Question about UIs - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've heard that Sense UI is a huge battery drain compared to something like LauncherPro. Can someone confirm this?
If this is true, what makes Sense such a battery drain?

It might be because the sense UI sync's data quite a bit and that uses battery. Honestly even if you use LauncherPro sense UI will still be there. I have used ADW launcher since i first discovered it on my eris a year ago. When I made the switch from sense UI to adw i didnt notice any difference on the battery. Until we get a rom that completely removes sense UI (most likely CM7) we wont know for sure.
you should switch UI's though. the custom launchers have alot more options and flexibility than sense.

Well I'm using das bamf and there is the remove sense update.. I was thinking about using that but I'm not sure

Alternate Launcher with Hardware Acceleration

I love sense 3.0 but Im honestly tired of having 7 screens im a 3-4 screen type of person. I like using go launcher but When it comes to smoothness sense 3.0 has everything beat. Is there any alternate launcher that have hardware acceleration.
BTW i also dont like the way some of the sense widgets refresh
Launchers haven't really changed, just go with what you know is what I say
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
if you use launcher pro is smoother than an iphone. But somehow im loving sense even though it is really sluggish compare to lancher pro.

No way....LauncherPro is wayyyyy smoother. Hell, ADW launcher has never been smoother...in fact it has LP beat. LP's 4D app drawer stutters a little...but with the massive horsepower of this phone ADW is smooth as silk.
Sense has never been smooth for me on any phone ever.
Sense is quite the "pig with lipstick" compared to other launchers, has battery life been better for those of you switching to a different launcher?
not saying battery life is an issue, but a lil more juice never hurts

Tough to say...I've been screwing with the phone constantly, so, I've been plowing through the batter as fast as possible. That said, I'm getting such fantastic life out of the battery (considering how much I am using it) that I have no concerns for the battery...it's definitely _much_ better than my EVO4G...
...in another week or two we'll really be able to get an accurate measure of battery life. First of all we need to stop screwing with the phone every free second we have--that'll wear off by then. Plus we need to get a week or two of charge cycles under our belts. But something tells me, even bone stock, that we should be pretty happy with the results.

I use Go Launcher EX and it's pretty dang smooth. The speed of this phone really helps.
Launcherpro is buttery smooth. I very rarely ever see lag. I'm one that can notice even the slightest bit of lag and, this launcher is 99.9% lag free..
ADW looks badass.. I love the screenshots I've seen. I'm just not sure if it's worth shelling out the money to buy yet another launcher.

Any lag or fc on reboot like there was with cm7?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately I've not had the pleasure of using CM7. I am very new to android.
ive tried adw and launcher pro however, i found that go launcher was the smoothest. plus they have a ton of cool transitions that are buttery smooth. I use it with the classic theme.

Adw launcher very laggy?

Does anyone else experience huge lag on Adw? I would like to use it but there is at least a 2 second lag in switching screens. Any help to speed it up because I know that's not normal

I had ADW ex installed for a couple of weeks, and it felt smoother/faster than Sense 3.0, but I spent a ton of time messing with the options. Million settings in there to make it warp speed fast. But it takes awhile to get it all setup like that.
I went back to stock, because I missed Sense. And now running Thy's custom theme, and I think Sense 3.0 is faster than ADW.
Best thing about ADW was the option to have 5 rows top to bottom of apps. With the new high resolution on the 3VO the stock 4 rows tall sucks, leaves too much space between Widgets, there is easily enough room for another row. HTC should make it 5 rows tall as default

ICS - 1 week later... impressions?

So it's been roughly a week since the ICS leak hit. What are your impressions?
I didn't think a tweaked GB 2.3.4 rom was too bad, at least not to the point where I constantly pined over ICS. GB was satisfactory to say the least.
ICS has been pretty impressive imo. Battery life has definitely improved and things feel a bit more peppier. Then again it could all be placebo effect. I mainly preferred a sense base rom for the camera and I'm pretty happy i can have the best of both worlds.
Overall if my level of satisfaction with the 2.3.4 roms was a 7/10 i would rate my satisfaction a 9/10 with ICS.
What do you guys think so far?
So far so good, i would rate it 9.5/10.
I am personally much happier with ICS then GB. I like the look and feel I just wish i had the same service (coverage) as GB. I now get HORRIBLE reception. Hopefully there will be an update for my completely stock Amaze.
Very stable here.

I'm having the same experience.
the only thing i really dislike about ics is the lack of apps optimized for ics (no fault of ics of course)
my reception doesn't feel changed at all.
I guess its because where i am its either 1. very strong or 2. weak to the point where there is no signal.
I am using NRG ICS, but I was on stock for a day. I really like it, and the battery is twice as good.
My favorite feature is that one can combine icons on the desktop to create "folders" with multiple programs. I keep all my browsers in the space needed by only one icon. Very cool.
I like ARHD. I'm getting fast data speeds and good reception. The battery life isn't all that great. I already reconditioned it 3 times, and did a battery stats wipe. Unplugged it at 12 am, and checked it at 6am. It was already at 86 percent. If it was my glacier, it would be at 95 or more. I also used better battery stats app, and disabled any rouge apps. Juice defender running disabling all data, and system tuner sets the governor to powersave while the screen is off.
For some reason, I can't get the radio settings to stick. It always goes back to gsm whenever I tried to set it to gsm/wcdma prl or anything else.

Huh, I guess I never happened to combine them! I'm using GB on my tablet, but I don't prefer GB there.
OK, back to just the battery I guess!

