I have an LG-P509 from T-Mobile. Recently, I flashed the Megatron ROM, but was not able to unlock my "new P500". (Calls and sms worked fine, but no 3G and the phone was no longer listed as a T-Mobile device.) I cannot be without 3G service, so I reflashed the Nand backup from my original stock setup without wiping anything. Expecting the LG splash I was surprised that my phone is still running Megatron and is still listed as "P500".
What specific files are responsible for identifying a phone to a specific 3G carrier? It seems that my phone is now a "mash" of two different ROM's. I am OC'd and running just fine even though I may not be running as efficiently as possible. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to isolate the files needed for my phone to stay on T-Mobile and copy them into custom ROMs for convenience (and the challenge).
Thank you!
Brian
I have the same phone as you, but Im running mik's cyanogen port and ive never had the problems your having. I've never ran megatron, but I've ran several others as well and always had 3g. Your carrier and stuff like that comes from your sim card, not any files on the phone. You should give miks cyanogen mod a shot.. just make sure to follow his instructions, and wipe everything first.

Yes you can root with z4 root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 and i also suggest you install a custom recovery and ROM here http://tablet-crunch.blogspot.com/20...overy-rom.html I am overclocked using Setcpu at 806mhz on megatron ROM it is a safe way to root and put in custom ROM i dont know about your phone but even rooted with setcpu it wouldnt overclock past 600 the best kernal to use is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929941 its very fast and fixes the touch screen bug
I posted this for someone else but it will work for you I sugest using milsos Cyogen Mod 7 for your Rom here is the link please be sure to read all instructions and its not my fault if you **** your phone up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
My complete phone history is as follows:
Z4Root - Successful
Thundurg Recovery v1.2.1 - Successful
Nand Backup + .android secure - got the .img to prove it
Complete wipe & SDCard format
Flashed Megaton - Successful
Opening the T-mobile My Device app results in a locked phone message. Browser will not connect to the internet. Phone & SMS work correctly.
Restored the original Nand backup from adb shell.
Phone is still running Megaton & is listed as a P500. I can overclock to 806 with no problems.
There has to be a certain file or set of files that makes the words T-mobile display at the top of the notifications.
I'm going to flash a different Rom this afternoon to see what happens.

I would like to start a thread for things that have been discovered using the gingerbread leak. I can't add to the post in the development section and I dont really think its the right place. I flashed the zip posted in the dev thread. If you wipe the data before flashing then it doesn't work as the set up will try to run and will force close. I found that the super user app force closed quite abit and that it started if open from within the market. I could not get root explorer to work at all. The biggest issue I had was that it would find the sim card im unsure if this bug was intentional to prevent people using the test release. I assume that it is also related to not having a imei number while using this rom.

Well, you got a bad flash. The SIM is working and IMEI is there as well. In fact, pretty much everything seems to be working except it cannot be rooted.
I made a succesfull instalation too, but got the same problem: not root at all. I tried z4root, gingerbreak and superoneclick.
Any other idea on how to root the device?
But Andy said his rom is rooted??

