Have lost "Audible Selection Tones" somehow and can't for life of me get them back. Seem to be in "Silent Mode".
Audible Tones for phone pad work, as well as Media Sounds etc...but all other touch screen sounds are silent (no click sounds). Everything checked of course.
I noticed that when I long press power button to open "Phone Options", I see "Silent Mode" is "ON". When I press to turn off, then "Silent Mode" in Sound Settings" becomes enabled! Back and forth we go and no way to disable silent mode in both places.
Any help would be appreciated!
OK. Since I can't seem to find a Dr. in the house to diagnose, here's my status and maybe this will help find one...
[ROM] SC2.9.2x = Voodoo-ed - EC10SuperClean_292x_DXC.tar.md5.tar + ec01_radio.tar.
I've found another similar SC2.9.2.zip version and extracted to pc. I've found the system/media/audio folder with exact same files. I notice that this folder has same (ringtones, ui, alarms and notifications)
My question; If I copy to sdcard on phone and since I believe I only need the "UI" folder with all of the sounds that I have lost, can I delete or rename existing "ui" folder in root explorer and then copy/paste new "ui" from sdcard back into "Audio" parent folder?

No I haven't flashed over mainly because I'm configured perfectly to my liking and if I can avoid the re-doing everything, I'd like to find an alternative if possible. My SC2.92 is .tar
Spike - Do you think if I copy same identical "UI" folder from another SC2.9.2 zipped version to sdcard on phone and since I believe I only need the "UI" folder with all of exact sounds that I have lost, can I delete or rename existing "ui" folder in root explorer and then copy/paste new "ui" from sdcard back into "Audio" parent folder?
If I can't, well then reflash only option. Thx

Renamed "ui" to "ui_old" folder as safeguard in root explorer...transferred "ui" folder from another SC2.9.2.zip ROM with identical sound files from PC to sdcard folder on phone and w/root explorer copy and past "ui" folder back into "system/media/audio parent folder and I feel the joy! I know some can live w/o audible click touch screen sounds, but not me...I need the feedback.

I was able to change boot animation right after root by using the same methods as I used on my DINC. But I want to replace the boot sound as well. I have tried renaiming to thunderfinal.mp3, android_audio.mp3, and (VZW_) something .mp3 to no avail. Any suggestions or success?

The boot sound is the FinalThunder.mp3
If you're rooted w/stock, the file is under /system/customize/resource
If you've flashed Adrynalyne's rom, it's under /system/media
you have to rename it finalthunder.mp3.old. It worked on mine
you guys are reading his question wrong. he doesnt want to get rid of thundersound he wants to add his own music or sound.
Right, so name it finalthunder, make sure it's an mp3, and adb push it to whichever location applies to him.

I did finalthunder.mp3 and named the renamed the old file to finalthunder.old before i even posted this and still i got nothing. Does it have a specific quality or codec used?
How to Turn the ThunderBolt's Boot Sound into a Ringtone/Alarm/Notification:
1) Grab the FinalThunder.mp3 file and place it on your /sdcard.
2) Install Ringdroid or a similar ringtone maker app from the Market.
3) Find "FinalThunder" in Ringdroid and open it.
4) Select only the parts of the sound you want to keep (if you want to keep the entire sound make sure Start = 0.0 seconds and End = 8.42 seconds) and save it as a Notification sound with whatever name you want it to have in the Settings menu.
This file now is modified for notification purposes and can be found in /sdcard/media/audio/notifications/<WhateverYouNamed>.mp3.
You can choose right then and there to make it your default notification sound or you can choose it later from the Settings->Sound->Notification Sound menu.

Is it necessary to manage background RAM usage on Androids, should you make Apps release RAM they used after you finish using them?
Using Droid Explorer I found that this zip file contains the boot up animation:
/system/media/bootanimation.zip
The zip file contains a series of .png files which I assume can be simply replaced?
But you can use Droid Explorer from your PC to only copy files from phone - not write files TO phone. How do I mount the phone as read and write so I can simply copy-paste files from PC?

