phone of some sort, BlackBerry 8130, BlackBerry 9630, Incredible, Thunderbolt.

Audio Whirring Just Started

I've had my Rezound since November and now I'm starting to have issues with whining audio. Anybody else experience it sometime after buying the phone?

Have you tried different headphones?

Yep, happened to me, it came and went at first and then stayed there all the time. Took the phone to verizon and they replaced it.
That's the beats by dre working its magic. People that listen to hip hop don't hear the hissing and other noises because their eardrums are blown out from all the years of listening to crappy music. My phone does the same thing though. The whole beats thing is a real turn off from the HTC brand and I hope they do away with it.
It's a common problem as far as I can tell. Funny that I stumbled across this thread because the beats things was bothering me today. Can we please stop giving money to rappers and their overpriced bs products.

Same here. Got a replacement and the new phone does not have this problem.

Mine only does this when playing music in the car using the stereo Jack and charging at the same time. Alternator noise.
I've heard about the charging in cars causing problems. Supposedly if you try different chargers or just remove the charger it'll work just fine.
Seems like it only happens with the screen on for me. I can live with it a long as it does not get worse

It's gotten worse for me. I've tried different headphones and it only appears to be the "left" side. Even with the screen turned off it still has the same sound. I also tried turning all the radios off and it does not change. I'll downgrade back to stock Gingerbread (currently running one of the ICS leaks) and if the problem is still there then it's time to take it to VZW. At least it should be covered under warranty,
Happens to me too. But if I wiggle the cord it will go away. At least for now. No telling if that trick will continue to work in the future, but it works for me now.

I have this issue. I've contacted HTC twice already. The most recently last week. Same response, "we have an update coming soon, that will solve the issue" . For those of us running the latest radio/ICS know that their update isn't going to solve the problem. This issue is annoying me more and more lately, it's getting bad. I'm hesitant to return my phone for a warranty just cause I don't want a refurbished, I paid a lot of money for this phone... So, I have to deal with this? I haven't tried deleting beats with root explorer. Maybe I'll try that next.

Bluetooth sound quality

My phone calls in the car don't sound as well as they did on my Optimus G or even my Lumia 900. I'm running completely stock, is this just me or have others complained about it? I tried searching and couldn't find anything.

Sorry, I stand corrected. I just found another thread with the same issue. But there's no solution, so if you guys can still help me out I'd appreciate it.

Stick to the main thread bro as were alp in the same boat. Of anyone can help anyone, trust me the fix will be everywhere, lol!
Yes, this is issue about HFP - phone audio quality is all over. On top for A2DP, the distance range is super bad!!
For me the phone quality seem really bad, and I will looking to return it if my 2yr (lock) can be reverted. There is no phone I consider trading from my original Atrix 4G.

Very low in call volume

I have horrid hearing, but I could hear perfectly fine on the Nokia lumia I had before this phone..
If I'm around any background noise I can't hear anything.. has anyone else had this issue?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Omg yes!! I've tried everything to fix this. I've even gone to AT&T to get a replacement, which temporarily resolved the issue. I'm about to make another trip back, who knows might even get a free upgrade Depends on how lucky I am lol

Sadly I experience the same thing, I could've sworn I saw a tip from HTC talking about noise cancellation somewhere in the accessibility menu. Darn I can't find it at the moment.
Anyway what Solves the issue for me is using headphones/earphones, Since most of the time when I am somewhere noisy( busy street or so) I am listening to music so when a phone comes in i just continue using my earphones or it which is quite good.

Microphone issues?

I have consistent problems on speakerphone with people saying they can't hear me. I had a bear motion slim case on it but I'm not clear if that is creating any issues. Is there a hidden microphone anywhere that the case may be covering? Or do I need a warranty replacement?

It's weird, I've had certain people tell me this as well but others can hear me fine. Not sure what's going on, but I know that when I'm talking with someone who has trouble hearing me, if I put in my headphones it solves the problem. Maybe something to do with noise cancellation/echo reduction?
Do you have a case on or anything? I only have the issue on speakerphone.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
my girlfriend constantly nags about it when shes on speakerphone that i sound like im far away idk what it is
Bump. I tested with skype audio test last night with no issues. I can't figure out if there is really an issue

Stop trying to find issues where there isn't. The speaker on this device is horrible, so who would actually persistently talk using it
Sent from my SM-G900T using xda app-developers app
That makes zero sense. Especially since I'm referring to the microphone

I get the same complaint. Not sure why. My case doesn't cover the microphone from what I can tell
Sent from my SM-G900T using xda app-developers app
I've been messing around with this more and it seems like the bottom mic on my device is really directional in the sense that it only seems to pick up audible sound when you talk right into it. It's definitely barely picking up anything when the phone is held normally as if for a call. The speakerphone mic seems to work fine.
EDIT: I finally took it back to the store and swapped it out for a new one. It was definitely a hardware issue as my new one sounds much better.
Same issue here and I'm not using a case.
On speakerphone only, I get complaints every single time that people can't hear me to the point where I have to switch back to handheld.
Noise reduction currently off but it's the same either way. Gonna pop into Tmobile on the way home and see what they say.
Anyone else get a warranty replacement?

Go into voice recorder and be sure the microphone setting is set to 'normal'.

For those who have a problem with this, I've been dealing with this issue since day 1. It seems to be a T-mobile problem and NOT a problem with the phone itself.
The software is set up as half-duplex and not full-duplex as it should.
That means that if the person on the other end of the line is talking or making noise and you start talking, they're not going to be able to hear you. I've tried this with my phone and a replacement phone. Same thing happened. That means that you will continuously cut in and out.
I'm currently talking to T-mobile and they have a ticket open with me to work with developers on the issue. I have no idea what happened but, as someone who uses speakerphone all the time, it's a MAJOR pain.
If anyone has more experience with this sort of issue, I'd love to hear it.
Hi Guys,
I'm having a problem along the same lines. I moved to Tmo a month or so ago when the S5 came out (ported from Sprint). The first couple of days I had great coverage but intermittently when I talked to someone, they'd tell me it sounded like I was in a tin can. At times it was hollow or echo-y. It kind of stopped, but then started up again. To me, everything sounds perfect. Now, randomly when I talk to someone, sometimes they can hear me without any problem, and sometimes they can barely understand me because of so much feedback coming through (even though I can hear them perfectly).
Tmo gave me a new sim card to use and said to wipe my cache to make sure everything was good. I did that and it worked great for about a day. Now, it's random again. I call land line and it sounds like I'm in a tin can and when they talk it's lots of feedback. I call friend on att and they have loads of feedback when they talk but perfectly fine on my end. I called someone on Tmo and had the HD appear on the call and it sounded like he was talking through a pillow.
It's so weird I can't figure out what's going on, but it's getting really annoying trying to talk to someone and end up calling them multiple times just to see if I can get a clear connection.
Bluetooth in my car seems to work perfectly for each end, though.
I'm on stock rom, rooted w/ philz recovery, and have not updated to the new ANES.
I don't use a case.
Wondering if that would help out.
Check this out might explain the mic issue