His rom is rooted I guess there is a gingerbread leak over the Internet which is fake...the OP flashed that leak rom.
I thought you must be aware of the new rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115487
People, if you want to try the russian leak... first, you must flash it via the EXE provided on that site. Otherwise, no GSM!!!
Then, root it like this:
Code:
> adb shell
$ echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
Reboot device. Then, you need to remount /system rw, adb push flash_image binary on it and AmonRa recovery image, flash it, reboot to recovery. Now, you can flash it once again with the ZIP from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14546945&postcount=132)
Now, you will have it rooted. Notes:
- WiFi unstable
- rooting semi-unusable, highly annoying toolbox binary nonsense sticked there by LG which is probably causing this, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14553363&postcount=154 (Edit: confirmed bug by andy)
- generally, not worth the hassle
- to go back, you must use KDZ to restore stock 2.2.x ROM, otherwise, no GSM!!!
Be prepared you will end up messing with emergency mode a couple of times as well. Chances to brick your phone completely. Not for the faint-hearted people really.
I flashed the first zip that was released for recovery, There is normally a force close from the set up app when this is done this way though, but I got around this by not clearing the data and hence it already having the data and the app not running. Maybe flashing the zip with out wiping gave me other errors. Andys zip has got around the set up FC by removing it, it also has root like the one I flashed. I found the wifi stable though for the little time I used it. I think flashing this is a waste of time though I had to do a clean install as my back up wouldn't work zeam ect, FC'd
I don't have any problem at all Just wanna root cause i want to install market enabler.
is all working better then CM7??
Definitly yes.
and this ROM have all features from CM7. Like a special menu, power menu et cetera?
And main question have this ROM flash player?????
In tweeter
@LG_Russia said that this ROM are NOT OFFICIAL release
what do you think about it?
Sure, it´s not official release, cause its TEST release. Its not a final build.
Hi all, I don't think most Vibrant users worry about it (at least from what I've seen), but do you worry about losing your baseband/EFS partition/IMEI info when flashing?
For those of you who don't know or forgot, basically some flashes can result in a generic IMEI number and you SIM card would no longer be readable under any custom ROM. You would then have to ODIN to stock and stay there forever, as that is the only way your SIM would be readable.
I know this was a problem a while ago when CM7 or MIUI was flashed, but is it even worth worrying about anymore?
Hopefully someone can inform me and others about the issue. Thank you for your time!
I'm not cause I got my efs backed up. Plus AOSP ROMS are no longer tedious to flash..just flash like any other rom. Though odining back to stock is the only way to leave AOSP I don't really care.
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
Hey laylovj,
So we only have to ODIN to stock if we're going from an AOSP rom to some non-AOSP ROM? (How common are these?)
Also, I remember hearing that if we want to go from Gingerbread (specifically CM7) back to Froyo we'd have to ODIN. Not true?

Yea...there are three for us VIbrant Owners...
You need to Odin back to stock w/ repartition checked if you want to go back to Sammy based roms coming MIUI and any other CM7 based ROMs.
That's great to know, thanks so much for the info laylovj.
Anyone else?
I think i backed up my efs at some point but i dont worry about it too much... at one point, flashing kernels in gb, i lost.my baseband i had 'no imei' according to my phone... i odined to stock and now im back on cm7 texting 24/7 so idk
... itd prob be aa good idea to have a backup

Why worry now? I could understand worrying when we were toying with fire--i.e. early voodoo, etc. But almost all roms now are easily flashed and provided you follow instructions to the tee, you will have no problems.

I couldn't stand it if I lost my IMEI and was stuck on a stock, Touchwiz ROM. That's the only reason I worry.
younix258, I do have a backup of my EFS folder, but I guess ODINing to stock will also fix the problem like it did for you. Good to know.

I lost my IMEI a long time ago while flashing an unlocker or maybe CM7. I have this generic IMEI that has been working every since though with all the ROMs. Even Tmobile can't identified what phone I am using but they haven't shut down my service probably because I am paying $200 a month on 3 lines,.
Hmm, I wonder how often that's the case though.
From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914,
"In case you screwed your IMEI by playing with the nv_data.bin and you are experiencing issues like:
Fake IMEI (usually 004999010640000)
Unable to download apps from the market
Unable to unlock your SIM card using your PIN
Weird apps are downloading automatically from the market
Blinking SIM card icon on the top tray… ETC"
So I'd definitely like to avoid losing my IMEI, even if everything seems to be fine without it.
Been trying to get my phone to run fully on gingerbread, and have tried the official v20e.kdz flash, as well as Mik_os's CM7, both worked great, and I liked them a lot.
BUT, I can't get my 3G/Data connection to work on either. WiFi works fine, and I can connect to the internet fine that way.
So I am currently flashed back to the gross V10V 2.2.1 Froyo until I can get it figured out. I REALLY want to run CM7, but with no 3G I just can't really use it.
Searches have returned nothing. Any other canadian guys out there with this same problem?

If you want a custom ROM, select one that corresponds to your baseband or switch the baseband. If you do not, you will have no data. That is all to it. End of story.
You can extract the baseband yourself from KDZ archive. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901417 (steps 1-2).
All of this covered in the sticky thread.
Got it. Currently have extracted needed files from the uncompressed dz file for my stock ROM. I will be reuploading CM7 and franco's kernel,(Lots of users seem to have luck with it, and I liked it when I ran it for a day) and then flashing my V10V radio and I will let you know!
Edit:
Wait, CM7 currently has a bug so 3G/Data does not work? Shoot! Or am I fixing this by flashing my stock rom's baseband? Will find out soon enough....
And I admit I'm a bit of a noob, I only started doing this last week. I'm learning though.

