unlocking the bootloader - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

unlocking the bootloader
what does this mean.....i use free xperia kernal beta 006
my phone runs 1.1ghz
and the fps cap is raised
but what does "unlocking the bootloader" mean and how do i do it!

you cannot unlock the bootloader because fastboot is not implented in X10 but the new kernal uses a loading method that bypasses the bootloader so technically if you are using a custom kernal you have already bypassed your bootloader. Having the bypass does nothing to let you mess with your phone more but its the method that allows you to boot custom kernals.

You don't even have to have root to install a different stock ROM or a custom ROM.

[Q] Custom roms with stock kernel?

Hi !
I have an Xperia Mini Pro (sk17i) and i can't unlock the bootloader is vodafone. I searched custom roms with stock kernel and there are none.
Why there are no roms with stock kernel? It's possible?
Thanks !
Why can't you unlock bootloader? Which unlock method did you try (the official one or the testpoint version)?
U can use UXP NXT room, this for stock rom with xperia s taste...
No need unlock bootloader, just root and flash with cwm

Branded phones cannot have unlocked bootloader at all, both methods will not work.

This is some Xperia mod, mostly edits only the visual part. Does not require bootloader unlock.
Might be more, only some stock-based ROMs can run with stock kernel.
you can unlock bootloader on branded phones with test point, i did it with mine unfortunately it did no good because due to a sim lock restriction i had no access to fastboot mode so i had to completely unlock mi phone using setool (paid tool) or you can also use omnius (paid tool).

Yes, only via paid methods can bootloader be unlocked right now.
Most of the custom ROMs need seperate kernel... However u cn try UXP NXT Rom... I think it uses the stock kernel

[Q] Rom that doesn't require an unlocked bootloader

I have SE Live With Walman, and it's rooted with doomlord's rootkit, however my phone doesn't allow bootloader unlocking. So, i was wondering if there's any rom that doesn't require unlocked bootloader and costum kernel.

Bootloader Sony Xperia mini st15i

Hi, iam new to Sony but did have htc wildfire I've rooted and overclocked, iam about to root Sony Xperia mini but I've noticed someone say theres 2 different methods depending on your bootloader I've done that *# code and checked it says yes so what iam wondering and wanting to find out is how to check the bootloader is locked or unlocked, iam on .62 software iam looking to downgrade, root then update, any help would be appreciated thanks

Connect it to flashtool and look at the Bootloader Status: ROOTED or ROOTABLE. ROOTED means the bootloader is unlocked
Or you type *#*#7378423#*#* and go to service info -> configuration -> rooting status:
bootloader unlocked: yes [obviously it's unlocked ]
bootloader unlock allowed: yes [unlockable]
bootloader unlock allowed: no [not unlockable, only with a paid method]
Ok thank you, iam sure its locked and with *# I get yes so that means its unlockable, all I wanna do is delete standard apps that come on phone. So should I use and follow your method for locked bootloader? Do I just flash straight over the .62, thanks

Sorry also where u say
MAKE SURE PC COMPANION OR SONY UPDATE SERVICE ISN'T RUNNING IN BACKGROUND WHILE YOU ARE FLASHING!!! DON'T USE THIS METHOD IF YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED, OTHERWISE YOUR DEVICE WILL BRICK!! (Unlocked bootloader can't do updates over the air, but flashing won't destroy your phone on unlocked bootloader!)
Is that on pc? Thanks

Yes this is on PC
Yes just follow the guide to root it and afterwards you can delete all unwanted apps :good:

Bootloader

I have a x10 running 2.3.3 official firmware.
I have rooted it.
So have I unlocked the bootloader?
If no,how to unlock it??

Rooting is not part of unlocking bootloader. Check first by dialing *#*#7378523#*#* and if bootloader says YES then you can unlock it. But if you are locked in a specific carrier then you need to unlock your sim first then proceed to unlocking bootloader. Check the development thread and look for proper bypass for bootloader unlocking.