IMO, ES File Explorer is the best on the Market. It's free and it allows read/write access for root users. Just make sure to enable the option in the Setting menu. Then select your new bootanimation.zip file and paste it into /system/media. Rename the original bootanimation.zip.bak (if you like - although that boot animation is horrible so it's doubtful you'll ever need it again). Then simply reboot. There are thread on XDA dedicated to sharing custom boot animations - just do a search.
In terms of RAM, Android manages it pretty well all by itself. I've heard users more experienced than myself say that unused memory is wasted memory. Point is - don't worry about it. And definitely do not use a task killer unless you know exactly what you're doing. I recommend the app Watch Dog. There is a free add supported version in the Market. It's a great tool if you want to monitor your RAM usage.
By the way, I HIGHLY recommend you flash CyanogenMod 7. The lastest nightly version 86 is running wonderfully on my Cliq. You'll notice huge improvements in terms of performance and battery... everything is better. Flash it asap. Either use ROM Manager or check out the Cliq thread on simplyandroid.com.

I think both ES File Explorer and ES Task manager need to be installed. And then you can copy-paste files from SD card to phone system if you CHECK: Mount File System in its settings. Thank you.

I guess its Phone Ringtone, try to set it to zero and reboot. You can also try setting each option to check which one is for boot sound. Since I don't have Cliq I can't tell the exact one.
In my gts5570 setting system volume to zero disable all unnecessary sounds such as bootup and others (it eventaully boosts battery performance also.)
Phone ringtone selects the sound for the phone ring. It does not have a volume setting - only selection of which ringtone you wish to use.
Ringer Volume has a volume selection obviously but that turns off ringing or message sound notification - and I just want to turn off boot up sound.
None of the sounds on the listed options correspond to the boot up sound.
I am trying to locate the sound in the system so I can replace it with a muted file with the same name. Any ideas where to look on the Cliq?

First of all, you're right, unless you download a 3rd party volume managing app, you cannot adjust "system volume." And really, you don't want to set that to zero. If you do you will lose other sounds. The system volume manages every other volume setting on your Cliq. In other words, if you lower the system volume, the media volume will also be lowered. And perhaps this does not apply to all phones, but it definitely does with the Cliq. The best way to eliminate the sound at boot is to either remove the audio file from your /system/media (as you said), or to flash a different ROM.
As I said before CM7 is a great ROM for the Cliq. It has no sound at boot. After you flash and get the phone set up, it will feel like a brand new device. I don't know where the audio file is located for the stock 2.1 ROM, but seriously, check out simplyandroid.com and find the CM4Morrison 7 ROM thread, read thoroughly and flash away.
EDIT: I just did a quick search on boot audio file locations, and it appears it should be in /system/media/audio. Looks like every device/ROM is a bit different, but look for a file called something like, poweron.wav or boot.ogg or something to this effect. I can't check my device because I'm running a different ROM, but if you can locate the boot audio file, simply delete it or rename is .bak and then reboot.
Flashing is the next step. For now I just wanted to figure out how to change all the defaults. I am still looking for that audio file. It is definitely somewhere on the system... but where?
Also: simply renaming bootanimation.zip gets rid of the default Motorola and default Cell carrier animation and the Android logo changing colors instead is seen. Definitely a quick way to get rid of ugly animations.

Like I said, the audio file should be in /system/media/audio. And yes, renaming or deleting the bootanimation.zip should result in the default animation. But the Motorola splash screen should remain. That's strange that it's gone.
I know I've said it twice before, but CM7 is amazing. When I finally flashed it on my Cliq, my only complaint was - why did I wait so long? My Cliq was very problematic when I was running the stock 2.1 update - and even before that with 1.5. But now it's customized and optimized and it runs brilliantly for a first generation Android phone. Check out the link below when you're ready.

That's great that you found the file for the sound at boot up. I remember that now... since you essentially froze the onthehunt.ogg file it won't be available as a notification anywhere else. But that's probably okay with you. I remember wondering why the 2.1 update included that notification sound at boot. It seemed silly that they recycled an old notification sound. At any rate, glad you fixed it.
Copying it to SD card and using it as a custom sound under the same or a different name would make it available again I think. But I just want to say that I understand what you are saying about flashing, and how good it can be.
Do you drive image your phone and if so which program do you use to make a drive image of your phone for quick restoration.
I would like to figure that out so that I can flash whatever I want and test it - knowing I can reimage my phone in minutes back to the state it was in before experimenting.