No dice. My phone was in its factory state when I began this project. It was rooted, installed AmonRa's custom backup, and I installed DrellisDee's Kernel so I could overclock with 2.2.1 froyo. Was stable at 480/768, but it still wasn't enough.
Nandroid backup, google backup, cleared cache, and dalvik. (Thank your AmonRa!)
Flashed CM7, latest stable release 6.5.7
Flashed franco.Kernel.v1-16082011
Booted up, currently running with no issues. Flashed my V10V baseband using LGMDP v1.5.exe .
No errors, everything went well, battery still at 92%.
Still no internet unless connected to WIFI, Damn. Guess I'm S.O.L. on this one eh?
Thanks for the help guys. Gonna check out some other Ginger ROMs and give them a try to see if I can get ginger to work with my 3G network. Any suggestions? I'm stuck with v10 based ROMs since LG hasn't released any V20 setups for my network.

You can't tell me how you got the phone rooted in the first place can you?
I'm with Koodo and have the Froyo 2.2.1 firmware on there.
I've tried everything I can do to get it rooted, and it just won't!
Gingerbreak says that there is a problem and won't do it.
Superoneclick hangs on step 6 which is mounting the SD card
I tried to grab a v10_G flash which is the telus stock ( I think ) but there was an error while trying to flash with kdz flash ( update error param =2 ).
Can ANYBODY help me to figure this out?
I havd koodo, just last friday I rooted 2 friend's phones with the gingerbreak app from xda thread. I took the second one and at first it didn't work because there were too many dots in the file name, simple as that, took me a while to figure it out, so I renamed to something like gingerbreak1.apk and it worked. For the data not working, just google " koodo apn " then you'll end up with the good apn info wich is simply. " sp.koodo.com " , port = 80, NO proxy as it just slow down the net, the other settings as they already are, 302 and 230 or something like that they come as default near the bottom of apn creation option in mobile options. All other fields leave blank. Hope it works..

I decided to install a different version of gingerbreak, and suddenly everything worked so simply...
I have since installed clockworkmod and have done a full back up.
Then I installed cyanomod and everything is up and going.
I was nervous to flash the google apps, but everything is happy.
Oh ya... I did have to update my apn data to the koodo network. I've tested MMS in and out.
You might want to try Andy's Phoenix rom; the fastest one and amazing statusbar. Some light text issues will be fixed the 20th october update. Beside that, the best for me with franco 2.6.35.14 oct. 2 kernel. Anyway, glad you could make it

Hi,
I have an Atrix4g international (Uk retail) which is rooted and unlocked. Until about a week ago I had been running Aura ROM with a days 1.45 kernel. This was all good but I experienced some 3g data problems.
In the end I got fed up of not being able to download pictures when I received an mms and decided to flash back to my original rom. Once done I thought maybe the over clock 1.45 kernel would work with the stock ROM. It didn't and failed but I then noticed my wifi showed error where it usually said connected.
I reflashed my stock room from my recovery backup and it started working ok again. Both times I flashed my recovery it said error with recovery but the phone details read as it did before when it had the original ROM as it was bought.
Since doing I this I have noticed my phone being really laggy.... I also noticein advanced task killer that I never seek to have more than 80mb free ram.
I checked this against task manager and titanium backup and they seem to agree with the figures tb actually said I was using 100% at one point.
I even tried a factory reset fearing the hard brick stories.
I have wiped the davlik and cache and perfomed a factory wipe from recovery mode
Looks like I have a problem..
Anyone got any ideas on how to rectify this.... Is it likely to be anything to do with partitioning???
You atrix geniuses out there are my last hope so I thank you in advance for any wisdom.
Are you using the stock Gingerbread ROM from your carrier? If so, it sounds like you might need to flash a kernel that has the international RAM fix. Try downloading and flashing this if you're on stock Gingerbread.
http://faux.androidro.ms/Atrix-GB-Kernel-024r-ext4-1.00GHz.zip
That's the 1Ghz kernel made by faux123 for Gingerbread ROMs. After you flash that check to see that you have more RAM available.