Yeah, I just stumbled on them in GB as well. I think it's a sense feature rather than a GB feature. I think I remember watching a video showing folders on whatever version of IOS first had them and thought that'd be cool, and one day saw I could do it on my phone. I threw all my games into a games folder.

I split my games into categories (RPG, board, etc). Very useful.
My reception has gotten slightly better, stock ICS with Apex launcher is much smoother than any GB ROM I've tried, and even though I'm not a fan of HTC Sense's overhead, I'm still pretty happy with it
I like the leak. I've been running stock rooted and debloated with apex launcher and its WAY better than 3.0. Especially with Apex.
ICS is MUCH snappier (no placebo). It has everything I liked from 3.5 with improvements in performance.

Stock rooted? I thought u would be running speedrom or something
But I do enjoy ics very much. Everything is smoother and more fluid. I LOVE IT!

1. MUCH improved battery life.
2. Snappier response.
3. 150MB less memory usage on average. I've changed nothing about my usage habits. This probably contributes quite a bit to the snappier performance.
I'm not sure if reception is better, haven't really been paying attention. Overall I'm impressed. I like the return to the icon bar instead of that stupid giant PHONE button with two other useless things on it. I am noticing a little bit of stutter on cpu intensive apps; wonder if that's just tweaking/optimization that will be taken care of in the release.
I think my phone reception is a little bit better with the new radio, but my wifi reception has gone crazy with the new radio. Sometimes I'll have full bars sitting in one spot, and 0 wifi bars a minute later in the same spot. I do like ICS a lot more than GB though.
Perhaps those are some of the issues the T-Mobile team wants HTC to fix before the actual release.

Lag with different launchers

Wondering if anyone is experiencing lag when you a different launcher? Mine's lag very badly when using nova. If I'm moving between screens or in the app drawer.

I've been using Nova (Prime) since day 1 and it is smooth, except for the very very occasional lag.

Yeah, I've been going through the same thing. I end up going back to Sense launcher because the lag bothers me that much. I'm using Blackout ROM for AT&T version.
I have even changed all the settings to FAST for animation and performance and it works great but the lag eventually comes back and is noticeable.
Also been using Nova prime but haven't really noticed much lag between screens. Get the occasional lag (but nothing major) in the app drawer.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
The same here.
With Sense, there is no much lag, but it is not very smooth. (it seems to low FPS, but no lag)
With Nova, some transitions perfect, other very laggy. Little better with Apex, but still laggy.
Waiting for an official CM10.1
I hope it solves this problem.
I have paid a lot for this phone, and I tought it would perfect smooth. There is enough hardware in the box..
Just happy is just not my phone. Went back to sense launcher because it annoyed me that much lol
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
i had the same problem and figured out why, first you need to go to developer options-----> advanced and check force 2d gpu rendering
and the try unchecking the animation option...no lag what so ever since
can't remember having lag with the vanilla HTC sense build when using Apex, but I surely don't have any lag issues on it using CM10.1
My phone isn't rooted or anything and since I've been using Android I've used Launcher Pro on every Android phone I've owned. The one thing that I do notice with the One X+ is that Launcher Pro constantly crashes. Never had a problem like this on any other device.
Apex Launcher Pro runs great for me no probs sofar since day1

I just rooted and installed a ROM last night and went with Apex
I have made a vid to show the micro lags.
This is Apex Launcher Pro. With Nova is worse.
It happens with every Rom I have installed. From Stock, Insertcoin (sense and senseless), revolution, Cm10, Cm10.1.... all of them
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLaCq5weoU4&feature=youtu.be
Best in 720p
First at real time, after that, 25% speed to see it better. With the Hox in hand feels worse than vid...
Im paranoid?
With "Sense Launcher", and "Next Launcher" this not happens. But I dont like neither of them..
This didn't happen with Nexus4, I would like to be the same in Hox+..
Thanks

I don't know what is causing it. It is really annoying, maybe it is the Tegra processor? My old S3 and S2 never lagged with any launcher.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I wonder if it is due to the aggressive governor settings HTC used. They are intended to mitigate battery drain, but, they can cause stuttering in games as well.
I ended up using Renovate Gaming Boost to fix the issue in various games that I play, but, I generally turn it (Gaming Boost) off unless I am gaming. There is a thread for the Renovate Gaming Boost in the HTC One X forum and the Jelly Bean version is compatible with HTC One X+ also.
It unlocks the GPU from the CPU so the GPU clocks stay at high levels even if CPU scales down. It also changes the 'on demand' governor settings. You can find out exactly what it changes in the main thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783260
Not sure if this will have any effect on the launcher lag. If the issue is a result of the governor settings and/or GPU clock scaling down, then this should fix it. However, the downside is that your battery life will decrease as your CPU and GPU will run at higher average clock speeds. Root is required to get any benefit from the application.

[Q] What does DeSensing do?

Hey, so I was messing around with roms, and ive never really DeSensed because I thought that Sense was pretty good. recently ive been playing with some launchers and found Atom which is really good. Now I was wondering, does DeSensing have any other benefits besides just allowing me to use Atom? Like does DeSensing help battery life or anything?
Thanks!
Sense has alot of processes running in the background. Most of them have little impact on system resources or battery. But when you add them all together, they start to be more apparent. If a rom has been properly de-sensed, it can save a considerable amount of resources and battery.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I came from elegancia custom stock look rom and decided to try it desensed. I have never looked back. I'm running nova prime as a launcher and have many things running in the background and my phone still has a lot of free ram memory and battery life is way better.
You can always look for widgets if you want or like the weather/time widgets from sense.