Yes, I do make regular backups using ClockworkMod recovery version 2.5.1.2. There are newer versions but this particular one was recommended by "team rogue." It has worked flawlessly. That's the first thing I would suggest - download Rom Manager, and then from within Rom Manager you can flash ClockworkMod Recovery. As you probably know it is through CWM that you are able to create nandroid backup images, restore the backups, as well as flash new ROMs. Nandroid backups are my little safety nets. I backup often.
OK, so stick with ClockworkMod recovery version 2.5.1.2 and do not upgrade.
Any ideas why, is it because of Cliq or something else?
I can really only make an educated guess as to why... the Cliq is an older device. My current phone is much newer, but I'm not even running the most recent CWM on it. I believe Rom Manager will prompt you with a message that displays your device, then you'll click yes to confirm, then you'll flash CWM... if I remember correctly it detects the proper version for you.

Sounds like you did it perfectly. I believe you only need to run Fix Permissions after you've flashed a new ROM. It should fix (or greatly reduce) any issues with FC's. But I have not had any problems with this myself.
It is now time for CyanogenMod 7 for Cliq as you suggested.

The Cliq is the Morrison... I'd start with the latest nightly. Remember to thoroughly wipe/factory reset to flash 'clean' the first time. If you continue to update the nightlies, you only need to wipe cache/dalvik cache each time you flash.

Before I start, I'm not sure if this is know or whatever, but I wanted to contribute it anyway. So yeah.

So I ran into a really cool mod for our TPs. I found that I was able to change all the system sounds on the ICS rom. I was able to replace the default system sounds with custom sounds of my own. I ran into this idea when I was replacing the system sounds on my laptop's OS (Windows 7). And I thought, hey, why I couldn’t do this with my TP. So I began my research here and various places in search of custom sounds that others had used. I found none mainly because I cut my search short. Anyway, I replace several SS (system sounds) with really cool, IMO, sound effects and synthesize speech. For instance, my lock and Unlock system sounds. My "Lock" sound, this is when you push the power button to allow the TP to sleep of shutdown, has been switched from a "Click" sound effect to a synthesize speech saying "Good bye." The same goes for my "Unlock" sound, which is now "Welcome." I also switch the "tick" sound with a single water drop sound effect and “Notification sound” to a speech synthesis saying “Your Attention is required”. You’ll find all of them attached to this thread. AND IF YOU HAVE ANY CUSTOM SOUND EFFECTS PLEASE POST THEM HERE!! I'D LOVE TO HEAR THEM!!!
It's really neat IMO. Anyway, you can do this too and here's how:
Disclaimer: I will not be responsible for any harm or damage that you may cause to your device. Proceed at YOUR OWN RISK.
Requirements: Must have rooted device.
Things you'll need before you start:
•Desired sound effects. You can use the one I supplied if you like or you can use your very own.
•An audio converter. There are tons of free audio converters out there. TONS. I used Switch Sound File Converter. It’s free and incredibly fast.
•A root explorer app. It must be able to access, read, and write system files. Root Explorer is perfect.
• BACK UP YOUR DEVICE. You don’t have too but I don’t want to hear crap.
Installation:
1. Download your desired sound effects.
2. Convert, if not already, these sound effects to an “.ogg” file. With Switch Sound File Converter, simply drag and drop selected files into the “add files” box of the program. Then, on the bottom left of the window there is an “Output Format” field. Select .ogg in that box.
Explanation: We must convert to an .ogg file because it is the only kind of file android recognizes in the system folders.
3. Compile all newly converted sound effects into a folder and name it whatever you like. Something you can remember. Now drag and drop it to the root of your device. We just need it to be somewhere where we can access it quickly.
So at this point you should have the folder that contains all the converted sound effects in a folder in the root of your device.
4. Now with your *Root* File Explorer, navigate to the folder containing all the converted .ogg files. Choose one to begin with. I’ll switch up my “Lock” system sound with a speech synthesis saying “Good bye”
5. Select and long hold the desired sound effect.
6. Select the “Copy” option
7. Now navigate to the system folder. You’re going to have to push back several times to get to that folder. This is the path: system>media>audio>ui
8. Now paste the file to this folder.
9. Okay. Now we must rename that file we just pasted to the one we want to replace. In this instance we’ll be replacing the “Lock” file.
• To avoid troubleshooting, rename the file to “Lock1.ogg.” Do not forget that “1.” I did this because I didn’t know how the ROM would react to two files in the system with the same name. I basically did it to be safe.
• And Spell it out exactly how the original file is spelt.
So now we have the original file and the pasted file. Do whatever you desire to the original file. Delete it. Copy it to back it up. I don’t care. Just remove it from this folder.
10. Now rename the file currently named “Lock1.ogg” to just “Lock.ogg” without the “1.”
11. Now we have to set permisions. To do that, press and hold the system sound file that we just renamed. Select "Permissions." Make sure that the only ones that are check are the entire "Read" column and in the "Write" column the user should be check marked. It should look like an upside down L.
Explanation: We cannot simply use a file with a random name because the Android OS only recognizes these specific tittles or descriptions. Trust me; I have tried many times in the “notifications” folder. I thought it was just a drag and drop thing. Boy was I wrong.
12. Now test it by pushing the power button. If you don’t hear the custom sound effect, try doing a hotboot and try again.
In addition, you can use these sound effects on your PC. Of course you'd have to use the original files and not the converted ones. But they work all the same. I've replaced most of my PC system sounds with these.
Again, Please post your custom sound effects if you have any! I'd really like to hear all of them.