Glad to see you've solved your problem though
Knock on effect??!!
Although I now have many many more rams than an Afghani goat hearder this process has thrown up another problem. The same error message is showing up where it usually says connected under wiring settings and wiring will not activate or connect.
Yes I was trying to flash back to my stock rom (via cm rom manager-reboot into recovery-restore.....)
Ok so the story continues...
after receiving your advice I flashed the file you linked to. And as I reported ram was up dramatically but then when I tried to connect to wifi it wouldn't. I went to settings -wireless settings- checked wiring on check box to turn it on and underneath in grey writing it threw up the message "error" where it usually says "connecting..." or "connected" etc
I went back through cmrm to recovery mode and did the wipe data-wipe cache-restore rom again but did not reflash the file you linked... checked wifi and worked but ram had gone again.
Went back into clement and went through whole process in one. Ie factory data wipe-wipe cache-restored ROM-flashed file you linked to....
Set up phone again checked wifi and still shows error. But my rams are back...
???? Puzzled!
Dont suppose you have an idea whats going on?

Desperation is now setting in
Just an update... and help to solve this is really appreciated.
I have trawled the site and others regarding wifi error.
People seem to suggest its a number of things either hardware or software flashing kernels roms radios wifi fix zips etc etc
I can confirm my problem is not hardware.
I flashed back to aura and wifi function is back. And rams up to normal.....
but I have the original problem I cannot send or download pictures when received via mms.
Is there a fix for this?
I assume not and so therefore would like to ask the question does anyone know of a Stock ATRIX international (uk) retail Rom that is compattable with an ATRIX international (uk) retail phone that has been rooted and unlocked.
For some reason my recovery must be corrupt and is giving me jip.
Maybe someone knows why my recovery isn't working and knows how to fix it?
Thanks all in advance...
When I had the problem with wifi reporting just "error", I fixed it by just redownloading the kernel and reflashing it. Maybe try another recovery if that doesn't work, but I don't know why it wouldn't. :|
The wifi problem is most likely the kernel. Since you are on Aura now though with no data or MMS I would recommend changing your APN settings. Try googling the correct APNs for your carrier and changing them under Settings>Wireless and Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names.

I have a Milestone X which is the same hardware as the Droid X. I am running stock gingerbread, rooted with some of the stock apps frozen. Sometimes my phone will start getting really slow and after a little while it will slow to almost a standstill before "crashing" and going directly to the startup animation. The problem tends to occur more often when the phone hasn't been rebooted for a while but it sometimes will occur within a couple of hours of a reboot. I have a LOT of apps installed but not a huge number that run in the background. Is there a good way to determine which app is the culprit short of uninstalling most all of them and starting over? Are there any apps in particular that cause problems? I use Go Launcher, SwiftKey X, notification toggle and Tasker to name a few. Also if another thread might solve my problem refer me there. I can't go to a custom ROM right now because I don't have a Peoples Wireless SBF file to reflash with if I have a problem. Thanks for any help.

It's the stock firmware. The Droid/Milestone X have never been very stable. You may want to look into flashing a custom Rom.
Well I uninstalled a bunch of apps and my phone seems a little faster. As for the custom ROMs is there any way for me to backup my current phone ROM so that I can reflash without an SBF? I plan on talking to my carrier and seeing if they will give me the SBF, if I get that I will definitely try some custom ROMs.
Another question, how do I tell which ROMs are safe as far as not changing my wireless radio settings to another carrier? Are there any good ICS ROMs for the DX?
Thanks for the help.

You can do a Nandroid backup to save your settings, but you will need to SBF before you flash the backup. Just look up flashing Rom Milestone X on youtube.
If you check the section for your phone here you can find the Roms that are compatable with your phone.
my suggestion : try to change the rom. or try supercharger script
I also do experience this, but I think I'll search for a remedy of this here in the forum.
As far as a supercharger script, and I am running v6 supercharger. I found a "generic" Milestone X sbf, does this sound like it would work? Has anyone used it? Can I flash a SBF without changing my radio settings? I read something about being able to do that using Linux and sbf_flash. I'm trying to get to the point where I'll have a SBF safety net so I can try some custom ROMs. Thanks for the help.