In regards to more sounds/notifications this site has literally thousands, all in mp3 so need to be converted http://soundjax.com/ . I use " Captain incoming message" just search Worf , for my E-mail notification .

I tried using the same code as on the original Incredible (##7764726), and while it does take me to the same feature editor and I can select CD ROM option and do "disable", it reverts to "enabled" immediately.

Don't have the phone in front of me right now, but i believe you navigate to \system\etc and cdrom.iso is in there, just delete it, or rename it (your choice).
If you don't have an app like rootexplorer you can also do it in TWRP's file manager. Just make sure you mount "system" first or you wont see the folder.

Don't have the phone in front of me right now, but i believe you navigate to \system\etc and cdrom.iso is in there, just delete it, or rename it (your choice).
If you don't have an app like rootexplorer you can also do it in TWRP's file manager. Just make sure you mount "system" first or you wont see the folder.

Enter six zeros for the password
Go to Feature Settings
Disable CD ROM
Back out

hmmm ##PROGRAM# does nothing for me.
The ##PROGRAM## worked for me and gave me the menu, but no matter how many times i set the cdrom to disabled it never changes, just remains enabled.

I'm with void4ever. Dialing the ## code was the first thing I did, just like on old Inc. I see the menu, but the change to CD ROM setting does not stick. It reverts to Enabled as soon as I hit OK on the selector...
you go to system/etc/ and remove (or re-name to .bak) CDROM.ISO

Thanks! That worked. Not quite the way I like to make config changes, but as long as it works.
Since about 1 month I did something to disable boot animation sound (first using ARHD ROMs, then the one I made), and it survived various flashes (without every doing a full wipe). But last week I did a full wipe and boot sound is back.
During that time, I made something to disable the boot sound without needing to delete the boot sound files from /system/media/audio/ui, because I flashed many roms that wipe and rewrite the system partition (and rewrite the boot sound files) and boot sound was always disabled, so what comes to my mind is an option in some menu that I can't find anymore.
Does anybody know if there is a way to disable boot sound without deleting the media files?
You can go into root explorer go to the folder and simply rename the file from bootup.ogg (or whatever the file is) to bootup.ogg.bak (or whatever you prefer.
I add the .bak to it so i know I changed it and the original file name never changed. So if I ever want to enable it again, simply remove the .bak and is all good again.

I know about this rename/delete thing, but I am really curious to re-find out how did i do it last time without deleting the files

a little off topic
When I deleted the boot sound, I lost the multi window feature for wanamlite 5.3. Does anybody know why?
